The list consists of novels that could be rated higher with a certain aspect improvement. It can be the plot, the author's writing, the translation, the character's development and so on. 

The fact that these are all 'pitiful' works means that every novel doesn't have a high rating. However, reading might be worthwhile since you could know what the novels lack to become better.
