Although Xie Zhi’s acting career was in a slump, he still hated playing bit parts and rejected the role of a soy sauce (read: extremely minor) character in a web drama. Unexpectedly, he died and transmigrated into a novel to become the dead benefactor character who only shows up in the protagonist’s memories: Xie Zhiwei.

…hold on, isn’t this the same soy sauce character he refused to act?!

To avoid repeating the same tragedy, Xie Zhiwei had no choice but to team up with the System to play (work) act (hard) at his part (death).

System: The protagonist needs a teacher, so his shizun will be…
Xie Zhiwei: Leave it to me.

System: The protagonist needs to level up, so his helper will be…
Xie Zhiwei: Leave it to me.

System: The protagonist needs to blacken, so the villain will be…
Xie Zhiwei: Leave it to me.

System: The protagonist needs to fall in love, so the heroine will be…
Xie Zhiwei: @#$^! you, let me float away ethereally.

Mu He: Shizun, please fly into this disciple’s arms~

A transmigrator got into cultivators world as a shizun of the book protagonist who has a half devil bloodline and a huge harem of beauties. To survive, MC treats ML well and thus ML falls in love him. Then shizun dramatically dies in front of ML thus making the latter heartbroken but revives in several years, hides his identity, lurking around ml. Does the plot remind you of smth, hahaha? In general the plot felt very second hand and dubcon was quite heavy (but later ML cried his way into... more>> MC bed) so I cannot say that I loved it but I did not hate it either. I love this kind of plot, I do not like dubcon. <<less

Boy oh boy...

I really don't know if I should continue this. In ALL honesty, I did enjoy the beginning up to where ... more>>
Spoiler

ML died since he was already poisoned by the Bai duo. He self sacrifices to prevent MC from getting to dependent on him plus he thought he would return in a year.

[collapse]

But things kinda went downhill after that. Hate how ML and MC treated each other. ML is so bent on following original plot that he really just treats the other characters like characters without any thoughts, cares or feelings.

And MC, he became so blackened and so possessive that it's like reading a whole new character. The only trace of him is probably him acting pitiful after every act of shoddiness.

I don't know if I will complete this but if I do I will update again, but for now.. I'm gonna stay with 3/5 and that's because the beginning was really decent.

I will update again!

- UPDATE -

I completed it. Skimmed past some chapters when it got too draggy. I'm still staying with 3/5 for this because ML was stuck with following a plot and MC is like his name. Wooden and thus cannot communicate properly.

This is similar to SVSS but while I get annoyed with Mu He, I somehow don't with Luo Binghe. Meh. Maybe just me being biased. 😆 <<less

I enjoyed first part of the story more than later chapters. And the final battle situation dragged on for several long chapters which annoyed me. The system was rly annoying at times. Not entirely happy with how their relationship developed but overall it was an OK story. Well translated. Kept me entertained and engaged. Overall good experience reading.

I also like SVSSS but you guys need to stop bringing it up lol. It’s disrespectful asf to talk abt other titles on reviews, also literally 90% of the shizun tropes are like this:
Spoiler

puppylike and obsessive younger top, transmigrated bottom who appears cool but actually commentating on everything, bottom fake death (usually top keeps corpse for x number of years)

[collapse]

So if you’re looking for originality in shizun novels in the first place, don’t. The chances of finding an actual good one is so low you might as well hope to win the lottery tmrw

But onto why I gave it 3 stars: It feels like I simultaneously read a lot and read nothing at the same time. The arcs are pretty boring and most do not include much world building or even main couple romance?? It’s hard to describe but yeah. I stopped myself so many times trying to finish it.

The storytelling is actually good but I really can't accept how mol*station & r*pe was treated as nothing here. MC even said something like:

Spoiler

"Isn't it just [being r*ped]... it's not like I'm a girl who'd be seeking death and crying."

r*pe ruins all its victims, regardless of gender or sexuality.

[collapse]

I was actually enjoying the story and characters but the way the noncon scenes are presented is just too much.

As for the comments saying it's similar to SVSS, the translated CN comments said it best: this was never an original trope.

I agree with all the other readers here who gave 3.0 stars below. They already said what I intended to mention. So why do I still want to write a review? Simply because I wanted to emphasize that I don't usually post nor comment reviews but this novel just makes me have the urge to write one. Is it amazing? No. I wouldn't say that it's bad though, but I wouldn't say that it's good either. It started out great, but everything went downhill later. Some things in the novel... more>> pissed me off that I just wanted to rant. <<less

After the middle of the second arc, the novel became so laborious I really didn't want to finish it.

If it wasn't for CG's consistently amazing translations, I would've long dropped the novel.

There were trigger warnings for non-con or dubious non-con, but it was straight up r*pe and mentions of it afterwards were so dismissed that it was kind of hard to get over it. I kind of understand why MC glosses it over while it happens because he just thinks 'Im in a role, I don't need to be mentally... more>> present'. But then it's never addressed afterwards. He's basically treated as a s*x doll even though there was a previous arc that shows the consequences of forcing love onto an unwilling participant! That arc was literally a sticking point to ML cause he realizes it's not worth having his Master if his master doesn't reciprocate his affections. And ML being in a delirious state doesn't excuse anything. Even when ML is perfectly sober, he'll use MC's body while MC is sleeping.

I've willingly read some messed up sh*t in other novels but this one made me mad. I think the difference is that I'm not too convinced that MC loves ML. I think the cares about ML, but the transition from MC seeing ML as a child/student to a lover wasn't as fully fleshed out as it should be. Right before the final declaration it still felt like it was pity that evolved to a form of codependent relationship.

The MC only knew the ML for two months before their first parting and maybe another half year when they reunite before their second parting. Everything he knew about the ML up to that point was the novel version so he had big misconceptions about ML's personality and with his internal rejection of ML's feelings, I'm just really not convinced how he developed feelings of romantic love towards ML.

Plot wise, after Arc 1.5, there was just so much whiplash back and forth, kidnappings, rescue, missed communication, more kidnapping, more rescues, etc. I did enjoy a lot of other characters like the other Peak Leaders of the Sect and ML's dad and the Buddhist sects. MC and the System/Gallant Outlaws interactions were also really fun. There were some gems in the novel that made the reading journey bearable.

The only thing I loved was Tantai Meng, the original heroine. She was such a fleshed out female character in a BL novel. The author gave her a lot of heart and character that I was elated everytime she showed up.

There was a bit at the end that I'm ambivalent towards though--where ML states his insecurity where he thinks MC has disappeared for the night but self-soothes by reminding himself that the MC does care for him and has died for him, so MC obviously loves him and he doesn't need to worry. But it just really drives home the fact that they have an codependent relationship and MC doesn't really try to affirm his love and provide emotional security for the ML. Even during the fun 'interview section', ML announces that he'll love MC forever and MC replies, I'll let you love me forever. I appreciate that the ML is trying not to go yandere route but this probably feels like the most toxic master/disciple romance I've read in a while. <<less

I drop this. Reading this reminds me of scumbag system. I dont know maybe because ive read many historical wuxia novels that has similar plot. Where the MC transmigrate into a character that supposed to be a teacher who will guide the ML to become a powerful character or to prevent the ML from blackening. Or the MC transmigrate into a charcters that supposed to act as a trigger for the ML to have an op transformation or development. But at the end the MC will occ a lot and... more>> will bend the ML and he falls in love with the MC instead of the fl. And the MC realised the plot is digressing a lot and he realise that the ML is acting abnormally around him and he tries to convince the ML to be straight again and convince himself that he is striaght and he has no interest in the ML and the ML forces the MC and at the end the MC still falls for the ML anyway. There are really too many novels with plot lines like this. And reading the same thing again and again gets boring. There are other novels that I find much more interesting than this with the same plot. Love the translation but the story was meh.. English is my second language, I dont know if this make sense.

This is just my small opinion. And you dont have to agree with me. Its not my business to tell people what or what not to read, your free to read and judge it for yourself. Maybe its to your liking. Maybe if this is my first bl novel maybe my reaction with be totally different from this. Ive read hundreds of bl novels that I cant keep track anymore. <<less

Translation was really good! (CG has finished translating it, just get the password from discord)

Story wasn't bad, but I think it didn't have as many surprises as I expected to really break-out-of-this-trope.

Actually the character development and transformations were done very well. The ML isn't your typical cold type (very cute and clingy). Except, some of the pacing issues made it slightly a chore to get through (the story alternated between being too slow to having too many quick hits all at once). And there really weren't many surprises in... more>> the first half of the book, everything has that stereotype xianxia feeling, which was just a bit boring in my opinion.

I really like the well-rounded supporting characters in the cast! They definitely shined a LOT more at the end, and I wish the author could have brought out a bit more of that through the novel instead of back-loading it all.

Ultimately there was just a little something missing that would have pushed it into my favorites category. A solid read however, if you like novel transmigration / master-disciple relationships. <<less

Just so everyone is aware, CG has done the full translation of this text! On to the review:

Spoiler

I feel like there are many novels where, because of how many chapters there are, the plot drags and becomes boring. This was not the case in this novel. It was enjoyable to read each chapter. And though the writing wasn't the best in the world, it kept me entertained.

I liked the romance aspect of this novel as well! The ML of the novel did sexually assault the MC (please check the tags), but the feelings didn't feel forced on the MC. He gradually understood that he loved the ML from the bottom of his heart, dying for him multiple times and even walking through fire to save him. Most yandere BL novels have more of a stockholm syndrome development so I appreciated the (mostly) realistic and honest development in this novel.

The storyline could have been improved. There didn't really seem to be a goal for the ML aside from thinking about his feelings for the MC. He was attempting to get revenge, but we saw so little of that as readers. It was mostly just him and MC doing something miscellaneous before MC dies without any prerogative. Then, after the MC comes back, it still feels like he has no motive. Yeah, he wants to see the ML, but what after that? He has no future plans. This is also where we magically see how much the ML has changed and how strong he is. It's a big jump with little explanation. If anything, the final arc after the MC dies again and the ML waits around for four years by his corpse was more believable and logical than any other part of the book, in my opinion.

I also disliked how the final boss came out of nowhere. There was zero hinting or insinuating that he would end up being such a powerful adversary. It felt like a final shot in the dark to lengthen the novel. But, I did like what the final boss molded the ending into. I love the way MC truly shows he loves the ML enough to die for him — forever this time. It gives flesh to his character.

Anyways, I loved this novel! I don't know if it's good enough to read again, but I'm glad I was able to read it the first time. I would recommend for sure!

If you like scumbag system, Erha or similar genre this is for you. Full of dogblood, twisted desire, aghast and drama. Yup another twist up torture, body and soul ride. But I enjoyed it very much. Thank you

I would like to say that while in the beginning MDE starts off similarly like SVSSS but it becomes pretty good and it made me emotional with alot of tears. Also since I really love Shizun/disciple trope sprinkled with transmigration-into-novel, I had the best 3 days binging this novel.

MC really not my cup of tea. He’s reckless and s*upid I dont know how he could ignored the very obvious thing and focus on something so s*upid like ML’s harem candidates all the time. With a bunch of plot holes here and there I really can’t understand the annoying MC and make myself to like him.

I dropped this.

Thought the snarky MC was funny, enjoyed his internal rants while he acted flawlessly. The story was pretty good too. Not the best, but had some interesting twists and turns in the plot.

I dropped it because I couldn't get over the r*pe scene.

Yes, I read the tags, and the comments. Yes, I've read some dubcon and noncon before. I don't care for it, but I can handle it, and I understand that it can contribute to plot and character development.

Spoiler

In this case, it was completely gratuitous. It had no impact on the story, the characters barely showed any response. And, it wasn't vague. It was slapped in your face noncon, with the author pulling out all possible plot devices to make it as r*pey as possible. The rapist goes mad and doesn't believe it is reality. The victim is drugged, and then the system steps in and removes his free will. He's not allowed to control his body, including expression, and is unable to speak but remains fully aware.

Tl;Dr Don't read unless you are 100% comfortable with gratuitous r*pe scenes <<less

Gotta say, I found the MC of this novel very annoying JDKSOS I ended up quitting because of him and his obliviousness. Well, that and the constant knives. No, to be honest, Having SVSSS to compare this novel to, I think I read this with a bit too much bias. TUT I’ll try again another time, but I gotta remember that this is a very slow burn next time, and that the MC is an utter idiot. There’s also tons of inconsistencies. So the reading experience isn’t always particularly smooth.... more>> Gotta have patience when I check it out next time. Otherwise I may just end up quitting while I’m ahead again. No rating for now cause the bias is real T.T <<less
