Yet another necro novel. (Seoul station necromancer, emperor of solo play).
I would describe this as the most chinese korean novel I've read (power up fashion/slaughter/supremacy/etc.) If you like the typical wuxia power up condensed from 2000+ chapters into something like 200, it should be your go-to novel.

Spoiler

MC trains a several trees (poison/skeleton), but skill usage is separate. Has an alter ego hero identity setup for different skill tree which uses to exploit the bad guys, whatever. That's about it, the only bland difference from regular novel

Hold up. Don't you fukin' dare say it! I get it. I only read 15 chaps and that I'm judging this too early blah blah blah. No it's enough for me.

The translation is very messy, it lacks edit as many paragraphs repeats, some dialogue doesn't have quotation marks. If that's all sure i'll take it... but then the story isn't particularly interesting (not bad but bland) — the pacing is a mess (jumping from scene to scene, so much skips) — no background depictions at all— the main character... more>> is boring (he's not bad, just plain boring) — and side characters are basically characters that job is to exist all they have is their names you don't know what they look like, what their personality. Ugh f*ck whatever who cares, my point is this is very average story, I might be able to read this through if I'm a novice reader but i've read so much story similar to this that everything is so stale. Wish I could seal my memories.

I was just reading this 10 minutes ago before writing this review and while writing this review I swear I already forgot the names of the characters along with the MC.

PS: I didn't see any comedy nor any humorous scene in this story. Is that genre even real? lol. <<less

Plot wise it's like a straight line.

MC kills one, then faces another little stronger, kills him and moved to next stronger one. But given that it's level system understable.

The one thing bugs me tho as MC was like God of necromancer's apostle (?) I guess, but we were never given BG on those gods that people select on becoming hunter tbh. It's just like yeah we choose Outta these three. But like why tho.

Was a bit annoying for me towards end cause I was already knowing ah right he gonna... more>> k word him for sure and move to next important person. Like a list Killing tbh.

All in all, a good read with level up system. <<less

I really like anti-hero character😆 no matter how mediocre it is, as long as I enjoyed it, then thats it❤️

For me, who likes cool character, a smart, cunning and cruel one, strong too, didn't care about beauties. Even if they had plot armor, everything is good.

Anyways, all in all, this one of my favorites❤️

It was around a 4 for me but I rated it up because imo, it shouldn't have an average of 3 rating.

Sure, there were issues with characterization, detail in fights etc. But I wasn't expecting a particularly deep, exemplary work when I decided to read a novel about dungeons and monsters with reincarnation for revenge to boot. None of that screams original sh*t anyway so criticizing based on that is very funny to me.

In a way, the reason for his luck was also explained in the last chapter. It's not... more>> like there were glaring plot holes.

Spoiler

Like, if the transcendent being who cooked up this game sent MC back in time to end the game, the least they could do is rig up his luck value to make his job easier.

[collapse]

What didn't make sense to me was how selfish all the players were but in a way, it was painfully realistic. Because I realized that if this were to happen in our world, a lot of people would turn out like these bastard players. It's actually depressing really when I think about it. So, the fact that MC doesn't fail and keeps outmaneuvering people is really great for me read. Also, it would be very bad if he failed while having all that knowledge and experience of the future while also having an information agency and a near immortal as his teammate at his disposal. The way he chose them and came to trust them was also very gradual and it satisfied me greatly that he didn't easily go back on his word and trust a ton of people after his betrayal.

Spoiler

Oh Se-chan was on Messiah's hit list and Lee Jin-ah was also someone who stood in opposition because of Oh Se-chan's death in previous life. He trusted them conditionally at first. They were basically using each other for the majority of the story. They only started having camaraderie around the 100s. And Oh Se-chan didn't even meet MC until Lee Se-jun died.

[collapse]
So I'm very surprised that people are saying he trusted people easily. He didn't. He only used the bare minimum people as a team to basically go against the majority of the world.

Anyway, there were surprisingly very few real life assassinations portrayed. But that was also explained in the way he mostly stays in houses provided by Se-chan in very low-key places that players wouldn't be staying in. However, the fight scenes in general weren't very thrilling though. I mainly docked the point for that. At least don't write him up as a genius at close combat and pro at dishing out hellish training without going into details. For ex, the stats were so blurry from the start. Also, the way the author kept repeating sentences really got on my nerves. Other than that, it was a pretty chill read. He mauled everyone right through. There was no indecisiveness. He didn't even care about any fame or fortune. He was a pretty unique character for me to read. Would have been great if it had been further fleshed out. The novel is exactly what it says. He goes back in time and dishes out his revenge while not pulling any punches. While doing that, it seems that he was blessed by 'fate'. But really, it was just his luck in game that was better. There was a reason for almost everything fitting perfectly. It was explained in the last chapter.
Spoiler

The person who put the dungeons wants to take them back lol. So they tweaked the settings a bit. It's like playing the game with the game administrator on the MC's side.

By far the one of the worst novel's I have read.

The author has skipped multiple fights that were supposedly fights where the MC is pushed to a limit.

The author blatantly gives the MC what he wished for the next paragraph.

... more>> The only character depth you will ever read is that no matter how rich they get, they are greedy for meat.

The most blatant plot hole is the fact that everyone has stockpiles of sh*t even though the apocalypse is somewhat new.

Nothing in this story is written with meaning other than entertainment and hopes that you read with a bag of salt to suck on.

Will avoid this author's work like a plague going forward. <<less

It's readable, I wouldn't call it good though. The protagonist isn't afraid to kill people and he uses necromancy with poison. Those points alone are huge plusses to me. However, that's about it... the world building is pretty non-existent, and a lot of the characters reactions are really dumb, for example (minor spoiler) :

People riot over a law that allows players to defend themselves, because apparently that's preferential treatment?

[collapse]

There's plenty of stuff like that and nothing is really explained ever, but it isn't too long so it's totally readable despite the flaws. The ending isn't good, but it isn't absolute garbage (like a novel about a certain necromancer from a subway). Overall I'd say it's worth reading if you're really searching for a novel with a neutral-aligned necromancer hero in a Korean modern day dungeons story... and you've already read the good ones, of course. <<less

Kill the Hero is a generic dungeon/monsters suddenly appear on Earth novel. If you're looking for a power fantasy where the MC obtains tons of OP items, never fails, and amazes everyone, then this is the novel for you. There are some attempts at humor by the author, mostly jokes at the expense of a bald, frugal man, but it's not the main focus of the story (although it feels like it at times since it happens so often). The novel is by the same author as The First Hunter,... more>> and it doesn't seem like the author has grown much between the two novels. The outline of the story is there, and the plot is there, but the details are lacking. The author conveniently ignores explaining things, letting the readers go straight to the action, which can be a good thing or a bad thing depending on what you're looking for in a novel. Overall, it's a solid 3/5, and if you liked Solo Leveling, you'll probably like this. <<less

Extremely similar in setting to seoul stations necromancer, with the same level of opness, but I personally liked the (slightly) more humane characters.

Power system is still ridiculous, same level of sweeping... But overall very good at delivering what it promises, and that's all that counts right?

I actually enjoyed the novel and wanted to give it 4.5 star, but I gave 1 star. Because the author touched some tropics and took it to extreme, like the author should not have touch the religious topic. Even if he touched, he should not have used profane for that religion as a whole. And the author was beyond racism in some topics. I know it's a novel and should not take it personally. But the author took it to extreme where he should have down grade it a little.... more>> The author should have known it could be disturbing to some readers even if it was an online comments or some other people's talk, after all he is the one who wrote it. <<less

Usually in this kind of novel there will come a point where I just can't stand the ridiculous power ups and dragged out fights anymore. However, this one managed to keep my attention all the way to the end due to the fast pacing and somewhat streamlined increase in power.

Like most "return to the past" novels the success of the MC relies HEAVILY on his ridiculously accurate memory of details for timestamps, locations and items combined with a generous amount of dumb luck. Although this makes the foundation of the... more>> story pretty shaky along with the unclear rules and structure of the "game", it's well made once you look past that.

Overall this novel is great for what it is, the plot is constantly moving forward toward a clear cut goal with frequent hurdles the MC has to overcome with his knowledge, alliances and abilities. I especially appreciate that the author didn't hesitate to end the novel once it had run it's course unlike many others who eventually start micro managing long fights just to showcase all the skills and enemies the MC amassed throughout the novel.

Thanks author-kun, very cool <<less

I honestly thought this was a fun little story.

it’s nothing groundbreaking but there is nothing that really annoyed me besides the fact that the author would try to pad out the length of chapters by repeating the same sentences in different ways.

idk how I would feel about this story if I didn’t start off with the manga first

Only 2 chapters left to be released until the end at the point of this review (ENG translation).

Maybe I should wait until the ending before I write this just in case it's another 'Solo Leveling' (where the ending just suddenly takes a 180 degree turn and made no sense whatsoever from the story's standpoint). But it's nothing too complicated like that thus far with only 2 chapters left so I think it should be fine.

I enjoyed the journey a lot. There are some that could be called glaring plot holes,... more>> but it's not to the point of ridiculousness that I think the author can't explain if he were to use more words.

It's a power fantasy novel and doesn't show the MC's suffering at all although you can tell after reading this much that he does indeed work hella hard with no time to rest most of the time, and 99% of the time it's just him succeeding, plans going according to his expectations, or things suddenly take a turn for the better.

That doesn't mean it's bad though. With only 275 chapters, it doesn't drag out things unnecessarily and the journey was very enjoyable for someone who came into it without any particular expectations after reading the manwha. Good light read and pass time. <<less

Kinda "standard" Kr reincarnation/regression novel, but it actually ends quickly! Like it should if you have tons of info that you can almost always one-sidedly exploit!

Spoiler

there's also a hint of a sequel and a reason as to why the MC was returned

God this novel is so flat. I enjoyed it in the beginning because it was a mindless power fantasy but I expected it to expand somewhat. Nope, just more mindless power fantasy. All the novel is MC enter dungeon -> beats dungeon -> people are amazed -> bad guys are stunned... rinse and repeat. Even the villains are flat. I mean the main villain talked like twice during all of this. No investment whatsoever. The ending felt rushed and unfinished, the author clearly ran out of steam towards the end... more>> and just wanted the novel to be all over. I only finished this novel because I had read the majority of it already so might as well. <<less

I would rate this 3.5

The story has no real element of suspense, and tbh I feel like there are contradictions in the character of the MC.

About halfway through the story, the story seems mundane as the scenes and plots seems to look like similar to previous ones and you can't feel anythin new/unpredictable in it.

So... Like others have stated before me, there's no real sense of danger or trouble for MC. He's just so perfect at everything he does. You can try to explain it through his 'experience', but even, that excuse has its limits. He's using an entirely different build after all. And he's min-maxing so hard, but 'stamina' doesn't really count stamina. The ONLY times stamina is ever an issue is when he complains about a 'stronger enemy' which he proceeds to kill in that same chapter or the next chapter making... more>> it a nonsequitor which further fellates the MC.

The series proceeds to further exacerbate by having a typical nationalistic theme, hammering who's the best. Naturally, MC, because he plays everyone, has the best plans, plans within plans never loses, and gets everything he ever needs... It's only above china in that regard without people screeching "kowtow to daddy" etc. Either way, that's shoddy. Essentially, he's pretty much a gary stu, just without the women throwing themselves at his feet as much...

If you want something where MC is infallible and is luckier than harry potter or some other clown on a tightrope... This is something for you. A guy whose personality can be summed up as "Rude Mcdude, but perfect at everything I do" - Then this is something for you. <<less

Don't know why the rating is below 5, this is a great read with a cunning MC who I thinks god-level strategies.

For eg: the enemy has has a 30 sec ultimate skill that increases his stats and makes him op (the skill can be used only once per day), what does the MC do, fight him with his trump card or equally powerful skill......

HELL NO

....... he just retreats and runs. After the duration is over comes and destroys the enemy

Spoiler

Throughout the whole novel, you get super hyped to see the clash between the MC & the villain only to see the villain dying in a few words. It was a bit anticlimactic compared to the build up.

[collapse]

Old review:

This is a revenge novel with fantasy elements. I love the MC since he's so cunning. But the more I read, the more I grow tired of the way the MC one-sidedly wins every time. I mean, the MC just mentions the name of a weapon/skill he needs and immediately gets it in the next chapter. You could explain away this since he has memories of the past. But that can only last for a few chapters. It has become a bit stale and repetitive by now. Nevertheless, I like the novel because of the details of the dungeons and the political dynamics within the countries.

The novel is glaringly childish at times, providing the MC with a plot armour thick enough to make him a God. Also,
Spoiler

When the hell will I see the villain? We've been halfway through the novel and we didn't even get a sliver of the villain BOSS

P.S. The chapter numbering is not accurate here, since the translators seemed to have divided the chapters into fragments. We're at about Ch 150/160 according to the raws. So don't worry about a rushed ending. <<less

Story: 4 / 5

Writing style/technique: 3 / 5

Translation: 3.5 / 5

Character: 3 / 5

Interesting story ruined by skips (time skips), zig zag writing technique, flashbacks a lot, clipping a lot (flashbacks). Dialogs sometimes confusing, who is saying what. The comic seems to have better adaption and pacing. Flashbacks here, flashbacks there. Time skip here, time skip there. Too much. Tiresome.
So I am 3 star for this novel. Its a shame, such a same. Interesting story ruined by the writers writing technique and style.
