Description

Xu Beijin is an extra in the game ‘Escape.’ His usual role is to lie on the floor to be the corpse, while observing how the Missiontakers scratch their heads to figure out a way to survive.

All the other extras work extremely hard as if trying to win the next Oscar’s in order to leave this cruel, despairing world; while Xu Beijin has a simple, monotonous, tedious life.

Until one day, he picked up a streaming system…

Xu Beijin’s life has been entirely upended.

While lying on the floor as a corpse, the audience goes “AAAAAAAH Host what’s that behind you uwuwu…”

While he’s reading the script out loud, the audience goes “Hehehe Beibei’s so cute acting all serious! I want to lick!”

While he’s working hard to figure out the truth about this world, the audience goes “Today our Bei is also the hardworking Bei!”

While he’s… he’s working hard dating Lin Qin, the audience goes “?!?! This isn’t the horror game stream I signed up for!”

The mystery in this novel is intriguing, definitely worth reading. Each nightmare that is mentioned links to the truth and the ultimate nightmare. It is just that common people's braincells might not catch up with the explanations that we need to reread the paragraphs.

The setting of this world is

when the earth meets its end while being exposed to interstellar aliens

Romance-wise, it is slow burn and cute.

Basically, the story surrounds people trapped in a tower game of nightmares they have to solve and work their way through to leave. This particular story is really novel in that the MC isn't one of the players trapped but instead one of the 'Actors' who the players think are NPC's.

All the 'nightmares' are done really well, they seem like self-contained instances but each one contributes the true picture underlying. It's really satisfying when the little things you notice come together, and there are a lot of 'Damn, I was... more>> actually right!!" or "It crossed my mind but seriously?!". But not in a spoon-fed way. Figuring things out as a reader still feels rewarding.

The tower game itself is incredibly enjoyable to read. Every new game is unique and so well thought out 10/10

Side Characters: 11/10 They're all actually relevant and more important contributions that the are integral to the successes. All of them are fully fleshed-out 3D characters that made the story 100X better. And the MC's interactions with them are honestly so natural and intriguing (and often funny) especially since they think he's a scary-looking NPC.
Spoiler

though later on, they think of him an all-knowing omnipresent sort of existence (which is even funnier)

They all have aspirations, developments and opinions all of which influence people around them and the plot as a whole (also the mc). CP: The couple developed very naturally and you can actually see the relationship form in a 3d sense from uncomfortable strangers to pure wholesomeness. Their conversations are meaningful so it's easy to see how well they get along and why they fell in love.

It's also surprisingly funny at times. Its clearly not a comedy novel, but the author does sprinkle in a decent amount of humour that never fails to amuse. The ending was also quite satisfactory. All the big and small reveals throughout the story were able to be deduced through the foreshadowing or at least make sense in hindsight, as there were enough clues given beforehand.

Overall: Amazing plot development, the best set of characters I've ever read, satisfying mystery, great world-building.

The only negative is that occasionally (and more toward the end) is that sometimes the logic/reasoning can be hard to follow. Like, why something works or a character's thought process but usually reading over the paragraphs more carefully does make sense so it might just be me struggling to wrap my head around fast complex ideas after the 8th hour of consecutive reading. <<less

So far I really like this one. The world building is amazing and each arc is very unique. I was a bit confused by the viewers relations to the mission takers but it was explained later on. The romance is slow, it still hasn't started at all, but I like the way the author is focusing more on the mystery side of things. Overall, I rate this 4.5 stars, just because it's hard to follow without thinking (though that is what I asked for by reading this so I'm still... more>> reading it 5 stars actually). It reminds me of my house of horrors and lord of the mystery, both of which are also very good, I strongly recommend you read this! <<less

Seriously I really liked this novel. I went and mtled cause of my impatient self but still even in mtl it's quite understandable lol.

Anyway onto the review:

Writing: 4/5

... more>> Pacing :4.5/5

Plot building: 4.5/5

Characters : 4.5/5

Romance :3.5/5

At first I thought this was going to be some generic novel where MC because of his protagonist halo becomes a popular livestreamer even when he just lies down and acts like a corpse. So I was ready to leave this novel in 4 or 5 chapters but reality proved me wrong. The authors way of writing with their pacing of the story was absolute fabulous. And the character building and plot building was top notch too. They didn't just introduce some "Randoms" and forgot about it in the next chapter. They gave them life (idk how to phrase it otherwise lol) and story of their own. The author while character building other side character didn't forget the main character. Once again imma say their way of pacing and building character is soo good.

Spoiler

the first nightmare's random who I thought was forgotten played a important role in bringing one of the main side character to bottom floor of the narrow builidng. Deim. The author knows what their doing

Lol. I'm praising the author to the sky aren't I? But thats because their writing is just that good so I highly recommend it. I'm drifting again from the review

Regarding Romance, I didn't really felt much as this seemed more plot focused than romance in my opinion. But Little Apple is really good to Xu beijin. I liked their dynamics. The way little apple acts like a thug when Xu Beijin is not around is really cute too. Look

My personal view (The above were facts lol) : While reading this novel I contemplated my life decisions so much. What were to happen if earth one day was to suddenly come to an end. Will I have had lived my life to fullest at the time? Or will I be regretting that I didn't have much fun in this life while dying idk. This thinking really made me solidify my view on YOLO. You gotta live with no regrets. Dying with a smile on your face really seems more beautiful rather than a scowl. I may sound like an alarmist right now but pls don't mind me lol. I highly recommend this novel. :)))) <<less

i have to say that while the characters and plots are interesting and well written the overall setting is too dark for me to enjoy personally. It may get better but I have only read till the third arc and can't say anything definitive yet
