I was playing a boring game where you don’t level up no matter what you do, there’s no event happening and it was even FREE on *** store. I had an argument on relationship stuff, was angry and decided to destroy the village in a game, then a notification pop-up…

-Your karma has increased by 10.

-You are now at level 2.

Graphics of the game changed. Acquired magic. Saved a village girl that was chased by bandits. Gained a cultist.

It seems the events are starting to take place. Lets see what happens…

The summary really does not say much so I'll summarize it for you:

Spoiler

The MC has this game app on his phone that's kinda like a sandbox-world-ish thing. He can only interact with the characters in the game through attacking them right now, but I think this is going in a really good direction so far.

I like this idea of a novel, so being tempted by enthusiastic reviews, I started reading, but what was my disappointment after reading 50 chapters. Next I'll list what I didn't like

the main character is a faceless nameless dude with no history (at least the author didn't bother to call his name as much as I remember for the chapters I read) he just pokes and kills residents here and there and recruits all sorts of scum or breaks normal people. In general, an ordinary player with a dubious moral... more>> compass.

The whole novel focuses on the massacre and the vile rituals of sacrifice. There is no lofty goal or deep reasoning. The usual cruelty and insanity. If you do not enjoy the bloody mu*der of villages and towns full of innocent lives, then this is not for you. And not for me.

As for people, they turn into fanatics amazingly quickly, as if they are under magic. One two and a psycho ready to sacrifice 100 children's hearts is ready

summing up, this is exactly what it seems. Evil God, cultists, vile deeds and fanatical bastards.

think of all those a**holes from other novels. So this is the story about them <<less

What if a civilisation simulation game on your phone is an actual world?

This is just a review to get more people to read this, get hooked on the story, and donate to the translator SO I CAN GET MORE CHAPTERS!

Just read it. If you don't like it, sue me.

... more>> 10/10. If you like stories like Average Evil God or Tensura, give this one a try. (me when only c34)

Edit: Ogie. The story finished. That was disappointing. The author had me hooked... until he/she decided to introduce so many "extra's" and put them on the same level as the main girl. Like what others said, too broad and no detail. <<less

The synopsis is terrible, let me write a slightly better one in order to give people some idea of what to expect from this book:

The main character is a random everyman who works for a living in the modern day. He has a game on his phone and inside the game there is another world. One night he decides to play the game, but this time he had a hard day and also got drunk, so instead of just looking around like usual he decides to tap the screen for... more>> a long time and mu*der an entire village. Once that's done he gains "Karma" and levels up for the first time.

From there, the story begins, with our MC deciding to play the game and level up. He can also use real money to top up and buy random items which can be used in the game world. Summing it all up: MC is the "Evil God" in the title. He plays the game like a game (because it's on his phone and it is a game), which means he's extremely callous and ruthless to his "NPC" opponents. Meanwhile, we, the readers, know it's actually a real world and what he's doing is bad and immoral, so a sense of tension and conflict is created.

It's an interesting enough premise and the translation is fairly good, try it out if it sounds like your cup of tea. <<less

For better and worse, this novel feels like a shortened version of a long story.

It is straight to the point, no filler, as if the author had a bit of inspiration for a story with these few specific events and with just these few number of characters then wrote a story with just those.

And since there's no space for fillers, there's was also no time for world building and more character development and interactions. It lacks that depth to make thing more cimactic.

In the end, this story might feel shallow... more>> in some areas but still, it's fine as a simple short story. <<less

Not bad. Being an "evil god" using a smartphone was an interesting idea and the thing that piqued my interest in this novel initially.

After that, it was fun to watch how his cult & worshippers grew and how his existence as an evil god affected the balance of the world and the reactions of the humans of that world. Very fun alright. Seeing reactions of characters always very fun *cough*

Later on, we start to see hints and foreshadowing of the bigger picture and who he really is which was also... more>> interesting. Although the translation made it a bit difficult at times to fully understand what was going on.

Another thing I liked was the side stories after the ending which showed the daily lives of the characters after the main story ends. It's a nice way to round off the story and you know, reduce the feelings of emptiness that come after finishing a novel. <<less

TLDR: Interesting settings, but the development and story writing were too poor, making for a very dull and starkly repetitive story. There are some better novels with similar concepts. Such as The Dungeon Monsters Keep Offering Sacrifices, which also possesses a paper thin MC, but has actual plot/character developments. Both these novels are types that focus on the supporting chars, rather than the MC, as it is one of those stories. Note that novel was discontinued though...

I usually really love and like these stories... but this one was poorly... more>> executed.

The biggest problem with this novel was the big lack of development to everything, but of course, mostly the characters, and especially the side characters. It's one of those novels where the side characters are the focus of the novel rather than the MC, but there is just zero development with them. And their personalities and characters just become flatter after they are introduced. With it being one of those supporting char focus novels, the main character just has too much focus on him. I can speak for most, that no one prob cares about the MC.

Another big problem, is that world is absurdly small: one kingdom, and one holy empire. No mentions of more areas. Everything consists within the close boundaries of where the MC is unknowingly causing havoc. And throughout all 63 chaps, all we have for scenery is village a, village b, forest, and mountain forest. Or, a sneak peak into a church / kingdom's investigators quarters. The MC is just wiping out countless unknown villages and there has yet to be any real development other than more stronger investigators being sent to investigate the cult despite them repeatedly dying like moths to a flame. And the mc's irl life consists of his poor apartment only.

Together with repetitive action sequences, this makes a very dull novel with lack of details when every single thing is copy pasta that's ever so slightly rewritten in the repeating environments. You never feel attached, you never feel invested, you never feel nothing.

The MC unlocks new magic occasionally, but they are all the same. Lightning, slightly bigger lightning, and bigger lightning. The most you have to look forward to is the new addition of cult followers. The side plot development is pretty bad, and very dull, such as taking over a city by backing up a noble. It was just filler at this point with how dull the writing was. All plot has no twists and turns. They are all straight on executions, with no flourishing and embellishing to their writing.

The author has so little creativity that, a lot of the name things start with the same letters. Like all the girl names start with an E.

Enough yapping for me. The most I can give this novel is a good job on interesting game mechanics, and the intro hook of the first apostle girl. If you want a similar novel, I suggest reading The Dungeon Monsters Keep Offering Sacrifices, it also has a paper thin MC, but unlike this novel, the actual plot and side characters have depth and development. But note the story was discontinued ;=; <<less

I really liked 80% of it, an evil god casually toying with people and building a cult. It was pretty shallow at points (like how easily people convert), but it was a 4 or 5 because it was fun and I love evil MCs.

HOWEVER, the end totally changes the feel to be more dramatic and the MC gets a bit emo. It's not an offensively terrible ending, but I found myself skimming some parts and I went from binging to a few chapters here and there.

I still definitely recommend reading... more>> it if the description appeals to you, but it's not an absolute must-read. <<less

I like it. It feels like I'm just skimming the story with the lack of detail like someone said. But I guess it kind of makes sense if you read this as a player playing a game. We don't know anything behind the scenes and we usually skip some parts.

But the lack of detail means that the story is full of important parts only. The story is straight to the point and concise

If you are tired of any usual game setting, this is quite good and refreshing. It's like the... more>> normal/classic cultivation and Top Tier Providence, Secretly Cultivate for a Thousand Years.

Edited: The last part became so dramatic for my taste that I did not even finish this. And for that 3/5 but the story before he learn the truth is solid 4/5 <<less

I remember reading this while also reading that other novel that also had the same-ish premise. The novel was called Legion grows in my Smartphone. I remember dozing off while reading that novel. This one though really kept me going. I really like the characters and keeps me excited for what could happen in the future chapters.

As the previous review mentioned, the description is really short. In essence it fits perfectly. If you want a bit more of an intro to the story..

Here you go.

Ps. It's a spoiler for the first couple of chapters.

Spoiler

There is an interesting idle sandbox game. Though set in a fantasy world, it has the charm of an anthouse.

But once tapped there seems to be more going on.

___

To help set the image of the game straight,

think of the game 'evoland'.

I feel dumb reading this to be honest.

Spoiler

It literally showed Karma right at the start as well as an apostle just a few chapter later. It means he can establish a religion/order yet he just go everywhere and massacre everything.

If this guy is actually a GAMER, he would have started thinking really hard on how to efficiently do things. But since he clearly wasn't he still waste his time wantonly massacring anything that moves.

Still, he did started doing it right after, but he still decides to let his "character" sacrifice people yet he worries some boss level mob will start harassing his "character".

[collapse]

As for whether I'll recommended this, NO. But feel free to make your own judgement if you still feel like giving it a try like I did despite reading a lot of other reviews.

P.S: Might add new thoughts after reading the whole book.

After reading till c92:

I don't really see any character development with the main character. It has a similar composition to OPM where MC wasn't the focus rather, the other characters around him. In this novel's case, the "character" the MC is raising in the "Game". I'm still trying to finish the novel but at this point, where I don't see any light for the MC's development, its really hard to finish the Novel.

You may rather try following I'll be Taking a Break for Personal Reason. <<less

Passable.

The concept is fine, the problem is the detachment of the player.

Player is just someone playing a game. So even if we know it's a real world he's influencing, it just feels bland.

... more>> Would you have fun just watching someone boring killing random people with a tap on the phone?

And what makes it worse is that this player is dumb, he doesn't think, he just reads what the game tells him and acts on it without any strategy, and he won't even think on how to build and make better progress.

It's boring, the player outside is meh and doesn't think and just goes through the motions. While the world inside is not interesting, A cult is being built but it's too easy, and even the people directing their faith on this player have very direct thoughts, so nothing complex and no complex emotions.

It's a simple plot of massacring people to gain point, and characters getting faith for this player for no reason (except the first apostle, she has enough reason to believe in him).

These points serve some purposes but won't be that useful in the short run aside from assigning apostles and building the cult.

Cult is being built with no direction from player, we don't even know anything about it aside from how it was founded, we don't know how many people it has or how it's managed.

I'd be surprised if this player even survived, the original gods and heroes would kill him easily seeing how naive he is. But of course, the author would utilize his plot armor and bless this player with good cult followers that somehow accepted this player as their god.

It's really just bad execution.

I'd rather read an actual casual evil god that thinks and considers karma and all that.

Even just having a player that's aware of what he's doing or has a power of actually observing the world inside from a god's perspective instead of through a phone. <<less

Cool story, loved it. For the most part, it focuses on mc’s and his cults’ growth. The story gradually progresses to show the truth of the world/s.

The end feels somewhat rushed (anticlimactic) if the side stories were not included but it’s not something that’ll ruin the story.

When MC becomes a god (descended) it was awesome and worth the wait. He had a little “let there be light” moment at the side story but in the opposite way (God of Destruction and all that).

I really love the despair and fear the opponents felt once they realized who MC really is.

i think of this webnovel as a fun alternate universe of NPC Town-building Game, similar but not really. Both has the game setting, and a god persona to the ppl they can interact with in the game. The difference is that this novel shows what it would be like if

Spoiler
  • there were pre existing gods in the game world and those gods dont want another entity to appear in that world
  • the mc's units were a little cuckoo, his first apostle was a noble girl in the outskirts of a country, her familys not rich but got caught up in a controversy, her father got arrested and shes the only one left to care for her town but some bandits show up and shes forced to run away, MC found her desperate and already broken
  • this novel's fantasy is much prevalent, lots of magics the characters can wield and a couple of cool battles too
  • the MC doesnt mind doing heinous things
[collapse]

its not a story you'd read to get some insights or for some noble purpose. We know jack sh*t about the MC aside from him being that ordinary salaryman with a gambling addiction but its a fun one to pass the time with and thats good enough for me

The concept is interesting, it is similar to the manhwa "Pick Me Up" (which I recommend you check out), but the protagonist is, how do I describe it, dumb? The author made him intentionally oblivious to certain concepts, such as karma, and other aspects which you can easily figure out through common sense. It is hard to describe without spoiling the novel. It is enjoyable I guess, but infuriating at times.

As for the characters, ... more>>

The way they become fanatics is very forced, in my opinion. I understand that the main girl was alone with no support at the time, but for you to immediately throw away your values and start massacaring people without remorse is questionable.
