He is bound by the plot, but he awakened. The plot controls him that's why it seemed like he's abusive. The truth is that he is protecting her, but everytime he tries to explain why he can't let her go, the plot puts him in a lot of pain.

This is what's the deal with Lu Zhen being a jerk and what really happened in their previous life.
Lu Zhen did not have a system (as far as I know from reading up to chapter 1-67) but he was forced by deux machina of that world. Remember how Chu Yin controlled the actions of her transgressors? Lu Zhen was like that. He was aware of this slightly but something kept from permitting him to tell Chu Yin before and in this present life.
The real story about the abduction was that Lu Zhen was enamored with Chu Yin but it was not as grave as what Chu Yin believed it to be (as seen from his actions with saving Chu Yin after she was locked up in that room-- but like she was so traumatized who would remember or realize that?). It was only after Chu Yin was attacked by hoodlums that Lu Zhen realized he needed to keep her by his side to prevent her from being physically hurt from his enemy and that the world suddenly tries to make him behave in a certain way. Lu Zhen tries to fight back those urges to make Chu Yin suffer but he was overpowered by the authority of that world. A real lunatic that enemy of his- so disgusting. It was not explained well but prior to that, Lu Zhen was still acting normal.
In their previous life, Lu Zhen was not connected to any system. He was just controlled with the whims of that world. He only gained a system in the extras for being rewarded as the most distressing and tragic ML but only for four limited times.
So both remember their past lives. At first, I didn't want to support the ML because of what he had done in the past, however, as you read on you feel his genuine remorse and see a change in his actions as he remembers the past. He is wholly repenting and loves her sincerely and quite humbly. We also find out the reason for his past actions. Make no mistake, his reason does NOT excuse his actions. However, it does put things into perspective and explain why he had been so desperate and adamant. I love the character growth in the ML and am glad they got their happy ending.
The FL stuck to her guns. She was sassy, SO FUNNY, and just a breath of fresh air from the green tea protagonists we sometimes read. She did not just fall for him and ignore the past. She made him work. She took her time and advanced their relationship slowly but surely. I loved her.
Omg and special mention for their "son" LOL. The silly guy is the kind of friend everyone wants to have. He's lively, bright, and similar to a sunflower as he just radiates positive vibes. Love him.
what I dislike is the cheating sistem of the MC. Like erase one or two side from novel and make it happen in real worlds. I felt somewhat uncomfortable reading it.
