Yan Heqing awakens.

One second before signing the substitute contract.

It turns out he was a substitute cannon fodder in a book.

In the story, he served as Lu Muchi’s substitute for Bai Yueguang for three years.

He was slapped by Lu Muchi’s little lover he held in his arms, sent by Lu Muchi to seduce a competitor and almost forced, and had his neck choked by Lu Muchi almost to death.

He l**ked and groveled willingly, enjoying it, and fell deeply in love with Lu Muchi.

In the end, he voluntarily donated his eyes to exchange for Lu Muchi’s Bai Yueguang—his twin brother’s brightness.

He and his twin brother were abandoned and sent to an orphanage since childhood. He gave up the opportunity to be adopted by a wealthy family for his brother, who became a pampered young master.

He was adopted by a childless couple, and after a year of relatively peaceful life, his foster parents miraculously had a son, plunging his life into hell.

Encountering Lu Muchi was the executioner of his life. Lu Muchi couldn’t get what he wanted from his brother, so he chose him as a substitute.

His foster parents saw the money, happily sold him to Lu Muchi.

Under Lu Muchi’s mental and physical ab*se, he fell in love with Lu Muchi due to Stockholm Syndrome.

In the end, he sacrificed his last remaining value—his eyes—for his protagonist brother and was hit by a car while trying to save another protagonist, Lu Muchi. His life ended at 21.

What kind of joke is this?

Yan Heqing’s has begun his hunting.

His Abusing foster parents’ family.

His love-brained brother who took away his eyes.

And—

Lu Muchi, who trampled on his dignity, destroyed his dreams, and took away his life.

……

He will not let anything go.

His eyes, dignity, dreams, and life, he will reclaim them all.

So we have:

-Main shou: Stockholm doormat in his previous life. The moment he learned about the plot, he instantly transformed into a cunning, intelligent, and cold-hearted person, 180-degree change from his old self. He is incredibly beautiful and charming despite severe malnutrition. He has outstanding academic achievements despite being ab*sed and having to work part-time while studying. He is multi-talented, best bartender (how the f a minor could work on a bar and taste wine to be bartender??), chef, and any f--king things the author can think about.

-Main gong: uncle... more>> of the antagonist Gong, a super-gigachad who is so chad that even the biggest tycoons in the country are terrified and want to kneel down whenever they see him. He is calm, handsome, and well-mannered, but always appear with a wall of text describing how people fear him and how powerful and handsome and chad he is. Have zero libido to everyone except the main shou, even when his identical twin brother was naked on his bed.

-Antagonist shou: The MC's twin brother. 18 years old, s*upid, cries a lot, and goes on hunger strikes every time he cries. The only way to get him to stop crying is give him candy. Babying him is people around him daily quest. Tbh, villain Gong who can idolize his personality in a romantic way may be mentally pe*o.

-Villain Gong: A successful alpha male, but less than the main gong of course. In love with the antagonist shou is reason why he is h**ny and wants to r*pe MC all the time, even at school or in front of others. Is described as a fearsome man by author but is read as a brainless water buffalo by reader. Bro behaves like mixing of a grumpy, p*rn-addicted incel and an edgelord who watch Andrew Tate's contents all the time. He's so s*upid that the author can't find any logical reason to explain why the intelligent and talented Tom Sue MC loved him in previous life other than Stockholm syndrome.

-Plus oher s*upid cartoon villain characters.

My patience has run out. It may get better later but life is slowly slipping away from me every time I have to scroll through a wall of text describing the beauty and charm of the main couple and the s*upidity of the villain couple every five minutes. <<less

I never write review, this is my first time so bear with me. First off, I was reading in the chine website with online translations so the number of pages were longer so I don't know exactly how many of the actual chapters I read, but I might have completed around 196 pages of the 284 page book (I am planning on finishing it, I will update if my mind changes)

I likes the book, at first. The reason I have a problem is the novel or the characters, rather... more>> it is the author. I loved the MC and ml. The MC is a survivor. He survived ab*se and rebuilt his whole life without going back to his s*um lover of the previous life. He is independent and does not depend on the ML to get his revenge. I loved that. After reading so many books where the MC goes back to the ab*ser, this was a breath of fresh air.

Moving on to the things I didn't like. Everyone, and I mean EVERYONE, falls in love with the MC. They fall for his looks and cold and indifferent personality. Even if the person hates him, in a few chapters, they start to fall for him and think of him day and night. It just feels forced in my opinion. Also if you love novels where the MC and the ML are overpowered you might love this book. I just felt like the MC was too perfect. He is a top student, gets up at 6am everyday, top class bar tender, a great cook, absolutely gorgeous, great at playing games, learns everything the first time and on top of it everyone loved him. I felt like if I was the twin brother who is the villain here (I haven't read the full novel yet, so take my words with a pinch of salt) I would have felt jealous too. Like imagine you have a loving family and great friends and someone comes along who just does everything better and everyone who liked you and your long term crush too falls for him. The family loves both the twins equally though. What the twin did was harassment to the ML eg. Keep on going back even after he said no, so I wont dispute that, and he wasn't a good guy in his previous life, but man, everyone needn't fall for the MC you know?

In the end, this is just my opinion, you can give the book a try, it is a great novel compared to some of the tr*sh lying around. If I change my mind about the 3 star rating in the future, I will update it. <<less

Truly a Gem!! This isn't the typical "substitute" story, MC doesn't allow to ML to take actions on his behalf, everything/mostly is through MC's effort, on 1st half. The narrative is exceptionally crafted, delving deep into its characters and rendering them to have 3D personality. The love story is also not abrupt. The author's skill stands out as she vividly portrayed the contrasts and comparisons: in the bookstory & the current events, as well as the MC and his brother. While the MC grapples with hardship, his twin experiences love and affection. It will really break ur heart seeing those scenes. However, the MC is calm and doesn't feel envy. While his twin due to being spoiled can't stand his inferiority despite having everything.

Anothrt thing that captivates me is the unpredictability of the MC's actions, as I don't know his true goals and thoughts. The MC's mastery in orchestrating events is truly commendable. Even when faced with challenges to his plans, he exhibits remarkable adaptability and resourcefulness.

PS. Conflicted about the ending of the storyline. Probably due to my own preference. On the other hand, wish for more extra of "ifs"
Spoiler

I feel bad to MC's brother. That brother is spoiled and selfish but this is NOT a rebirth. But this could be a parallel world. I hope MC allowed or convinced his brother to treat his eyes at the end. But reading the extra chapters of "sunrise", I don't know anymore..

Emotionally driven, great romance, epic revenge story.

MC all that suffering came back and his Rebirth was epic, he's schemes against all his enemies , his white eye little brother, the most s*um gong in the original novel. Sending them to hell one by one. He's always look handsome attracting all attention. He's genuinely nice, but he will never forget to calculate all those who seek to harm him

ML 12 years older MC, always cold on the surface. But he's warm to his friends and mum. Ofc family issues in wealthy... more>> families. But once he spice it up with MC. The chemistry explodes

ML is so powerful but MC will do every plan himself. This was interesting to read because MC playing mind games so well.

This a fluffy little story hidden behind revenge. Description of the novel is accurate and as is. The first half is more on the steps Heqing (MC) took to take revenge on his previous life while the latter half became more mellow with the addition of the romance and the revenge nearing its end.

I would say I love this one as the first chapters really took me in, to the extent I stayed up late even though I have class the next day. The revenge theme is really there and... more>> Heqing is meticulous with his plans that I admire his methods. It's a revenge well done.

The romance is also cute! It started out real slow as there's other intentions hidden behind it but it's great. They gradually learned to trust and love each other. The romance is actually also a selling point to me.

The ending and extras are good and executed nicely. I didn't expect some of the extras to be so cute, especially the if's scenes. Overall, I recommend this to everyone intrigued by it. <<less

Five stars. The first few chapters give an impression of a cardboard story about rebirth and revenge, with typical s*upid villains, a highly intelligent, highly capable MC, and a cold & distant ML who has zero personality outside of work. Surprisingly, rather quickly this impression is proved to be incorrect. Instead, the story shows us how with a lot of patience, hard work, and some luck a person manages to extract himself from a horrible situation. Dispite willingly isolating himself from others, Yan Heqing's kindness and readiness to invest... more>> his best efforts in everything he does wins him the respect and appreciation of most people who come in contact with him. <<less

I read this with MTL, and it's readable. This story has the most 3D, realistic characters ever. Their emotions feel so real, and I genuinely rooted for them while reading. Very underrated novel, the pacing was well done and I read it all in one night.

I love how smart and capable the MC is, how he uses his knowledge of the future to change his fate. He isn't completely OP either. His changes cause butterfly effects, leading to some characters appearing earlier than expected. The ML is definitely OP, yet... more>> he doesn't interfere with MC's plans. He lets MC do his own thing, allowing him to get his own, personal revenge. All while monitoring and protecting him safely. I love that ML doesn't intrude on MC's boundaries, he realizes that MC has trauma. ML knows that MC approached him with hidden intentions at the start, and yet he still came to love him. Their relationship is so soothing to read about. They both don't state things too explicitly, especially at the start, and yet I could feel the level of care they have for each other.

That's another thing I really appreciate about this novel. It's the level of care that the author put into the details of the story. There's a lot of repeating items that appear in the story, such as the song Wellerman, the Lake Balkai, fishing, etc. The echoing of these elements really made the novel a lot more captivating and unique. Not only that, the author was able to describe the events in the story extremely well. It was as if I could visualize the movements of MC on a map.

I really encourage you to read this novel if you want something a bit angsty, sweet, and with satisfying face-slapping. This is one unique gem. <<less

Let me start by saying: Lin Fengzhi is absolutely horrible. And no, I don't buy the excuse that he's "just a spoiled rich kid who doesn't know better."

Some readers try to defend him, saying he was simply pampered and sheltered by wealthy adoptive parents, that he's not inherently a bad person. But that argument falls apart completely when you look at what he actually does.

This is someone who burned down his own house and killed his parents — and yes, it was an accident, but the way he handles it... more>> afterward is unforgivable. He knows the truth. He knows Yan Heqing gave up his chance at adoption so that Lin Fengzhi could have a good life. And how does he repay that sacrifice? By forgetting about him. By living in a warm mansion eating crab and seafood every day while his biological brother freezes in a cramped apartment, wearing thin clothes, going hungry.

Lin Fengzhi knows that Yan Heqing was adopted by an abusive family — a family that literally tried to sell him. He knows that the man who wanted to buy Yan Heqing was his own social circle friend. And he says nothing. Does nothing.

And then — then — when he finds out that Yan Heqing is dating Lu Lin (the man Lin Fengzhi has been obsessed with), he completely loses his mind. He threatens su*cide if Yan Heqing doesn't "give him" Lu Lin. He manipulates, he cries, he plays the victim. The same brother who gave him everything — a loving family, a comfortable life, a future — and he repays him with selfishness and threats.

Even his adoptive mother, who loves him unconditionally, almost dies because of his actions. And when she finally confronts him and tells him "I'm not your mother anymore, " you can see the shock on his face — but not real remorse. Just the panic of someone who's never faced consequences before.

Lin Fengzhi is ungrateful, cruel, and deeply selfish. He had every advantage, every privilege, and still chose to look the other way while his brother suffered.

The Bright Spots

The novel isn't all darkness, though. Chu Ziyu is an absolute delight — funny, loyal, and full of personality. His backstory with Shen Huaiyu, revealed in the later chapters, is genuinely beautiful and touching. It's a lovely contrast to the main couple's more angsty journey.

And speaking of the main couple — the extras are like a healing balm. Seeing Lu Lin travel back in time to save young Yan Heqing, or meeting him again at 18 without all the trauma... it's exactly what readers need after the emotional rollercoaster.

Yan Heqing had an unbearably sad childhood, and the novel doesn't shy away from that. But it also gives him a well-deserved happy ending. The author clearly understands that sometimes readers just need to see the protagonist win — and he does.

As for Lin Fengzhi? He gets what he deserves. Not in a revenge fantasy way, but in a realistic "actions have consequences" way. And honestly? That's more satisfying than any punishment could be. <<less

Out of all stories in here, personally this is one of those that doesn't deserve a negative review.

MC had been through hell in his first life, and even in that life he already stated he had problems socializing because he grew up in an abusive environment and often misunderstood for being too good-looking on top of being too smart. Whatever "character change" he has in his 2nd life isn't out of the blue. It's obviously accumulation of his own personality and the terrible experiences he had in his short life.... more>> Please remember he was just 18 when his life fell apart in his first life. His frontal lobe isn't even well developed yet at that age.

For me this is a well written story. Characters aren't one dimensional, even the side characters you can feel they have their own personalities and not just there to move the plot along. I love the fishing metaphors, it's so apt. The progress of the relationship between MC and ML keeps you on your toes throughout the novel. <<less

MTLed all the way!!! But would love to read it again with a nice translation.

All I can say is that everyone is like crazzzy, the MC's twin brother, the abusive ML's nephew (which is the first ML od the first timeline)

The ML is also quite possessive. MC omaygaaddd MC, I cried. He finally had a happy ending. He was so pitiful during the first timeline. Omg for the ab*sed and the head of everyone full woth water in the first timeline.

But MC is so good when he plotted everything.... more>> His suffering starts with his twin brother, everything because of him. Haysssss good riddance, I tried to sympathise with his twin brother, but can't in the end.

I really like the endings of all the villains they deserve it! Deserve!!! <<less

The ratings for this novel is like a rollercoaster ride. It varies anywhere from 0 to 5 depending on who read it.

Yes, I do agree with a lot of the points mentioned in other reviews. The MC did a 180 as soon as he 'woke up'. The biological brother and the ex from the past didn't do much to him in this life and so on and so forth. But, MC has always been an intelligent person, he did get into a prestigious college. He has seen a lot of... more>> life, he grew up in Yan household and still made it. So, he is a person who is both intelligent as well as a survivor. It was only under the authors pen that he got into a substitute relationship.

When it comes to Lu Muchi, the MC did refuse him several times, bit still LM kept coming back and threatening him. Almost r*ped him, it was only because MC mentioned his twin that he left. So, I really don't think LM doesn't deserve his ending. Plus his arrangements with Cheng Jian is disgusting.

As for the twin. I feel that in the begining MC really was hoping for a better relationship with him. It's only after LZ suggested he 'go back to Yans as they were his family' that he started slowly giving up. LZ's ending was something LZ could gave altered at any point before he completely disappointed his family. Instead of feeling grateful for the family's love and his brother's sacrifice he was focused on his inferiority complex.

Approaching the ML, getting his attention and using him, like the ML said 'You were all alone'. He did what he needed to survive.

All these are points everyone is conflicted about.

I just think this novel is worth a read. You can make your on opinion after giving it a read. <<less

Revenge story where MC doesn't ask ML for help. ML also doesn't go around snooping info about MC as soon as he got interested in him. ML really respect him like if he want to pay back the money he will let him. I like the flow of the story between MC and ml. There isssss a 12yrs age diff. But with how MC act, calm and mature, I only remember he is 18 bcz the story remind me xD

Also I think Mc' twin brother was the way he is... more>> bcz of the way he was rasied, spoiled rotten, have never been told "No", no reality checks. Everyone that had wronged MC got what is coming for them.

After chapter 120, it would be the daily life and side cp story. After all the revenge is done you WILL feel empty. <<less

I agree that the story is a bit too long, in the middle I also got bored.

MC sows a web of vendetta around everybody who hurt him in the past and would have harmed him in this life too. Most of the time he plots against people who haven't done much against him, yet. But the author doesn't let the reader contemplate much about this situation because it always turns out that these people are evil and caused harm against others already. The case of Lu Muchi and twin-brother is... more>> a bit different, though. The author puts Lu Muchi into the crematorium but at the end, it's not salvation what awaits him but hell. In the previous life, he was truly evil but in this life, he is bad, yes, but he could've had the chance to change. Honestly, he only needs a good psychologist to get rid of his anger issues and learn how to live a good and normal life. Meanwhile, although twin-brother seems to be spoiled and selfish, not too bright and can only throw some temper tantrums, it's just a facade, I think he is the more serious issue because his delusions don't stem from his naivete and wishful thinking but more from some mental illness. The best solution would've been to send him to a psychiatry. Unfortunately neither family thought about this. Their end didn't give me a fulfillment feeling.

But ML's friend side story was really good, it changed my feelings to the positive side. <<less

One thing that made this novel different with other novel is that MC's revenge is long term and not instant. Troughout the story you will feel annoyed and impatient coz MC didn't defeated the villain as soon as he's reborn or cut ties with them at once. He went with the flow but set traps for them. Even after he's reborn, MC wasn't OP at all. I am so glad that he found ML who love him unconditionally.

But there are several things that bothered me reading this novel.

I.e. The orphanage... more>> arrangement. How can they put disables children (the one who can't walk) on the 5th floor?!?!?! What if there's fire?! Isn't it easier if they are on the first floor?! Even after ML helped to install an elevator. It's still difficult to rescue them of something happened.

And the villain is bad bcs maybe he's childish and his dad/grandpa pampered him all his life. But I don't know how an elder of a distinguished and rich family act like the Lu elder. He's so childish and petty in solving problem. He didn't have intelligence and wisdom of a successful man at all.

And for MC's brother. He's unreasonable, selfish, and stoopid but I still feel pity for him, idk why. I think that he's just need harsh reality check or for someone to scold him harshly. <<less

The story isn't bad but isn't good. The plot is getting dragged too much. I think this novel actually can finished around 80s chapter. But the author decided to make the story plot progressing slow. I finished reading this novel around one or two months because I'm getting bored by the plot sometimes. From what I remember, the ML even start to like MC from around chapter 70s. And that means so many times (chapters) got wasted.

The villain is MC twin brother. But he is so s*upid. His character is... more>> someone who is innocent but like to make trouble for others and clueless + spoiled. The ML too repeatedly getting "harassed" by him but all he done is nothing. I mean if someone I don't like is always disturbing me, I will ofc take action. But the ML did nothing. Even though the villain likes to call ML phone with different phone numbers, send things and make a fuss in ML office, etc.

Spoiler

The one who made MC parents died is MC biological twin brother
