Xu Qin was stunned, her heart was beating so wildly as if it would lose control soon.

She nodded, “Yes.”

He looked at her for a long time and said, “I regret it, Xu Qin.”

“Ah?”

An absolute favorite Chinese novel. We are excited for the drama adaptation. Re-reading it again and making an account to leave a rating. Xu Qin is not your perfect and all-knowing FL. She is flawed which she admits and she is indecisive.

She was forced to make a choice when she shouldn't have to : (. Song Yan is really a good man. He suffered the most but he is still upright and kind. :' (He really helped Xu Qin find her way home aka HIM. With Song Yan, Xu Qin can be her true self.

I'm so envious of Xu Qin. I really cried and felt hot all over when reading their sweet moments. Their high school romance deserves a separate book with a detailed story telling.

Put this on myist for a while already. Now I will start reading this because I just saw the teaser of the drama with my fav actors in it, and it looks promising much.

My expectations are high :)

Done reading it all. It's a good read. A bit heavy and dark but still light enough. I enjoyed reading each chapter. All characters are interesting, with each has their own interesting points.

Recommended to read.

I live for the angst and drama. Maybe, I really have the habit of rereading the same novel after just finishing it.

There'a review I saw, asking why there are 4-5 reviews despite of the bad translation. So excuse me first for my ramblings. Well as for me, if you're too immersed and connected to the story, the grammar won't affect neither your mood nor the story at all. You will still understand what exactly do they mean or want.

He really knew her. He knew how insecure, confuse and inferior she... more>> felt. So he may act coldly whenever she chased him but I think thats his way of protecting both of them and letting her sort her emotions.

And he asked her twice, regardless of what happen in the past, what would she choose now? For both times, she's undecided but still he didn't blame nor resent her. He only blamed himself for his lacking abilities and not giving her the courage of choosing him. Don't get me wrong, FL is not a b*tch. She's just realistic. She's living like a princess before her parent's sudden death and her life in the orphanage so shes afraid of losing the family, power and current lifestyle. But still she made efforts to be with him. Whenever they talk, sit side by side or just look at each other from afar, I can definitely feel the angst, loneliness, love and s*xual tension. It's sweet yet bitter. The author really did a good job for making us feel the romance without even saying sweet nothings or having PDA. So, I'm really excited for the upcoming drama <<less

Over all it's a very enjoyable novel to read. Usually I do not like novel that goes back and forth from present to past because most of the time the past is more interesting than the present, but the author did a great job of making the present the highlight of the novel. FL is very relatable, I can understand her struggle of wanting a balance of the love life and family. FL is not your typical antisocial obey rules type of girl, she is complicated and has multiple flaws... more>> and that's what makes her human and relatable. I love that ML is the one that gave in to let go of his pain and ego to pursue her again knowingly that he might get hurt again. He's so sweet and incredibly understanding to her. Definitely every women's dream to be love and accepted with all her insecurities and flaws. It just took them multiple natural disasters, fires, and accidents to get back together LOL Either way it's a must read! The translation was ok, at times it didn't make sense, but not so bad that you'll be turn off by it. <<less

I created an account just to give this novel a 5 star. This is a really well written though there's some grammatical errors with the pronouns but it not so bothersome. I like how the author keep you on hook and wanted to check the next chapter, only few authors have that kind of capacity. Its well worth reading this novel. Thank you for translating this novel.

Reading this felt like a slow, bubbling warmth in my gut that slowly spread to my whole body.

This novel was slow-paced which was understandable as it took time for the main leads to get over their misgivings but the love and understanding they exhibited for each other was so moving. The story was fairly reminiscent of Mo Bao Fei Bao's 'The Road Home' with the male leads being involved in jobs concerning public safety and both having a strong sense of justice. It took me a while to get into the story, at first I didn’t understand (or like) the FL, bit she slowly grew on me

It is a slow burn novel and in the end I enjoyed it

As far as the translation goes, there were several times the pronouns were incorrect, and there were some odd phrases and grammar errors. But, the story is still understandable and compelling, and the translator worked hard

This is the first story I’ve read by 88 Tang, and I am looking forward to reading more (if... more>> you’ve read my reviews you may notice I get attached to translators :))

I recommend this novel if you are patient and don’t mind a few errors <<less

I don't know how to express my words on how good and must read this novel is. It's beautiful and wonderful story for me. This novel is a rollercoaster ride, it will give you so much emotions each chapter. Never disappointed on this story. Well-written and translated. I really admire Main Leads work, it must be really hard for them but they still did it and continue to serve to ppl everyday 24/7. They have a bittersweet love story and idk how many times I feel sad for them but... more>> anyways, they still end up with each other so im at peace.

“You and your family, no one has right to say that I don’t deserve her.”

This words coming from ML really caught my attention. I truly love his character. They both deserve each other <3 <<less

a really really lovely story. Not to be an a**hole, but the translation can be wonky and some parts didn't flow well, which is a shame because this novel is so beautifully written I feel the translation did not give it justice.

It is a romance story that is well written, poignant, and very compelling. The tension between both leads are palpable since their very first scene. As you keep on reading, there are many things to unpack especially on what drove the characters to their decisions and who they became as an adult. Their love story is heartbreaking and frustrating, but at the same time, you will understand the reasons that you can't just fault them. It also touched upon psychological issues in such a subtle way. i can't describe how much I love this story !
i always like when the story goes about the couple parting but comes to reunites again ! It's just show how much they love each other and keep waiting for each other
and the story shows Love need sacrificed but don't worry its HE !
their relationship is the best one among all chinese novel i've read before.

What the! Discovering this is a blessing from heaven. You may be frustrated for both ML and FL that you thought they are both stubborn and has great amount if pride but when you dived more into the story you’ll understand all the sacrifices they both need experienced. Ten years! Ten years of yearning. Also let’s appreciate the job of the ML it is so freakin honourable so don’t down on them...

As someone who likes flawed and/or problematic characters, I can not stand reading this. The author isn't able to make flawed characters bearable to like. The most mindboggling thing about this novel is about how MC keeps being hypocritical about her life situation and how she keeps bothering ML despite knowing she still could not abandon her wealthy adopted family, then proceed to act like a f*cking pitiful victim in front of ML. I feel like the only reason MC could be liked was that her beautiful face.

Another problem is... more>> about how this novel, despite having a really flawed MC, is actually a plot driven story which means reader never really can sympathize that well with things revolving both leads. Though I would say the chains of events happening is very unrealistic too like how both lead have actually worked in their respective job for years but they only ever met like for the 37573848 times "accidentally" after the author starts writing chapter one. <<less

I really like the female lead character, Xu Qin. She is flawed, especially in the beginning of the novel but the author gave the reader a few glimpse that she was not that cold or completely heartless person.

The relationship between them also (very) realistic. Both of them willing to sacrificed everything but XuQin wants to see his effort and SongYan wants XuQin's commitment to their relationship.

About the translation, big thanks for the translator but to be honest, its kinda patchy but the story was good enough to distract it.

If you... more>> wants angst, realistic portrayal of relationship between rich and commoner and happy ending story then you should check it out. <<less

I suggested reading the most recent translation by tsuki for a more accurate and concise read. Waiting for You in a City/A City, Waiting for You is about Song Yan and Xu Qin, who fell in love in high school, but due to their differences, they part ways. Ten years later, Song Yan is now a firefighter, and Xu Qin is a surgeon. Realizing they still have strong feelings for each other, the two fight to be in each other's lives again.

What I liked the most about this novel is... more>> that it is purely relationship driven. The story is about Song Yan and Xu Qin's romance and how they approach their love differently as adults. They have to move past their grudges and overcome their struggles to achieve what they want. Xu Qin is not empathetic, can be manipulative, and struggles with acceptance due to her identity and upbringing. In contrast, Song Yan comes off as the ideal male lead due to being relenting, forgiving, accepting, and righteous (despite his baggage). Because this novel is about their love story, I love how I can feel their longing, pain, sweetness when they're together, etc. The author does well at describing emotions and inner monologues/feelings.

Yet the biggest flaw in this novel is also because it's relationship driven. There's so much backstory to make these two characters realistic and maybe even relatable. Yet, through all the angst and misunderstanding, we only hit the tip of the iceberg with Song Yan and Xu Qin. Some aspects could have been better correlated into the story to make us understand certain characters. I felt like I had to fill in the blanks and connect certain parts to understand why a misunderstanding or action occurred because the information trickled into the present with a flashback/conversion about a past incident that was supposed to make one character a certain way. For example:

Xu Qin's lack of familial love led to her cold and distant personality and inability to empathize and connect with people. It also leads her to come off as manipulating Song Yan in their youth because she doesn't know how to approach love and feelings. It doesn't unravel how Xu Qin has grown through Song Yan's love. It just tells us that Xu Qin feels strongly for Song Yan and is willing to fight for him and that Song Yan knows her past and why she acts a certain way.

So if we look at it through the perspective of going into an angst-filled romance about a firefighter and surgeon that isn't filled with propaganda, then this one is quite sweet in how strongly they feel for each other. Given the number of chapters and length per chapter, it's easy to read through (also understandable why there's not much depth outside of romance). I subjectively gave it a 4/5 (a bit inflated - more of a 3-3.5), but I did enjoy reading it for what it was. <<less
