Only just at the start of the novel but its already super interesting! Translation is solid and the story is great. Love that the MC and ML are already together so we get to see their married life from the start, and all their interactions are so cute.

I meant to rate it as five stars instead of four. I rarely write reviews but I really enjoyed stumbling upon this novel and how immersive all the details are from characters to how ghost purifications happen.

The MC isn’t overpowered and as mentioned before, the ML being present as an active character instead of hidden is a great plus. Usually you wonder who the ML is and if the ML shows up, then the ML is just a quiet plot fix to save the day kind of inclusion.

I discovered this just when the weekend is ending, now I have no choice but to read after a busy day and its night time, the interaction between MC and ML are so sweet, but this still creeps me out when I look at dark corners in my room, I noticed a smudged dirt on my ceiling, it looks like 2 eyes and a mouth, scary...

When the novel says horror, it is indeed horror. Many times did I look at the corner of my room because I became paranoid and I'm someone who's used to reading horror novels at 3 am in the morning.

The writing is great overall and the translations are also superb. The plot twists are something of beauty, like you'd think it's finally over but it's actually so much worse.

The author is also great at reminding the readers about the icky age gap. While I usually have no problems with enormous age gaps between human and non-human relationships, the fact that ML and MC got together when MC was 16, and the fact that during that age, MC saw ML as an older brother/father figure makes my stomach curl. ML too keeps emphasizing that MC is too young and I can only say 'Sir, if you think so then maybe you shouldn't have so much s*x with him.' They only had s*x when MC was 18 but still. Inserting the submissive wife kink too.

Another thing is the contradiction which is about

MC saying that his life is important since his parents and teacher sacrificed their lives for him but MC is extremely reckless. This is due to the fact that he knows ML will come to save him (he even admits this because many times, ML was pissed about this exact behavior) and I have seen only one arc where ML didn't help (1st arc and even then MC could only do it because of ML's influence) and having MC solve anything on his own, with his own power, without any assistance from ML. It's being adressed though in the recent chapters translated so I can only hope that MC will have any shred of independence from ML before the novel ends.

Depending if the author will make the MC and ML have the chararacter growth they desperately need and wherever the plot is heading to, my ratings will change accordingly. Will probably wait for translations instead of mtl because the translator/s are doing an amazing job. <<less

It’s a good read, they are solving horror cases so it’s about horror crimes but not really scary

I like the 1st Arc (cause MC was badass for me there) and the 3rd Arc (because I like the pair there)

As for the characters, even the side characters have interesting personalities.

MC is a strong-willed and brave person but contrary to a review I read before that said that MC is being reckless with his life — I don’t think that’s the case. Their job is just dangerous that’s why he finds... more>> himself in a pickle at times but he’s also strong, sometimes the enemies are just stronger than him so he needs ML’s help but he’s strong.

I do agree though that he becomes stronger and more independent in solving difficult cases in the future without relying on ML’s help.

As for ML, he has too many secrets — even from MC. I know it’s probably for MC’s own good as well. I hope the reveal is worth it!

Cons:

  • It’s not really scary, even has a “smooth sailing” vibe for me so I didn’t find it as thrilling as I anticipated
  • The Celestial Master rankings is too confusing for me
  • I can’t feel much of the chemistry between MC and ML. The romance part is showed because they are married, do hugs/kisses etc. But the ‘feelings’ sometimes feel lacking for me. Or maybe im just bitter LOL so take this bullet like a pinch of salt
