Bai Li, an Agricultural Deity from the immortal world, traveled to the Interstellar era where land is scarce and his farming soul is burning. In a world full of were-people who can turn into many different types of animals, he is a rare human who does not have an animal form.

He entered the ‘Virtual Reality Game Design Competition’ and created the farming game ‘Carefree Farmstead’, leading Interstellar people to farm and explore in the game so that they can gradually understand the charm of farming. The game would lead Interstellar People to grow and explore in the game, and let them gradually realize the charm of farming. Farming, food, infrastructure, life ….

Inadvertently, the interstellar people’s real life takes on a new twist.

It's not a literary masterpiece and it never wanted to be one.

Don't look for deep logic, don't expect intricate developments, everything happens conveniently and the world-building is tailor-made for the story to work.

But it's the warmest, happiest novel you can accidentally stumble over, which I did.

The characters are charming, detailed, have (very) different traits and voices.
There's a bit of face slapping, most of the perpetrators didn't do it with malicious intentions and actually try to make up for it when they understand that they were wrong.

MC is a wholesome god who's truly interested in pleasing his believers and making their life better, he's an incredibly nice person, forgiving, strong willed, and hard working.

ML isn't a cold CEO type of man but a normal person, he laughs, is sometimes a bit childish or shows off, he knows how to enjoy himself and cares for his friends and subordinates.

The romance isn't instant, it develops gradually over time, they start as online-friends and go from there.

A few surprises aren't missing either, they are pretty obvious and cliché so not a surprise for readers who already read this kind of trope a couple of times, but that doesn't take away from the fun.

I would say none of the characters are self-insert templates for the reader, they are their own person and you should read it with the mindset that you are reading about other people instead of projecting yourself unto any character.
In that way many of the plot-points you would normally feel are bad make a lot more sense and fit into the story seamlessly.

It's a light-hearted feelgood novel that will make you smile and enjoy your leisure time.

It's a slow paced story, but cute and sweet

The whole population can be said as cuties, there's no villains whatsoever, only cunning people just becoz they had so much fun playing and eating in a vr game. Ofc, considering their real living environment, the game is basically a heaven.

MC having a plot twist is somewhat both I expected and also unexpected. I guessed MC's background but the whole process is rarely used in the usual stories I read. The fact that MC's original character is a total 180 is very... more>> adorable. Very like his beast gene. <<less

RATING: 4/5!!! [Rereadability: 9/10] [Game Elements, Interstellar, Farming, Infrastructure]

This novel is lacking in many areas, but in the areas that it's good at, it shines~ What I mean by this is that this novel should be read with a certain expectation in order to be enjoyed thoroughly. More specifically, you have to like infrastructure and farming XD. The tone is similar to the BL novel "Sand Sculpture Demon King" the one where the MC transmigrates in a western fantasy world as a demon king with his smart phone and starts... more>> to transport modern culture to enlighten the people of that world. Only, the things transported are different. Here, the MC transports ancient Chinese culture, food culture, and farming know-how by building a game focused on agriculture.

It's surprisingly fun. You get to see the MC updating the game slowly — which is the focus of the story. As for the other things. It's not as good. The characters are mostly simple. At least, they don't go through tempering or extreme character development. They just live their life smoothly. Without any real conflicts or growth. As for romance... DX don't expect too much!! The romance here is sooooo basic that it pretty much has no reason to exist. The falling in love step is skipped directly or, at least, is not given enough development to be very realistic. It always feels like it came out of nowhere, so I didn't care much about it.

My real goal in reading this till the end is seeing the completed version of the game — which was not bad. Kinda wish there was more game-building content, even, since there were a couple of loose ends here and there. And it seems like the game has a lot of room for growth. If I rated the novel based on the game aspect alone, I would give it a 5 star rating XD. BUT, as it stands. Ignoring my usual criteria for rating (character, romance, setting, and premise). This novel fails 3/4 (yes, the setting is also kind of broken. The explanation about how the empire suffered from genetic collapse and the treatment was so flimsy that I almost spat out a mouthful of blood.) SOOOO... Yeh. 4/5 is the highest I can consciously give XD.

All I can say is... read it if you like infrastructure and farming!!!! The tone is lighthearted and the development self-indulgent. On the other hand, if you're looking for romance or character development, STAY AWAY! Come back when you're in a better mood for some leisurely farming lolol.

_____________

SUMMARY — The MC of this novel is named Bai Li. He's a "Shennong" from another time and space that ended up soul traveling to an interstellar world. His new identity is somewhat mysterious. The original owner is gone, leaving him only with instructions to live on and a bank card with 6666 star coins. As a relatively optimistic person, he makes the most of what he has to build a game. It's relatively simple at first. Just a blank empty village with an NPC to hand out tasks for clearing wasteland and building a simple hut. The purpose of the game is to introduce the leisurely farming life to the interstellar people.

He has no big goals. He just has no other way of planting at the moment. And he needs to plant in order to collect spiritual energy. In the end, the game he made becomes the best source of the energy he needs to cultivate. So he focuses his attention on the game more. Adding updates whenever he gets an idea, and, by the way, making money so that more people can play his game and give him star coins and spiritual energy.

(As for the ML, he's the great admiral of the empire. He's suffering from a genetic collapse that has reverted him back to his kitty form and was picked up by the MC to be a pet and helper. Later, after he's brought to the game by the MC, the ML gains consciousness. But he doesn't remember being a kitty. So shenanigans with identity ensue. It's all very simple. Cute, but don't expect too much!!! <<less

Ancient farming deity wakes up in the intergalactic era and creates a Stardew Valley / cozy farming video game that can heal wounded beastkin and coincidentally adopts a cute cat

aka interstellar Admiral...

I enjoyed the mature characters (at least, the main character is not an infantilized weak stereotype), great video game, warm and cozy vibes, and the excellent translation.

The game plot is cool, the coding seems suspicious but if it works, it works. The other thing that bothers me:

Spoiler

MC is embarrassed for acting so close to the ML's juvenile cat form. The sweet talk, pet names, coaxing and encouraging of someone who is actually an adult man probably hit him.

However, his pet-craving hit him, and once another juvenile is set before him, he takes it in. A baby black fox that is actually an adult man. He rubs, pets, feeds. He treats the juvenile like a pet and it's contrary to how he was portrayed previously when he discovered the ML.

This honestly disgusted me of his character. In the first place, why is he treating this poor black fox like this? MC knows that the fox will remember everything that happened to him while he was a juvenile. MC's digging a grave of embarrassment and harassment. The first time, it was an accident, he didn't know any better. However, he knows that this fox is a person and is treating him like a pet, just because the fox is cute and fluffy.

Imagine being unable to control your actions, and then some man starts treating you like an animal, rubbing and petting and feeding, whatever. And, when you finally regain true clarity, you recall all the things you've done to embarrass yourself. And the man that took you in an treated you likea pet when most in this world knows that each person has an animal form or so.

The ideal rating for me would be 2.5. The story is very interesting in the beginning, but from the middle to the end, it becomes tedious, and certain events, in my opinion, that should have been more notable as revelations, passed by smoothly with just a few sentences. Unfortunately, for me, there was a decline in my interest from the middle to the end due to these factors, to the point that it was a struggle for me to finish.

Started out really good and became boring as hell.

I did like the idea of this story and even when the story went another way I imagined, it was still some kind of interesting. The writer has a lot of great ideas and came up with surprising fun moments.

But then it started to repeat... and repeat... and repeat. The emphasis of the story is a game which MC is designing. Although to design a game is basically imagining what you want and the gamebuilder does everything else. The writer set... more>> MC up as poor and he tries to earn money by opening the game and at the same time to soothe his farming soul. He bought the cheapest gamebuilder, which limited the people that can actually enter the game. So from the start this game is super overpowered, everyone wants to play it and it's fighting for the gameslots... then they are surprised of the world and the wonders... then there is a update, more people come in and the same wonder start again... and again... and again.

This repeating became so f*cking annoying that I stped reading more than once. The Netizens comments are neither surprising nor interesting. In the later parts I stated to skip reading and realized that I could easily skip 2 chapters and miss absolutely nothing.

The story got dragged out to the limits.

Aside from the game... there is only small time in reality. While the whole stop was to make money and get a farming planet, in the end the whole real life part was rushed in the last 20 chapters.

About the love story... it's a stretch to call it romance. It's more of being friends. It's hard to get the feelings and in my opinion was crammed in. There is no difference if ML wasn't even there.

Well, would I recommend to read it? If you really love slice of life, go for it. Although it's ok to read the first 150 chapters. I think you will get the gist of it and do not need to read to the end. It's not going to get better.

I won't read it again. <<less

Zhu Moling is my favorite character. He's pretty and lucky and it's so much fun to read about his luck and arrogance haha.
Spoiler

Around ch 125 hehe a Lil bro con

[collapse]

In the beginning I didn't mind the ML. But as it went on, I could feel myself becoming more resistant to him.
Spoiler

I don't really like how he treats the fox and I wish MC didn't treat him so well, unconsciously treating him better while ML has unscrupulous thoughts. Around ch 140

[collapse]

I've read a little further in and I still feel a little weird about the ML, but I guess he's alright. Jealousy is normal, but for some reason I don't like it on this ML. I think the story would have been great as well if they were just platonic life partners.
Spoiler

Around Ch 150?

[collapse]

Okay I feel a bit better about ML now lol.
Spoiler

He's cowardly in front of the one he loves too haha. He's nervous to initiate physical contact like kissing so MC did it first. It made me feel better. Ch 195

[collapse]

Hmm I don't mind the ML anymore. He's great for a ML tbh, and he grew on me haha.
Spoiler

I like fox MC hueueue

[collapse]

These were basically the notes I took while reading this and it's not really about the plot, but I just had to get my thoughts out.

This story is good and I had a lot of fun reading it. I couldn't believe how fast I read this. I would have finished this, but I couldn't find the last 3 extras unfortunately.

Spoiler

I lost interest towards the end though. The MC's real personality is a bit boring for me. I prefer his former personality (God of farming who's earning money). Things suddenly became too easy or within reach when he became the missing fox. I can't find the energy to finish it. Their romance is also meh. I'm not a fan. Well, I think it's his fox character that made me end it in this chapter.

This novel is so funny, don't have drama so it's super nice to read.

The MC is adorable and doesn't hide his talents. But the best are the game users and Internet users.

The ending was a bit rushed but not incomplete, however the extras were awkward and short. But I enjoyed the reading time.

I don't think I have ever enjoyed reading a novel this much! °ʚ (*´꒳`*) ɞ° This is undoubtedly among my top favorite stories of all time, and even though I finished this through MTL a long time ago, I would definitely reread it in the future.

It's mostly laidback with a comedic undertone. The main plotline is straightforward, so a lot of the chapters would seem "unnecessary." I think those chapters are what make this novel "Heartwarming, " but based on the definition of "Slice of Life, " they understandably can't... more>> add it even though it's indeed mostly peaceful and non-serious.

After the war against the Zerg, the citizens found themselves in a time of peace. Unfortunately, most citizens with Therian genes were suffering from the Genetic Disorder Collapse, so they heavily promoted and encouraged making and playing games where they could vent and regulate their emotions.

All the citizens enjoy a convenient life aided by machines, so they're generally at home and in the virtual world now that they're mostly at peace. The idea of doing many activities by themselves, such as farming, cooking, mining, fishing, gathering, building, etc., was a novelty to them.

If you want a peek at how slow this story feels, here's my "Chapters In A Few Sentences." This would make the novel seem unattractive, but reading the whole thing if you like this type of novel will make it 10, 000% better. If you don't like slow novels, this is indeed a warning.

Spoiler

[01] Bai Li transmigrated into the interstellar era. He bought an E-class virtual reality game builder.

[02] Bai Li took a 'Warm Light Beast' home and named him Supreme. He discovered his infinite storage space also followed him.

[03] Bai Li created the game, [Carefree Farmstead].

[04] Bai Li and Wen Xingyao entered the game as "Li Bai" and "Demon Xing, " respectively.

[05] Bai Li and Wen Xingyao completed some quests. Wen Xingyao gave an order to Tang Ying.

[06] Tang Ying arranged for 300 soldiers to enter the game.

[07] Bai Li managed to make Mo Song try the game.

[08] The players enjoyed digging a pit.

[09] The players wanted to play for more than the time limit, so they spent money. Mo Song posted his honest review.

[10] Mo Song praised the game and bragged; the other players did the same.

[11] Wen Xingyao spent about 50 thousand star coins on the game mall, and then he and Bai Li planted their first crops. Tang Yi sorted the 300 reports filled with praises for the game.

[12] Wen Xingyao was surprised by the fragrance of the wheat.

[13] Xiong Pili met Wen Xingyao, and he compared their progress. Wen Xingyao had a hut and fields, while they had only dug pits.

[14] The players were surprised by the wheat's fragrance. Bai Li gave Wen Xingyao a portion of his grass and wood spirit Qi, which gave him a 'buff.'

[15] Players were amazed by the white bun's taste and became determined to earn money.

[16] Bai Li earned more faith value and started planting in real life.

[17] Mo Song posted his game experience and screenshots and ignored the doubtful netizens.

[18] Supreme was determined to help Bai Li's crops grow faster after he accidentally burned the first batch, so Bai Li rewarded him with his spirit Qi. Bai Li then optimized and updated the game.

[19] After completing a quest, Bai Li got strawberry seeds, and Wen Xingyao got the recipe and ingredients for corn cake.

[20] Wen Xingyao, Bai Li, and Feng Jiujiu ate the corn cake. The other players cried since they didn’t get a taste of it, so Wen Xingyao sold some.

[21] Wen Xingyao told Tang Ying to let the soldiers play whenever they wanted and to get a body checkup in half a month since the game might have a therapeutic effect on Genetic Collapse Disorder. He also found out that he wasn’t with Tang Ying.

[22] Some players went offline to learn how to cook.

[23] The vivid descriptions tempted Wen Chen to play the game. Bai Li gave some of his spirit qi to Supreme again.

[24] Bai Li met and then invited Song Xinran to join them for dinner.

[25] Chu Qinglin set up a stall to sell corncakes. Tang Ying was surprised when he learned Wen Xingyao’s in-game name.

[26] Tang Ying reported that the 300 soldiers were enjoying the game and that the military hospital concluded that the therapeutic effects of games were weakening. Wen Xingyao explored the grove in the game and took home a black wooden stump.

[27] Bai Li read the forums and updated the game and the mall. He even set it to rain the following day, and the players played in and collected the comfortable rainwater.

[28] The players dug up the wild vegetables, and some got recipes. They also discovered the Food Basket in the mall.

[29] Song Xinran gave Bai Li some gifts.

[30] Song Xinran learned about Bai Li’s game and hobby of farming. Supreme, the territorial kitty, faced many ups and downs in his heart.

[31] Due to the wooden stump, Mushrooms grew all over Wen Xingyao’s farm, and he posted about it, advising others not to bring strange things home.

[32] Mo Song, one of the mushroom pickers, guessed that ‘Li Bai’ was Bai Li, the game creator.

[33] Mo Song updated his game log: Those Days I Farmed in Carefree Farmstead. He talked about the magical rain and added a photo booklet of the food they got from the Food Baskets. Soon, the photo booklet and the game became so popular that the VR Game Design Competition officials suspected Bai Li was cheating.

[34] Jiang Yu and the other staff were surprised to see how many people were urging the game designed to upgrade their game builder.

[35] Supreme was bothered by a familiar voice telling him to return to his actual appearance but got distracted by the food. Bai Li and Supreme finally noticed that Supreme had grown a lot. Since it was the end of the month, Bai Li checked his profits, which were 2.4 million.

(At this point, Chapters 1-35 happened in a little over one month.)

[36] Bai Li paid to upgrade to the D-class game builder and then planned to significantly update the game. He also released 4495 game quotas and withheld 5 for Song Xinran and Xiong Pili’s colleagues, Mo Zhu and Ji Yingqi.

Meanwhile, Wen Xingyao was a bit worried about his real self but had a hunch that things would be better. He focused on the game and finally got to plant strawberries. Tang Ying reported the good news about the 300 soldiers’ better states and that the military department was going wild for game quotas.

[37] The players guessed that the game quotas would only be around 4500, so they posted negative reviews to discourage others from grabbing a game quota since their relatives might not get it, but the smart ones ignored them.

[38] Xiong Pili, Mo Zhu, and Ji Yingqi were surprised by the cucumber’s taste in reality.

Bai Li updated the game with many features, including Life Skills, livestock, house upgrades, a massive cooperative task, and monthly events.

[39] Jiang Huaibi chose the spot next to Bai Li and suggested that Song Xinran take the one behind Bai Li. Bai Li ignored the complaints of missing the game quota and used the 2 game quotas as prizes.

[40] When Li Bai heard that the players were arguing about whether to plan the location of the houses, he diverted their attention to the cooperative task of building a home for the Village Chief and his wife.

[41] The players were determined to obtain the naming rights, but their enthusiasm was doused by their list of materials.

[42] They cheered themselves up and got into planning the village.

[43] Wen Xingyao wondered if he had entered the game simultaneously with Bai Li since 'he' had been staying with him in real life. Since he couldn't do much, he went fishing and got determined to catch a koi.

Bai Li returned to the game, and Mo Song, squatting outside his house, said he was a game anchor and wanted to know if he could get the license to broadcast the game.

[44] Bai Li did his research. When Song Xinran learned about it, he volunteered to be a cooperative anchor.

[45] Bai Li encouraged Song Xinran to contact his family, and he did, informing them about his master, his new hobby, and his plans. Bai Li and Song Xinran also decided to set the smell and taste sync at 30% for the live broadcast.

[46] Bai Li said he planned to buy livestock, and Wen Xingyao took the opportunity to ask if he had animals in real life. Wen Xingyao thought he'd find another time to discuss his guesses with Bai Li.

[47] The viewers were pleasantly surprised by the scenery and novel experience.

[48] The viewers were surprisingly engrossed with planting.

[49] Mo Song got so lucky some viewers thought it was a setup, but Bai Li gave him the 100 Buddha Jumps Over the Wall prize in the live broadcast.

[50] Mo Song took the viewers to gather in the forest, and they were surprised by how alive and comforting it was.

[collapse]

The game in the novel was my ideal game! I am so in love with how very relaxing and exciting it is with all the features and all the players exploring them one by one as the game is continuously updated. Seeing the citizens experience doing many activities by themselves, enjoy them, and even add their twists was very fun!

The characters are likable, but that's mostly because you don't see anything else or that much about them. They're very textbook "good MC, ML, & other characters" types of novel characters. Do you get what I mean? You never get fully immersed in the story, even if you enjoy it a lot, since everything will pretty much give you the feeling that 'this only happens in fictional stories.' That's probably not a good thing for someone, but I liked having a novel I could read, then drop and quickly pick up again here and there.

The romance is quite sweet, and you will occasionally get stuffed with dog food, but the tags aren't lying with the "Slow Romance." They were genuinely good friends from the beginning, which lasted for a while before they had realizations, and I thought that was perfectly acceptable. Their relationship was pretty cute! They're the ideal relationship, you know? It just feels very unreal, so it's hardly relatable. It's not the novel's fault, of course. Real humans are... ¯\_ (ツ) _/¯

To be very honest with you, I cannot convey how much I loved reading this novel. What I hope can convince you to try is that I usually don't use MTL, especially stories with game elements, because the names will be weirdly translated. This novel is a lovely breath of fresh air amongst the others that I've read! <<less

Slow paced novel, the kind you really turn off your brain and just enjoy. Generally very warm and mild, with the characters being rather likeable and fun.

True ranking: ~ 3.8 because I found all the major plot points to be too predictable, though well executed, and it felt a little repetitive and boring towards the end. There are also a couple plot holes- but they generally aren't glaring. Had to take stars off because even with my brain off, the above points were annoying. The translation has some terminology errors... more>> that may be confusing to anyone that doesn't know Chinese, though it's otherwise well done. <<less

I would consider this a slow, leisurely walk through a garden kinda story. It just makes you feel peaceful, except when you want to giggle because of a dizzy bumblebee.

Don't look for exceptional characterization, or magnificent settings. This is just a story about healing people who have seen too much fighting with peace and plants. The Interstellar people stumble and fumble their way through the game, and surprise even the MC with their ingeniousness. Then there is a sweet, very slow romance between the MC and ml. Also lots of... more>> food and cooking. All of it just has a feeling of relaxed enjoyment.

Don't read for excitement, surprise twists or conflict. Read it with your feet up, your favorite hot beverage and a snuggly blanket for a nice quiet afternoon. <<less

So good! I finished it feeling so satisfied but wanting more extras.

True to the title, it's about our MC creating a farming game to share the joy of farming. The game came like a tsunami, quickly becoming the most popular game and boy do trust me when I say I wanted to immediately open my stardew valley/rune factory/farming game to play along whenever the game updated.

The romance was so-so, honestly I was more focused on the farming and gaming updates, but the ML loves the MC very much and they... more>> don't have any roadblocks what not, so you can fully enjoy the farming experience without interuptions.

One thing was just how unrealistic the whole making a game thing was. As someone learning how to design a game there were so many questionable moments but I can close eye since its all fantasy~ I wish I could make a game just by imagining it too~

It's a very feel good novel so you shouldn't think too deeply about some plot points. I feel myself really destressed while reading. Really enjoyed it! <<less

Super funny, glad to havel read it. Almost got caught by my family giggling, so u know that it's a good one.

The novel is a slice of life, slow but very enjoyable to read, "Turn off ur brain" and just enjoy reading. As the novel says: it has "fantasy" elements so don't bother trying to rationalize what they do and what happens and just enjoy the ride.

This story was binge-read to the end, and I'm happy to add this story with others that are just as great as it! Hope you all enjoy reading and have a great day!

Thoughts At Ch. 208: Feb 09, 2024

I don't understand why anyone would say this story gets boring halfway through? The game in this story is amazing and super interesting! I actually wish someone would make a version of the game in reality, but until we have our own game pods, I don't... more>> think it would be as fun~

Really looking forward to what happens next! Love everything about this novel, from the writing to the interesting tidbits and ideas! The Author and Translator did a really good job!

Thoughts At Ch. 22: Feb 05, 2024

This Story is really good and Interesting!

Some people may be annoyed by the fact that the interstellar is a world that has lost flavour and taste when it comes to food, but I think the author is really conscientious about where our worlds headed if we don't stop genetically modifying, using pesticides and adding chemicals to our foods. Eg. Chemical food dyes and flavours.

Organic or home grown food, is the way to go.

And they even show the benefits of it! <<less

The whole novel is about this Hologram game Farming game that MC made for the interstellar people.

The best bit is when people are fighting for quotas to be in the game.

Alot of fluffs, no villains, furrys, cubs every where. Everyone enjoy playing a great farming game.

MC and ML both loving strong and good loooking.

Did got drag out abit too long to me, but It was great read enjoyable and relaxing. Thanks Translator good job

Recommend for a relaxing read.

Well this one wasn't for me....

It started amazing, I like both main leads, the game was interesting and the side characters too.... but halfway through it became too boring for me... there were too many chapters of dialogs of netizens, there were also whole chapters of players going around in the game that had no correlation with the MC beyond being the developer of the game....

Some stories were interesting but others were boring, there was barely any story of the main leads and I started skipping ahead trying to go... more>> back to the main leads....

And it got to the point I just skipped to when the truth is known and stopped there... everything was a bit over the top... I like OP MC but this one had so many people bowing down to his greatness that it seemed like a joke... <<less

One of the best slice of life Bl out there.

Just one of my icks is that the reason for the genetic collapse disorder is too simple/ordinary. I thought there would be some plot twist or extraordinary reason for the disorder, but meh.

Anyway aside from that this is now one of my favorites ❤
