Pretty good story for the most part. Not super original.

Basic guys gets isekaid into a fantasy world and becomes the coolest most super ultra coolest most powerful coolest guy that ever was. Can you tell how cool the MC is? Jokes aside not a bad take on the isekai premise.

Nice that he doesn't go crazy on having a harem but everyone seems to love him so that might change after what I've read.

But to be honest I tend to like isekai like these. The translations dives off a cliff around... more>> chapter 170ish but pick up at after about 188. Good enough for me to keep reading. <<less

Great read, binged it in a few days despite the long paragraph for each chapters. I love the MC and the surrounding characters. The plot is amazing and creative, the novel is amusing to read.

I’m quite shocked seeing how many people disliked this novel considering it’s quite popular in other website, I totally recommend it if you like professor MC.

Good read. Definitely overall better than the author's 2 previous works. Though there aspects that The Novel's Extra is still superior in. While still enjoyable, the last quarter of the story still leaves much to be desired.

Would have enjoyed it better if only the epilogue's translation wasn't so infuriating. The last 5 chapters literally felt like 10 different translators were translating a single chapter. Names were changed literally every sentence. It felt like the translator was trolling or something. Format changed for some reason with "-" or quotation marks randomly... more>> indicating dialogue. Pronouns were inconsistent and it was very difficult to distinguish any character. Really hope someone else translates the epilogue so at least readers who finish the story wouldn't feel an unnecessary bitter aftertaste.

Majority of my review is just me ranting about the epilogue translation. That's how infuriating it was. Overall recommended to read if you like the genre and if you're looking for something kinda fresh. <<less

My first complaint about this would be the translation. Of course, this is no fault of the author so that’s not gonna deduct my score, but I would recommend not reading from circle translations, as it looks like they copy and paste from other sites. There’s not even a next or back button!

Now, on to the characters and the writing. The writing is outstanding, little details and plot points that the author makes memorable; he remembers most of them and does an amazing job wrapping the story up. His use... more>> of (what I like to call) foil characters are amazing. Instead of most novels where they’re solely there to complement and show how much superior the main cast is to other people, these guys are reusable time and sometimes even lead to foreshadowing and clues.

The characters are well written as well. At first, Deculine
Spoiler

is this character that doesn’t see much growth. His baseline personality is evil. No doubt about it, he is that “young master” trope villain. But when his soul is mixed with Kim Woojin’s, all his best attributes are combined with Woojin’s best. His stern but sometimes kind personality, his psychopathic level of mysophobia, and his soft moments where one soul overtook the other for a moment made this series as fun as it was. If it were any other protagonist, this story would be a 3.5/5 or a 4/5.

[collapse]

There’s a bunch of other complaints people have on this story.
Spoiler

One, how every good relationship the main character has all gets ruined. And... yeah, I’m a bit peeved about it too. But, they served as a great way for characters to get character growth. It also showcases how tough his character is, being able to power through all their hatred even knowing he doesn’t deserve it. Two, how s*upid the female cast were. Other than the Epherene, I think the rest were pretty reasonable. Sylvia is this genius wizard who is in love with Deculine but doesn’t know that Deculine mu*dered her mother. It’s a reasonable love/hate struggle within her mind, because she loves Deculine but she also loves her mother. The way it gets resolved is grand, but it felt a bit off for me. The way she forgives just doesn’t feel perfect for me, and I guess it was written that way on purpose. Julie was my favorite to read through, probably because it was the only one without a ambiguous ending. Others complain that she was just like a child, and her older siblings just do all the work for her. But, that’s all explained in the story. She never wanted to be the leader of the Knight Group, she was just forced into it by Deculine. Of course she would be incompetent at the job, and she was still doing a good job. She just wanted to be a guardian knight. The slow paced romance where she starts falling for Deculine turned immense hatred, to her eventual realization, redemption and death made it beautiful to read. However, character-wise, Sophien was my favorite by far, and nobody should call it s*upid (other than it being a bit creepy because it’s technically grooming). She doesn’t understand her own emotions because she lives hundreds of years dying over and over again, and lost most feelings other than boredom and hate. Watching her slowly develop emotions and denying them was delightful to watch. Lia was my least favorite heroine because she was never really built up. She’s like this one “important” character that never really became important. Those four are the only I would consider heroines, Allen (Ellie) and Yeriel don’t count because Yeriel is his step-sister and it’s purely sibling love. Allen doesn’t count because after the first 120 chapters, she wasn’t useful for the story anymore. The other characters have reasons for acting as s*upid as they do, but Epherene is truly just a idiot character trope.

My only complaints are the things the author forgot/written out. For example, Drent. After his redemption arc and usefulness to the story ran out, he just disappears. We don’t know what happened to him as the story moved beyond the school to the imperial palace. He just ceases to exist. We never got to know his character, he was just one of the badly used foil character. Then, we should talk about power scaling. It just really doesn’t make sense sometimes. Allen has the power of space, she can teleport and literally split people’s bodies apart. She’s practically unbeatable. Yet she still somehow lose a fight. Deculine rips apart thousands of monsters without break (without the Yukline bloodline buff) but loses to some random altar knight. The knight chasing after his car was probably Syrio or Jogan, but I’m leaning towards Syrio because he was fast enough to catch a “Midas Hand” buffed car. Deculine already analyzed all his moves a arc before Syrio was even revealed to be evil, and he somehow still lost. Deculine one showed enough skill to humiliate Julie, his fiancée and one of the greatest knights in the country. Of course, that was a duel without mana, but his greatest capability is literally being able to analyze everything. We never see Deculine fight for real. It’s either they die instantly, surrender, or Deculine manages to talk them out of it. We never get to see how strong he really is. My biggest complaint is that we never got to see anything about Rohanalk, the concentration camp. The main character built it, spent half a arc sending people there, and then it was never brought up again except once. At least show the readers what Deculine planned for the demon blood. It was supposed to be a scheme where he can protect most of the demon blood from immediate execution, but we never see what’s inside. We get one comedic scene where Ellen is complaining to Carixel in it, and that’s it. My final complaint though, is the beginning and the ending. The author never tells us how they were transported or how the world even existed. I remember one person telling Kim Woojin to look outside, but it’s clear “Rain” was behind it. It’s a question we never get a answer to, and it’s a bit frustrating. Rain was the primordial god, so there’s two possibilities. She was a god that somehow made it to Woojin’s world (by killing themself) and lost a bit of her/his powers but was still creating worlds; or she was a game script writer that has the power to create whole universes.

[collapse]

Despite my many complaints, it’s still a 5/5 read for me. I never considered it like a harem because Deculine never had a speck of romantic interest in anyone but Julie until Sophien. It wasn’t even real love, he was just considering that he might love her if he really, really tried. Deculine is a who would rather break than bend, and that is proven throughout the story. Other than his souls going through some hiccups while merging, he is forever a constant that won’t change even after hundreds of years. However, it’s not that he doesn’t have a soft and sweet side, just that there’s no-one drawing it out of him. Like how he gets prouder and happier to see Epherene mature and succeed. There has only been one time where his mind has been changed. After sacrificing his noble self for the continent, after being hated the said continent, after clearing up his lies and misdeeds to everyone he loves, after suffering for years, after experiencing death thousands of times, after the love of his life died, finally, The Villain Wants to Live. <<less

Im still early in the story but I'm hooked already. Its a very interesting concept, and the MC isn't a total douche like

most korean novels, which is nice. The first two chapters were rather wordy and full of concepts that should have been introduced later once the reader has some investment in the world and characters though. But it is detailed and nice compared to a lot of other novels which are rather lazy with their worldbuilding.

I have to add that the translation is completely broken from 173 onwards.... more>> Its just utter tr*sh, the worst sort of awful MTL you will ever come across. Names vary wildly from sentence to sentence, Julie

becomes Yuri becomes Yulie becomes Julia. Deculien becomes Declane and dicklyn and EPhrene becomes ifrine to iphrine, and the worst part is some of these are names of other characters. Its completely illegible, the sort of thing google translate would spit out, except worse. Its unfortuante but

its just not worth reading after this point. I don't know if it gets better, but seriously you are missing about 20 chapters at least. <<less

I liked it.

Like previous books, the author is very good at world building. Good lore, good magic system, and good world building.. But then, like previous works, all is left at backseat and the book is turned into a kind of soap opera.

If you like reading about characters more than the bigger picture, you will like this one. Be warned; the author is widely criticized for not treating his female heroines very good. His MCs are generally calm, reserved, and weirdly every one of his heroines start somehow by misunderstanding... more>> the MC and having conflicts with them, and mostly end up falling in love with them in the end. It's not a consolation or anything but I appreciate that MCs do not treat females as property or playthings.

The MC in this is very, very OP. You do not feel any tension but I liked that he was an older person before and after compared to most transmigrated MCs who are old before transmigration but suddenly turn into teenagers. Also, the plot armor, cheat of MC is pretty OP but we see that he is constantly working hard to improve himself.

One of the things I most disliked in this book was the character Julie. She is written as a heroine in a bad book.

Spoiler

She is very honorable and just, and is against anything she considers unjust. She never considers the consequences of her actions, never stop to think why someone acts in a certain way or what makes them act in that way, just that if it is just or not. And she is written as just this single faceted person only does these things and nothing else.

She is a knight and is very driven to protect people. But she is not interested in anything else. The world is written as the magic is premium and wizards are at the top. Everyone, wizards included are involved in some form of politics to protect their interests or gain things. But not Julie. She is only interested in walking her path. She has a knight order but never thinks about how to gather support, or maintain her order. She never even checks for corruption in her order. Everything is managed and handled by her family or MC.

I felt she was very spoiled and entitled while reading the book.

This novel is a hurricane filled with tiny, little, sharp blades that’s continuously shredding your brain and heart.

It’s good and it hurts...

you have been warned

... more>> If you enjoy stories about:

  • time-travelling, time paradox, time loops, regression, time magic and kinda anything time related, I think you’ll like it.
  • magical academy (most part of the story is revolving/ related to the magical academy, it is still sort of relevant at the later section)
The story can get very emotional by making you feel very sad but it is written so beautifully that makes it really good. There’s a harem tag but it’s not really harem:

Spoiler

they all falls in love with the MC but none of them actually got together. The MC have 2 true loves but they also never got together, the MC let them both go.

Overall, I greatly enjoyed this novel, highly recommend! <<less

The story seems much better than in earlier novels by this author. It has an interesting detective setting with many long arcs and good characters.

Alas, those side arcs later become boring and windy, while the characters seem to become more and more sociopathic because of these painful side stories. Rather long side stories, let me tell again. Apparently, all these moments will be lost in time.

It is an interesting read. I like that the author did not shy away in making weird problem/arc like

Spoiler

locralen arc that deals with time and other time related problem. I wonder how he would resolved it though.

[collapse]

I like that it is messy, because life is messy and not organized that problem a has to be finished for problem b to start. Though the timeline is not quite clear.

Then what I dont like from this:

1. The very first problem of the novel, is the writing. Author did not elaborate many things that is relevant to the story.

Spoiler

Kim Woojin's background was not explained at all at the start, we don't know if he was and orphan or have any important relationship beside his ex Yoo Ara. But suddenly at the Yeriel arc it was revealed that he had a sister that passed away so that's why he can consider Yeriel as his sister. There are many instance like this so it seems as the author just write something out of the blue.

[collapse]

The author omit many important things that make it seem like a mess even if I think the author has all the related information in his head

2. I dont like how the MC which is Kim Woojin is just swept away by Deculein's characteristic. After transmigrating there is not much distinction between Kim Woojin and Deculein and its not because Kim Woojin replace Deculein that Kim Woojin as a character was not mentioned much. It is Kim Woojin that is constrained by Deculein so much that we don't know the original Kim Woojin at all. Kim Woojin did not strugle at all when the body he is inhabiting still act like Deculein. He did not refuse too much when the body love Julie, and many other things. We don't even have a clear point of merging between Kim Woojin and Deculein because we don't know about Kim Woojin at all. I don't think there are many difference if the MC was Deculein from the future that have knowledge of the game instead of Kim Woojin (Except the plot related to modern Earth)

3. This still related to the first point, the writing is lacking. The author use many lines to explain about magic and its theory but did not describe enough about the character and its surrounding. I can't even recognise a character if you put several drawing in front of me because of so little description. The setting needs more description too. I think this would be easier to read if it was a manhwa.

Just a recommendation, I recommend 'tr*sh of the Count's Family' if you're looking for novel with good description that make you feel you are in 'this' world. For this one the manhwa is a bit disappointing in portraying the world, but its still good.

Overall this is a good read with many potential but I will wait for the final chapter to review it again. <<less

I'm drawn to the MC's character and his seemingly logical approach. I also enjoy the MC's struggle to level up. However, I find the perspective of some of the other female characters super annoying (especially Epherene, Sylvia, Yuriel and Julie). At least, the emperor Sophien and Allen are not annoying. There seems to be a potential for a harem to be developed, which is annoying. So far, the harem is not fully developed yet, but once it is, I'll probably reconsider reading more.

Great, this is the only word I can say; this LN/WN is really worth your time. The story is neither blend (which you may drop after a little or some time later) nor it’s like a roller coaster (which gives you sweet and sour taste), It’s rather well what can I say hmmm interesting. The plot line in itself is good and the intersection, links and dialogues between each characters and this nice world building all takes it to another level. And of course all of it doesn’t matter much... more>> if our MC turns out to be a ret*rd but no the Author made out Protagonist (just like in Novel’s Extra no no he made ‘him’ even better in this one) a legit ‘badass’.

P.S. Thank you Author-nim to again come up with a great work. <<less

This is a fun novel where the MC ends up as a mid level villain in his game. He's much more logical and reasonable than the original villain, but the original villains mannerisms and attachments are still in his body leading to multiple mis-understandings. The original villain had some pretty serious limitations that the MC can mitigate due to being better/less of a douche. Still kind of a douche, though, in a fun way!

Overall it's a well worn setting but really well done. The writing is tight, the tone is... more>> on the more 'grounded' side but there is a decent amount of humor and action.

I'm enjoying it quite a bit.

It is a bit more serious than 'The Novel's Villain' that is also being translated on this site. I'd check that out too if you like this. <<less

This story is a fun read until a certain point. I would say the story starts falling off around chapter 110~ with something like a forced development. The earlier part of the story feels like a different story than the latter half.

Spoiler

The regression feels forced, to set the motion of tragedy that didn't need to be tragic. Sure there is an explanation why she can regress but it is weak, just like the reason why she has an unbiased hatred for an entire race.

[collapse]

The latter half of the story is fine, with a bit of foreshadowing and something that can be called a plot. But the story is split up into stages for characters to develop, which some of these stages become irrelevant due to poor problems like emotions, illogical conclusions, faulty reasoning, or all of the above.

Spoiler

The biggest example would be Julie. She has several stages dedicated to her and yet her character development is overshadowed by her unreasonable logic that the Deculein is "evil". Sure, he made her think that way, but his surroundings should speak louder than her twisted thoughts on the main character himself, so she should have some reconsideration on certain thoughts.

You may think she is reasonable since Epherene shows her evidence on what he had done to keep her alive, but if she is that reasonable to begin with, why does she think he is evil when she trust his disciple? The earlier intelligence shown is clearly a lie.

Julie is straightforward and honest character. She never once question anything but why is she questioning his actions over everything else. She isn't the scheming type so I get why she won't get it, but to have any logical thought override with "he's evil" is really poor. Those traits don't make her simpleminded, but they might as well add those traits in.

Which makes the finale she appear in so much weaker. I don't hate Julie, but considering everything that led up to this point, this is so forced, I really hated it. How convenient she can control her ice powers so well after being resurrected as a doll.

[collapse]

I have a lot of criticism for this story when it comes to the actual story and plot, like some of the unsolved subplots and some guns shown but not fired kind of stuff. But I really enjoy reading this story until the very end, I hated that part. I admit, I even cried since I am a reader that loves living in the moment without thinking too much of the contradictions in the story. It didn't hinder my enjoyment and personally I would only recommend this story if you love tragedies, even if it is a poor one at that. I may have lived in the moment but even I thought the ending was terrible.

Spoiler

The hanging subplots are stuff like why did Rain even bring them into that world. It seems like a problem resolve by simply talking??? And what is even the glyph messages future Epherence gave to Deculein? So many questions left unknown because either the author forgot or they weren't anything at all.

Character Story... These quest never made sense to me since they haven't been resolved at all. Deculein mentioned that the "Family" quest haven't been clear, so these kind of things exist and cease after being mentioned. It is fairly distracting. It would be nice to see someone clear a Character Quest like Luna, going into that virtual world and finishing the character quest Kim Jin-Woo. It would make an interesting reaction.

If you are wondering what about the telekinesis shown by a dead man (I can't remember his name), it was used in the finale. That big telekinesis was that.

[collapse]

There is much more issues I have with the story, but those are personal gripes and not an actual criticism. I really did enjoy the story even after chapter 110 but I felt like the author was spinning whatever he felt like and pushing a rough patchworks of ideas into this mess. The ending is just a sloppy effort to end the story and I am never satisfy with it.

I had to wait for two weeks to past in order to give a more impartial opinion on the story itself. I was really tempted to give it a three star with how dissatisfied with the ending and I felt cheated for all those moments to build up like that, but I learned I am pretty bad at giving reviews when I finish a story recently.

TL;DR: It is a fun story but a shitty ending. <<less

Well, I'm not really much fan of an overly reliable protagonist which seem to have everything in his grasp, which is this novel protagonist. I hardly pay any attention to romance plot too other than feeling like, in this novel, the romance just need to have so many twist and settings that feels a bit too much for me. But well I still enjoyed it a bit.

The adventures in this novel is quite interesting in my opinion. A bit repetitive but still good.

It was a very good read overall. The characters were enjoyable but the action and story wasn't the best since the power level was too vague and involves some complicated concepts (regression, time alterations, separate dimensions, etc.). My thoughts on this would be divided in 4 parts going into the novel.

The first part where the focus is more on the academy was very good with entertaining interaction between the characters (particularly Sylvia and Epherene), though I still enjoyed reading the second part some drama ended up being way too drawn... more>> out and too much that it becomes frustrating to read at times (the parts with Sylvia and Julie in particular), the third part in which most of the character arcs concluded was also very good (my favorite would have to Sophien's) but then the fourth and final part was when it started being ridiculous. It felt like it crammed way too many complicated stuff that made me barely understand what was happening. It also felt way too drawn out for a conclusion that was obvious imo.

Spoiler

So the end of this is basically the MC tries go all Code Geass ending and become the most evil existence to bring peace or some crap. Unfortunately it was very poorly executed. Then there are the last few chapters that could be considered the Epilogue in which the heroines saved the MC from killing himself by messing with time.

[collapse]

In addition, it felt like the author is too afraid of making the MC end up with one of the heroines.
Spoiler

Author pretty much sealed the fate of the three heroines that the MC could see as a romantic interest from being in a relationship with him in the last arc.

Sophien (implied to be loved by the fusion of Deculein and Kim Woojin's personality) died due to interfering with the rules of time/world trying to save MC.

Yoo Ara/Lia (who Kim Woojin loved) is "observed by the world" so she can never interact with MC as the "world" would correct the alteration that MC is currently alive.

Julie (who Deculein loved) who has the feelings of love towards MC has died (at least the one holding these memories), leaving only a younger version of herself with no recollection of all the times spent with MC.

[collapse]

Though the ending was a bit messy, it did manage to give a proper closure to all the major characters so I'm content with that. It is at least a lot better than the author's previous work that did some major characters dirty, left a lot of loose ends and have characters that were severely underutilized. <<less
