    • A story where THE SIDE CHARACTERS ARENT ONE DIMENSIONAL AND FORGETTABLE
    • A story where the RELATIONSHIP ISN'T SPONTANEOUS AND DEVELOPS NATURALLY WITH HILARIOUS PLOTLINES. A RELATIONSHIP WHERE BOTH SIDES HAVE QUALITIES TO OFFER

Fantastic story! Collision and integration of two opposite worlds, underworld and technology, in countless humorous situations, creating a fun comedy.

The society is changing, the number of materialist is growing, but it doesn't cease the workload of a Hell organization respinsible for handling ghosts, spirits and reincarnation. Don't want to be reborn as a pig and disturb the living? You're arrested and forcefully reincarnated. Your relatives haven't burnt you a single set of clothes? We've got you covered. And remember, don't pass through the walls, use doors, we're in human world... more>> now. But they're barely floating, after all ghost money don't work in the world of the living and also they need someone who will help them to ease the workload. After all, computers and cellphones are helpful, but it's still not enough. They need a programmer! Scrapping the budget they hire Yu Zhengdu, who doesn't only become the source of their rapidly rising income, but also the pillar of great storytelling.

MC is a lively, hard-working young man, his worldview as a materialist gets shattered, but he adapts quickly integrating technology with underworld, his only concern is their broke-ass boss.

ML takes the role of a stoic, otherwordly handsome man, who is actually a Ghost King. His proud demeanour will leave you speechless, even when he shamelessly gives you the barcode for payment. We're a Hell organization, we don't negotiate.

Totally recommended. I'm having so much fun with this novel. Even if events get dark at times, the author doesn't allow you to get depressed and changes the mood completely, so I really appreciate this positive view on things. <<less

I FRICKING LOVE THIS BOOK!!!

It's so good and ticks of all the check boxes for me.

PLOT

The plot is refreshing with the out of the box idea of a socialist hell. The story is consistent and very balanced with enough humor to make me laugh out loud in numerous occasions. All the cannon fodder's are very forgettable such as the author completely drops everything related to the character after their 2-3 chapters, though there are some characters which appear twice but that should be guy who I consider kinda like a... more>> BOSS cuz he is the only one with evil intentions who has been mentioned till now.

This plot is a fresh new take with great writing and great translation that captures your attention immediately.. (trust me I just binge read till where the translation ended and my eyes are hurting now QAQ)

CHARACTERS

Honestly, these guys have to be one of the best characters a book could have. Each character (ghost or person) has a vivid personality which the author has captured perfectly. I love the MC and ML and all the side characters.

MC is a top programmer who is the first living person in Luofeng and is honestly a great guy. His quips with the ML are hilarious. He has great adaptability considering that he works with ghosts and has strived to create a socialist hell which would be fully automated by 2020 (Story started in 2018).

ML- ML is... Unique. He is a gaming addict Boss of a broke company who was once the Ghost King who acts like an elementary schooler by calling people tr*sh in servers and other times acting as the most elegant man you have seen with cold indifference.

Of course ML and MC are both handsome - So handsome that ML gets stronger by uploading selfies in weibo.

What I love is how the relationship progressed - ML acting like he doesn't care and thinking that MC is pursuing him but he was actually not and then getting angry if people comes to MC to flirt saying MC may be having a SO soon - It can't be explained in a few sentences my friend.

the relationship progression was so good and all the ghost characters are also really great - I don't know how to express myself that all I can do is sit and scream in my mind '"READ THE DAMN BOOK".

Because the Plot is great. The characters are fresh and stuff you have never seen before and most importantly the story is not cliche.

So please Do you a favor, Do me a favor, Do the world a favor - GO AND READ THE DAMN BOOK!!!!

This has been a funny and mostly lighthearted story so far with occasional creepiness.

The story is about Hell currently being a company in the human world that manages reincarnations, captures and deals with troublemaking ghosts, etc. Our MC, who is a programmer, manages to land himself a job in the company as the only human employee and quickly adapts to life among ghosts. Thankfully, the MC deals with all the supernatural occurrences calmly and without being cowardly about it. He also thinks fast on his feet and finds unexpected ways... more>> to deal with situations. He is competent in what he does and doesn't boast about it even when needled. Overall, he is level-headed, but in no way cold. He behaves like a normal compassionate, sensible human, which is a bit rare to see in c-novels these days.

The MC is often joined by his boss, the ML, and goes through various supernatural situations that are always solved in surprisingly simple technological ways. It's hilarious to see the reactions of the bystanders and the way their world views shatter before being rearranged due to something the MC or ML casually do or say.

The ML is a powerful ghost king and has the respect and fear of all ghosts. He is also dirt poor despite being the boss of his company, which is a nice twist. Though he may appear aloof and arrogant on the outside, he actually has a somewhat adorable and prideful character that he openly shows to the MC. I love how he is with the MC and all their interactions. As of chapter 39, there has been no significant romantic development between them (though the ML already shows signs of attachment to the MC), but they have developed a friendly rapport. Personally, I think it's good to see them growing closer before romance can come into play.

The side characters are all funny yet well done as well. It's good to see how even people who once opposed or looked down on the MC and ML end up becoming their allies or come to admire them. It's a pleasant change from stories where anyone who even looks at the MCs wrong gets face-slapped to miserable ends. Though there is face-slapping here as well, it's done without being petty and doesn't go too far.

Both the original writing and the translation are done very well. I like that there is some actual information given about the world's background and relevant things at appropriate times. It adds so much more depth to the story.

Overall, it kept me thoroughly entertained with the characters' antics and some of the situations. I highly recommend it! <<less

Truly worth it.

I saw someone saying they dropped because ML is immature despite being 1000 years old and there is no explanation.

I'm a rude person so I'll say rudely... The commenter is either blind or MTL damaged their brain.

The explanation was

He was sealed in chaos relam so he wasn't exactly socialising during 1000 years to turn into those 'mature' MLs.

He is mature when comes to important stuff but petty in other situations. Its his charecter.

People can love black bellied MLs who are being petty behind others back but can't stand someone being petty on others face. And dropped the book.

As said in book... Human nature is truly astonishing... <<less

Just finished reading this and I'm totally like it very much!

I feel sorry for the MC but I'm still laughing so hard about his miserable worklife. Please forgive me, Yu Zhengdu!

Well, I can't say much but the premise story kinda interesting. The story still light so you don't have to use your brain for thinking so much. Just enjoy the comedy for now, it's really funny and interesting!

There isn’t a plot per usual for these types of novels, so the real problem is that the romance just isn’t landing for me. It could be called a slow burn, but it’s definitely not a well written one. There just isn’t any chemistry at all—probably because the characters are just caricatures.

Unfortunately, the reason they are caricatures is because the ENTIRE story is about face slapping and the netizen reactions. It was fine at first, but it grew old fast. I can’t really recommend this one if you’ve already read... more>> a lot of Chinese novels. This one takes the normal amount of netizen crap and quadruples the amount of it. <<less

10/10 worldbuilding, excellent cast!

This is a good, non-horror, fluffy, humorous, non-angsty read:

  • Extremely impressed by how thorough and GOOD the worldbuilding was. It's not surface level, the ideas are really well-thought-out and fully carried through to make the environment and backstory feel very real! (And very funny!)
    • The whole premise of the story is based on putting a modern tech twist to ancient/traditional/supernatural beliefs.
    • For example, how do you stop a demon from going through lightning tribulation? Lightning rods!
  • Great foreshadowing - a lot of small events and characters are brought up later with added significance (or for extra humor)
    • Very enjoyable cast of side characters with tidbits here and there, just enough to make the company feel full without overdoing it
  • The ML is quite cute and hilarious (a bit naive, clueless and tsundere)
    • Even though ML is a CEO, he doesn't follow the classic mold that much (other than his good looks) so it's a breath of fresh air
  • The MC is very OP and a lot more calculating than the ML
    • Which makes for a really refreshing dynamic
  • This story is very comedic and doesn't try to take itself too seriously. That means, the epic plotline is gonna be broken up by tsukkomis and oneliners. Angst and drama is practically non-existent, humor comes first.
Very relaxing and enjoyable story and pretty good translation. Many thanks!

It really is an absolutely hilarious story that starts off a tad slow, but is absolutely worth it. Both MC and ML are very cute together and have a wonderful dynamic. MC's very down to earth and endearing while the ML is equal parts hilarious and a tsundere. While they get together quite fast, the build up does take quite a long time so while it's not quite slow burn, it's not instant love either. Plot wise, it's a pretty light hearted book despite the horror-sounding premise. It's heavy on... more>> the comedy and most of it is modernizing Hell with the convince of technology.

While it's absolutely a treasure, it's easy to see how it can get boring super quickly when binging. Yu Zhengdu is absolute OP; one of the most sought after programmers in the nation, top student, super popular amongst his peers, etc. While it's crucial to the entire story that he is OP (after all it would take multitudes of explanation chapters and tons of characters if all the tech stuff was not all handwaved away by the skills of the MC), it can get absolutely tiring to see time and time again that XYZ sneers at MC for whatever reason only for Zhengdu to hold up his phone like "oh so I made an app that does that instead lol". Not to mention, while it's hilarious to see people getting face slapped in the face of technology, it can get boring since almost every scenario is the same formula.

Even so, overall the story is absolutely fantastic and I highly recommend you give this a shot. As a light hearted comedy it's fantastic and the both the plot and main characters are refreshingly original or uncommon. That said if you were looking for an actual horror story, turn back, absolute nothing scary about this story at all. <<less

One of the best slice of life BL stories out there!

This novel is highly recommended if you are looking for: slice of life, comedy, some action/drama but nothing overly serious, OP main characters, interesting subplots, quirky side characters

The entire novel is a hilarious ride with many sweet moments between the MC and ML. The romance between a human and non-human is not forced at all, and the romantic development is very smooth. The side characters are also memorable and contrast very well with the main characters. The banter between the MC, ML, and side characters is heartwarming, fun, and relaxing to read about.

Overall: This is a chill read and I wish there were more extras! I can never get enough of the main couple, they are absolutely adorable together. <<less

It is not my cup of tea, but it is a good comedy from what I have read, if there were no labels that suggest romance or the development of a love relationship, it could easily pass as an excellent 4-star comedy and even reach 5 with some adjustments or depending on the taste of each one, but I feel that pairing the MC with ML takes away charm for my taste, lowering the quality of the story in this regard to a 3. If you only like the BL... more>> is a 4 for sure, but if you care about developing a healthy relationship when the story can afford it then you will have mixed feelings like me, because the story is great but the little details about the couple bother me a lot, and I would change the label from yaoi to shonen ai because even Where I am, there has been nothing but friendly hugs and pats.

I hate the characters that are a couple and both emotionally dense but that are not dense for other topics, one does not speak and the other assumes, this is not mathematics where negative by negative gives positive, 88 chapters and I do not feel the romance of MC to ML as ML does it and it would not be so annoying if he not only thought about rejecting before thinking about how he feels about it, someone else has to make him reflect and even so it takes him to accept the situation until he correctly notices ML's attitude towards him, But before saying something about it, ML discovers that MC was going to reject him and decides to walk away childishly, and MC doesn't say anything as if ML's feelings at that moment did not matter, treating him only as a tantrum, it is true that ML is, but if he cared about his feelings he would not let such misunderstandings occur, ML can be a total tsundere regarding MC, but he pays in every way the feelings he thinks he receives from MC, he could justify that MC stopped lad or ML's feelings when he didn't know he liked him even though he was taking advantage of the obvious favoritism that he gave him, but now it's as if he took ML for granted as always, I'm a firm believer in reciprocity and the MC professionally It is very good but personally it is not worth more than a friend.

I don't speak it well, but I want to verify that I didn't misunderstand anything in MTL, it's easy to read but I would rather make sure of it because the story seriously I liked omitting the implicit romance

I will reissue my comment when I finish reading, but for the moment I will give it 4 stars because the love relationship is unnecessary for the comic dynamics between MC and ML, if the story improves from where I stayed I will upload it to 5 but I feel it will not happen because it is a couple that is romantic but does not warm your heart, they are more a fine * claps on the shoulder *, which makes me feel sorry for ML, someone so old and unable to experience good love <<less

There is story based on Tao's philosophy to mock Taoism and promote some socialist theory. If you can bear that propaganda again and again in story, it's fun to read until later volume. Especially volume 70 onwards. But I am abit curious to know why writer always talks about socialist but all topic leads to capitalism.

I think writer wanted to demonstrate how of some organization nowaday practices. In story, deleting the past life file from current life folder is good enough to settle this issue. Unnecessary to go until relesing fake article. Instead of sealing the secret, it's obviously manipulating whole world (esp to nitizen) not to accept past life & reincarnation and shaming & targeting Song. Later parts, too much out of story line and blindly try to brainwash reader. Like reeducation camp, red flag, so on. Whole story line was finally destroyed by those last propaganda. Openly attack other country as well. God bless... whole 100 over volume story crumble. <<less

This is one of my favourite novels definitely top 5 maybe even number 1... there's something really refreshing about how the author reimagined and recontextualize 'hell' in a modern corporate, capitalist world... it's really such a great read every chapter!! Honestly I treated this as sort of a collection of one-shots that gradually built such an interesting world, eventually I couldn't help but be invested in this world they built!! Some parts definitely aren't one-shots, and there's times where I get really giddy seeing stuff that happened in earlier chapters... more>> being brought up again. It has that feeling of seeing an extra of something you like, being expanded on. Honestly it's a really fun and light-hearted read, I don't think it's TOO scary or anything -- rather, it's quite hilarious and curious in a very very good way!! I can't recommend this enough <<less

How does Hell survives in our "anti feudal superstitions" modern world? It goes digital of course! This leads to a lot of silly encounters, a lot of humour and a lot of wacky characters.

Comedy is the strong point of this novel, as is the magnificent cast of main and side characters.

The world building is great, the author clearly has a lot of fun (a bit too much fun maybe? it does get a bit repetitive) coming up with ways to mix modern technology and fantastic elements. It always has a... more>> shocking, hilarious, and yet oddly "realistic" result...

The plot... doesn't really exist. It begins a bit like a mystery of the week, then the middle drags on with too many "oh look another fun way to take something modern and apply it to the fantastic!", and the end has a world ending threat that retcons some of the things established at the beginning. But it always stays very light and funny and not serious which makes it snappy enough to be very enjoyable.

The romance is the pinch of salt of this novel. There is very little of it but it gives flavour to the whole novel. It's sparked by misunderstanding but build on trust. The way MC deals with the misunderstanding is one of the most satisfying ones I've read.

All in all, a tiny little bit too slice of life for my taste, but still a very funny and sweet novel. <<less

An unique story. If I have to draw conclusion, this story is about Start-Up company, lmao

The MC is OP hard working programmer. The ML is OP underworld king.

Together they build an OP Underworld Technology company, hahahaa..

... more>> The world building is interesting, the comedy also on point, the OPness and face slapping also in good amount, but if you search for romance this story is not for you. The romance is slow and low burn.

It's mostly about how they doing scientific Daoist cultivation and expansion of their company.

Well, apparently the company scope can become really big: health product, health scanning apps, ghost imaging, underworld social media and forums, life management ecology balancing apps, home appliances tech, amusement park, sanskrit rock idol, mobile games, travel blog, online shop, debt collector, and many more in the future I guess.. Hha

I couldn't wait for the next translated chapters so I went and MTLed it, but didn't finish reading it.

The MC is funny and resourceful, I like his personality. The side characters are noy 2Ds. The subplots are nice.

It's the ML that made me drop this. He's supposed to have lived for a very long time but acts like an immature twenty year old. I waited for an explanation why his personality doesn't fit for someone who outlived and watched many human lifetimes, even something like being old made him forget... more>> some things and to cope with such many info he had collected his brain reset ?

Even if this is mostly fluff, the way the ML acts doesn't just make any sense. It's nice read though if you can overlook that. <<less

This novel is just pure crack, if you go into it expecting anything life changing or emotionally heavy you will be disappointed! The characters are all pretty one dimensional, and they don't have too much depth or really any character development. For pure enjoyment, this story is great, but it reads like a slice of life with very minimal plot progression, so I read it more in parts than all at once as I usually do.

and that's pretty much it, over and over. It's not a bad story by any means, but it does get pretty monotonous. I wasn't really attached to any characters, except maybe the goose.

The MC and ML had an alright romantic subplot, but it didn't have any real emotion behind it. They just... got together after some misunderstandings. There was no real realization moment for the MC, and I couldn't tell at all when he actually started to like the ML back. The interactions between the two of them were hilarious, but honestly this story did not convince me that they are actually a real couple and in love.

Probably wouldn't read it again, but it was highly amusing and I definitely had a good time reading. Will say that I lost interest near the end and I really can't muster up the energy to finish it, but who knows maybe one day I'll get around to it... <<less

A pretty entertaining novel.

Started super nice, and I had high hopes after a pretty realistic (well, ignoring technical details) presentation on software development, and an interesting, down to earth view on how hell could operate in modern times.

But, after a while, it got downgraded to being a face-slapping novel. Both MC and ML are OP (in different ways), have golden fingers, etc. New sub plots are basically to show case how great/smart/op one (or both) of them are. Main plot line is gone and forgotten...

Its nice to read when you... more>> are bored, but after 90 chapters of the same, and with more and more ridiculous sub plots poping up, decided to give up. <<less

This is a funny light-hearted comedy about a computer and app programmer who accidentally joins a company involved in managing ghosts and their reincarnations. He shifts from being a firm atheist to a believer in the supernatural.

It is an entertaining read. There are small amounts of dramatic horror and action, but most of it is just fun in the company with the MC doing his job. Although this series is tagged as a BL, that genre doesn't contribute much, and the series thus far can be read as not having... more>> any romance. The BL is so minor, it shouldn't stop anyone from reading this series.

The biggest detriment of this series is how often it pushes socialism out there. It just randomly talks about how great socialism is and how they're following socialist values, even if they're actually working as capitalists for an assignment. I think it's supposed to be a gag, but it can be off-putting.

Mtled the novel. Very satisfied!!!

What I got from this novel is...

WHO SAID SCIENCE/TECHNOLOGY and SUPERSTITIONS DO NOT MATCH TOGETHER?!?!?!??!?!?!?!?!?! LOOK AT MC and ML!!!!

The comedy, romance, the plot. I like them so much! The story was explained well. Nothing is left unexplained (from what I read from the mtl)

Note: mother/father in law was satisfied with MC ♡♡♡

Waiting for the translator to finish translating this gem. Btw good job for the author and translator!!!
