The brother next door, whom he has always adored, is the protagonist gong in the book, and he is a standard cannon fodder shou, who not only withdraws from the marriage for the protagonist gong, he also ended up with a broken home.
The original marriage partner of the little mermaid is Lu Mian, an imperial general, rumoured to be cold and bloodthirsty.
In order to survive. Song Huai decided:
1. Stay away from the protagonist gong decisively and not linger in front of the protagonist and seek death.
At the very beginning, the admiral said coldly, as if he didn’t want to see him.
The little mermaid was brave, grabbed the corner of his clothes with his little hand, raised his chin slightly, and said softly: “Do you…Do you want to touch my fishtail?”
The admiral who was bleeding from cuteness:! ! !
Before marriage.
Lu Mian: Whom you like has nothing to do with me, as long as you don’t go too far.
Song Huai: ok

I do like that everyone loves Song Huai (shou) because I also love him and he deserves the world. He's baby, y'all 🤷🏾♀️
ML's brother deserves the electric chair btw. Just scum.
he throws tantrums a lot and is the type to easily attract potential lovers (god knows why, he isn't the least bit attractive). ML is the typical cold, very beautiful and capable gong. The story is really simple, MC woke up realizing he was a cannon fodder and decided to stop chasing the protagonist and marry someone else and of course the original main characters ended up falling for him. But it's too late, now MC found someone new and lived happily ever after while the original main characters were brokenhearted because of MC.
- big age gap (which I personally like) but there seemed to be little basis for chemistry besides the classic "he's the total opposite of me which means we're attracted"
- short story so main couple moved in together quickly but didn't seem to make concrete developments in their relationship just as quickly since they were so focused on misinterpreting and miscommunicating with the other
- the mermaid thing is BARELY there, this would have been the same story without the mermaid trait
- originally I was excited by the intrigue of the radio and the mysterious voice, I thought there would be clues dropped along the way and tension building as the ML is torn between his obsession for the voice and his growing affection for the MC
- the radio is literally mentioned a handful of times in the story and it is ABSOLUTELY NOT used as a tool for character development
- feels like the original story idea was planned bigger but cut down to just 45 chapters, so early ideas like the conniving childhood friend or pining new classmate or even any other deeper engagement with the fact that MC now knows he's in a book are dropped with only tiny, superficial mentions
- I don't mind tropey stories and superficial fluff, as long as there's some action; this was short enough where it felt fast-paced so I didn't have time to really critique as I read, and I enjoyed the lighthearted tone
Why I liked this:
