The little mermaid has been reborn.

In his previous life, he trusted the wrong person, was sold as merchandise, and suffered a miserable fate. But in his new life, on the night he was drugged and almost met his end, he struggled to escape and ended up in the arms of a man.

“Please save me…”
Those beautiful eyes were filled with mist, the corners of his eyes were alluring, and his soft voice was full of pitiful pleading.

The man, however, had a dark and brooding expression and stared at him for a long time.
Only when the little mermaid was almost rendered helpless due to the effects of the drug did he finally say:

“Alright.”

It is said that the blood of sea monsters can heal psychological trauma. So, the ruthless and stormy Marshal, who had been battered by mental storms, brought a little mermaid home.

Everyone thought the little mermaid’s fate was to have his blood drained and his body discarded in the wilderness.

But later, someone saw…

In the pouring rain, the Marshal held an umbrella by the car and bent slightly. No one knew what he said to the person inside, but they saw the half-opened car window being rolled down, and a fair little hand reached out and fiercely pinched the Marshal’s ear, as if venting frustration.

However, the Marshal, known for his cruelty and ruthlessness in the Empire’s star domain, just smiled and then leaned down to give the person in the car a kiss.

Very few people knew that the song of a mermaid was the true remedy for healing psychological trauma.

In his previous life, the Marshal was the only one who extended a helping hand to the little mermaid. So, in this new life, he must ensure that the little mermaid avoids the predetermined path of death.

— This time, the entire universe is helping me to be with you.

*In both lifetimes, they only have each other, and the little mermaid is reborn.
*Our couple is destined to be together!
*Definitely sweet, trust me, bookmarking this will not be a bad idea!

Cute novel, loved the interaction between MC and ML. I was a bit disappointed that the novel is less brain dead sweetness and a lot more plot heavy than expected but it was good (had specifically been in the mood for fluff lol). Overall a good novel but it seems that the author rushed the ending... there were parts that were set up it seemed to continue with the plot that were never addressed, and we get no ~happy married life~ after everything is done just a timeskip summary paragraph... more>> of the after effects of the bad guys demise and some generic ‘during this time the marshal got married but there wasn’t much media attention’ line. Quite disappointing.
I think the last part of the blurb is wrong/misleading as the ML is not reincarnated/doesn’t have memories of his last life so although he does do his best to protect MC the implication of ‘he failed to save him last time so this time he’ll protect him’ doesn’t quite apply...

Spoilers involving MC first life:

Spoiler

MC met ML in the first life when ML infiltrated the laboratory, he was the only one who tried to help him experience sunlight and stuff but in the end they died together in a failed escape attempt.

Spoiler MC and ML meeting:

Spoiler

they actually met when MC was young (and sorta blind) when ML had an accident and was seriously injured. Teen ML crash landed very wounded in the sea and MC dragged him ashore, ended up living together for a while. MC would catch fish and ML would grill it for him! MC gave him an important scale and wanted to stay together. In the end ML suffered a mental riot and lost his memory of MC, MC couldn’t follow the soldiers who appeared to try and save ML so they separated for 14years.

memories spoiler:

Spoiler

I was reading mtl so may be wrong but my impression was that ML never fully recovered his memories of when he was saved by MC. He realized from clues that the person who MC saved was likely him, and that it was actually because the soldiers had seen MC as a mermaid helping him that MC was targeted for experiments.
As for ml’s first life, he had a small glimpse of his own memory of seeing the MC in the lab but didn’t recover his memory of the first life until the very ending

plot points left unfinished:

Spoiler

the parents. During the novel MC had an interaction of sorts with his mother, revealing where she and the other mermaids were and some other world details. They were stuck in a rift because they’d been driving out some dark force that was causing issues (linked to the drugs) and the dream ended with MC shouting that he’d find h them. Yeah he doesn’t that never gets brought up. MLs mother is also technically never confirmed dead, it’s repeatedly said that she disappeared in a space rift/crack and just never been seen again BUT with how it said that MCs parents were stuck in a crack and then saying ML mom had also been presumed dead in one it was just sooo setting it up for them to be found together : ( ( (but no they all poof no more mention.

[collapse]
going back in time would I still read the novel if I’d been told that the ending seems rushed? Tbh I would; the plot was nice and I liked the interactions between MC and ML that we got, especially the lasssttt part of the book just... sigh very nice for me. <<less

I quite liked it. It’s interesting to have a human/non-human pairing that didn’t immediately have both or one of them have the magical ability to understand one another’s language. The language barrier between the MC and ML made it more immersive (not to mention funny).

If I were to complain, it’d be that the conclusion of the major antagonists were a bit underwhelming. It happened kinda off screen and summarised in a few lines, which was less dramatic than I expected it to go.

There’s also a very big loose end that... more>> I wonder if the author forgot about it
Spoiler

A while back, the MC had a vision with his late mother and it seemed to be implied that the MC would go looking for either his mother or the “mother-planet” of the mermaids (MTL wasn’t so clear). And I don’t know if it’s the translation or not but it also seemed to imply that MC’s mother was trapped somewhere? The MC definitely promised that he would go looking for his parents but the MC and ML just had an HE honeymoon and that’s where the story ended. No other mentions happened again after those chapters.

It’s not a bad novel if you are into the right things.

Anything with interstellar mermaids is basically the same, you get the same tropes, mysteries, characterisation, etc., and this one isn’t different.
Everything is just passable if you aren’t a big fan of this kind of cookie-cutter story, it’s neither worse nor better than others.

I’ve made it to nearly 50 but can’t say that I really enjoyed it, I’ve dropped it mainly because of the execution and some smaller things that are pure cringe.

Everyone always assumes MC and ML have something going on, even when they are just walking next to each other.
There’s constantly the cliché “someone comes in and catches them in a compromising pose” that was actually completely normal.
MC gets called “a small animal” every few chapters. I have no idea how I’m supposed to take that while simultaneously being expected to see MC as super OP.

The biggest downfall is, how boring it is.
Third person omniscient can cause that, especially when the villains are included and the foreshadowing so blunt that the writer could very well just outright tell you what’s going to happen, because you can easily put it together anyway.

Try it if you really like interstellar mermaids and aren’t in the mood for anything complex, then it’s an okay novel.
