Yun An was a volunteer chosen among thousands by the space time research institute. Simply planning to record the true historical events of the military revolt in the year nine hundred and sixty, she signed the consent form, stepped into the time machine, but a peculiar thing happened during her travel through time, causing Yun An to be sent to an unknown place and time…

This dynasty was not recorded in earth’s history; perhaps Yun An had entered a parallel world.

This kingdom was known as the ‘Yan’ kingdom. It’s regime was similar to the middle period of the Ming dynasty. The economy was an unprecedented level of prosperity, and the men were regarded as superior to women.

The renowned Lin family of the Yan kingdom lived in luxury and extravagance. Their extreme wealth had already continued for three generations.

However, the famous Lin family faced an awkward problem at their third generation— the master of the family had no son.

Although the master of the Lin family had seven concubines, he had not gained a son for years. Master Lin eventually became too old to have any hope for a male heir.

The rise and fall of the Lin family now rests on the shoulders of master Lin’s only legitimate daughter: Lin Buxian.

The Lin family appeared to be powerful and untouchable, but it was actually surrounded with danger.

Their wealth was hankered after by powerful ministers and coveted by their relatives. Lin Buxian was a woman, but she had to step out often. Because of this, she was often denounced by the public. Eight merchants came to attend Lin Buxian’s twentieth birthday, but they heard the shocking news that her past childhood friend had already become the lucky son-in-law of a Minister, and he intended to take her as a concubine?

Lin Buxian made an announcement to the entire kingdom during her birthday banquet; the Lin estate is looking for a handsome son-in-law, to marry and live with the bride’s family.

I EXTREMELY enjoyed this, but I'm still confused on who Yu Xianxian is, especially her relationship with Lin Buxian. Because like:
Spoiler

When they first met, Xianxian almost cried, this alone speaks so much, she clearly personally knew who Buxian is or maybe in another world. Also she treats Buxian so much different as compared to the other characters, IT'S SO CARING THAT I ALMOST SHIPPED THEM LMAO. There is definitely something in the past or in another world where they were either close friends, family, or even lovers.

I found this book after reading FGEP and I'm so glad I found it, the world building is truly amazing to a point that I even cried for the character I think everyone should reading this

Sorry for the short review~

I think the story is very good, just prepare for a very slow story, with a protagonist that has a LOT to learn, and does not take a lot of action.. very passive protagonist compared to all the characters around her, and MC's we are used to from other stories.... If you're looking for a story with a very active protagonist, or a very smart protagonist, like MC from 'Virtuous Wife' (both active and smart), I would steer clear from this. BUT this character does feel more realistic and relatable... more>> with all her flaws. And the writing/translation is great.

Even though I enjoy this novel, this review is gonna focus on the negatives, as that's what I like to read in reviews to see if they are 'deal breakers' for me. I still give it 4/5 even though it sounds like I'm raving against it.

A good summary of what kind of MC to expect:: The 'time travel' test she passed to be final applicant... The criteria was "who is the most physically fit?" that's it... It doesn't explicitly state this, but it's obvious when you read, as she explicitly states she was absorbed into the exercises due to her breakup, and didn't even pay attention to some of the lessons... which is ridiculous if you think about it.. They wanted to send an "observer", who wouldn't mess with history... And that was their only criteria... Should've been intelligence, fitness, and attachment to earth. So our heartbroken hulk goes to ancient China with barely any knowledge of the times, and she is also almost never given an opportunity to user her 'strength' in ways that are related to the main plot, so her strength and martial arts are essentially useless at least 200 chapters in btw. But you can't help but read this and keep thinking "if only those scientists sent someone who at least paid attention to the history lessons on the time they were travelling to.... we could've moved a bit quicker through all this 'why can't I treat my wife like a normal 21st century women??' from our MC".

There's a bit of 'betrayal' layered throughout story (ex-gf, beggars, li yaou, zhao xingtang, stepfather) which so far has no recourse/revenge, so there's a lot of 'angst' when reading this, and the whole time I was just begging MC to do something, anything, instead of just being stuck in her internal dialogue all day, and trying to cuddle with her wife at night.

I like the characters, I just wish the story would move a bit quicker. At like chapter 180 we have MC asking "Am I being too passive?" like hell yeah you are... you keep telling yourself "I shouldn't change the future... that science professor, once told me that I can only record history, not change it...." but at chapter 30 she is already in the history books, making big waves. But she's still just oddly not come to a conclusion on what to do, but at the same time she has come to conclusion she has to save her wife no matter what.... And I feel like her thoughts are 80% about how hot amazing her wife is... and 20% deliberating what to do... a lot of the internal dialogue is repeated repeated repeated btw.... just wish she was more active and ambitious.... Although I kind of like that she's also average Earth intelligence... On top of that, she's discovered she's in an alternate timeline, not Earth's, so it doesn't mess with 'her' future.... But she still finds a million reasons to not do anything big, so the story just moves at a snails pace for her, while everyone around her (enemies) are making big moves.... so angsty.... She constantly complains about the society, but refuses to change it. She gets betrayed, but constantly forgives or forgets. The story is still really good but there is just no outlet for the angst except the 'yuri fluff' moments, which for me start to feel repetitive with the 'she blushed, her heart fluttered'. Mainly angst for the MC being a bit slow (like completely ignoring all teachings from Earth professors, about the culture of women from the time she was traveling too, because she thought she would innately understand all women's plights from that time, because she's also a woman.... like what??). But at the same time the MC remembers a bunch of poems from China so everyone thinks she's a genius... <<less

Giving this a pretty high score because I enjoyed it. I started this on Dec 9 (in the morning) and I have read until 284 chapters so far and I'm technically still at c285. I enjoyed this story, I really did. It's pretty well thought out and I appreciate that PDL poured so much effort into making this very detailed so I got so immersed that it took me almost 5 days (Dec 14) to read those hundreds of chapters.

However I got pretty impatient once I reached c285 (I have... more>> my reasons). Since they've already gone through the very important stuff I had decided to skim it (yes until c300) and welp safe to say that I wasn't very excited to see that there was like a war of some sorts happening. I already read and loved PDL's other work which had a lot of war and tactics stuff but that made a lot of sense for that story. But for this one, I didn't really get why they had to go through so much when the relationship was already very solid and at a stable point. Like what's the point here really.

Sure I only have <20 chapters left but I was already feeling pretty done with it after c284, c'mon man wrap it up! I'll probably pick this up again and edit this review soon but right now I'm still pretty unmotivated by what I saw. This normally doesn't happen to me when I read stories with pretty light themes lol I still continue reading/watching enthusiastically even after I accidentally read a spoiler or purposefully skim to see when something interesting finally happens for myself so yeah. <<less

Was contemplating between giving this a 4 or a 5 because I dropped it, but ended up with a 5 because there are no flaws in the author's writing and it's just my personal taste that was the issue.

The main character's actions are just a bit too, , gullible? Trusting? Naive? Silly? For me and I got irked a few too many times

It's not overly so, because I reached chapter 40 and the chapters aren't short either

Extremely slow burn and slow paced, but not too boring either. There's lots of... more>> work put into side plots and worldbuilding, but be warned, if you want excitement every chapter it's definitely not for you

Might pick it up again but idk, while there's nothing wrong with it, it's slightly mediocre (apart from the fact that it's wlw) and after reading hundreds of webnovels I can't seem to get really invested

Can I just say though that as a sapphic I'm so glad there's more wlw stories being translated now. I remember years ago there was practically nothing except one or two which I read in less than a day and the other few weren't even being updated anymore—and now I click on the tag and there's so many aa ^^ <<less

First time reading (and sticking) a webnovel and I'm already hooked. I love Yun An and Lin Buxian's dynamic. They really complement each other though, the slow burn makes me want to skip a few chapters.

I really love reading this, it's very interesting and a fun read. Not to mention the author's remarks at the end of each chapter are also very fun to read. Definitely worth reading and I hope that Yixi and Yun An will continue to stay happily.

Just had to come here and give this a full mark. One of the best GL/historical works I've read. Superb work from one of my favorite authors. Highly recommend.

Really this is such a good work– with detailed writing and great content that is very hard to pause reading.

Sooooo good. Honestly, the Author is a really good writer, and the story line makes my stomach flip. A lot of emotional depth and character growth, the small interactions are so sweet. Be warned, slow burn.

The 4.9 rating isn’t just for show cuz this novel is 5 stars through and through. It’s hard to find something this good on novelupdates with a great translator like Melts. Give it a try, you won’t regret it... unless you have h*mophobia. I doubt it since you wouldn’t be here in the first place. No complaints and I basically agree with everything other reviewers said.

Ruzhui is such a good novel. Yun An, our MC, is a time-traveling lesbian from the modern era. She gets thrown back in time in a mimic skin to appear as a male for a science experiment to gather information that might have been lost in time. Due to her luck, Yun An ends up marrying Lin Buxian, fourth lady of the Lin estate. It follows Yun An and her decisions in whether or not to act as the bystander she is supposed to be or take a step and... more>> risk changing history.

I think what makes ruzhui such a good read is Yun An being the MC. She is a great narrator and character; she is honest, good-natured, smart, and quick on her feet. Best of all, she is a woman who speaks her mind and is strong about her ideas, beliefs, and what is right! But of course, Lin Buxian is a perfect FL for her. She understands Yun An, admires her, believes her, and trusts her. Their bond is one that you don't see often.

Now the characters are all good. Great even! I love them all. And I hate the ones that are meant to be hated. But Please Don't Laugh has this tendency to infuriate me and write an ending that doesn't fit.

Ruzhui doesn't really have what I would call a "bad ending." To me, it was more... disappointing. This isn't saying the novel isn't worth the read or anything. Yun An and Lin Buxian--you won't find another pair like them out there. I love them to death, and for two-thirds of the novel, it's nothing but sweet fluff. But the end brings this urgency and rush that doesn't fit the beginning flow. It kind of felt like, a steady rollercoaster that would have small bunny hills on the way that would make you get butterflies, and then at the last few tracks of the ride, you hit a sharp turn and the scenery looked... not pleasant, like a crater in the earth. And it's not the worst crater. You can work with it. But why did that have to happen...?

But hey! That's what fanfic is for...

I recommend ruzhui, though I know it might sound like otherwise, I really do! Despite feeling like a shockwave hit me at the end, it might also be due to the 300-chapter burnout. It's a long read, but there's so much stuff that goes on that it doesn't really feel like a slowburn too much, it's actually quite entertaining. It feels like the novel is simply playing out. <<less

Me likey, one of my top three GL novels (the other two are from the same author btw, PDL the great!!!)

YA is the standard for wifeys who treat their wifeys right and are willing to do anything small or big for them. LBX is simply lovely ofc, my smarty smarty pretty pookie. Anyway, the story is good, it doesn't have as much angst as FGEP and CMLL so I'm counting it as a fluffy story. I just wish there are more extras, but it's still good

The novel was amazing, I especially loved the friendship between the main love interests, not a fan of Sci-Fi so don't take my word for it but I really liked how they used it for the world building in this story it was top nocht.
