Liu Zhenqing was a notorious powerful official in the history of the Zhou Dynasty.

The plot is really good, I love the mystery, I love how everything is not black and white. It's politics after all.

One thing that bothers me is how the characters are very nosy about people's relationship. He's talking alone with a girl? There must be something between them! He saved his life? He must be falling in love with him! Omg he likes this person? Let's test him and make him jealous! Like, shut up... Why are these people making conclusion about other people's feelings and relationships. It's soooo annoying... more>> I stopped reading to give a review. I'll continue reading it again after I feel like it.

Also I really don't like the side couple... R*pe should be treated like r*pe. No excuses. <<less

I really love the plot of the story. It has the right amount of romance, comedy, and angst that I always look for in a story. I won't mention the plot anymore because other reviews already pointed it out. I just want to mention that aside from making me feel happy from the romance and making me laugh from the humor of the characters, this story was really able to make me cry. MC and ML really suffered a lot. I feel sorry for the other characters too.

There’s only been 18 ch translated so far so I can’t speak beyond that.

First off the translations good 👍

it’s got the classic danmei dynamic of stern clearly-pining-for-a-dead-guy ML x mouthy back-from-the-dead chaos gremlin MC.

... more>> it’ll probably also be similar to mdzs in that MC seems to have already wildly lowballed how close he and ML actually were originally as well as some other amusing similarities, though it doesn’t actually feel terribly derivative outside of some broad dynamic tropes.

nothings fully caught on yet but there’s some hints of potential civil strife plot hooks that could go somewhere as well as some fun verbal sparring with cannon fodder so far.

I am definitely the review you're looking for, PLEASE READ ME BEFORE YOU DECIDE TO SKIP THIS NOVEL BASED ON THE OVERALL RATINGS ON NU (it does not do this novel justice at all).

I'm utterly disappointed with how low this novel is placed on the ratings! I rarely write reviews, but definitely this novel is probably one of the better ones I've read. I rated it 5 stars to bump the rating up because I think it should be around a 4 at the very least, and a... more>> 4.5 at most (for now).

Among all things, I must first mention: a few people complained about MC's personality and how he talks a lot but do not let that fool you; he is actually pretty clever and a very shameless protagonist who teases a LOT, which is one of the reasons I really like him. He's also smart in his own way, and very selfless (especially in the previous life toward the country, which they don't appreciate him at all), and I love his attitude towards the ML as the novel progresses when noticing ML's feelings.

  • ^ I also want to debunk one of the reviews saying that the author made it seem like the MC was a god; FIRST OF ALL, we have to take into account that the MC transmigrated and has more modern knowledge. It is also understandable why they saw the MC in a different light because the body he's occupying right now's original owner isn't knowledgeable in these aspects and had a rather obnoxious attitude (in their POV, they didn't like the original owner for reasons you'll read in the beginning). So it's not like he's a god, but more like they wouldn't expect a young master (the original body) to know about war methods, it was OOC.
  • SECOND OF ALL, they're absolutely hating on the MC without even giving him a CHANCE! As you read you will see that the MC is actually very knowledgable in his previous life, under a LOT of pressure to carry for so many people and to uphold power in the court. I will NOT settle to have someone badmouth him without even understanding him.
  • THIRD OF ALL, him being 'embarrassing' is simply his teasing, playful personality. It's just one side of him that was shown in the beginning and HE IS NOT PERFECT. DO NOT EXPECT HIM TO BE THE BEST, he only does what he can to the best of his abilities and only a select few have understood or stood up for him. If you do not even try to understand the character, then don't hate on them when you don't know ANYTHING
The ML is also a walking vinegar jar, and very precious. I absolutely love him and want the best for him. His affection for the MC is quite pitiful but also a symbol of devotion that surpasses appearance. The development of feelings for the MC toward the ML is very cute as well, I love the comedic undertone and flirting that the MC has towards the ML and how their relationship develops over time; the pacing is REALLY good and you can see the development for them progress, unlike other novels where the romance seems very awkwardly forced out by the author.

Another thing I want to note is, the mystery component of this novel is pretty strong; I find myself trying to find the truth from the past even more as the story goes on. The author feeds information very slowly but it proceeds to build up as the story goes on, so MAKE SURE TO PAY ATTENTION TO THE THINGS POINTED OUT!!

Some IMPORTANT things to keep in mind:

      There is dub-con for a side couple; I don't want to tag it under r*pe because it's a bit unclear about the receiving side, but be warned that it is the reason the "romance" starts for the side couple (at least, I think they're a side couple) in a way

    • MISUNDERSTANDINGS ARE HUGE IN THIS NOVEL! There are a LOT of misunderstandings by the general public (the empire in general) towards the MC regarding his previous life and the things he did, and there are lots of misunderstandings between the MC and ML in the beginning.
    • ^ However, don't let that dissuade you from continuing, it's worth it! The misunderstandings actually add to the mystery-solving involving the problems in MC's previous life and present life.

      For me personally, I thought the misunderstandings by the general public toward the MC's achievements in the previous life only adds flavor to the face-slapping when there's a realization that what they know may not be true.

    • ^ The misunderstandings between the MC and ML are not very impactful toward their relationship in seriously negative way, and in my opinion it makes it sweeter and amusing. (It is not those typical misunderstandings between couples, both MC and ML have their reasons for the misunderstandings and you'll understand it once you read it.)
You would definitely enjoy this novel if you like:

    • Mystery-solving (involving the past and present life of the MC and his relationships)
    • Comedic undertones (between the MC and ML's relationship, and everyone else he's interacted with)
    • 3D, fleshed out characters (you get attached to a few side characters, because they are simply WAY TOO GOOD!!)
    • Misunderstandings that aren't overboard/serious enough to cause detrimental harm between the MC and ML (because they understand each other pretty well besides outspoken things, AHEM, confessions and feelings of love)
    • An ML who kind of stinks of vinegar and an MC who teases shamelessly
    • VERY UNDERSTANDING MC AND ML TOWARD ONE ANOTHER! They know each other's little habits:

      ML has always loved MC since he was a child and knows all of MC's little habits, noticing the MC's change in mood and everything; and with MC later when knowing ML loves him, understands that he's probably always been the only one on ML's mind and knows how faithful ML is so he (MC) isn't ever a walking vinegar jar (unlike a certain someone bc his shou is very shameless)

I honestly don't understand why the job has such a low rating. Both characters are very thoughtful, rational. In the past, they had a lot of misunderstandings, on the basis of which their relationship develops, they unravel this tangle of misunderstandings. The development of the relationship is very slow. There are a lot of interesting details about the characters and their lives, which makes the book multifaceted. I really fell in love with this book. She's worth it.

Okay, I stopped at ch 11 so my review may not be that accurate, but... The MC really talks. Like a lot. It'd be fine if it was actually smart dialogue, but it's mostly the author telling us it is, while in actuality, he just sounds like he doesn't know when to speak and when to keep shut.

That's all fine however, what really pisses me off is just how dumb he is. Yet they still try to portray him as smart. For instance, when

Not to mention the ML. The standard, "cold with a paralyzed face" ML that I hate. The author will use 300 words to describe his beauty but I still don't know what color his hair is. Might be on me though cause I skip over all the glazing they do for this man. And trust me, it's a LOT. Still, if I wanted a cardboard cutout I'd just order one online. Is it really so hard to give our male leads some PERSONALITY?

But the last straw for me was when, up to that point, the author had made it seem like he was embarrassed about his identity as an obsessed gay man and was interested in marrying a woman. I get he had a new identity, but what did he think he was going to gain by proclaiming his love for the general, in public? At least until he travels out, he's still "Lin Xiaohu". Amnesia would've been the perfect chance to wipe that clean and apologise for his untoward behaviour, but in order to "embarrass" Rong, he just started yapping in the street. I still don't know how idle the people in the capital are, to stand and watch people argue

It was an okay read. Until the author decided to drug one side character to brutally r*pe another (both pretty important so far.) Suffice to say, it was unnecessary and I assume they're supposed to be the side pairing later on, so ye, not a great look. I don't care enough to continue reading to find out if the author resolves it in a normal-ish manner, just the fact that they decided to write that scene is enough for me to drop it (it happened around chapter 59-60.)

Estoy verdaderamente feliz de haber leído una historia como esta. Me encanta como me sumergí en la lectura sin parar hasta darme cuenta que había llegado al final.

El protagonista es alguien que transmigró de los tiempos modernos al pasado. Al principio, no sentía mucho apego a su nueva vida hasta que salvó la vida de ML. Fue en ese momento cuando empezó a sentir esta nueva vida como propia, dándose cuenta de que su intervención hizo que una vida continuara en el mundo. MC tiene una personalidad coqueta, divertida y juguetona. Le gusta salir, divertirse y causar problemas junto con sus dos amigos más leales. Sin embargo, también es alguien que no soporta las injusticias y no teme alzar la voz para ayudar a los demás.

Lamentablemente, su vida no fue fácil y se vio obligado a ser el villano de una historia mal contada por el bienestar de las personas que amaba, incluso sufriendo pérdidas y traiciones. Cuando leí lo poco que nos contaron, realmente no pude culparlo por querer dejarlo todo atrás e irse. Sin embargo, esta vez finalmente pudo obtener la felicidad que tanto anhelaba: una familia, amigos tanto nuevos como viejos, y una persona a quien amar por siempre y con quien desea estar hasta el final de sus días.

Por otro lado, ML es una persona más seria. Su hermano mayor murió en batalla y todos culparon a la persona que más amaba, MC. Luego se entera de la muerte de MC un año después de la suya, donde se culpa a sí mismo por no protegerlo, ya que originalmente solo quería entrenar para ser el guardaespaldas de MC y cuidarlo todo el tiempo. Luego se encerró en sí mismo, sin importarle si vivía o moría, hasta que descubrió que MC había regresado. Sin embargo, debido a un malentendido, no se atrevió a confesarse, contento con estar a su lado.

Fue muy divertido verlos pasar por el camino antes de finalmente estar juntos. Además de la nostalgia de descubrir todas las pequeñas cosas que ML guardaba porque le recordaban a MC o las cosas que hacía por él. Realmente no creo que sea correcto describir a ML solo como alguien frío y estático; también es tímido, inseguro y muy dulce. Aunque en los extras se le mostró más atrevido y arriesgado.

Sin duda, después de un tiempo sin leer novelas, esta historia fue un excelente comienzo. <<less

This is my personal rating.

Main cp: 4/5 - Very sweet, but because of my personal preference for slightly more toxic domineering gongs, I didn't find main CP as interesting throughout the story as well as the MC having to make the first moves all the time. However, near the end with reveal, the ML's odd rejecting behaviour became reasonable so I believe they deserve a good rating.

Side cp: 4.5/5 - Way more interesting than the MC couples for me, although one may have a bad start of dubious consent due... more>> to being drugged, you can tell that they've already liked each other.

Plot: 5/5 - The story itself is pretty solid with reasonable driving forces that led the story development. The end was also a satisfying HE with a lot of sweet moments throughout and even more in the extras although I have not yet read after finishing the main story.

Overall it is a good read, although there are areas for improvement.

The MC is way too glorified by the author despite his shortcomings in the situatio. It wasn't that unbearable for me to read, but I can see why a lot were turned off by how s*upid some of the MC's actions at the start yet were still played off as cool.

Since the novel isn't fully translated yet, I ended up using chat gpt to translate the raws to read, which may not be fully accurate so I may have missed a few pounts, however, I still don't understand where the random dude who gave the ML's the mystery box come from as well as where the emperor had gotten the news of who the MC is. Hopefully, this is shown in the extras that I haven't yet read, if not, this would be a major plot hole.

Although, despite several things were unsatisfactory to me, I truly did enjoy the plot of the story and it unfolded.

While I have a odd tastes in toxic relationship story, I still can't help it but applaud the ML of the story for truly deserving of the MC'S love. Out of all those who are in love with the MC, only the ML stood by the MC's and truly love him unconditionally never one hurting the MC but actually strived to be someone who's a good person to the MC while others are selfish and resentful, never truly once understood and cared about the MC's feelings and reasoning, especially the bastard emperor. However, I would also like to add in an honourable mention, one of the empress dowager Yao Hua who had been gathering evidence to clean the MC's reputation in the dark. However, since she already has someone who truly loves her, the ML was just perfect for the MC.

He talks a lot. I mean the MC is very eloquent and that's how he get in and out of trouble, but it got to be too much. I gave up in ch 19 because it was paragraph after paragraph of dialogue. MC is a talker and I'm not a bug fan of that style of writing. The plot does sound interesting so I might trying picking this up again when it's fully translated.

Also every time he talked about ML, the dude just pops up from the background lol. That... more>> part is funny. <<less
