@c65 he's not famous enough for paparazzi but he's getting there.
We're often told to "act like adults" to de-escalate a situation and resolve things amicably, because we are POWERLESS. If you have the ability to right wrongs on the spot with much fewer consequences, you can and absolutely should do so.
The same detractors of this novel have no problems lauding superhero novels where a superhero violently engages a villian. I don't see detractors of IRAS complaining why these superheroes didn't attempt to TALK DOWN the villains before beating them down. Maybe the villain has a history of mental disorder, a broken family, etc? Heck, even Batman often tried to reason with the villains first! Agreed, it probably doesn't help that the MC is big on nationalism and bashes a lot of neighboring countries like Japan/Korea/India/etc. But you can't deny that a lot of the author's points about other cultures are quite valid. I'd refute some of the low ratings with spoiler comments.
Stereotypes are part of the joke, all the top comedians you see on TV do it (Chapelle, Bill Mahr, Chris Rock, Kevin Hart, John Oliver, Russell Peters, etc). If you can't find humor in that, then you have NO BUSINESS reading/watching comedy. Japanese/Koreans are xenophobic, Indians are gender biased and treat their women badly, and there are many countries actively trying to exploit the Chinese entertainment market (just like the Western countries' movie industries are doing now). The author also pokes fun at plenty of bad actors within the Chinese community too, from an over-reliance on nepotism and connections, to heavy corruption.
It's to the point that the book got temporarily banned multiple times by China's SARFT. If you think China's censorship bureau is a beacon of moral justice then you need to get your head checked.
So GET OVER YOURSELF.
The MC is not a hero, and has never proclaimed himself as such. He knows he has a useful power and exploits it as much as possible. He has his own set of ideals and justice, and finds humorous ways to enforce it. No one thinks Light Yagami from Death Note was a hero for his ruthless killings, but everyone loved him for it.
