A back-to-basics(?) monster evolution novel.

A new VRMMORPG, “World of Yggdrasia”, was recruiting beta testers from all over the world. Ten thousand testers began their journey of swords and sorcery in a new realm, one that was as large as Earth.

At the same time, a clandestine experiment was underway. Unbeknownst to the world at large, 100 secret alpha testers were given bodies of monsters and summoned to the same land.

The girl of white was one such tester. Despite the odds against her, she continued to evolve again and again. To rebel against the real world’s invasion, she would become a most terrible beast, the destroyer of worlds… the Bunny Girl!

“…wait, what? Me?”

Our protagonist would survive, unyielding, knowing no despair.

To start off I need to shout out to the translators who did a wonderful job translating this entire series from beginning til the end into an enjoyable read, in a timely fashion. They did an excellent job that other translators could learn from.

That out of the way, now to talk about the story itself. This series has a well defined, unique world that manages to avoid most of the cliches you usually see in vrmmo/isekai/fantasy stories these days (which after reading as many novels here as I have, I... more>> can safely consider all of those to be a single genre, if not a single story told with a hundred different minor variations). While this series might seem like a weird mashup of stories like SAO and Kumo Desu Ga at first, combining the setting of a VRMMO with an inhuman character that gradually evolves as it continues to fight for survival, it doesn't take long to stand on it's own merit with a twist that I honestly wasn't expecting.

There are only a few recurring characters, something that can be attributed to the long opening in which the MC is unable to interact with others, however as the story progresses there ARE a handful of characters that will be relevant until the end who are actual, well, characters. Not just some two dimensional walking cliches or foils meant to show how awesome the MC is.

The story itself has an enjoyable build up and even manages to throw in a twist or two here and there, all leading to a quite satisfying ending. (Even if you will likely be able to predict the end twenty chapters before you reach it) All that said, in the end this is a story about a lonely girl who was never wanted by anyone finding a place that she belongs, even if she has to throw away her humanity to do so. It's not a masterpiece, there are certainly flaws and inconsistencies that could be ironed out or improved upon, but you certainly wont be wasting your time reading this. What a ride what a journey. A unique plot which is similar to the other novel demon girl but the way it handles its plot is unique to each other

While demon girl novel shows how the protagonist starts an innocent human become whimsical brutal but reasonable demon, this novel shows how a demon-like protagonist (bears a grudge to the world after all) becomes a compassionate being with power

This series in its current state can be summed up in three words: hammy, but fun. The 'bad guy' organization in this story is almost comically evil in the way it acts, but at the same time the story takes itself rather seriously. Even so, it is very fun to read - the rpg elements don't bog down the story, the progression is interesting, and the main character herself is fun to read about.

Overall, this is an enjoyable read if you're not looking for a deep, intricate plot. The plot... more>> is interesting no doubt, but it is, as I said before, hammy as hell. Other than that, the translator's work has been consistently high-quality and released rather frequently. If you enjoyed the author's other story, you will probably enjoy this one as well. <<less
