The little mermaid Song Huai gets his little head smashed and realises that he’s living in a book.

The brother next door, whom he has always adored, is the protagonist gong in the book, and he is a standard cannon fodder shou, who not only withdraws from the marriage for the protagonist gong, he also ended up with a broken home.

The original marriage partner of the little mermaid is Lu Mian, an imperial general, rumoured to be cold and bloodthirsty.

In order to survive. Song Huai decided:

1. Stay away from the protagonist gong decisively and not linger in front of the protagonist and seek death.

At the very beginning, the admiral said coldly, as if he didn’t want to see him.

The little mermaid was brave, grabbed the corner of his clothes with his little hand, raised his chin slightly, and said softly: “Do you…Do you want to touch my fishtail?”

The admiral who was bleeding from cuteness:! ! !

Before marriage.

Lu Mian: Whom you like has nothing to do with me, as long as you don’t go too far.

Song Huai: ok

Lu Mian : We just have a simple marriage contract, we need to leave room for each other.

Song Huai: ok

After getting married,

Lu Mian : How can Dudu look at others, He still likes that dog thing!

Lu Mian: What is Dudu thinking? He hasn’t spoken to me for three hours.

Lu Mian: Why doesn’t Dudu come here for a touch?

Song Huai: …

I think I lost what few braincells I had left after reading this. The MC is super childish and acts childish. The ML gave off creepy vibes with how the author likes to make the MC very immature and somehow his cuteness appealing to MC. The plot and faceslapping was so cliche that I felt like I was on w*ttpad fanfic or something.

This was genuinely not a well written story. Would not recommend.

let me just say this. If you come for a sweet short story with the typical strong and cold ML and the weak and adored MC, then this is perfect for you. I came exactly for that ands I was not disappointed. There are some elements in the story that can be made better or longer I still enjoy the story a lot. This deserved 4 star but I give it a 5 bcs of the low ratings

Exactly what you expect it to be. Cute little crybaby mermaid shou with a outwardly cold/ inwardly passionate gong.
Spoiler

I do like that everyone loves Song Huai (shou) because I also love him and he deserves the world. He's baby, y'all 🤷🏾‍♀️

Spoiler

ML's brother deserves the electric chair btw. Just scum.

Let me preface that I don't think that there is any major qualitative issue concerning the plot. I'm saying this as I was well aware that this novel was going to be a no-brain, happy-go-lucky, marshmallow and rainbow farts kinda novel when I picked this novel up to read. And my expectations were met fully.

My low star rating is mostly due to the MC not being my cup of tea. The MC is a spoilt, self-centered child who only has flowers in his head and will feel wronged/throws a tantrum... more>> when people don't meet his unvoiced expectations. One second he looks at you expectantly and the next second he will look aggrieved and cry when you don't do whatever he wants you to do while you are left wondering what the actual f*** is going on. The MC is also pretty high maintenance where he writes a lot of texts and expects you to answer right away or else he will feel wronged and makes up unrealistic scenarios in his head.

Let me say, if I met someone like him in RL, I would not even touch him with a ten-foot-pole. I wouldn't wanna stand there being accused of bullying him while he cries a river because of nothing. Dude is a major drama queen, a white lotus and the kind of person who will be the antagonist in those book transmigration novels where a side character overthrows the willful and entitled white lotus og. MC who needs everyone to cater to them.

The other characters in this novel seem okay, more or less, even the antagonists, compared to the MC. He just rubs me the wrong way.

Other complaints of mine include many 2D characters (might just be a problem of them not having enough screentime so they don't get the chance to show any other personality traits as the plot revolves around the main leads) and the rushed/abrupt ending.

To summarize, the novel was readable, but the MC was annoying af. <<less

the MC is really, really, really childish.
Spoiler

he throws tantrums a lot and is the type to easily attract potential lovers (god knows why, he isn't the least bit attractive). ML is the typical cold, very beautiful and capable gong. The story is really simple, MC woke up realizing he was a cannon fodder and decided to stop chasing the protagonist and marry someone else and of course the original main characters ended up falling for him. But it's too late, now MC found someone new and lived happily ever after while the original main characters were brokenhearted because of MC.

The MC is cute and silly. Often, being childish and getting jealous or upset over little thing. But the author makes it work well rather than annoying.

Spoiler

The MC’s past about bully the original protagonist of the story is pretty much him stealing erasers.

It is nice to see the MC directly owning up to his mistakes and apologizing for the bullying and making amends, such as giving an eraser and asking to be punched.

Very quickly they become friends though it does turn a bit rough at the end cause the original protagonist fell in love with the MC. But got his heart broken knowing the MC is already in love with the ML of the story.

[collapse]

The ML of the story is gentle and patient. But easily gets jealous like the MC.

Spoiler

The major issue with this story is that it ended too quickly try to cover up the holes in it but not exactly succeeding.

Like it never talks about recovery for the ML.
The MC never explains in detail the reason he does not sing anymore. Nor does he ever sing even once for the ML. And the MC’s music box never gets brought up again after being dropping off to be repaired.

Other questions at the end:
What happened to the original protagonists of the story? Cause there are two of them and both of them got heart broken by the MC and mysteriously disappeared at the end it seemed or I am missed something.

Why the MC never told his loyal best friend that is always protecting him anything? Like his best friend is not mad that the MC got engaged and married without a single word. Even though the MC was told not to tell anyone cause of the ML’s status. He could at least have told his best friend in private. Especially, when his best friend cared and did so much for him.

[collapse]

Overall, it was a simple and cute story. No real drama or face slapping. It is a short story that had a lot of potential but ended too soon. The author clearly built up a good foundation that could have carried this story out longer but they cut it short instead. So read it like bubbles in a bath, light and relaxing with a hint of entertaining a childish heart. <<less

In my experience I've never met a male teenager like MC... I think he was raised to think that everyone must cater to him, even people who doesn't like him. He was practically what I imagined of a novel version of any coquettish bottoms with princess disease.

Well, btw what I've read of characters with princess disease at least has the capitals and talents to have one while MC's only capital was being cute. He even has the audacity to still act cute when he knew that ML's mentor was dead,... more>> he was only concerned with being spoiled by ML.

But author wrote his cuteness as overdone. It's annoying. Cute MCs are fine, but brainless cutie with raging princess disease isn't. ML didn't understand his pouting lips and hinting eyes? He'd cry sadder than your usual 8 o'clock dramatic white lotus. ML didn't immediately reply his message that he deliberately texted slower? He'd carry a grudge till tomorrow.

I'm very thankful that I've never had the misfortune of meeting someone like MC. <<less

I just have to say that this really soothe an itch that I had! It was the right book at the right time and the story really matches the summary that was given which was one of the main reasons why I really enjoyed it!

If you have problems with age gap (like a 17 yo with a 32 yo) and a very childlike protagonists please move on. The MC’s mentality is like a literal child it’s ADORABLE! Some people may find it pedo-ish which may reflect in the reviews and... more>> rating but trust me this novel is goooodddd! The MC’s childish antics is the highlight of the entire novel!

When I first read it, I was like “Omg what is this silly sweet doing here?!” Pure comedy! Tons of hilarious moments there!

There’s literally no plot to the novel just a one man show doing his thang (which includes and is not limited to crying (all the time), squealing like a groundhog, rolling on the floor when he is unhappy, rubbing his head around the ML’s face, arms, neck body etc like a little kitten, turning red at the smallest things and so on) and the cold indifferent ML slowly falling in love with the adorable mess of a MC. The antagonist sucks and plays little to no role in the story and overall, it’s just a fluff book with a really really really adorable MC.

That’s all. If you like cute, silly, childish and naive (but reads little yellow books) protagonist, this is definitely for you! <<less

It seems like the plot will be filled with self created misunderstanding and the brain dead MC own imaginations.

The MC possessed every single trait a spoiled temperamented child should possesses. He's childish and could be said to be naive but he's not good hearted if u look at what he's done.

I dropped this at ch 16. It may or may not have a better progress the further u go but I won't know. If u like this kind of MC and a capable injured emotionally stunted ML it might be... more>> a good read for u. <<less

Quite good. Cute, Sweet, and greasy. Full of doting. It's short and end up abrupt. It's ok to pass the time. The MC looks s*upid cutie and childish. He is a rare naive merman meet. So it's about how the MC avoid protagonist and marry his uncle (ML) instead.

It's probably the author's first novel or first time attempting to write a novel. It feels like a teenager wrote it. Story uses all the usual tropes and despite being a short story still manages to be all over the place. Based on the description I was expecting the majority of the story to take place after they get married but no, its prior to marriage they're pretty much into each other. MC is a face con and likes handsome faces so he falls for ML pretty easily. ML... I... more>> don't know why he even likes MC to be honest, but he's super into MC from first meeting and easily jealous.

MC is a mermaid. Not a spoiler since it's in the description. There's not much discussed about being a mermaid beyond that. And he's special became everyone else is human. In the beginning chapters he needs to soak in a bathtub to release his fishtail out but after he meets ML I feel like the author kind of forgot this point.

MC is also the uke-est uke that ever uke'd. He's pretty much a girl. A very little girl. His room is decorated pink, he looks like a cute porcelain doll, dresses up in cute bunny slippers and bunny pajamas and has big stuffed animals that he hugs to sleep and also acts like a child and even his family and friends treat him like a little kid. It's creepy when they repeated mention ML is 32, never had interest in a relationship before but is suddenly very interested after he meets MC and... MC acts like this. Hmm. I guess we know what ML is into.

Overall, story is not my cup of tea. <<less

Done reading, MTLed the rest.

I think reading a novel with childish MC once in a while is not bad. I kinda like the dynamics between the couple: cute, childish, pampered, spoiled shou with a cold (but only affectionate towards his shou), handsome, strong, military admiral gong. It's the dynamic that makes me feel "aww" while reading this. This is pure, sweet, almost kind of brainless fluff. But I HAVE to take one star bcs of some disappointments...

Spoiler

This is a pretty short novel. There are so many potentials of this to be stretched into 60ish or 80ish chapter?? I'd like to know more on how ML is dealing with his trauma, the radio secret thing, and I was kinda hoping ML will find out that MC is the person who helped him to go through his trauma... the author inDEED revealed this secret, but it was so short and kinda not meaningful... Kinda disappointed, honestly. Feels like ML's trauma was just brushed away. I also want to know a little bit more about his mermaid secret!!! And more of MC swimming in large pool!! And possibly Mpreg??? Aww where are the babies???? Also the thing with protagonist shou a.k.a Li Ziqing is quite interesting. Like he is a prince yet why is he studying in a commoner school??? Well probably the author only wanted to focus on our main couple...

[collapse]

Those disappointments aside, I kinda enjoyed this. I finished reading in one day. Not too much drama & misunderstanding, even if there is one, MC & ML didn't handle it in a frustrating way. I also wanted to point out that even though MC is childish...

Spoiler

He can also stand up for himself & decisively reject his previous crush. He just didn't want to have much entanglement with his previous crush. Quite nice, right?

[collapse]

The so called villain was also not treated very badly, like he knew his place (with a little bit of denial) but that's it. He's gone & won't bother MC anymore. Overall, if you want a cute short danmei with less stress & drama, go give this a try. <<less

The MC was very childish and naive (sort of)

The ML was your typical Ice block ML radiating dangerous aura 24/7 and only soft for the MC.

Of course there were good bits, I especially love how the Song family Is so supportive and united! They're not scheming which is quite rare in these novels.

The ending was a bit rushed as reading up till 40 something the pair still wasn't married. They didn't go in detail for some parts which was good because it would obviously drag on but some parts... more>> needed more than a few paragraphs to be explained.

Each character was written nicely and not as 2d, there's no main villain in the novel.
A bit of slice of life with a few ups and downs is a really nice novel.

it's the type where you read it for fun and if you've got spared time so there were no angst (I could be wrong) and the fluff was rather a good amount.

no overly imitate moments (I think) and the novel don't make you wish you had a boyfriend and wasn't a single dog.

I would recommend to those who need to read a novel to relax themselves. <<less

Probably shouldn't technically be writing a review or at least I wouldn't call it a review simply because I only made it about 3/4 of the way into the "6th" translated chapter.

This type of MC is the type I hate the most. Very childish for their age with no logical reason.

The MC is 17 about to turn 18 yet for some reason cries, flops on the floor like a fish, and rolls around the carpet at a PUBLIC EVENT in a tantrum because he wants a hug. Yes... a... more>> HUG. If that doesn't scream toddler behavior I don't know what else does lol. What 17 year old do you know acts like this? Even if they are supposedly drunk. It's really cliched. It uses alot of elements that have been done before. The cold, aloof interstellar admiral ML that was injured during the war who goes into maniac urges that only the MC can soothe with his magical presence/singing. And oh, MC is also a rare mermaid.

The MC is childish, he's is 17 going on 18 in afew months, while the ML is in his early 30s, age difference aside, the MC acts so much like a child that thier relationship feels alot off.

The plot and thier feelings progresses... more>> only by relying on one misunderstanding after another. <<less

All the misunderstandings are so s*upid. Like, if only all the characters in the story bother to use their braincell a little bit and go to ask the person who involved in the situation directly instead of blindly belive one-side of the story or jump to make an assumption without themselves, 99% of the misunderstandings would not happen. But then again, if there's no these misunderstanding the story would end in 5 chapter at most, so we should be considerate to the writer too, I guess? Well, the pro is... more>> there's only 47 chapters and MC actually quite funny in a good way from time to time so the story is still bearable to read to the end. I really love this with all the fluff and the dog food being fed. I love the romance and the relationship. But there are still many plot holes. I feel like its too short. This novel has the potential. Really.......

But I dont get why is the MC being a 17 year old boy acting like a 7 year old. 😂 And everyone around him are babying him too much. AND WHY IS THE MC WHEN TALKING ALWAYS REFER TO HIMSELF IN THIRD PERSON IN A SENTENCE, IM SORRY IT WAS... more>> TOO WEIRD FOR ME, like when he was talking to the ML and his family he be like 'DUDU IS HURT DUDU THIS DUDU THAT' like bruh are you for real, you are a 17 year old young man😂😂 ughhh the cringe the second hand embarrassment.

In the first chapter I literally thought that the parents and ogML were coaxing a child. I thought that he transmigrated back into when he was a child. And In the last chapter some comments literally said that they find his actions annoying when he broke the radio. And hoping that they would see his character growth. And I totally agree how does an 18 year old with a husband act like that. MC needs to keep his emotions in check. He has the personality of a small little girl throwing tantrum.

But nonetheless I still find this enjoyable and interesting. Do give it a try. Read it yourself. And plus its only 40+ chapters, Im sure you wont be wasting your time. <<less

What I liked: it's a light read, I could just turn my brain off to read it; fluffy moments; the satisfation of seeing a scumbag regretting after losing the guy who cared about him.

What I disliked: the plot is sooo bad, is ridiculous how shallow it is, there's almost no development, the story just starts and ends randomly; the translation seems like MTL, I don't know, I 'm grateful for whoever translated it, but it's kinda hard to read; the MC is an underage (17) childish high school student and... more>> the ML a whole ass adult (32) with experience in war like... man, that is questionable.

To sum up, I feel like I lost some brain cells while reading this, but it was ok enough for me to read until the end. <<less

ML 32*, MC 17. The plot follows them for less than a year, ending at the MC's 18th birthday. Don't ask why they were able to get a marriage certificate at 17. The relevant laws are not mentioned, but it is the interstellar autocracy and the emperor is the ML's backer. The story stuck hard to a silly-sweet route to the happy end.

It's short and not a bad read despite obvious deficiencies. The story is very naive both in its chosen protagonist and its idealism. Oddly, there are multiple... more>> references to their ages only being a decade apart. ML might have been de-aged* to 28 or so after his first introduction. We never find out the truth of the ML's injury. We never even get to see if the MC singing in person could save him. Not resolving this issue leaves so much room for tragedy.

This story could have gone dark with the villains. Perhaps that is why the author left out the gritty details.
Spoiler

The small amount we know of the original timeline show how an annoyingly clingy child was ostracized, targeted, and turned into a human experiment. This information did nothing to mature the MC. It simply caused a deep instinctive disgust for the guy he used to cling to.

The potential for character development here is in the distinct gaps the author never fully explains. The og!MC is apparently a top who didn't have a good initial impression of the og!ml. He was in fact not nearly as annoyed at the cannon fodder as presented. Most of the other characters disgust for the MC were led astray by the attitude of the og!ML toward him. The admiral is not really mentioned. It can be easily guessed that he broke down without the MC's support. His family lashing out so strongly against old friends doesn't make much sense, so there could be more backstory here.
The ML finds out his connection with the MC as his lifesaver (gets news morning after the birthday/estrus in new timeline) only after the estrus incident (trying to climb into og!ML's bed in old timeline), unless that rotten peach blossom adjutant found a way to suppress this news. Regardless, the family doesn't know the MC can improve the ML's illness, so they can't really lay blame on him for asking to switch the marriage candidate to the childhood friend of the same family? Being angry he made an attempt on the nephew who has been leading him on for decades doesn't really justify destroying the MC's fam. We know that this let the og!ML snag MC as a research material, so perhaps he instigated some things after realizing the MC might not be a normal human. For example, taking advantage of the rumor that the ML's injury was caused by a mermaid in order to persecute the mermaids next door.

My theory is actually that he was stimulated to realize that his lover and his uncle started to pay attention to his little follower and he panicked. "No one else can have what he doesn't want" fits his personality considering the way he panicked in the new timeline when he realized MC stopped paying attention to him. He obviously doesn't like the MC very much even if he showed strong interest in the changed MC. It was more that he couldn't handle losing the MC's affection even if he didn't want it. It was his to look down on and throw away. Bro seems to feel far inferior to his uncle and tbh stepping on the MC is what gave him capital to be so proud. The confidence and face he had thanks to the MC paid a large part in his popularity, shown by the sharp drop once people realized the MC's change. He is so twisted. The MC's identity is a huge hidden danger. Luckily, the MC's ability to conceive apparently will not make him stand out very much in this era considering no characters thought to drop the marriage contract for this reason.

Bro kept hinting at MPreg but we didn't even get to that lol. It's a story that spans like maybe 3 months I think lol so it's like paced so weirdly with the number of chapters it has. It's a short story that's kind of stretched out. Starts with MC and ML meeting each other (MC is 17 turning 18 in a couple of months) and ends with them confirming their relationship in public right after MC's 18th birthday and consummation of their marriage.
