For those who dislike it from the beginning, let me tell you that FL does fight back but she mainly sees the ones who bully her from a mature point of view as someone who is mentally older than them. It's something rare to see with regression since usually the MCs act as they want or give into that desire to fight back. The FL isn't a doormat, just someone who turns away from the immature people, she doesn't care since she thinks of them as people who can improve.

The... more>> ML fall in love my chap 30 (or before) and always urges her to kill the ones who hate her. He's not a violent and thoughtless person, he just hates humans and thinks of them from a dragon's point of view. He genuinely wants the FL to have better and he does care of her.

I find the novel well built and the protagonists feel human to me. I like the fact that it's difficult to understand them in a way that they both react as a regular, living thing would. The FL didn't automatically get over her trauma, nor did she hate anyone arbitrarily for how they acted toward her previously. The ML knew FL in her past life and actually has a believable view of wondering if she is actually the person he knew. He keeps secrets from her in a way that is understandable, he cares for her and isn't overly protective. Both of them genuinely like the other person and they show how FL's cousin acts that way towards her without explaining his actions and giving us reasons to try make us like him better. Although the antagonist might be a bit shallow, it's understandable since he hasn't had too many appearances.

If you're reading the novel, give it a chance before making any opinions. <<less

It's a frustrating read because of doormat MC that makes me want to hit her so much. I mean, even leaving mu*der aside, there are so many ways she could take revenge using dragon's powers! But she doesn't do ANYTHING. Just taking abuse like a martyr for absolutely nothing.

This novel is about ABUSE ABUSE ABUSE. Even when the tiniest refreshing moment comes, it's not because of MC but because MC's dragon is also pissed off with her situation.

Also, for some people who say FL does start fighting back: her 'standing... more>> up for herself is just that' - she gives a clever speech and shuts up her opponent but... nothing really changes. When we consider the small improvements of her quality of life that happened in her timeline, many of them came from secondary scum ML having his 'the puppy I owned stopped wagging her tail at me' moment + main ML doing his own thing on the sly. FL doesn't even TRY to plan out a better life for herself, learn her new powers, seek knowledge, make connections... She just accepts situations as they come without being proactive.

I think this is what makes her even more intolerable to me than the lack of revenge. There are so many things she could already try to do, when you consider that the dragon has already displayed her attribute conversion, invisibility, appearance/s*x change, etc. But she never even thinks about what she can do with any of that. Even her plans, in the middle of the book, only include going to the temple to get the remnants. But she doesn't think at all what she's going to do with her free life after that! I've read hundreds of Korean novels/manhwas and usually FL has a set goal: starting a business, becoming a land owner, farming, having a family, crafting, founding an orphanage... Sure, the goal may change or other goals may appear, but at least it's a loose direction for the story to go. But there are just holes in THIS FL's brain. It's like she isn't even interested in her own life or the world outside. She says she's fine 'living as a commoner', but she has no idea what she's even going to do. If MC has no interest in her own life other than not to suffer, how am I supposed to find her interesting or emphasise with her?

I started on this novel because manhwa art was absolutely STELLAR but... the plot and characterisation are a massive let-down.

Even ML isn't really that great for a big part of this. While his personality is okay enough and he has some cute moments with MC, from the very beginning we find out that he contracted MC's previous incarnation and that incarnation betrayed him. So, he wants to fulfil MC's wishes and make her feel as much pain as possible afterwards as revenge. His motives are not pure. He also compares MC to her previous incarnation in every chapter to the point where, despite them supposedly being the same soul, it reads almost like a 'replacement lover' trope sometimes tbh. It does get better, but he still gives off the vibes of 'ML whose lover passed away and he is warmed up by new lover'.

Verdict: if you want a story about a biblical-like, turn-the-other-cheek saintly MC who endures all pain and gets something remotely resembling reward only at the very end of the story - this is for you. If you are expecting this to be one of those stories where MC actually changes her life after gaining powers - this ain't it. <<less

I'm giving this 5 stars to counteract some of the low ratings. I started reading this from the manhwa adaptation and I know our main character gives off doormat vibes at first, but it does get better. At least from what I've read so far. Elaine's decision not to seek death for the ones that hurt her felt like a realistic decision as she's realistic about human nature. Killing them won't make her life better, it will just make her a mu*derer. There are a few characters where I hope... more>> for some sly retribution as the story continues, though... Looking forward to more. <<less
