this novel is great I highly recommend it. Whats puzzling to me is that even tho MC is acting as a lovestruck girl and this is clearly a slice-of-life kind of novel I KEPT CRYING!! The story has comedic undertones but it can't hide the melancholic lives MC and women in the imperial harem have to live by that I keep shedding tears. In the end, the ending felt bittersweet and I enjoyed it thoroughly !!!

Amaaaazing novel! I stopped reading it last year but I’m so glad I picked it up!! Translation is awesome and I’m always in such a romantic mood whenever I see their relationship:))) gives me hope :’) almost done with it and I CANT WAIT FOR THE ENDING😭😭😭

This is good stuff. I liked everything about this novel.

1. Realistic characters

There is no love at first sight or cheat system. Only a slow, gradual character development with enough fluff along the way. The emperor is realistic in his mannerisms yet still somehow likeable despite being a scumbag. This shows the skills of the author (and the translator!!) in portraying a flawed character in such a way that his flaws are compensated through his responsibilities, privileges and other factors, while in other novels I'd end up hating the same kind... more>> of person. The MC is a normal person, no cool inventions or golden fingers. She tries to make the best of her situation in a manner similar to HTBAVW but I liked this MC more, maybe because we see a lot more of her emotions and the author makes us feel closer to her.

2. Plot

It's simple yet complicated, a lot of schemes and foreshadowing. Something is revealed and turns out it was hinted at 10 chapters ago, which gives a nice flow to the novel, as if the gossip you casually heard ends up being key to an important part of the story. Its palace drama but instead of keeping suspension for 20 chapters then getting someone faceslapped and everyone gossiping about how "unexpected" it is, we get an actual satisfaction of people being brought to justice through smart means. It's rare these days to find a novel that's not just reactions of people for half the chapter!

3. Romance

The romance isn't linear or predictable. This is similar to 1 but what I liked about the romance was its unpredictability. You almost never know what the emperor is thinking so you have to judge his actions through what the MC sees. This makes it interesting and confusing, as you stay wondering about the developments.

4. Translation quality

Very good, nothing negative to say. Perfectly understandable most of the time and the translator often goes out of their way to add explanations to difficult terms and adding pictures to food or items people that are not from that region wouldn't usually understand. This made the experience really great and I'm thankful for the translator who works to bring out chapters of such great quality for free for us plebs to read. <<less

The story is beautifull, the plot is perfect and the FL is a realistic girl. I enjoy it so much.. This is so far in my Top 3 of novel ever.

THIS IS WHAT I WANT!!! AN MC WHO DOESN'T GIVE HER HEART TO THE EMPEROR. She understands her position and uses it well. She also the hearts of men and use to her advantage and made the Emperor's care for her. I love how how she doesn't fall in love and she will not in the future!!

If you looking for romance, don't, there's no romance in this story.

Author describe man and woman want realistically.

I feel tired reading this till the end, because she need to pretend and be careful of whatever she did, in her entire life.

She also not the type of seeking trouble and arrogant, she always knows her place.

It's a very interesting read. The FL is very practical and handles the situation really well. She also has very good control on her emotions. If you are looking for cliche romance... then it's not your cup of tea. I really like the author's way of writing. A huge thank you to the translator!!

Really enjoying this well translated story with an intelligent MC and interesting plot twists (which makes the once a week posts so painful 🥺) But yes, our translators actually have real lives and some work on multiple stories to give themselves a mental break.
