I Became A Flashing Genius At The Magic Academy

Description

A character with extreme difficulty and the worst performance, Baek Yu-Seol was considered tr*sh in the game because he couldn’t use magic in a fantasy world where everyone else could.

However…

[Due to the wrong ending, 90% of Aether World has been destroyed.] [Please reach the ‘True Ending.’]

Suddenly, those words echoed in my mind before I was transmigrated to the Aether World.

[You can use the skill ‘Flash’.]

“Why did I possess this character?”

Flash was the only magic skill I was given.

Surviving in Stella Academy where many genius mages ran rampant, I became the notorious Flash Mage.

Pretty promising novel. It's too early to give it a five star review I'm being honest, but what I can say is that it is, at the moment that I'm writing this review, without a doubt one of the top ten, arguably top five most interesting and readable novels currently being translated. It's already better than tr*sh of Count's Family by chap 20, I'll say it like that. Thanks to the translator.

As others reviewers have already mentioned, though isekai, it has an interesting concept of layered transmigration (Game that is an otome in which the heroine is transmigrated from a reality of a modern world, into the "original" story of a novel.) Its very much a misunderstandings story, and as such it will not be for everyone.

But from my admittedly limited experience on this novel and other reviews, its far more amusing than it is frustrating, because the main man is genuinely just trying to survive, has tried to be nice... more>> to some and is a troll to others, and as such gets roped into matters. To not mention being a wizard of a single spell and a commoner in an academy of elites.

Its ripe with shenanigans and misunderstanding, but it leans far more into being enjoyable developments than simply the author "Stalling" on a realization via denseness or miss-interpreting intentions. <<less

Being translated again, it has a great introduction.

Great work from the new translator, MC not op, a premise a little original; our MC is not the only one changing the world and is not very strong even. Let's see how he turns the tables...

I'm just curious about the world he left behind... I hope author could write extras like in "tsukimichi" about that.

The Synopsis might need a little tweaking but it kinda explains the goal of the novel.
MC gets isekai-ed into a video game.
Spoiler

To keep things even more interesting - there's another character in the video game's story who got isekai-ed into a novel which is currently the video game - so technically while this character is from the "real world" their world is also based in the fictional one.

[collapse]
A slightly unique take on isekai - the MC is only good at one type of magic while being a wizard - because he has some sort of medical condition which is also beneficial to him in a way? Idk its not really explained well.

Can't really say anything about the writing since its currently only machine translated - if u check the current translators site it has a disclaimer explaining that while its a "high quality MTL" it may have issues - which it does, im sure other reviewers have mentioned it. If the translations get sorted out, this could be a decent novel.

While they have made the MC look weak with his singular ability, it does seem like he's besting everyone who has multiple abilities so wish that would tone down a bit so we could see him progress since this is a progression type novel and not an already-progressed type of novel.

So far so good, 3.5/5

the idea is good, I like a char with limited skill instead of stealing, copying, devouring all skill. His usage of flash is awesome ngl, but I can't bear with the flow.

Spoiler

at the early chapter when the gray robbed girl, kill the pursuer with ice magic. MC asked her why did she help him. She answered like, I don't help you (not in tsundere mode, but more flat tone). I was like sis, you just killed without a reason you were more dangerous. Then why you helped him? Were you just enjoy killing?

small disturbance, but it's ok, let's try a bit more.

[collapse]

then at enrollment whatever test.

Spoiler

MC already stated that he is on the bottom rank, and the school already showed us the top five. Then why not just divide the class based on that result. But no, somehow the academy wanted to test them again maybe to set a stage for MC to 'shock' people on combat test

[collapse]

so on the written test is the reason I can't bear it anymore

Spoiler

there are thousands student on the test. Somehow when MC pull out his spectacles to cheat, immediately the professor caught him (how?). Then the prof check his spectacles, found nothing wrong, gave back the spectacles. MC happy but after answered like 3 questions then the time's up (wut?).

then the prof checked mc's test then asked for his spectacles again. Prof found nothing wrong with it, then called another prof to check, and it's still nothing wrong. Then the prof said "interesting". Then nothing happened.

yup that awkward/weird scene is so out of the place for me.

why not just skip the written exam when there is nothing useful happened? Just glossed it over with. The written exam is hard for MC because he didn't know anything so he could only count on combat exam blablabla.

all the characters are actually really distinct and funny especially the MC half of the time he doesn't even know what he is doing since he doesn't remember the original plot and actually has to improvised to move the plot instead of completely following it, the heroine are great to they don't feel bland at all and each of them has their own motivations.

Very excited to see this being translated! It's a fun story with some familiar tropes (Character isekai'd into a video game world as his character, has to get the 'good ending' with his game knowledge, has a special skill that carries him through many problems while also being a problem in and of itself).

One thing that sets this apart has been its focus on the characters, as well as how the story uses the idea of multiple forms of media to change the world. I'm reminded of the differences in... more>> the Witcher books and games, and how people being brought into one would have a very different view of many of the themes and endings than the other would.

Looking forward to seeing more! <<less

Finally, a proper translator picked up this novel.

Story: 9/10

I like this kind of story where the MC has limited talent, instead of having all kinds of talents. So, we can see how MC will use his brain to maximize his limited talent.

... more>> Characters: 8/10

MC is likable and other characters have a real personalities. It's still in the early story, so nothing much to say.

One thing to note, I just hate the character's name. Some have western names, and some have mixed western and Korean names. Like, c'mon author... Can you just stick to one naming convention!!?

Overall, worth your time to read. It's currently one of my favorite ongoing novels on this site. <<less

The pace is kinda slow and hardly anything happens in the first 10+ chapter's but I'm holding on hope for something interesting to happen. 5 stars for now

I've read the MTL and found the concept fresh and engaging. The MC's ability to weave through the different challenges he face doesn't rely on the usual system BS, but the creative use of his limited arsenal. I don't have any strong opinions on other characters as I've read only this far yet, but so far I can see it's pretty promising.

The translation is decent, and I'm hoping the translator keeps up at it. I'll revisit this after it reaches 100+ chaps, though I have an overall pretty good impression... more>> about this novel. So if you don't have anything else to read, and you want to take a dip on your not so usual take on isekai+magic academy, then this novel is worth a try. <<less

Very thankful that proper translations got picked up! I read ahead from the previous translations, but this translation seems to be the most consistent to read!

The story itself is quite simple, but the world-building is also unique and interesting to learn about. MC still mostly sees the world as a game and has fun but is portrayed in a refreshing manner instead of being annoying/repetitive.
