edit: meant to click four stars. :/

Its your typical transmigrate into the past and avenge the wrong's done to the body you've taken over... yeah not so much.

Spoiler

Its more a confident, foodie with a clever mouth has her soul merge with the servant girl of a powerful cruel family. She plots to escape for months and when she finally gets her chance she happens to save the gentle nobleman scholar that family had kidnapped and tortured.

Hyjinks, world defying love, more hyjinks, founding a restaurant empire, more hyjinks, several princes of the realm, a martial arts master, one or two more hyjinks, and a half a dozen out of body adventures ensure. Also a couple wars. :-p

[collapse]

The world building is sufficient. The secondary characters are fairly well developed. It sets an odd tone between comedy, romance, light intrigue, fight scenes etc. The main focus is the life defining love between our leads. It would be mockable except the part of this story the author actually sat down and really developed well was their romance.

If the author had taken the rest of the events and settings a little more seriously this would have been a very different book and not nearly as much fun. The adventures shift quickly especially during the last half.

If you are in the mood for a fun, addictive and ultimately light hearted novel, you should check this out.

Such a good novel. Different from the other historical novels. Female lead is mature and independent. Atleast she knows how to use her brain.

Cutest male lead. He is very shy and definitely not overbearing and op. Their interactions are so cute, I had a big smile every time they interact.

Should definitely read it if you like shy type of ML and bold fl.

For all the cracky premise, and blatant OP on the part of the protagonist, I found the story rather sweet, funny and, most importantly, full of common sense. There was an understandable (if swift) falling in love, between a very decent ML and MC, who didn't go around committing highly dubious acts to out-right atrocities, but worried about thing like mutual consent. Both had a fair amount of common sense about their love and relative stations in life, however they were very clear about them being each other's equals.

The story... more>> wasn't harsh reality, but full of loving, sincere and mostly understanding people who didn't understand ML's choices in life, vehemently disagreed in fact, but eventually arrived at the conclusion that he was not going to be dissuaded, and so went along with it. The relationships between various characters were all rather sweet.

Also, this novel acknowledges some of the inherent problems of transmigration and deals with it (although the original owner of the body is only talked of as an ability, not as a real, if mentally deficient person). It also acknowledged the often ignored fact that OP strength does not skill give, and OP skill does not strength give.

The h*mophobia though, is definitely present, and a part of the discussion anytime there is a villain. <<less

I love the dynamics between the couple. I imagine this is what unconditional love is. MC is a strong woman and ML supports her and just lets her be. ML is strong himself but always gives in to MC. Nice flow to the story, but I'm kinda left hanging in the end. I guess the author wants to leave it to readers imagination on how the rest of the story goes. I would recommend reading this. It's entertaining and worth your time.

While I do enjoy having a strong, independent FL, what I really appreciate about this novel is the way the ML supports the FL's independence. It's refreshing to have a ML that isn't arrogant or overbearing. The FL and ML have a very sweet and wholesome relationship. I definitely recommend this novel!

I only made it to the part where

Spoiler

The MC+ML walk right into an obvious ambush point for the antagonists. I mean the MC did a pretty good job with her initial escape plan, and they were in disguise for most of their trip (cross-dressed), but they both derp it up by revealing their true selves right before they reach the ML's brother. It doesn't take a genius of strategy to station an ambush just before all the major locations your lost prisoner might flee to when you've lost their trail.

[collapse]

before I dropped it.

But that was just the final nail in the coffin. I felt like the character development was kinda forced.

Spoiler

At first the MC has an understandable trauma given how she died in her first life, but it seems to soon be forgotten? At least as far as I made it in the story. She's also supposedly cold hearted and not looking for love but then suddenly changes her mind because the ML has a nice face. Maybe if the author leaned into the fact that she had a history of regret falling for good looking men? But here she goes from not caring about his life or death to wanting to marry him despite thinking traditional/archaic views will be troublesome. She doesn't even seem to even react when she finds out that the ML's kidnapping was due to the fight for the throne? I mean talk about a metric ton of baggage to take on when she wants to live freely? Oh, but love conquers all! /Sarcasm

Tbh, I kinda have fun reading this. However, compared to the author's other works, I can say that this is not as detailed nor thorough as the others. It's fast paced, like, really fast paced. Of course, the romance was fast as well. I don't really have problem with fast paced romance, however, the happenings here were kinda messy because of how fast things progresses, and thus, it also lacked details.

But, I really like the FL and ML's character design though. Proactive FL x shy ML✊. Although their character is... more>> not that detailed, at least their role in their relationship were vividly shown. Also, I like how the FL was able to adapt in that period of time but still retained her principles as a modern woman. She knows when to bend and knows when to be stubborn. The ML, that shy little cutie, was gentle but also sticks to his principles. He's the FL's greatest support. Albeit the conflict in their relationship was kinda s*upid, it's fine. It was resolved quickly anyway.

Plot wise, if it'll be more detailed, it'll be even better. The rebellion, the war, their adventures, etc. Were all not bad, it's just (again and again and again) it lacked the details needed for a more thorough and engaging story. And also, I was confused with the seniority and family relation in the Yu state. For example, the ML was sometimes called Fifth uncle by those people who called the FL sister in law. Or the great grandmother that the FL and ML spoke of, but then it turns out that she's the ML's father's mother? Should it be grandmother then? Anyway, I just didn't pay much attention to them and their seniority as it's just making me confused. They're not an integral part of the story anyway.

However, I'm very dissatisfied with the ending. Too abrupt and there's a lot of loose threads. Like, wth happened to the empire, the then 6th Prince an now crown prince, the ninth Prince, and the others there when they suddenly just disappeared?

Overall, it's not bad for a fast read. It's quite funny and sweet. The translation is not bad from the beginning to the end. Aside from a very fast pace and abrupt ending, I really enjoyed reading it, especially because of their character design. 8.5/10 for me (could've been 9/10 if not for the ending). <<less

A few chapters in and I like the way FL and ML interacts with each other

FL is smart, independent, not someone that needs to be saved by the ML all the time. The ML is gentle and cute, he's a scholar. It's quite rare to find a novel like this, not one where the ML is overbearing, rich, pe*vert, etc it's kinda refreshing. (If yall have more do tell :D)

I think their love is developing too fast?? In the first few chapters the FL said that she was traumatized... more>> by her ex so I thought the development will be slow, but all it takes was a few days together and she's already in love again?

The second young master's (i think) death was to dull. Like he literally killed and tortured many but he died with just one stab?? I know they (FL & ML) were in a rush but they could've add a few more stabs or something... <<less

I've held good expectations for this novel since the rating is so high. I was kinda disappointed. The romance feels quite shallow, rushed, fast paced which made me unable to feel anything for the characters even when the first kiss happened.

The overall novel seems lackluster and boring, since there's neither good fluff nor plot line. It mostly seems basic for me.

Maybe I would've been interested in this when I was new to novels. The story was not bad but not good either.

The only thing that interested me somewhat was mc's... more>> character. She's quick to come into her senses and decide what's best for her.

An okay read, I guess. <<less

The story is really well written. I love the ML and the FL and all the side characters. Some of them might seems so unlikable at first, but they change over time (character development). Also it has HE for all the side characters and main lead couple.
FL is strong and smart but not overly OP and smart. She just seems like a normal person with good head. ML is soft and a beauty. He loves our MC so much. They’re sweet and stick together. Definitely recommend this. Also a review stated about the offensive homophobe line in here. I was skeptical at first but I didn’t see anything homophobe in there. Yes, there’s a gay siblings that r*pe male and female. And everyone was disgusted but if you consider the timeline in the story and the deeds they did, it’s logical that everyone was disgusted.

Over all a good plot. The end was a little... bizzare but then it is transmigration novel so that little bizarre was necessary. Unproblematic plot which was basically us vs the world kind

FL saves ML repeatedly and ML essentially gives up his life of comfort after being saved to be able to marry and be worthy of FL. Good for a quick binge.

Another story with the gild being dominant in the relationship. The MC is not a typical Mary Sue lady as normal Chinese novels.

She is strong and clear minded. Has a clear line in her relationships.

A very well written book just as this authors other book in the same world.

Loved the story.

First off there's something a little off with the translation. There is a he/she confusion, they call the main wives concubine and for some odd reason, the wives call their brother-in-laws uncles??? Just really off there but once you kinda figured out the whacky parts it's a smooth enough read.

Overall it's a good read. At first I was hesitant because they fall in love real fast (like bruh it's been like a few days) and there's a major star crossed lovers theme (aka nobel family objects the commoner wife, was... more>> totally gonna drop it if the story revolves around this) but it gets better down the road. In terms of romance there is a smoother flow after and the plot picks up after she goes to the capital

There is WARRRR, she gets sent to the modern world and wants to find back and whoop whoop she gets to go back to the modern world with him along

It has a happily ever after ending soooo that's great!

The main protagonist... she is realistic and very cheeky/playful (for some odd reason she says she's cold and don't believe in love blablabla you totally don't see this at all in the novel like NOT AT ALL) and I would say is under the lower spectrum of the OP protagonist category. She knows pastry making and cooking and art from her modern day life (golden finger alert) and the original owner of the body is super strong and knows martial arts and acupuncture (like damnnnnnn she can even beat those who have formal training after training for a while).

The male lead is low-key tsundere and is super shy. He goes from scholar to warrior real fast. His love for her never waivers (can't believe I wrote that, cue puke emoji) and he faces all sorts of punishments just to prove that he wants to be with her.

Though there are some plot holes and things that makes no sense, but overall, it is good enough. I think the major factor that made this story underwhelming is the fact there there is such a good premise and character set up but it wasn't the most well developed/utilised, making the entire story fall a little short of my expectations. However, it doesn't get boring (all of the elements that make a good story are there just that it's not elaborated so it's interesting enough) and you can finish it in a day. Give it a chance and it might just surprise you. <<less

Very fun and light and surprisingly unique story.
The translation is readable, but not very good (Still, thanks a lot for the translation dear translator).

The female lead is interesting and reasonably overpowered to the point it is fun, but not annoying. The body she inhabits is unusually strong from birth, but not the strongest ever, and she has to actually train. Afterwards, she can't defeat armies. She is good at cooking due to relevant experience in her previous life, but only enough to open a successful shop. No wars or tragedies are overcome with pastries.

The female lead is unique in that she is bright and bubbly and likes to tease her man, but she is not a fool and has her pride. It is a bit shocking to me this archetype is rare in these kinds of stories.

The male lead is also surprisingly unique, though he is unbearably beautiful as usual. However, this is part of the gender roles reversal here, where the FL is heroic and the ML is beautiful and elegant. He is a bit awkward, but he grows. He is loyal, brave and highly competent, but never overbearing because that is not his personality. He would rather pamper the FL or watch her drawing then throw her around.

The story is fine, the ending is a bit rushed. I would have liked there to be more about the female lead's friendships with the women around her, and maybe the ninth prince.

Spoiler

I would have also liked there to be a bit about them having children, but oh well.

[collapse]

About the depictions of homosexuality only in the context of r*pe here. I'm not one to be very sensitive about these things and I would like to say this is completely baseless, but thinking about the story the trend does seem a bit excessive. Out of four bad groups capturing the good guys, three were going to r*pe a male character. Sounds bad, I agree, but I believe this is part of the role reversal present everywhere in the story.

Instead of the female lead being captured and being threatened by r*pe, the male lead is captured and threatened of the same. It is just that the role reversal is confined to the main characters only so the result is homos*xual r*pe.

Also, I didn't feel any actual disdain towards gay people in the story. Some of the women found themselves flustered by the female lead in her male clothing while knowing she is a woman and this wasn't depicted negatively. Each his own though.

I loved how this novel is a breath of fresh air compared to the usual stereotypical BG couple. Like what @chiakiss mentioned, although many novels have the tag of strong fMC but they somehow are still saved by the ML in the end. However for this novel, the MC is the one protecting and saving the ml. She is the proactive one which I love very much. Despite the fact that the FMC is stronger than ml, their relationship is very equal and later on the ML also becomes more... more>> proactive around the FMC.

The only problem I have with this story is that the author seems very homophobic judging by the way she describes some of the scenes.

Overall this story is amazing I would definitely recommend this. <<less

The MC was loveable, smart, resourceful and practical. She's one of the few MCs that does not have any off putting character. However, I feel that the author should have developed the story more. It's like she would start an arch but then, after a few chapters (like 2-3 chaps.), the conflict will end without satisfying details or development.

Also, the ending felt quite unsatisfactory to me. It did not excite or made me delighted.
