Immediately after Gu Changge realized he had transgressed into a fantasy world, the world’s protagonist, and fortune’s chosen, vowed to take revenge on him. Envied by all, he not only has the female lead head over heels for him but he’s also treated as a distinguished guest wherever he goes. Fortunately, Gu Changge’s prestige and power are superior to everyone else’s, so shouldn’t it be easy to trample on a mere fortune’s chosen?

Hold on… There’s a system dedicated to milking and harvesting from the protagonist? Gu Changge smirked. “Seems like even fate wants me to fulfill my destiny as the Villain of this world!”

I Am the Fated Villain is a pretty interesting and fresh novel. The concept is pretty unique. It's not one that I've read about before. It does get boring and repetitive really quick since it always follow the same pattern. The MC is never in a precarious situation since the MC always have everything by the grasp of his palms. He's always 10 billion moves ahead of his opponent. There's harem, but it's barely noticeable. The translation does go downhill after chapter 300, almost borderline MTL.

It's worth noting that the Fantasy World Online website is run by some real dicks. They've not only pulled the ever-hilarious 'user-select: none' trick so their actual readers can't do something as heinous as select text, but just in-case you're an evil css-editing degenerate, they've also set up like four or five levels of redundant color settings so that you can't see what text is selected.

---

Honestly it's a bit concerning to see some reviews here calling the MC so cool or great or whatever.

He's an outright, literal, sociopath. He cares... more>> about nothing beyond his own convenience and amus**ent. Those around him are just bigger, moving versions of the dolls he played with as a kid.

The villain system here is just used to try to justify fulling the plot with cliche enemies. It creates no conflict or personal doubts in the MC, as the system is a p**sycat compared to him. It might ask him to suppress somebody, and then on a whim our MC will toss in a familial extermination on top just for funsies.

There's nothing inherently wrong with an unlikable as*hole of an MC, but I'm still not sure what the point of this is.

It's an OP-McOp-of-OPness MC with a system that makes him even more OP when he's a minor a**hole, which he would do anyway because the MC is the biggest a**hole. He just goes around being OP and getting more OP while being an as*hole for fun.

What's the point of this? The MC's power is just a constant asspull of OPness, so that's not the point. The plot is just constant low-effort cliches intentionally, and MC is so OP it doesn't matter even harder. The MC doesn't have any internal conflict or any kind of interesting character, so that's not it. Anybody around the MC just exists to be manipulated by him when he's bored, so no meaningful relationships there. It doesn't even serve as a tr*shy vehicle for faceslapping, as almost everybody immediately bows down to the MC anyway. And even if the MC diddo any faceslapping, he's so utterly unlikable I don't think it would do much.

So, yeah. I have no idea what the point of this novel existing is.

Based on the relatively high score, I've been pretty patient with it so far, but a potential purpose only seems to be getting further away. <<less

I really like the novel, but certain aspects could be improved and I wish were better. One example is providing a proper explanation of the cultivation ranks, I only know that one is stronger than the other because the author always writes whether they are strong or weak compared to MC or others. Another thing I dislike is how predictable some of the characters are in this story.

Yeah, he's a villain. He doesn't try to justify himself. He doesn't try to self reason. He doesn't even try to be a good guy. Its better than almost every other xian xia MC out there because at least he admits he is a villain and does villainous things, instead of pretending to be the "good guy" while proceeding to do the most evil sh*t ever.

He's a bonafide villain MC, who does evil for the sake of evil (and points).

In other words, he's basically every Xian Xia story's MC, except... more>> he admits he's an evil bastard that does evil things. And that's pretty fun. He has a reason to be evil, and that's to be evil cause he literally finds evil fun.

The only bad part about this story is that its a harem, and that usually means the female npcs are bland, s*upid, easy, and boring, and stop mattering once the better girl comes in. Although there are never explicit descriptions of s*x, there is implied r*pe (its a harem xian xia, there's always r*pe).

Anyways, if you can ignore shallowness of the the harem (of course you can, you are a web novel reader), then its a pretty good villain MC xian xia story where the MC is an actual villain. <<less

TLDR: Fiction that started out fun with a good premise turned into garbage by the severe lack of talent/experience of the author. I've seen better written fanfictions...
-
This is just the most disappointing piece of fiction I've ever read.
I started out with big expectations and enjoyed it thoroughly for a short while, until the illusion fell off and I realized how badly written it was.
Let me tell you this, writing quality is the biggest thing holding this back, and it's a huge problem.
Inconsistencies are everywhere. It's like author either can't make up his mind or has a mental disability that makes him forget stuff he wrote a chapter ago.
Expectedly, there are lots and lots and lots of fillers. I didn't mind it much since I've gotten used to that kind of thing, this is a chinese fiction after all. If fillers are annoying to you, you should retreat. This might be the fiction with the most fillers I've seen this year. Thankfully I've already mastered the art of skim reading lol.
There are lots of other things I want to touch upon, but honestly, I won't waste my time any further.

Edit: @seabell you're absolutely right by the way. I'm the fated villain isn't satire. It's ridicilous how they praise this as if it's a smart play on the tropes lol.

That's just my opinion of course, some people might think otherwise.

I am now at 500+ chapter and let me summary why a lot of people discontinued or dislike it, but so far I still like it.

Why our MC is cruel, sadist, and pretty much doesn't care about anyone is because he is different from the outside. From the early chapter we just know that our MC is inheritor of forbidden magic, but later we know that he's not the inheritor, but more like the devil itself. Our MC sealed his memory, and step by step he will have these memory... more>> again.

And for our son/daughter of heaven, from the first they appeared until they the end, they are always in our MC palm, he is literally becoming puppeteer.

Even character from early chapter, sometime will have big job in much much later chapter with some clue and guess what? Our MC ALWAYS KNOW who they are and he literally always have some plans for them.

Summary: Our MC is literally the Devil, he knows everything, if you son/daughter of heaven just pray that the Devil will not have eyes for you if you don't want to get f*cked <<less

A decent novel to pass the time with if you have nothing else to read.

The main character, Gu Changge, is the big bad villain of the story, with the purpose of plucking out individuals called "Fated Son of Heaven" (FSoH), basically the typical Xianxia protagonist. At first, it was quite refreshing to see the MC being calculative and manipulative to deal with the FSoHs, but it gets annoying and unnecessarily complicated with MC's scheming.

The FSoHs are obnoxious and I like to see their faces stepped on, sure, but not all... more>> of them are bad. Regardless of whether they are bad or good, MC still provokes and pisses them off, so he would have an excuse to kill them off, which would reward him with points for him to become stronger. I know that MC is the villain in the story and his goal is to become stronger by dealing with the generically obnoxious MCs, but it really just gets boring after a while.

In terms of worldbuilding, it's meh, but I don't think it would be too important in this type of novel.

Character development is inconsistent, as in when a new character is introduced and is relevant for a while, then is forgotten because they are useless to the MC, then reintroduced again in a few chapters to make a background appearance.
Spoiler

Su Qingge and Lin Qiuhan being the examples. The former still has some relevance in the story later on in the Red Devil arc but the latter literally just becomes a background character that gets mentioned once a while.

[collapse]

But there are some characters within the MC's that are done quite decently with their development. Notably:

Spoiler

Yue Mingkong, MC's fiancée, who was killed by him in her past life and somehow regressed back in time. Despite hating MC to the bone and swearing that she would kill him in order to prevent the disastrous future, she still held feelings for him. Noticing MC was distinctly different than the one who killed her, she softened up to him again and decided to help him achieve his goals. Even if Gu Changge kills her again in the future, which is unlikely, Yue Mingkong will let him, or if she decides to kill MC, which is also unlikely, she will do so and commit su*cide in order to be with him.

Gu Xian'er, MC's younger cousin/sister in the family, who got her Dao Bone dug out of her body when she was young by the MC and came back for revenge on him because what he did was unforgivable. Similar to Yue Mingkong, she hated MC at first, until she wasn't, because she found out what MC did back then (bone-digging) had underlying reasons, which were all fabricated by MC, and she completely forgave MC. She gets very fond of MC in the later chapters and even falls for him. The interactions she has with MC are quite fun. She acts like a little sister who argues with her older brother all the time, but loves him very much. The MC is also quite fond of her, but he doesn't show it because he has to keep his act up. Easily the most likeable and popular member of the harem.

[collapse]

Everything I've mentioned is pretty negative, but that's how I personally feel about the novel, but I'd still recommend reading it or giving it a try because it's not that bad, and is a lot better than the average Xianxia novel you can find on this site. <<less

We all know how China originated stories with *breaths* DRAGON AMONGST MEN, SOARING PHOENIX IN THE MIDST OF DIRTY PHEASANTS, ALFA WOLF OF THE PACK Chinese MC's go when women gets involved: ti*s up. Lol.

Before I get to it I have few complaints that you can skip. Like this whole paragraph. Here I go:

I really don't wanna go "Chinese this and that..." when what I'm doing is exactly it but hear me out here. Maybe it's because Chinese media is the one I'm consuming the most, but holly hell racism... more>> is insane, or patriarchy for that matter. Chinese knows best, or Chinese MAN knows best, logic is real funny when your brain not spamming alt f4. I don't even remember if it was that preminent in this story but the moment I saw the title to review it I knew my time has come.

End of the prologue.

Our MC is smart, charismatic, cold, calculative, rich... 100/10 man basically and we see him slapping everyone left and right. If not in one chapter, then he doubles down in the next. I was going along with the flow until I wasn't.

Women man I tell ya. For "things" that are there just to make our MC look desireble and hot and sexy, they sure mess up the story a lot. (My rant is still not over ig lmao) Perfectly fine MC rends incapable by the hands of NPCs with b**bies, by that I mean they have no other trait than them being women. MC messes up, gets his ass almost exposed, gets slammed around... I would have found females cool if they did stg worthwile to achieve that yk. I can't really explain it man my feminism is just raging and it's hard to put it to words. It just happened cause MC is weak against females, you get what I mean? Like not the intelligence, calculative nature, exreme wealth nothin no, JUST SOME DAMN b**bIES-

So in the end he/harem looked so pathetic that I dropped lol.

This novel got me so tilted omg. "Master of Gu" wanna be but can't in 100 lifetimes. Fang Yuan would slap this imbecile left and right, Bing Bing (lolol) would give every woman here a run for their money. In short, I just wanna bleach my eyes with Master of Gu bible pls. <<less

Good novel but gets repetitive and boring later on

This novel has an evil MC but he's too apathetic and lacks emotions, not in terms of morality but him as a person. He has no hobbies, no clear goal to speak of, which makes this boring to read. Add on top of that the need to talk about how awesome the MC is in every other chapter and it becomes very repetitive. I really liked the earlier chapters, but the disappointing lack of character growth from the MC makes me wanna... more>> stop right here. <<less

tr*sh.

Everything seems plane, u start the series and u understand nothing, the cultivation system is just useless because most of the characters ignore it, the MC just have a shop where he powerlevel at garbage price, tbh the writter is so lazy that didnt put other options, prize, reasoning, or something.

But what triggers me is the harem, not comments, he exist, they fall for him, even if he's a piece of tr*sh.

Dont expect any explaining of his previous life, his reincarnation, the shop, the world, settings, etc. Is just a... more>> copy paste of hero 1 get owned, steal female 1, buy power (that he doesnt even need since he's already op) to use 1 time, and not even appear in 80 chapters.

I apologize for anyone that readed this garbage, I read monthly all in the top 40, and this is the worst cultivation novel (even villain novel) that u can find. <<less

can't stand his sister and fiancee holy sh*t they are so annoying its crazy

dude been trying for 70 chapters to fix them, barely made any progress holy

his fiancee doesn't like when other women are around MC but she herself doesn't like when he's around her cause "she fears for her life" like where is the f*cking logic she even sends people to find out the women that MC is spending time with. MC gives her some ultra mega rare sh*t she takes it and is like "omg I cant believe... more>> he's so nice to me" just to revert back to "no he's just a scheming son of a b*tch" in 3 seconds that's why there's no f*cking progress like whens he ever been scheming against you you s*upid b*tch

his sister's f*cking braindead how did she even survive her past life with the way she is acting, like, original MC killed people for the smallest things yet she somehow survived talking sh*t and threatening him each time she sees him

they all going in a circle MC does something they are impressed but then they like "no he's that and he did that" or "he is just scheming against me don't fall for him" at this point I don't even know how the f*ck he gonna fix them like what is he supposed to do <<less

The uniqueness of this story is that it doesn't rely heavily on typical cultivation trope to move the plot. It's there to put action into context.

The MC of this novel is a cold, self-centered and ruthless villain. He's cunning and calculative. The best part of this novel is the manipulations of fortune chosen. While some fortune chosen are ret*rded and sounds ret*rded, the author takes time to explore the reasoning and thought process of some fortune chosen expecially women XD. While the male fortune chosen or so called protagonist gets... more>> the short end of the stick repeatedly, but the MC not going to let fortune dictate his story. <<less

;Things in this story is hard to imagine in your head and all the descriptions are disgustingly exaggerated and feel very pretentious. Not a bad story but it's really grating to read the writing style, it's hard to imagine and enjoy the story because of the way author describe everything in the novel. Descriptions of everything in this novel is too verbose and doesn't make sense such as characters appearance, places, gestures etc.

The author will describe things in the most ret*rded way possible that it doesn't even make sense anymore. The word "Describe" is to depict. But in this story author use of descriptions makes it harder to imagine what was being describe. ❗For example❗
Spoiler

These are the lines from the novel:
🔸Brilliant silver light bloomed in her hands, like silver vines rooted in the Void (It's just spiritual qi coming out of her hand. The word 'void' really keeps appearing out of nowhere wtf.)
🔸youth's eyes was even more terrifying, with showed stars floating around, and holding the might to easily crush anything (it can't crush anything, it's just eyes and the "stars" here means reflection of lights but author decided to describe things with verbose and nonsensical words didn't even say the eye color)
🔸besieged by several people in the Void, her figure swept across the sky and she pointed her slender finger that filled Heaven and Earth with an unparalleled aura of an Empress' majesty. (They're actually not in a void but author keeps using "void" to describe just any "surroundings" in the story to forcefully sound cool. Heaven and earth is basically just "sky and the ground ")
🔸The mighty winds made his satin crystal-like hair flow around like ink feathers.
🔸—things that look like a star vein. (What even the fvck is 'star vein'?)

[collapse]

Not to mention author keeps repeating descriptions of the characters again and again to make the chapter longer but even after hundreds of chapters I still have no idea the exact descriptions or appearance of characters, 90% of characters I don't even know their hairstyle or eye color because author likes to describe using cryptic words. So just don't bother with the descriptions, just imagine whatever you want. So if you hate how chinese authors describe characters like "Jade-like skins, Phoenix-like eyes and sword-like eyebrows" then you should expect worse in this story. The descriptions here is way way way worse than those novels. Author even use "Willow-like eyebrows, Divine-like visage, Lips like a rose, Calm forehead, Ancient eyes, peacock-like hair, eyes as if they're plucked from the stars etc" I forgot many of them but lots of new descriptions were invented by the author and I don't even know what the fvck it even means. 'Star vein' is just one of them.

And worse, the author sometimes say so much flowerly words but forgot what the thing that was being describe like this line for example 'Bunch of green strings flows, fluttering in the void' the author is basically just talking about a green hair being blown by the winds but the word 'hair' isn't even there. ---

That aside the plot of the story is alright, I enjoy the schemes and manipulations in the story. Interaction between characters is also fun. It's just really hard to enjoy because the verbose and inconsistent descriptions that ruin the immersion. But if you plan to read this i'll list what to expect:

🔻MC is the cunning "Villain" of the novel fighting against "Dumb xianxia Protagonists". There are also female version of "Xianxia Protagonists"
🔻Side characters possess reason and some are also smart. There are a mix of Dumb and Smart characters but both are interesting.
🔻MC Guilt-trips his girls.
🔻Faceslapping. Flexing. Show-offs.
🔻Bad Cultivation Elements: Chunni skill names that doesn't really explain what the skills is about and author also refuse to explain what it is used for or what it can do. Plot holes and confusing description of skills. Specifically the Logic is really bad from talents, mystical arts, techniques, bloodlines etc. This is by far the Worse chinese cultivation that i've read. (This is the Kryptonite or Achilles Heel of the story, so don't bother understanding the concept of powers here or you'll be disappointed.)
🔻The beginning 50 chaps of the story is a bit bad because MC's character had lots of inconsistency but inconsistencies disappear after 100+ chapters and it gets better. So read this story for character interactions not for it's cultivation. PS: But of course the pretentiousness of the story never gets better. Read it without much expectations and you might just enjoy it.

If you ever wondered what would happen if a japanese tried writing a chinese novel, this is it. The two main themes are Bias and Misunderstandings. They constantly happen, it's the main way of moving plot, the main point of comedy, etc.

Everyone looks at MC as if he is Evil Incarnate, at the same time people judge each other differently, if MC does something, it's evil, someone else does it, it's good. Of course it is more complicated than that, but that's the general way things go.
Everyone has their own bias, MC thinks he's not evil, despite killing an entire sect with hundreds of thousands of people simply cause one dude from that sect had a spine.

Disappointingly, harem tag really ruins this novel a lot, MC says he's good cause he doesn't choose to kill the girls, despite killing so many irrelevant or innocent people. Harem tag also means that all women are wired in such a way to love MC, even those women who have 0 reasons to love him and 100 reasons to kill him.

In the end MC is just the same Protagonist that he supposedly kills off, a psycho who believes he is right, but that's the theme here, all characters are extremely twisted in their thinking process. It's just annoying that the novel makes itself out to be MC beating up bs protagonists, but then we see that half of those protagonists are women that still do bs but instead of MC beating them up MC tries to get into their panties.

Recommend to read from Fantasy World Online, they have both Tl and Ed, much better quality and ease of reading + they comment on the points that could be hard to understand etc. Divine Dao Library translates in a very different style, which was interesting at first, but they literally cut out paragraphs from the novel, also grammatical f*ck ups and so on, women get described as "timber" wtf I see in dictionary it can be used as an adjective but come on that's such a shitty word to use to describe a woman's appearance I can't stop myself from imagining a tree with a human face and makeup wearing a dress with jade branches for fingers ffs.

oh and btw people are s*upid in this novel, problem is you can read their inner thoughts and all, which makes them look extra super s*upid

Spoiler

girl returned into the past and saw that some things are different, but instead of trying to find out where those differences begin and end and why are they there, she just says whatever and doesn't bother with it, que next sentence "oh my god! Why are things sooo different?! F*ck if im gonna check the history, it's totally cause I went into the past and changed something, whatever, don't think about it." Then something happens again that goes against her future memories and repeat

Also sometimes it happens that author changes some details, i.e. One reason was given for something happening, but later a completely different and less persuasive reason was given when reminding of the event. It's annoying af

• The writing is fairly simple and straightforward. The sentences are generally short and to the point without much complexity in syntax or grammar. This suggests the writing is aimed at a less sophisticated readership.

• There is minimal use of figurative language like metaphors, similes, or imagery. The writing relies more on describing events in a literal, matter-of-fact way.

• The pacing is fairly fast with the plot moving quickly from one event or revelation to the next. There are not many descriptive interludes that slow down the pace.

• The tone... more>> is generally neutral to slightly positive. There is no real attempt at creating a darker, brooding tone. The focus is more on action and plot development.

• There is minimal character development or insight into the motivations and psychology of the characters beyond the superficial. The characters seem more like plot devices to drive the story forward.

• Information is relayed primarily through dialogue and descriptions of events and actions. There are few insights into the inner thoughts or feelings of characters.

• The writer relies heavily on telling the reader what is happening rather than showing through sensory details, metaphors, or pacing. There is a predominance of "expository" writing over "descriptive" or "reflective" writing.

In summary, the writing exhibits many characteristics common in genre or commercially focused writing like web novels - a fast pace, straightforward description of events, and minimal character development or stylistic flourishes. The focused, no-frills style ensures the story moves along quickly and information is conveyed efficiently, though there is little attempt at stylistic sophistication. <<less

The MC is very rational and most importantly his freaking cool and manipulative he always keeps everything under control and crushes his enemies although thay cant even be qualified to be called an enemy at most Leeks.

This novel's rating can swing so hard from 1 star all the way to 5 star depends on the reader type.
Despite my 5 rating, I will explain the novel's plot from a neutral point of view (well, at least I tried to be as neutral as possible).

If let's say you enjoy with the MC screwing the 'heaven's chosen' (a.k.a the MC in most of other titles)
while collecting his pokemo...i mean harem. Through the normal / evil way.
And literally skipping most of the other things you usually find in other titles (alchemy, training arc, dungeon crawling, run to fight another day, etc)
You will most likely give it a 5.
*he leveled up as fast as opening your item bag, pick rare candy, give it to your pokemon. done. yes, that fast.
*dungeon crawling part is mostly done by the 'heaven's chosen' with him just tagging along behind like a stalker (much faster&efficient).

If you're searching for something truly unique / hated the stuff I mentioned above, then I could safely bet 1 rating is the common result.

At the end of the day it still suffers 'wait, I have seen this plot before' disease.
Most others mc: leveling--> fight & win--> move on to other area
if can't win, run while abusing plot armor (most of the time) --> back to leveling--> round 2--> win--> move on to other area
[with getting the poke.. harem member somewhere around the leveling to fight phase]
:cough: poke.. harem member that was already caught will most likely receive a HUGE nerf on her screen time.
it could even escalate to 'um, who are you again?' because it has been too long since she last appeared :cough:

This mc: mostly already overleveled--> thinking on how to dismantle the 'heaven's chosen plot armor'
--> level up even more for lol--> steal (s) the 'heaven's chosen' poke.. harem member
--> literally killed the 'heaven's chosen' easily since the 'plot armor' has been dismantled
--> move on to find another victim & poke.. harem member
(can't say yet what will happen to the poke.. harem member after joining him. since I haven't read THAT far.
but I'm willing to bet they will mostly disappear too)

Although I quite love this novel, it might not be for everyone. This novel is more about destroying cliche protagonists of Chinese literature. The conflict can be lacking since the "heroes" who act as the antagonists of the novel do not poise much of a threat. They are more like puzzles that randomly throw out bullsh*t than actual dangers for the villain MC. The meat of the story is him solving these "puzzles." He carefully dismantles them until they are nothing and takes their fortune for himself as reward. It... more>> is a novel more about seeing how the "heroes" fall than seeing who comes out on top. <<less
