For My Derelict Favorite

Description

I entered my favorite romance-fantasy novel, which I have read many times.

Thanks to the body of a wealthy commoner, I bought the status of a fallen aristocrat, attended a noble family’s gathering and observed the romance of the characters in the original novel.

I wanted to return to the real world after witnessing the ending.

But somehow, even after the ending, I was not freed from the body I possessed and remained living in the original novel.

As a result, I acquired the stories behind the scenes that I refused to comprehend.

My favorite sub male lead, Caelus, has died.

Living impoverished in the original work without him, I eventually fell ill and died.

Now, I wanted to return to reality.

However, the irony of fate has returned me to the end of the novel overnight. This is definitely… to save my beloved, right?

What I really love in this story is its slow romance, how their love story has grown from the scratch, from the trauma that ML has experienced from his first love and how the MC persevered to help the ML to revive his will to live and to love again. Aaawwww! And I'm so happy with the happy ending and glimpse of their family life with the kids!

I rarely read the MC that hellbent on revenge. The ogFL is frustrating but I can understand her.

5 stars because I really enjoyed the story despite everything.

Spoiler
    • I don't really like hestias "revenge for my beloved" when the beloved himself is "let bygone be gone".
    • I understand Hestia about loving kaelus bc I'm a fangirl myself. And I want to hug her whenever she questioned her new life. I don't like your way but I'm glad everything turned well for her.
    • I want to spray 10 gallons of holy water straight to the crown prince for daring to like her best friend's (who he betrayed before) wife.
    • I got sick satisfaction that kaelus suffered after he ""betrayed"" hestia (yes I know he did it for the empire and I do agree with him and his "let's focus on ourselves don't think about them anymore".
    • It's unfortunate we don't see how's diana in the end/side stories. I'm most curious of her. Last time she appeared, she seemed to be realizing what did she do wrong, but that's it.

The novel is very interesting, it tells us a different vision of a female protagonist who transmigrates in a novel and who wants to change things with respect to her favorite (as she tells him), and she is also one of the few protagonists who really feel that sensation of confusion about transmigrating into a novel, and thinks that this world is only a novel and does not take seriously things like "morality" and the consequences that her actions will have, so she moves forward without caring what they think... more>> of her as long as achieve her goals, I honestly liked her intrigues and machinations, and how she uses what she knows (because she is a reader) for her plans, I really loved the protagonist and her intelligence. At the beginning it is a unilateral feeling on her part, a love more similar to a fan's admiration for her idol, then little by little it warms Kaelus' heart and makes him fall in love with her until it makes him very lustful. Likewise, not everything is going very well since the dilemma arises as to whether this world is real or just a novel. It is these thoughts that prevent her from advancing further in her relationship with Kaelus, but in the end she manages to solve it with his help and they are happy. Together. <<less

I absolutely love the main couple. It's a late romance but once you get there, it's great!

The extras is also great! I love the Couple’s ending.

This was the first novel I read, and I read this a while ago. It not that easy to forget. Honestly, the manhwa is also very great! There are quite a bit of difference in the two that give difference vibes, but both are Is amazing in their own.

Spoiler

The manhwa has a more slow romance to it, building it more up in the eariler chapters, but I don't hate it. I quite love it! The novel is good too!

But I did feel slightly unsatisfied with the ending. But, it was still very good. <<less

I’m writing this review after re-reading this novel a couple months after my first read, and I still really like this novel the second time around. I find the whole thing strangely compelling, and as a result, I binge-read it on both read throughs. It’s an interesting take on the typical cliche troupe of the saintess marrying this prince, and this is one of the few novels that made me cry and laugh at times.

smooth translation... this was a fun calvacade of social machinations as a small side character seeks to assuage the devastation and depression of the 2nd ML while getting vengeance for him. She fervently undermines the 'happily ever after' male and female lead's relationship.

I liked the emergent [and typical] questions about identity and fate, but what I liked even more was the realistic depiction of depression and the destructiveness of a life fixated solely on revenge.

I will be honest first of all I was interested in this novel becoz of pic nothing else.... Tbh I have a special place for long white hair ML and black hair fl... That's why I became interested... But the story truly disappoint me!! First of all, our MC is a unreasonable person who is obsessed with taking revenge! ML never asked or knew her so how dare she brag in and take control of his mansion. If the novel truly based on royality then she would have been beheaded... more>> by now for trespassing. Novel shows how much royality means for them but who is our crown princess? Diana!!!... Laughable! She just want to be a God's favourite with lot of power to control ppl !! Both OGFL and FL are annoying aff... ML is a pitiful Duke who got dumped and try to su*cides bcoz diana's remark..

I mean dude? Like seriously? Novel says he is the Duke! I'm not against a depressed person but he was really unreasonable about it.... I think CP is the most reasonable character in novel... At least he is being reasonable.

It's like author lost interest while setting character of them.

Our MC doesn't cross the line with ML but that doesn't justify her action... If it's a reality then it's really creepy like "some fan doing things for their idol for their so called own good without their permission" <<less

fmdf has this one aspect that I couldn’t help but be incredibly charmed by. and hestia was that for me.

more than enjoying the plot and it’s execution, I enjoyed hes and her brilliant character.

normally, i’d dislike the whole “my only purpose in this life is to save my bias” (and, tbh, I did get resentful about it towards the last chapters) but she blinded me.

... more>> her CHARISMA omggg >>>>

when I thought of dropping after seeing where the plot was headed to, her antics, schemes and funny yet wholesome devotion to make kaelus’s life better had me staying.

this also brings me to the ML topic: cael was so-so for me. I sympathized with him, and then... that was it. oh, and that incident, I got so upset, like, yea, I understand the whole reasoning behind this decision, but was it enough to cover the pettiness I felt? NO!!

did I like his relationship with hestia? yes, but then I also liked hes and helius’ banter. enough to ship them? ofc not, but it got to a point that i’d rather read about their scenes.

could give 5 stars just for her, but one thing I truly wished for was more focus on her growth and a deeper insight into herself, not as cael’s savior but just as hestia. <<less

If you don’t mind the clinically depressed and cold ML + the late romance it’s a satisfying novel. The pacing is nice, no extreme-petty arguments, the ending was realistically mellowed.
The reason of this positive review is mainly OGFL Diana. I hate religious people who claim they have the moral high ground. That’s what Diana is in this story. Seeing her break down was so fun. I love how FL’s every word makes her uncomfortable. She is arrogant and she turned ugly too easily.

Everything in this story was more or less within reason. Maybe that’s why the ML Kaelus let me down so much. His last move bothered me a lot.

That’s it.

DISCLAIMER: this review is being written freshly after I'm reading it. Just straight out what I feel about it. May or may not change later.

I dont know. It has such good stories and plot in the beginning, but towards the end... it did not felt very satisfying. To be honest though, I kind of just scroll trough the epilogue and special chapter.

Personally, what i'd like to point out first is that, really? Hess being thorn wether she want to go back or not, wether she could accept the reality, and accepting Kaelus feelings, just get resolved like that? Seeing her favourite crying? I mean yeah, I would try to do anything if my favourite cry in front of me like that because of me, but. Really? That's all it took for her to decide she's gonna stay and accept the world as reality? At least if Hess decided that she will accept the world as her new reality, give it another reason. Hess said it herself, even though Kaelus is indeed her only reason wanting to stay in that world, Kaelus is not big enough of a reason in Hess life in real world. Kaelus may be her one and only reason to survive in that world, but he's not her one and only reason to survive in real world. Like, did Hess truly didn't want to go back to reality? Did Hess never considered any of her family, or friends in real world? It's never stated either that Hess living in a difficult life. Not stated that Hess is an orphan or her parents are dead. Never stated anything about having bad relationship with her peer. Is Kaelus really worth that much? It's very disastifying.

Second, the conflict in the end.... I'm pretty damn sure I get what Hess feelings when Kaelus decide that he will not let Diana get abdicated. All of that effort, just for this? I do get however what the author trying to say here. It's not a novel, it's the reality. And reality doesn't have to get that satisfying ends. In fact, it's better to end it peacefully without conflict. I'm fine with that, but... the scene after that? oh god. It felt so boring to get trough. It just aftermath after aftermath. Felt completely pointless, without direction, just happy things in general. It's probably another point the author wants to convey. The ending is not just the evil being defeated and bam, the story ends. There's always continuitation in life. But again, seeing this while I'm still disastified about the previous point? (Hess accepting the world as her new reality) making it more unbearable to read.

Third, I want to know how Diana's doing??? Did she repent? Did she met someone? Did she ever change? How's she doing?? They ended it with "Diana goes back to the temple (or is monastery?? I forgot the words) " and proceeds to never talk about what is she currently doing ever again. I myself, hated a character like Diana, but I would've love to see how she can grow, or maybe not grow at all. Again, I think its another point the author trying to convey: "Diana is not the MC, the world doesn't revolve around her"

[collapse]

Lastly, I still think Hestia should've asked more, should've received more. Hestia feeling over the moon by Kael doing the bare minimum still irk me. Like I'm not even talking about before Kaelus love her. Even after Kaelus love her, he did not do anything very impressive, he's just doing like before, but now he loves Hestia.
Spoiler

This man is not even trying to repay all of those things Hestia do to him before he love her. Wait, he did, only once though. Really. Only once. I did not want to count him crying and begging Hestia to not go as the way he repay her (preventing her death). That did not freaking count.

[collapse]

In the end, I more or less understand why the author makes a certain decision (maybe im wrong, idk) but still, I would've liked it more, if they put and explain more things. Still a good read though, didn't regret my time reading this. <<less

I enjoyed the story as someone who loves isekais with strong female leads and a good romance. Spoiler

*SPOILER ALERT* ML is first despondent and super depressed but the FL declares that she loves him and will exact revenge on his behalf while giving him space and encouragement. As she begins her revenge, she communicates her wins which helps him to get out of his depression. He begins to appreciate FL's efforts to exact karma and attain apologies from his first love and his best friend because they fell in love and abandoned him after he killed someone to protect his first love. ML's appreciation grows into respect as FL helps to manage his life and grow their power as nobility while he recovers from depression. I think ML realizes he likes her when he overhears a private conversation the FL has when she is asked if she truly loves the ML and she says yes with no hesitation and has a list of reasons ready. ML begins to let go of his first love as FL shows her competence while also exposing the first love's incompetence as a noble and also how FL is a symbol of hope for the future. FL first loves him as a character from a story and then has to overcome that idea that it is all fiction and that she was worthy to be with him.

Pros: ML and FL are consistent in their motives and honest and as a reader, I enjoyed that the ML and FL communicated openly, honestly and quickly. I had little to no frustration with miscommunication. Entertaining and pleasant smooth journey for main leads beginning to end.

Cons: FL never tells anyone that she's from another world even though she is bothered by it. The reason she ended up in an isekai is also not explained. There is also a lack of development of side characters who I would've enjoyed reading side stories about like the tailor, the butler, the salon lady and the society lady as well as no substantial mention of the impact the FL made by introducing concepts like medical clinics, specialized school for doctors, soap for all or even presentation strategies for documentation and diagrams. There was also a smut scene where the ML forced himself on the FL and was dismissive of her initial pain so I had to skip the scene.

Another reviewer mentioned that the ML stops the FL from completing her revenge by declaring he was against the abdication but if you read carefully, he does it because his best friend, the crown prince, begs him in order to maintain peace and power of the monarchy and it is said that ML truly cares for his country. *SPOILER END*

[collapse]
All in all, the story was like taking a scenic train ride. The FL was clever and the author and translator did well to convey her inner thoughts. It was a pretty smooth ride and I think ultimately I feel like the message was that the reality is you have to go with the flow and not everything will work out as expected and may not be satisfying at the end which helps resolves some of my feelings noted in the spoilers. Nice journey and good translation! <<less

FL lead is very straightforward and she does and tries everything to save her favourite and bounce back which she did and it’s kinda realistic how the ML took time to get over and move forward and how much he appreciate FL for coming in his life. He felt that what happened to him before was blessing in disguise.

I liked the novel, but I find the translation hard to read. It is also not well written, and it lacks descriptions, that is why I'm dropping a star. I'm not disappointed by the end and Kaelus' choice. I liked Hestia's realisation after this. I appreciate the fact that Kael's depression was not glossed over. It is a real problem that took time to heal.

Not for me. If you’re someone who is looking for smut and is into fast paced story style then this is NOT for you. Storyline seems good, translation is decent, but it is too slow for my taste. Plus reading other comments talking about anticlimactic ending I decided to drop the novel at chapter 12.

I really love the manhwa so I jumped in and read the novel. It was so wholesome. It's angsty, comedic input is fine, tickled pink you, makes you blush, and cherish their relationship. For all the r18 scenes are lost in translation. It became kinda awkward to read. Their journey of loving is adorable. It was short in the end. It's 60 chpaters afterall. The bish wasn't mentioned at all in the end too. The author highlighted mostly the journer of moving on and guidance for new love. Like highlighting... more>> the ML's moving on and MC's effort of helping him. It took a while or so long btw. She slightly highlighted the journey of the "gained" love. Which doesn't make any sense to me. The time skips so fast when they gained love and when they became real couple. BUT! It was so looong for them to be innit despite being married to each other since day 1, thats all on my perspective (of course) because that's what the author emphasized. Coz it feels like that bish and basturd was everywhere all the time. -_- I aint like readin those parts. I wish she focused too on them being a real couple. <<less

Wow, we got a valuable lesson here. Marriage was just a beginning and solely relied on love might not enough to sustain it. That's what happened to Helios and Diana. They passionately in love in the beginning and persistently got together despite many objections. Helios didn't even hesitate to hurt his best friend, Kaleus, for her. They thought they would live happily ever after but the reality after their marriage slapped them hard.

Diana was generally lovely and kind (at least in front of Helios and Kaelus) but she was a terrible crown princess. She didn't listen to any advice that was contrary to her belief and even forced others to have the same belief as her. Because of that, she received a backlash from the aristocrats who supported the kingdom.

And there's also her past conflict with Kaelus which became thorn in her relationship with Helios. In addition, Hestia came to wreck Helios and Diana's relationship in order to get revenge for Kaelus's past death.

[collapse]

What we needed to have a successful marriage might not a passionate love but a supportive partner with enough affection like Hestia and Kaleus. Initially, Kaleus didn't love Hestia but Hestia willingly stayed by his side during his fragile state and even supported his job. Love came naturally because Hestia really worth it.

Overall, I really love this story. I love Hestia's unconditional love and I also love how Kaleus didn't instantly fall on love with her during his most vurnerable time.

If I have any dissatisfaction, maybe because:

Diana's vague ending. I really want to know her life after leaving the palace but she wasn't mentioned in the side stories.

Beautifully written story! I'd love to give this story a rate of 5 stars, but I couldn't because of the ending. Diana failed to realized her mistakes and still blames Hestia about everything that has happened to her. Oh boy, reading her lines and thoughts made my blood boil. She's narcissistic and thinks that because she's a saint, and the crown princess, people will bend to her demands. She thinks her opinion is right. She's so narrow-minded. For me she doesn't deserve to be the crown princess because she can't... more>> even listen to other people 🙄. Then she proceeds on seducing Kael and plans on getting him back, cause she has this delusion that Kael still has feelings for her (thank God Kael moved on and was already in love with Hestia) She's truly a shameless woman. If only she repented a little but no.

I don't like the crown prince either, even though he realized his mistakes, his feeling for Hestia still lingers, and has some thoughts of coveting his wife's friend. Like cmon dude, u f*ck*d up big time and ruined your friendship because of a woman, then drove that said friend into death. As if that wasn't enough, he always uses his friend's loyalty to the empire to get what he wants. He made me uncomfortable seriously.

Overall, the romance between Hestia and Kael was well written. It doesn't feel forced at all. I love how the FL was a headstrong woman and was focus more on revenge for Kael lol.

Kudos to the translation team! Thank you for translating this story *bow* <<less

First of all, I really really like how each chapter in this novel is super long that it got me completely immersed on it. The novel was really well written and well translated, the plot is interesting and refreshing. My heart throbs and cries while reading it too :")

I like how the FL has unconditional love for the ML. She's the T kinda person, being realistic and thing.

FL is a very courageous person, and realistic, she's just a normal woman.

The emperor is a good ruler and a good father. (Quite rare)

Ml, I don't know, I just like him. (Although he's always cry compared to other ml, I like that about him, because it shows how he is a normal human being, he is not perfect)

... more>> Helios is a good friend in a sense that he know his fault, and there's no particular problematic characteristic about him.

Diana, there's no denying that her personality is a charm on its own for those who were suffocated with this world, but she's not flexible, too rigid. If she's flexible enough along with her original personality, she will be a good fl.

Lastly, please bear with the translation, it's quite confusing.

Also... For those searching for the smut scene... It's at the last part of the novel because it is a slow romance.. good luck.

Just my opinion. <<less

It's a revenge. She became the villainess who sacrificed everyone to save her love and what's wrong with that? I loved it completely.

Diana at the end didn't learn that the world is not only black and white. There're many shades of gray and you can make everyone to thinks and act as you do.

Kael first love was fire but with Hestia was what he need.

Helios... meh~~
