In her previous life, Zhang Yansheng wasted her life because of her scumbag father and stepmother—smoking, drinking, getting tattoos, and drag racing. Reborn back to high school, Yansheng, a rebellious girl, looks at the luxurious mansion and million-dollar cars at home… What’s with being rebellious? Isn’t it better to inherit the family business instead?

Yansheng is now determined to study hard and be a qualified heir of the family.

What about the stepmother and half-brother who are actually devils? What she wasn’t able to do in her previous life was to win the fight. So, Yansheng puts an end to her bad demeanor and follows the right path this time.

Scumbag Father: I will listen to Yanyan!

Half-brother: Sister, I won’t dare!

Half-sister: My sister is the prettiest in the entire universe!

Grandmother: Yanyan is the heir of the family!

The stepmother, with her precious son, cries bitterly, “The eldest child is obviously a daughter, so why will she inherit the family’s property? I gave birth to a son!”

Everyone says that the prince of the Yue family, Yue Song, is a cold-hearted person, cold as winter. Until that day, someone has seen his gentleness to Yansheng, gentle as water. “I want to talk to you about marriage between heirs of powerful families.”

I enjoyed this novel because of how grounded and in character it was. The story makes sense and the character choices makes sense as well.

The MC isn't perfect and being reborn doesn't mean that she knows everything or that she's going to have a smooth life. She has her own mistakes to own up to and the face-slapping is limited to actual awful people. Sometimes she goes too far but it makes sense. She has her own trauma and it shows. She is both sensible and fierce and it's hard... more>> to look away from her increasingly dazzling self. There are many complex characters and situations and there are many moments where the story swerves away from typical cliches to do something new.

There are moments where the reader may disagree with the MC's actions (I certainly did), but I think that giving a low review because of that doesn't actually make sense. Is it in-character? Is there proper build up? Realistic Consequences? Story development? That is what matters and not just if it personally doesn't suit your taste.

all in all, a solemn but also sweet and gratifying rebirth story. <<less

Ok, it's my first review ever !

First I read it like during quarantine and I really liked it.

First she learnt how to love herself more, to be more understanding, not vengeful.

... more>> I read too much stories like she came back and instead of leading a peaceful life they seek vengeance. You gain nothing by being negative and full of hate and anger.

I like how her friend, the second male lead became better.

So I like it for this reason, so yes the story and the characters could have been developed better, There is always room for improvment. But I like the author approch, she focused on slowly make the FL more mature, she explained well how wealthy asian families have many corpse under their bed. The romance was great too,

the gap between them seems big but in fact he respect her and wait for her. He never did anything inappropriate.

I recommand it. It was not some kind smut stuff, it was clean and refreshing for me.

I enjoyed it. The first part was rough to get through. But I think the charm of this novel was just how nuanced and complex the characters were. They were not one-dimensional caricatures of a villain/hero. I liked that it showed how people’s nature and nurture truly affect how you eventually turn out.

FL is not OP, although her death at a young age was pretty much the least believable thing for me when she reincarnated. I’m weirded out by the romance arc and how she met the ML - but... more>> oh well 🤷🏻‍♀️ <<less

Feel good read. Everything is just so refreshing to read. The romance, friendship and familial love are all grounded in reality. No unecessary drama but has that signature CN self indulgent read-feel.

It has been along time since I found something refreshing in the 'reborn' genre. The thing I enjoyed the most is how well portrayed is the relationship between daughter and father. It is really complex the world in adulthood and the mental process that requires you to mature sometimes it's not accompanied by the age. This is a light version of what it could be a psicological-tagged novel. The romance it's really late, and although it feels natural, since it starts around 100s chapter you cannot see the same development... more>> as the father-daughter relationship.
Spoiler

][The stepmother could have become some interesting character if the author had ended up living her as Mrs. Zhang. I have the illusion that mainstream Chinese novela like to label everything between black and white so the mistress couldn't stay but it would have been interesting to see how the family interactions develop with the father having more women outside and her staying as a wife.

All in all, these is a really enjoyable read. Maybe a bit rushed at the end but it leaves you a good feeling. <<less

It was a good read. I loved how the author used Yanyan's rebirth as her redemption. She was able to influence the life of the people around her and they received their rewards and punishments in a humane way. I also appreciated how the author concluded the novel.

This is one of my favorite stories in the chance to redo your life theme. I like how the main character is not suddenly completely mature and emotionally stable... she has things to recover from and a re-start doesn't suddenly make her mentality all better. She has a new perspective, which helps, but it still takes her time to warm up to her younger sister (LOVE the sister), and she has scars she working on getting past up to the end.

I also love the nuances for most of the characters.... more>> Even the step-mother is not completely evil, and MC even finds a circumstance where step-mom gets her support. The villains are very real, and while not everyone has character growth, a lot of people do.

This one went on my "save to re-read later" list. <<less

This is a story of class and age archetypes in a very specific culture, and they are all so familiar that it's a bit scary. The draw is not in the originality of the characters or even the finesse of the storytelling, but the fidelity of their thoughts and emotions in the compromises of life for the sake of a little more stability, a little more complacency. Having one sweet, forgiving little kid in the story is miracle enough -- a thoughtful inclusion.

Here, you see the actual commonsense of China's... more>> people. If the law is imperfect, act extrajudiciously. If the power holders in the family are corrupt or biased, make yourself indespendible so they are willing to be used by you, then reverse the imbalance with initiative. Emotions are valuable currency to be traded. Never tear face immediately, because puny individuals who live venting their emotions have no power to actually decide their path, but live in confusion and s*upidity. Instead, act to gain the skills and assets that will give you a status, then madden your enemies from that safe position so that they destroy themselves. Violence must remain an option, to be used purposefully, not out of impulse. Work for your respect and never alienate those who extend their interest, even if they are scum. If you don't have to fight, lie low and train hard; if you have to fight, fight to kill, and kill cleanly without a sound. And take care of children by keeping them company and teaching them proper boundaries, not by using them or throwing money.

The story is unashamed about its nature as a modern parable. Despite some flaws, it achieves everything it sets out to do. All the better if the reader recognises some of the villainy in the book as their own. However, it has surprisingly nuanced character interactions, and all the relationships develop in a way that feels completely organic. In the context of a webnovel, it's an accomplishment. Five stars. <<less

A very well written story with realistic characters, a cute little sister and a understandable MC. It is a bit old fashioned in the sense she was labeled a "bad girl" for having tattoos and drinking but its honestly a pretty good story to read when you want to read something not too dramatic.

I liked that she got along well with her sister but hope she can get close to with her little brother, didn't like that she almost killed the mother at the start and in front of the family damn and she wasn't punished for the assault just wow. I also liked the development of the MC with her previous life friend but she can be hypocritical she treated the other girl friend from the previous life to harshly since in this life she's just another 15 yo girl if she can forgive and try to change the previous boy friend why not see the side of the girl too? And the mother of xu the way the mistress and the other son was dealt with was very brutal didn't even let the child go thats the same age as her son.

[collapse]

The romance for me was not well written and felt shoed in they just instantly fell in love for no reason. And didn't like the way the ML told himself that he wouldn't chase her bec he snot a pedo or groomer but still chose to follow her videos and activities and still chase her when shes a minor bro why is a almost college graduate sniffing around a 1st year highschool so creepy, no matter if its good looking it still is a big old red flag so had to stop reading at this part. The first part was enjoyable though but no to pedos we know shes a reincarnated 21 yo but he doesn't. <<less

A very satisfying read. I like that the ML crosses paths with her in the first life, and gives a good reason for her to have such an impression of him. The FL makes good use of her rebirth, and works hard to improve herself, without any amazing powers or unrealistic intelligence. She sees people a lot more clearly from her “older” perspective, and can understand their motivations and reasons - rather than seeing everyone as against her, it was more like they were for themselves. It was a bit... more>> funny when she met her BFF from the original life and is embarrassed recalling their teen drama 😂 Yep, that’s about right.

Spoiler

Rather than have the guy fall for her at first sight, their relationship is built slowly, with him seeing her early and being intrigued by her looks and attitude, but decisively deleting her photo and not pursuing because of her age. For over a year he encounters her from a distance and stays interested in her - I like that he is not impatient to meet her because he knows that eventually they will meet. Then they do meet in a drama-like encounter (it made me laugh how dumbfounded his dorm mates were). He’s pretty slick at befriending her dad and I love that her BFF and he also become great buddies instead of going the jealousy route. She’s mentally older, so they are well matched, and I love how patient and respectful he is with her desire to stay unmarried.

[collapse]

There’s not a huge revenge arc, nor a ton of face slapping (her cousin and aunt are the only two that ever get face slapped, and that’s their own problem). If you like angst and drama, this probably isn’t for you, but as a solid, healthy romance, this is highly recommended. <<less

Overall it was okay. The approach on Zhang Yansheng's character after being reborn was was actually pretty realistic. However, I refuse to accept that her scumbag, garbage of a father was given an undeserved pardon. I thoroughly disliked how such an immoral and unscrupulous man who disrespects his marriage and wife (while she was sick with cancer might I add) was all of a sudden given a free pass just because he decided to act remotely like a paternal figure when it was already too late. And even then he... more>> left the responsibility of parenting his two illegitimate children to ZYS and was essentially just an ATM machine. The father's presence made the story a bit unbearable to read because there is that constant reminder of what a POS he really is. He never deserved his first wife and he especially doesn't deserve ZYS's affection nor respect. It's despicable how the author tries to paint him in a more favorable light by saying that even though he's a crap excuse of a husband/father/man it's okay because he does charity work and makes a lot of money and looks pretty good. It's actually insulting whenever the father brought up his first wife as if he never cheated on her or fathered illegitimate children while she was fighting for her life.

A man like than, fictional or not, is irredeemable and inexcusable and it's extremely unfortunate that this story glorified him and gave such little screen time to the ML who actually deserves all the praise. The only consolation is reading that the scum father was also stepping out on the mistress turned stepmother. A tiger never changes its stripes. *SIGH* stories like this really make marriage seem so unappealing. <<less

The story is great, but I still want to know what happend to hehe and shoushou, especially shoushou because author make it a little bit suspicious. I like how MC act and how the ML act. It's not a prince riding in white horse to save the damsell in distress kind of story, and I like how the author make them communicate for each problem saving us from misunderstanding trope.

I recommend this novel, you won't regret it.

It's not necessary bad but it's also boring. The start was good but towards the later middle pacing was somehow lost and became rushed. Because of that, lots of core reasons of why the novel was actually good, was crumbled (characters, relationships, interactions).
i mean even the great bro licheng became way more significant than the ML towards the end. Which is ironically funny bc in the beginning he was given this big role of why rebirth situation even happened. But no, his potential was wasted and thus ended up like your typical 2D ml.

also can we talk about the mentality "I'm not like other girls" that's sprinkled everywhere?? Makes me cringe.

I really like the story, characters, and the settings all the way until the last chapter. But it could have been better to be honest, it feels the pacing of the story was a mess after chapter 50+ and it jumped between scenes a lot in just few paragraphs. Otherwise, very nice read.

As the tags indicate, there is no Romance but just a flair in the air.

This is not a story where rebirth feels like the before and after are like 2 different people.

Sure, near-death experiences can cause some changes of character so I imagine a real death would cause more of them but this one is a very realistic one. A I have read other similar novels of this concept I was biased and frustrated especially the way the FL interacted with her scum of a father. The age gap of... more>> rebirth here is only 6 years, from 21 going back to 15, and honestly very little changes happen during happen during the period of a person's life, especially for the FL since she was still in a rebellious phase and not much of grown up.

The way the protagonist ventures to change her life is extremely realistic, as well as her growth which in extension changes the lives of some around her in a logical way. The villains and ''villains'' are not brain dead nor do they have any great depth as the story does not focus much on their interaction with the FL to portray her growth but more on her struggle with the situations that led her astray in the first place.

Some complain for the change of pace of the story, where as usual there is a slow time pace in beginning and at the late stage it kind of fast forwards, but I find that logical as well. The reason for that is because it takes a long time to face the struggles of change and establish a new path of life and once that is done the story does not deal with minor face-slapping bullsh*t etc as filler and moves forward to resolve some left over business she is supposed to encounter later on.

So overall an enjoyable read. <<less

I really liked this rebirth/second chance story. I felt like the characters were more fleshed out and a bit flawed (in a good, logical way). Like some people will not change, but others have the ability to improve if they just had someone there to care. An example is her brother. He didn’t immediately change into an angel child who loves his sister and he had his moments, but he was able to become a better person than the previous timeline because MC helped him out. Additionally, I liked how... more>> MC was a little OP at times too but not as obvious as some other novels where every enemy tries to attack her repeatedly but everything goes her way in the end with everyone fully defeated/gone forever (so no repeating large face slapping scene). The only thing I was just very slightly iffy about was
Spoiler

she was still in highschool when she got together with the ML (He’s 4 years older), like yeah she’s closer to his age mentally but not physically. I’m glad he did stay away from her though the first two years of HS because he understood that she was young and when dating, he let her be since when she was busy with the upcoming college exam. I also thought it was pretty reasonable how her view of marriage was distorted because of her dad which caused her to not marry the ML for some time. The last thing I was to comment on is, and I don’t know if I accidentally missed this part or not, Zhuang (?), the college top scorer disappeared completely after failing to ask her out on her birthday...

were used. People in this novel felt real and not just a 2d kind of characters.

This novel isn't about romance with the ML, this is all about the MC, her experiences, her sibling relationships, her relationship with her father, step mom, her views about goals in life and societal expectations on her. Its a really good chill read and the face slapping is subtle and physical so thats fun.

This is a really great and refreshing novel. Some will find the 3/4 draggy bc of FL's school and family life but I think the flow of story is quite good. The development of several characters were awesome. I truly enjoyed it.

Quote from novel that best described the FL's POV: "It's worthless to waste yourself for anyone, so you must live your own life well."

The FL
Spoiler

FL (Zang Yansheng) was a unique of her own, she has flaws and not a Mary Sue rebirthed character. She didn't suddenly became genius student or talented businesswoman... she basically studied and worked hard for it all.

Also, she got good mentality. Despite her demise in past life, she admitted that she also got her shares of mistakes in past and didn't fully blamed her enemies. I'm glad that she still level-headed... she might be cold/unemotional, sometimes selfish and experienced hatred/disgust; but she didn't do non-sense revenge against some characters and instead help them to correct their wrongs and to guide to them to the path of good future.

[collapse]

The ML
Spoiler

FL and ML (Yue Song) only met in later chapters... but this guy is literally walking "green flag". He was patient and supportive to FL for the whole time. He also respected her decisions especially in terms of marriage. Couldn't ask for any better ML for the FL, he's so good despite living with a gold spoon himself.

[collapse]

Also, plus points were almost all characters got depth such as her siblings, relatives, Xu Lichen, etc.... even her father who was a huge womanizer and scumbag got some good side.
