10/10 100% would recommend

It's a sweet story, lovely and with decent character development. The FL and the ML complement each other very well, where she was almost sociopathic he was almost too altruistic, both learned of the other and even adopted the other's traits; she learned to be compassionate and generous, and he learned to be firm and to put himself first. They balanced out each other very well.

It's a slow slice of life, romantic and cute. The "villains" are a bit annoying, but they are cleanly taken care... more>> of eventually.

It's the first time I have despised a 2nd ML so much, so just a heads up. <<less

When I saw that the reviews keep saying it was boring, I was suspicious. And sure enough, my hunch was correct. Guys, this is a slice of life novel! Again, this is a slice of life. It's meant to be chill. So sit back, make tea and relax. Enjoy a minimal conflict romance, chill business simulator and light handed face slapping.

I would say this is very similar to Assassin Farmer but it's Doctor Farmer.

Edit: I updated the tags to include slice of life, so everyone knows what they're getting into.

Novel not recommended to read.

Dropped within 6 chapters.

MC is a super survivalist from the apocalypse who should’ve died and crossed into an ancient Chinese dynasty setting who is OP strong, beautiful, and good at medicine.

... more>> ML is a not so bright 22 year old loser with scumbag relatives a plenty and one nice grandpa.

MC slumming it at Ml’s house and being amazed by everything including the fact that ML is nice. ML gawking and blushing at MC and just letting her stay with him.

Just mundane boring villager stuff and lots and I mean what feels like 80% of the novel is just ML’s scumbag relatives being scum and mooching off of him. ML is fine with this because he likes being taken advantage of because he’s s*upid.

-300tril/10 No point in reading the story.

P.S. The ending is just garbage. Really avoid it. Not fluffy. <<less

Spoiler

How could a mother speak to their child like that, knowing that they are in some ways responding to the words? She’s from the future, knows so much about medicine, there’s no way way she doesn’t know about pre-natal education. Yelling and all round being irritated at your child while they are growing inside of you and responding to you just seems incredibly cruel. She’s somehow “nice” to a bunch of ppl now? She can be nicer to her unborn child.

Basically I have looked over lots of things for this story but at this point I’ve just gotten quite sick of it. I can overlook lots of little things to rate the quality of my reading as a whole but yeah I’ll be dropping this now and I don’t think I’ll be picking this book up again. <<less

Don't drop this... read more before you judge a book.. me personally almost drop this as well.. its boring at the start, especially the ML is too kind while the FL is a bit unfeeling or so I say. But when I got to the point where the ML rejected decisively the other girl around dunno if its chapter 15..i clap.. literally clap... while my mom just about to enter my room.. ahahah.. and so therefore, I continue reading... and it gets interesting by far..i mean.. if you like face... more>> slapping stories too much dont read this kind of novel w/c include farming or poor/peasant family 'coz it will definitely annoyed you. This author is really good. I cried buckets so so beautiful. I wanted more but nah every story has an end 😭

The ML is so sweet. My type of ML. He is, yes very annoying at first bcoz of he is really good that he is bullied but the FL taught her a lot. I think it's one of the reasons she transmigrated.

Typing is not my cup of tea so I won't say more but if you like slice of life, a little of family drama, doting ML, OP FL,... more>> cute children then this is for you! If not don't read and rate low bcoz it's a pity if others with the same interest will not read coz of the low rating! Have a good life all! Fighting! <<less

I enjoy this author's historical work since family drama doesn't take up too much of the story.

The drama with the MLs family members

helps push the plot and although it separated them temporarily, it helped bridge the gap between their differences in personality (her being overly indifferent due to her environment and him being a really kind person)

Kinda sad with the ending though. Although death is a natural and it comes with old age, it still makes me sad when they both died and when Shiyi chose to commit su*cide after her husband died (due to old age). Hey, that’s love. Death will not make them part😭.

Although the story is quite good and I like it.

But what I don't like about these female leads is that they all know medicine and all of them know traditional Chinese medicine, not a single one know modern ones that can't be done without an equipment. It is always so convenient, get some herbs on the mountain and then brew the medicine, always simple and easy.

And if the female lead's original world is being threatened by zombies and they have to make do with the nutrient solution as they can't... more>> grow crops and the water is polluted, they why the hell did she study traditional to Chinese medicine if no good medicinal herb is to be found.

Even if we consider the plants being mutated that can grow without water, then they might have also developed some special abilities to protect themselves; so how in the world that female lead managed to get good herbs? Did her whole unit just used to catch herbs?

And one more thing, If the world was being threatened, then the some original records might have been lost, so where did she learn all that??

So although the story is good but I quite don't like these female leads who are able to cure just anyone with nothing but their silver needles. <<less

Currently dropped at chapter 10. Not sure will pick it up again or not.

Really tried to keep reading but it just feels flat. At times it even feel like the plot doesn't make much sense like how the villagers didnt question much of FL sudden appearance & different outfit, ML relatives attitude to FL suddenly barging & disrupting their dynamics/conflict etc.

This translation seriously needs an editor.

Read this if you want something lighthearted. It's a slice of life through and through.

Sadly, Shiyi lost her personality as the story progress. Fitting more into the mold of an ancient woman. The latter part of the novel became just "telling" how stuff happened in a faster pace.

... more>> The writing started average and degenerated to below average. You won't be satisfied with the ending.

In the beginning, there are more depth in Shiyi and Yang Shinfeng's personalities. They also grew and learned how to get along with each other. But after that, the story is merely telling what they do with their lives and not much on their growth as people. All in all, this is the life of perfect people living perfect lives. What a pity because it had wasted potential. <<less

I know people have mixed opinions about this but I personally enjoyed it.

If you are looking for the usual transmigration novels plot about hidden identities and political intrigues.

This novel is not for you.

This novel focuses more on character development and slice of life. It shows the gradual change of both the MC and ML throughout the story. There’s minor conflicts and little to none misunderstandings. The romance is calm and sweet like a slow burning candle.
Overall a good light hearted read.

Spoiler

I do admit that I enjoyed the beginning more, after she got pregnant it was a bit annoying how she interacted with her unborn child, like surly as a person who has medical background you shouldn’t poke your stomach and insult your child while their not even born.

There are two things that turned me off from this story from the early chapters one more than the other.

1. The most important turn off is the author note that says that the Mc's character will turn cute, while I don't dislike cute characters I went into this story with the expectation of a strong female, personality wise if not physically, and it is indeed what you get in the first few chapters, turning her personality cute is not character development it's an overthrowing of the original.

2. The settings are... more>> all over the place. She's never had food because plants can't be grown but she knows and practices both Chinese and Western medicine both of which require plants. She can just waltz up to an ancient town in weird clothing spout an unlikely story of origin and everyone is just fine with it not to mention she says she will stay at a man's place and no one stops her or gossips about her because of it. Honestly these problems wouldn't be that bad if the characters lived up to it but they don't to the authors lack of common sense shows.

It's not terrible enough to rate it lower than three stars but it certainly isn't anything more. <<less

It's a bit boring in the first few chapters. I really hesitate to continue reading it but still tried to finish the book because I love this author other story.

The story's okay. Light, fluffy, little bit of drama. Small misunderstanding that is easily solve and the MC reconcile after and they become lovey-dovey with each other.

The thing that I didn't expect is the ending. I think when I read the last chapter my reaction was" that's it?"

Just I didn't think they end up like that. I couldn't even cry.

Thats all!!!

A relationship that's a bit more "realistic" in the face of a transmigrated distrustful post-apocaliptic female that isn't timid and has her own strength and independence but still falls for an old pour, hard working fellow in a backward society.

I really enjoyed it, it has a hard earned fluff and face slaps and a bittersweet ending that I had yet to see after so many such stories.

The story is a bit cliche, but what I love more is the characters. Especially MC's character development. ML is also very good, I felt sorry for him especially in the first part of the story since MC was quite detached. It felt like the usual trope of FL suffering of unrequited love is reversed here and ML is the one who has unrequited love for FL first hahaha.

The translation also got better as you read more which shows the improvement of the translator! Thank you so much to NotLucia... more>> for translating! I really enjoyed reading this from start to end! <<less

the MC personality but end up reading on due to author note at the end of one of the chapter stating that the MC personality will change due to ML

[collapse]

I end up liking it more than I thought since it was pretty interesting to see how ML interact w/MC

Spoiler

I notice that a few reviewer stating that MC abuse her unborn child and stuff but I think it more of her way for teasing her kid plus she only patted her stomach. The only time I didn't like how she interact with her kid is when she said she can stab him with her finger. I mean that is really not something you will said to a kid even if it was just a joke.

[collapse]

Also we have to take into consideration from her point view of where she come from. I mean she come from an non-loving environment of the post-apocalypse and that she was raise in a research lab most of her life.
Spoiler

Maybe that why I feel like she treat her child more like an younger brother then as an son.

Overall

I feel disappointed because I really liked the Pheasant Makeup Artist. But the details of the doctoring are woefully vague with only the general gist thrown in. For being someone from an experimental lab with modern medical knowledge, she just uses taking the pulse to somehow diagnose diseases. The herb knowledge + farming medicinal herbs was not explained or expanded at all. It was just given like a summary. The MC describes the various herbs she needs the ML to find from the mountain. There is no further explanation.... more>> The author will give the MC general modern medical knowledge and these things are deemed good enough for the story like CPR. I expected something more fancy. I also, reeeally disliked how the author really dives into the idea that the son is a fatty sthick. The connotation of fat = insult is deep in my bones so every single time the MC calls her unborn child, fat, little fat man, little fatty, fatty, I keep imagining the body of an obese person with icky massive folds of fat. And since she kept saying little fat man, I kept thinking of the baby as an obese adult man. It's a baby, why keep calling it a man? Also, they know being too fat is a negative because they keep saying they are too fat and you won't get married! I also don't like the decision to make the mother and unborn child in her womb so combative. The author even made it so that the unborn child seems to understand what is happening outside. So when the MC scolds him in the stomach, the baby will kick. Then, when the baby is born, this combativeness continues. And the baby is smart and cunning enough to be sly. And he seems to understand things as if he were not a baby. So this made his baby actions incredibly spoiled which made me dislike him. There was this whole thing about how the kid loves to fake cry to get what he wants and the MC sees through that and scolds him. This whole dynamic and the choices the author made are just weird. Why make him so unnaturally smart and why include this combativeness between mother and child? Furthermore, I’m not a fan of letting 3-year-olds pretend to do adult things like hug other kids and kiss them like adults. Or pretend to drink wine and be so proud of it. It's edging into pe*verted territory for me. I don't understand why the author added those things. It's not cute, heartwarming or funny. Other than that, I am unsatisfied with how Xiao Shitou was handled. He was six years old and the couple agreed to raise him. So, why is he considered a brother instead of a son by the couple? At first, they were acting like parents but then he became the uncle to their unborn child. And then, he just fades out of the story after the child is 3. I thought since he was adopted, his development would also be focused on but we only get a summary at the end. Basically, this story is really very web novel-ly. Not really real.

Writing/Translation

The translation I read is from Shanghai Fantasy. The translation has many pronoun errors but is otherwise perfectly readable. There are some pauses when the pronouns switch but I can easily substitute in my head. I am a bit confused about how the pronouns weren't fixed because the translator seems to really read through the story whilst translating. So shouldn't they easily notice the wrong pronouns? Eh. There are also some footnotes at the bottom. The writing is pretty simple and straightforward, with almost no complicated idioms for being located in Ancient China. No awkward sentences either because it's so straightforward. What you see is what you get.

Pacing

The pacing is a bit eh. The beginning was a little slow when the story was setting up the romance, okay for the 2/3rds in the middle of the story, then, it was jumpy at the end where there were a lot of timeskips.

Plot

We follow the MC's stay with the ML for a few chapters, gets subtly seduced by his goodness and his food, breaks with him to move to the city by herself as planned from the start, realises she really misses him and likes him, comes back with lots of money. Then the fun business part of the story begins until the annoying pregnancy and the addition of the weird mother-son relationship spoiled the story for me. After that, the business expanded which was mildly interesting. There weren't many details except that they did it though. Then, the ending was kind of rushed. The extras summarise the youngest daughter and the son. The last chapter was about the couple dying of old age if you wanna skip that. I really don't like those scenes. Can't we just get a happy ever after into the sunset? Why put in the end of their lives?

Characters

The MC was a refreshing change from other similar novels. She's strong and thinks things through. I also like that she knows medicine. My only issue is her weird, combative relationship with her son. For the ML, I think he is adorable, especially at the beginning. Then he became a husband, and he no longer appears to have any conflict to deepen his character. He just became that husband s*ave. The side characters are just props for the couple. They don't feel real other than to give the couple someone good to befriend. Especially the friend of the MC from the city. They became friends way too fast on the premise of 2 meetings because "their outlook and temperament are the same". I’m like, where? How? What is the same? The lady sounds exactly like a rebellious rich lady while the MC just wants to make sure her shops succeed for her family. What is the same? They haven't talked about their beliefs at all, so how do they know they are similar?? *Rolls eyes* For the son, I found him too unnaturally smart. It's too off for me. Also, when he was unborn and as a baby, his intelligence made me feel that even though he's just a baby, he knows what he is doing and is acting like a spoiled brat in front of the MC that I wanted him to just go away. I wish Xiao Shitou was the son instead. He's cute, smart, has a bad past and they could have built on that. Too bad he got sidelined later on.

The villains were meh. The face-slapping was so mild and not satisfying. The young master suitor has so little presence. After the main brush off, he takes it resignedly and goes back home just like that. No more drama when the couple sets up shop in the city. For the second aunt, after she gets muted for four months, she comes in to try to let her son be a teacher at the school, gets rebuffed mildly, and never appears again. The eldest son that was studying just appeared once to look down on the ML at the beginning and then never appeared again. I was looking forward to some drama there for some spice but nope. We don't get any conclusion for that side of the family in the end. The ending for the youngest daughter was too quick and out of the blue.
