I ended up rooting for General Lin instead? Even before the timeskip where the ML grows up I was already a little into the dynamic MC and General Lin had, which is WEIRD for me because I can enjoy these black bellied MLs for what they are but this time I'm only reading for a cp I know won't come true orz. The author writes General Lin and MC interactions so well too TT. When MC was forced to be MLs empress do you know what General Lin said? You kno w what he said??? he said even if MC became MLs empress he would still want to be MCs guard and continue protecting him🥲 They dont even need to be a cp I just want them to continue working together because I KNOW MC relies on General Lin and trusts him a lot. But I could NOT keep reading after I realised they were actually trying to make General Lin and QiCheng a legit cp 🤢. QiCheng's unrequited love I could handle but after the story deported General Lin away from MC just so ML could have a chance and shoved QiCheng and General Lin interactions in front of my face I literally coughed up blood, especially from Qicheng how could this m*therf*cker sleep well at night knowing he r*ped General Lin when he was drunk. someone save him from QiCheng. I have 0 tolerance for QiCheng, I had to calm myself down because he would be the worst dude alive if he was real, I'm not even pi*sed about ML and he's a vinegar eating bastard he's just kind of... there, but QiCheng omfg QiCheng, he's clingy wont take a hint constantly touches people when they tell him to stop thinks if he pushes his ugly ass onto General Lin then maybe he'll have a chance and never watched frozen because he wont LET IT GO, fkn hell leave QiCheng BEGONE the power of christ buddha allah kanye west COMPELS you

The people who actually enjoyed the side couple have probably done a couple too many white lines because they are stoned out of their minds. Conclusion, read if you like a black bellied ML and a kind MC (doormat, MC was way cooler with General Lin theres no lie in what I said) relationship but if you have impeccable taste like me you'll also have your heart broken by another cp that will never happen. <<less

Actually, I kinda dislike ML at first for his wrongdoing towards MC although it must be because of his reincarnation, also his jealousy is really too much. MC really is patient towards ML, somehow I hope author can make LQ and MC for being couple in alternate universe

Rating this story is something that is very difficult for me.

On the one hand I really enjoyed reading this story (Despite the fact that this story is far from perfect). But on the other hand every character written in the story is so s*upid that it makes me want to slap them one by one.

So this story has two main pairs with two main and two side characters.

... more>> First we have Qi Cheng and Lin Qingye.

Qi Cheng is a rapist, a f*cking rapist, and as if that wasn't enough, he's also a person who likes to manipulate other people in various ways, from telling other people bad things, getting someone drunk and much more.

Meanwhile Lin Qingye could be said to be a fairly normal character. He initially falls in love with one of the main characters (Ke Ruan), But under the influence of manipulation and r*pe (Thanks to Qi Cheng) He ends up staying with Qi Cheng at the end of the story.

But even though he ended up staying with Qi Cheng and spending his life happily. It was also explained that his heart still belonged to Ke Ruan (And actually this is quite tragic for me).

Ok enough with the side characters we will discuss the main character.

Ke Ruan is a typical Mary Sue character or rather than Mary Sue, He can also be called a typical idiot character.

It was said in his previous life Ke Ruan was a doctor, but instead of showing his medical skills, he actually shows cooking skills. I mean if it's like this, wouldn't it be better to tell that he was a chef in his previous life???

What's even worse is, it is said that before he died he almost wanted to start a family, but for some reason throughout the story, suddenly he was told to be a single person. For Si Yuhan he was a black belly character, but even so he still has common sense and reason to have such a trait, and the most important thing is that he never r*ped or forced Ke Ruan into violent s*x.

Although the first time they had s*x Si Yuhan felt he r*ped Ke Ruan, but it wasn't really like that because he was just pretending to be drunk, and Ke Ruan didn't refuse either

So the point of all the character in this story is that they are too dominant in one trait so it really spoils the mood of the story itself.

Not to mention the ending of the second pair that was too forced. I mean wouldn't it be better to make each of them live their own life??? Because even though in the end they are happy together, one of them still keeps his heart for someone else.

Several chapters weren't linked on the NU page such as chapters 2-14 so I added the links.

As for the story itself, it is good and reminds me a little of Scum Villain's Self-Saving System.

I took off a star because an editor is needed. It's not unreadable, but there are some errors like:

    • Waking up after a sleep, Ke Ruan surprisingly found that he had travelled to the world of the book Emperor Ming after talking with the people around him.
I'd correct it to:

    • Upon waking up, Ke Ruan found to his surprise after talking with the people around him that he had travelled to the world of the book 'Emperor Ming'.
It's not like it's unreadable unedited MTL, but I would still recommend having an editor to improve certain aspects. If you're someone who can't look past a few mistakes then you won't enjoy this, but if you can look past them then you'll have a good experience.

And even better, this doesn't have as many info-dumps as many transmigration novels have.

It started with good premise and logical way, with less flaws. I pretty much enjoy the beginning chapters. Appreciate for translators hard works.

I pretty much enjoy the start - despite ML character was a bit dimensional and began to feel bored in the middle. Many tropes and forceful events. It just like the author mixing "these type of negative vibes must be put to the plot so it will be called politic / misunderstanding".

I'm fond of two character only - MC (Ke Ruan) and General Lin. Both of them are... more>> the most logical people. Type of relationship between MC and ML wasn't saccharine, it's more into toxic relationship and caused by many misunderstandings that the author deliberately created and resolve sometimes later just because the author didn't want to mention about them. In fact, I understand many misunderstanding tropes needed to create angst or tension, however in here, it like you just throw misunderstanding so that there will be plot line.

This story involves underage as well. I'm a bit mixed feeling about underage romance.

Some arcs were not satisfying.

I pity General Lin's arc. He was a noble and good man. Love triangle plot and misunderstanding weren't needed. His romance was terrible. It's forceful and I really hope he didn't end up with Qin Cheng. That's too dramatic.

Ke Nuo-nuo was terrible. I love her in the beginning as a child but she started to have Princess Syndrome. Well, she was indeed a Princess, but she was there to trigger absurd conflict.

I'm really enjoying this so far! The translations are pretty good, though the usual name flipping occurs quite a bit (for our General Lin mostly flipping between Qingye and Yeqing)

MC is relatively chill and super patient, being an adult and a doctor. He works hard to make his new life path smoother and to right the sh*t that the original Ke Ruan did. He's a good man but a little bit dumb on the EQ scale, poor LQY. It's unfortunate he tends to suffer the common "I'm unable to... more>> explain myself" syndrome when it often comes to ML (who also doesn't stop long enough to listen so that doesn't help lol)

The ML's pretty possessive and he is often like a bear child that never grew up, aka biggest vinegar in existence, what's mine is mine and they're not allowed to look anywhere else but me... which is somewhat understandable after all he's been through and now MC is spoiling him to bits but he's sweet to MC for the most part and doesn't abuse him. Just some minor sabotage and planned mu*ders, is all.

The second pair (to be) is just a classic tragedy but they a good breather for in between chapters. They make me stressed out for the oblivious MC though (cry)

I had so much expectation for this novel. I love vinegar eating black-bellied ML but this too far. I know in his past life awful, but this like tying a person to bed so that person stay by his side.

Okay, so, when I started reading this, I didn't have that much expectations.

The translation is not one of the best, but its probably due to the little time given to the translator. It's not that you can't read it or anything.

... more>> In the beginning, the story was doing quite well, and I was enjoying it, but after a certain point, the things that started to happen just disappointed me one after another.

Most of the characters' personalities are very frustrating (one's too spoiled, one's too naive, one's too domineering and drinks too much vinegar, one is just a bastard...)

My biggest problem here was with a side character, Qi Chen. The things he does and the fact that he doesn't regrets it or feels any remorse about it. In the end the author gives him (forces *cough cough) a "happy ending" and completely ignores all the problematic stuff that have happened. It's just very frustrating.

I really loved the way this book started. The chapters are short and interesting, but I think the story is too slow paced, like I'm going to reach chapter 100 and the MC (15) and ML (7) are still smoll kids with conscience that of a grown man. The MC is cute and funny but sometimes too s*upid and naive that makes me want to jump into the book and flick his forehead. And in some chapters, the paragraphs are just so confusing.

It was pretty good until the time skip. This is all bias just because it uses some tropes that I’m really not fond of but it you don’t mind them then this would probably be an ok light read.

The MC is a bit bland but fine as a narrator, he can sometimes be funny and he is very endearing when he takes care of other characters. He’s really kind and soft hearted to the point where it kinda got annoying. He lets the ML get away with so much just... more>> because he’s such a doormat, it’s honestly frustrating watching him in the later chapters just under reacting to literally everything that happens. By the end I was really just pleading for him to slap the ML at least once, unfortunately (at least to where I’ve read) it never came.

The ML is the classic possessive yandere type gong which I’m not a huge fan of but I can handle if he’s not paired with a doormat shou which unfortunately he was. Similar to the MC he’s actually pretty fun to read in the early chapters before he becomes all powerful but not so much after.

I actually really enjoyed the side couple, they were the only ones providing any real drama by the end and for that I’m grateful. They came serving friends to enemies to lovers and they delivered. Characters actually lashed out at each other and fought and showed emotion it was great.

Again if these tropes don’t bother you this is a great light read to do when your bored but if you’re not a fan I’d steer clear. I’m gonna be dropping it here just because the main cp was getting kinda heard to read about and the side couple wasn’t making up for it anymore. <<less

Chapters are short but I do like the pacing. I spy 2 cp couples within as of chapter 62 heheh.

This is also my first novel that in reading in Chinese. I wanted to read all in English but the Flying Lines site had to be paid to continue reading. For those who knows Chinese and also want to MTL yourself, this is a relatively easy novel to follow.
