The concept of tracking is well executed amd the limiters are reasonable, not letting MC to go over the top.

But the story is not good enough to go with such a good system.

The side characters are real side characters which are forgotten one their use is up. Even mc's wife (no harem).

The MC is always getting suppress by sudden super strong enemies and overcomes the hurdle with great difficulty and planning. But after overcoming the troubles, only the path for the MC is cleared. The people beside him or the... more>> world behind him doesn't keep up with MC. Which makes it feel like the MC is alone in the world and the whole story only has one person — the MC.

There is touch of romance with not much work done to it.

The concept of the system is great but the concept of the story is sh*t. <<less

Lame.

Was supposed to be a gag-novel about a transmigrator that has a fortune-teller-radar-type system with novel exploitative applications. Instead the plot development made absolutely no sense after C100.

SUMMARY
A modern youth (20s?) is reborn into a xianxia world for no reason (no truck-kun or s*ave-driving bosses). After 16 yrs, MC is awarded a cheat power that allows him to detect treasures and limited-time opportunities within a certain radius. MC goes on to abuse his powers in novel ways (supposedly) while he tries to climb to the top of this new world.

CRITIQUE
Much like other CN transmigrator novels where MC gains comical powers (insulting others, getting jelly points, even One Piece Luffy's rubber powers), this novel's entire setup is supposed to be a gag-novel with MC's radar detection powers. For those old enough to remember, think of Stephen Chow's "Fist of Fury" (1991) where he plays a country bumpkin that has inhuman strength in his right arm.

In these types of gag-novels, you don't need a robust cultivation system, world building or interesting cast of characters (which this novel doesn't have anyway). The only thing you need is humor, and THE HUMOR MUST WORK.
Unfortunately, it doesn't.

You can tell author only storyboarded till c100. Because after that:

(1) The gags disappear. Completely. Along with the plot.

Becomes a normal powering-up MC that constantly one-shots all enemies (copy of One-Punch Man). But no humor to sustain those scenarios.
MC's power is basically the ability to detect anything across time and space. Analogous to Snow White's "Mirror mirror on the wall". Instead it's used for following boring, limited applications:
Spoiler

- Find treasures within a certain radius (as he levels-up the radius expands)
- Find limited-time opportunities (basically fortune-telling within 24 hrs, and as he levels up the time limit likely expands). Some jokes about peeking at women at the same time, but he gets his underlings to do it instead.
- Detect invisible enemies (since his cultivation is too low and he can't detect them otherwise)

[collapse]
Aren't there tons of other interesting, abusive possibilities with this skill?
Finding weak points in arrays as an array master?
Finding weak points in enemies?
Finding points of deficiency when someone is mysteriously injured/poisoned/etc?
Being a detective/investigator (MC can ask who is the strongest in a vicinity. So ANY "whodunnit" questions can work too?)
Pretending to be a fortune-teller and winning people over by awarding them fortuitous opportunities?
Head-hunting talented individuals (just rephrase the wording he asks the system) ?

(2) Filler filler, on the wall

MC shuttles across multiple areas treasure hunting. Like... across hundreds of thousands to millions of miles. Instead of quality arcs and descriptions of finding treasures, author was so damn lazy he went with quantity. Author eventually can't be bothered to describe what he found.
In several instances, the description is reduced to "MC goes a Area A/B/C/D looking for treasure. You found a treasure! Two months pass...." WTF.

(3) Turtle power plot holes

MC acquires so many treasures that author forgets about them. When MC encounters situation A/B/C/D that could be easily resolved with existing treasures, he just doesn't, or author randomly inserts something to stop it for no reason.
Spoiler

e.g. MC has a turtle that can break any barrier. MC encounters an enemy hiding behind a barrier that would take too long to break by conventional means (while they are secretly plotting some counter move).
Author clearly wanted to up the ante. So instead of MC easily breaking the barrier with his turtle, we get an MC who oh-no-i-opened-my-bag-and-now-the-turtle-is-sleeping-and-i-don't-want-to-wake-him-up situation. WTF.

[collapse]

I don't even have much to review... there's just so little material.
It's like a sprinter who dashed off the start line and immediately slammed into a wall 10m in.

the novel story is alright, pretty standard stuff as far as I can tell. Nothing really caught my attention or pulled me into the story and I remember it more for it's broken sentence structure than the story itself.

the translation editing has ups and downs and there are times when it seems like it was MTL and copy/pasted with minimal change; some sentences make no sense or are missing parts of the sentence. It's work to get through and there are a few times when I've had to read a... more>> sentence several times and it still makes no sense. This is a novel in need of some serious translation and editing TLC.

I might retry later. For now I'll leave it 3. <<less

This is an a very interesting novel. Although very alike the other generic cultivation novels, it does have its unique points. The worldbuilding is done very well, one can see that the author put a lot of work in it. The main character is not like those indicisive MCs that always have some wierd reason not act proactivly and he doesn't act all submissive towards women, like in most other novels.

He has his own morals, as seen how he interacts with his friend. Though he is shameless, but not too... more>> much that it would permanently affects his character, he is flexible and can be both shameless and serious, both humorous and emotional.

I quite liked how the author portrayed his character. As nowadays most MCs are one dimensional and don't have much variety.

All in all, I have been reading novels for a very long time now (more than a decade) and I would definitely recommend this novel to any reader! <<less

It's a great novel, the Translator comitted some mistake in the beginner, but after 40 chapther gets much better. I recomend this novel for those who like a plot cliche but also appreciate a original development.

This isn't a gag novel. I'm not sure why someone would even think it's a gag novel -- it's obviously your standard cheat cultivation story with some comedy.

Tone-wise, it's pretty similar to A Will Eternal; the MC is an opportunist who's constantly thinking up schemes to take advantage of people/situations, but he is (ultimately) a kind person with morals who'll do the right thing when it's needed. Most of the humour comes from him tricking people into believing he's more righteous than he is.

The story starts out good but begins... more>> to get boring after the first three or four arcs. It gets good again after the MC ascends and starts anew. The MC's cheat gets nerfed a little more than halfway through, but other than being annoying this doesn't actually affect his progress much.

All in all this is a 4 that gets dragged down to a 3 -- there are large parts of the story that are boring because these sections lack interesting problems. <<less

Damn! I caught up with the translation! Damn!

This novel feels a lot like Warlock of the Magus World - it's /that/ good- it's not quite up to the same standard, it feels like it's been mixed with a more casual novel such as Inadvertently Invincible. The biggest difference between this and those however is that the protagonist isn't evil, it's a stretch to call him an anti-hero even. He's quite a good guy actually and has the ability to bullsh*t his way to making everyone around him like him.

The only... more>> disappointing part up to 193 for me was:

Spoiler

When Yang Yuntian who held a grudge against the MC found out the MC was actually his beloved masked 'senior brother' and rather than having any actual development, he just fainted and woke up with amnesia of having hated the MC at all- with nearby characters saying 'it must be a defense mechanism' - this was probably meant to be comedic and it is, in a certain light, but given how well put together the rest of the story was, it just feels like a cheap excuse for 'I couldn't think of how to resolve this, so plot armour' on behalf of the author.

[collapse]

The pacing is great- something is always happening, it feels like a consistent flow and if it weren't for the fact the site I read this on had the chapters arranged into 'volumes' - I wouldn't have even felt like there were arcs. There's no slow slice-of-life in this.

The MC remains in the middle-upper range of power throughout the story and is never at really at a level (outside of the beginning 30 chapters) where he's unbeatable by those around him.

The power scaling in this world is great too- ten rank 3 (Golden Core) can take on a rank 4 (Lower-Middle Nascent Soul) and win, there's no 'heaven and earth' gap separating the realms that makes all of the battles during the war arc feel like all the weak cultivators are purely fodder, enough fodder can actually have an effect on the battle outcome by taking down the enemy elites.

The World itself is well built and very interesting. I saw someone complaining about people not finding treasures etc, the vast majority of the treasures the MC picks up are buried below the ground. And most of them aren't that good, meaning the sect master who is a Gold Core realm cultivator wouldn't care about such trinkets anyway. My second gripe is that the MC, despite being quite intelligent, doesn't fully utilise his system. There are many times he could use it in a way that I would use it, but doesn't. I wonder if maybe that's just the difference between our priotiries but after the MC:
Spoiler

Made the Sword Girl his Dao Partner (guaranteed future wife basically) it continued to bug me that he didn't just use the system to find his perfect match/soul mate, because the system states in an earlier chapter that it's possible to find her, no matter where she is in the world. It sorta feels like a billionaire settled with a 40 y/o single-mother who works as an escort when he could've had a woman that would be literally the best in the world... Or a fat man dating a really hot chick but doesn't bring anything to the relationship - as the Chinese would say, a toad eating swan meat? I think that's how that idiom goes.

[collapse]

Anyway- Really liked it. Felt almost as bummed as I did when I caught up to Way of the Devil, but WotD has a way cooler MC imo.

EDIT: Just have to address the other review rating this at two stars- I didn't even consider this as a 'gag' or comedy novel? Maybe you came into this expecting this to be that but to me though there were funny moments, I felt like this was just a good, casual story.

Also the other review saying his cheat is basically meh, I have to completely disagree. His cheat is insanely powerful- but as I said before, he just doesn't use it in the right way. The main issue is he doesn't use his chances to seek powerful opportunities; instead he seems to be focused on finding treasure. Like, he has tickets to find anything within 500, 000km, he could use it to search for inheritences or legacies, or anything that might just powerlevel him to max level- instead he's constantly finding herbs and ores. He also doesn't use the ability of the system to find loyal and competent underlings- another thing he could do is pick up some evil cultivation method and use the system to track down innate spirit bodies and steal their potential. IDK- there's a lot of ways this cheat can be used but just isn't. (Again, the MC is a good guy. If it were me, I would never have joined a sect to begin with and instead try to search for cultivation stealing inheritances/treasures, why bother working so hard to cultivate and travel around to find treasure to level up when you can just absorb other people's effort then take their things when they're dead.) <<less

mr kkogh didn’t read the story at all.

Nowhere in the tags did it say that it was a gag, humor story.

Actually reading it, you will see that everything has alignments which is carefully placed by the authors. Everything is given weight and people has their own sh*t and lives. It’s a very good novel, but the cheat just loses it’s way in the mid parts of the story because the MC is so op. Sh*t translations tho never translate and ruin a good book again

Im reading the mtl atm and I can't say its good, but I wont say its bad either, its just kind of repetitive
Spoiler

the MC just gets captured by "bad guys" and then uses them to gain strength, at first he gets captured by the demon sect or whatever and eventually he gets close to them, after that MC gets captured by the monsters and he has to pretend he's one of them

Overall, an average xianxia: the first half is above average with a light tone, which is a little bit different from classical novels and is worth reading, but the second half is pretty much the same as in all immortal xianxia you've probably read and is really quite boring.

i like the writing style. Not as bloated as a typical chinese LN. The downside is the writer is careless. MC using skills that he shouldnt have or not using skills that he had that could solve problems more efficiently. Another downside is his main skill conveniently is changing the scopes of its power depending on the writers wim. That is the problem of LN that got more than 300 chapters and chinese- instead of telling a more realistic story from moving to point a to point b, the writer... more>> made it as complicated as possible to be able to reach more than 300 chapters. With this process a good story end up garbage instead. Example of this MC was in prison with 10 people and he got a turtle that could destroy any array. Instead of breaking the array he bribe the guard with something and the guard turn off the array entering the prison alone. Writer havent realized how s*upid that was. Instead of simple solution he opt for illogical solutions. There is a lot of instances that kind of things happen. <<less

Not a bad work from WebNovel. A somewhat appropriate ending, shockingly.

MC is pretty OP. The system is quite strong, helping him find tons of opportunities, so much so that the MC barely has to do cultivating on his own. However, he does have to do a lot of studying and research to gain knowledge of what he's looking for or using, since in the beginning the functions are quite limited. Once we get to the immortals arc it got pretty chaotic and he had too many strong enemies, which was... more>> frustrating. Definitely started feeling a little overwhelming from then on. Author forcefully drags some characters from the original world all the way to the end, and the wife is literally just pregnant in the background for 70% of the story lmao.

Translation leaves much to be desired with mistaken pronouns and often no distinctions being made btw similar but different words. Like in the original world, there were 2 different groups/races both called demons. Literally would be talking about humans and demons fighting against demons. Definitely need to use your brain to extrapolate. <<less

If it didn't read like MTL, this deserves 3.5 to 4 stars. But considering the headache you have to put up with to read this, 2.5 stars would be generous. I used word replacer extension to try and make some names/terms uniform, but it did little to help improve the experience. Other than that, it's a regular xianxia that starts off interesting and enjoyable. Author quickly switches to make-it-up-as-I-go mode and then the pace picks up. It's still fun, but you'll notice the pace accelerating like the world population graph... more>> for the last 200 years. I'd say the first half is a fun read, the second half is a disappointment. The end is a wreck. <<less

This is an interesting read. Though at some points it gets quite unreal, but bearable nonetheless. I gave a four cuz the FL was forgotten by the time it was 400-500 chaps only mentioned in passing. It has a great way of ending and was very satisfactory.

When I read a certain person's review, calling it a gag-novel and MC insulting people to get jelly points, I was wondering if I was reading a completely different novel. There's no such thing, no jelly points, no One Punch Man feel, no Fist of Fury either. MC is a transmigrator who activated a treasure detection system. The distance starts off small and he gets milestones rewards from using it. The distance will grow as his cultivation realm grows. MC uses this to find tons of buried treasures and such... more>> so that his cultivation speed is like riding a rocket speed.

The humor is focused on where the MC, possibly an Emmy Award winning actor, acts righteous but is actually trying to scam people with falsehood and half-truths. So there's a lot of thick face shameless things the MC does that gives the reader a good chuckle. I enjoyed this novel because there's no repetitive exploration arcs with x and y people. And there's no competition arcs where you fight one just to go to another and then another. There's a lot of focus on the MC trying to develop whatever sect he is associated with.

The bad thing is the translation quality. Some are decent, some are MTL quality, and it feels like 10 different people are translating one single chapter. Simple he and she is messed up and the name of cultivation realms, places, things, keep changing so you have no clue what's going on at times. Other than that, I think people should give it a try since it's already completed. <<less

Uh, I think the whole thing is very basic. Kinda weird how there are tons of treasures that nobody has found on the sect. I mean, cmon, there’s probably at least thousands of disciples walking about on a daily basis and ur telling me that nobody, even after tens of thousands of years, has found all this treasure? I get the underground stuff, but cmon, everything else would seem pretty easy to find right? The cheat itself is average, and you really need to suspend your disbelief to enjoy this... more>> story. The fact that there are tons of treasures around that nobody has found before? Has no person who was slightly good at appraising objects ever pass by and go, oh boy that’s some good stuff right there, and picks it up and runs off with it? The fact there is so much treasure around him really requires some suspension of disbelief. <<less
