Kinda tired of the usual trope of yandere obsessing over someone, imprisoning them, and torturing them both physically and mentally until they break.

In my mind the concept of yandere is that when someone twisted is just so in love and devoted that they'd do ANYTHING so their loved one could be happy even though they don't really know how to do it right. It might not be perfect, sometimes it might be downright disturbing, but they're trying and it's genuine.
