I read the raws some time ago. And I would like to say that this is a novel I genuinely recommend. Not because it's a great innovative story or because it's well written with extremely complex characters plots and relationships. No it's because of the main protagonist.

He has a spine. He can say no to a female character. He has his own goal not some system's leash around his neck or some uber powerful character that would just send him on errands all over the world. No he has his... more>> own goal and actually grows stronger on his own accord no tr*sh mentor overpowered old character tough love making him stronger by beating him like half of the korean novels have he can think on his own and make his own deicisions and form his own opinions. I would like to put all these in caps because it's so absurdly rare in korean novels every single one of these points that it almost deserves it.

The side characters are at best okay. There are some interesting ones some almost decent female characters no annoying "bossy step-on-me" types that korean authors love since the protagonist is an actual barbarian he doesn't give a damn so much in this regard that it's closer to a chinese novel and that's not a plus again side characters are at best okay.

The story is again at best decent nothing special nothing new. There is a small twist but it's not exactly unexplored either these days.

So again. The only reason I would recommend this novel is the protagonist. You'll have a hard time finding similar protagonists in korean novels with a male main character because they simply do not exist. And I've read an absurd amount of korean novels specifically in the past year. Read at your own risk I just found it as an extremely rare "jewel (potato) " in a disgusting pile of garbage that most jp/kr protagonists are. (Should probably add to this that chinese protagonists are mostly tr*sh as well just in a different way. Just so that we are clear :).) <<less

Main character is worth the time invested thus far. The plot is okay? There are dumb tropes stuff, while also serious things... Makes it feel a little off, but the main character is well written an enjoyeable.

Not sure if its just cause im sick of beta males, edgelords, and perfect memory azzholes... But this prototye main character feels like hes from a western epic fantasy rather than an asian lightnovel.... I hope it does well over there, the world needs more masculine baddazzzes in fiction.

So far it has been pretty good. The male MC is a regressor and the female MC is a transmigrator. This has a very high potential to become a good novel.

Recommended.

I might be biased because I love stories with ignorant himbo protagonists, but it's a lot of fun and well worth reading. The translation has also been excellent thus far, and while initially chapters were released irregularly, they have since become much more consistent.

This is a fun read. If you like the regressor trope, but are tired of the same old plots of either revenge or hero syndrome, you'll like Ulan a lot.

I can't comment on the translation quality, as I speak no Korean, but the finished product is very legible, with proper English spelling and grammar. The occasional, small error doesn't distract, or detract, from the novel itself. Well done :)

The main plot feels fresh and focused. Its about a s*upid but powerful barbarian trying to balance out his wit through schooling.
Spoiler

after he dies he gets a second chance. Starting back at the age of 16, he decides he needs not only more power, but also the wit to survive and fight. Meeting his old friends he tries to adapt to school life (although failing) and keeps getting cought up in the "protagonists" events.

[collapse]
the best part of the story is definitely how true to himself the barbarian is. He's trying to overcome himself but is confident and powerful enough to face his problems head on, he rarely hesitates and never flees. Just a mighty warrior smashing his problems away.

This is quite a good story for the first 50-70 chapters. It has a lot of similarities to Ending Maker, where the story has a lot of fortunate moments (plot armor) for the good guys but it’s easy to gloss over because the characters are fun and the story is interesting.

The major differences are harem (kinda?) and no narrative tension ever due to plot armor.

Past the 70s, a large portion of the plot begins to revolve around the harem - which is just girls chasing our hunk - start keeping... more>> eachother in check as well as the main plot becoming a predictable formula of *event happens*, part of the crew + MC stop it, *romantic (aka walking around and nothing else) interlude*

It felt like the author ran out of steam towards the end. Boss battles that have been talked about for 200+ chapters are over in half a chapter with no real fanfare.

Finally. (Spoiler is about the harem resolution)
Spoiler

For all the time this novel spends on the interactions between the MC and the harem, it never goes anywhere romantically. This just wastes a ton of the novel and is unsatisfying. Coupling this with the other plot line being tied up in a crappy way, this novel ends terribly.

[collapse]

anyhow, I’d recommend reading Ending Maker instead <<less

In short, it is the saga of a CHAD Barbarian.

While seemingly a dumb barbarian, his unmatched power sets the stage for an interesting plot. The worldbuilding is commendable. The narrative's humor adds a lighthearted touch, keeping the story engaging. Side characters, though not central, add depth and enjoyment. The translation quality is good, and the releases are frequent.

But, read it for the Chad MC.

The transmigrator girl is insufferable in the same way most such MCs are... but luckily she isn't the MC here, the chad regressor barb is!

Rather than overthink future info... he just tells everyone what he remembers! (even if it's not much he understood...)

Rather than moping over particular past events... he just goes and FIX them!

Etc.

Big dumb barbarian hero regresses and decides to aim for a level beyond human limits but he does not know how.

So what does he do? He decides to learn how, acquire knowledge, go to school and figure out how to get stronger.

But being the barbarian that he is he takes ages to learn anything and can barely read a couple pages of text before he passes out.

As of chapter 46 MC has managed to power through with power and experience whilst making friends with members of the hero party who... more>> in their youth also attended the same school.

I find that the best part of the novel has been in that the MC actually remains as a big dumb barbarian and didn't just get a "fruit of knowledge" or a "blessing of wisdom" to turn him into a generic main character with no distinguishing qualities. <<less

The "true" female protagonist Noah so irritating, she treats everything like a game and doesn't truly care about the characters, all she cares about is how they can benefit her. You may think this is natural since she got reincarnated into a game, but once that game becomes reality, you're just an as*hole for not treating the characters like real people. She reminds me of the original protagonist, Park Shiu or something, from I Killed the Player of the Academy. The MC Ulan genuinely cares about Noah and she is... more>> treated like one of his friends, but Noah just treats Ulan like a tool. Tbh I find it satisfying whenever she can't get the in-game bonuses she wants <<less

Excellent book, I quite like the MC, he's a very refreshing character in his brute-ish ways (or sometimes dumb ahaha), straight forward and a big chad! Even more so compared to all the other Korean or Japan MCs out there.

The development of the heroines is also nice, and steady, slowly we unravel their past and the new connections they make this time.

I also forgot about the two main povs of this book, Noah's, the shaman transmigrator girl form earth, and Ulan the regressor from the past. I think I can... more>> confidently say that it's the only book that made this work so well. I highly recommend it. <<less

This is truly a good start.

Spoiler

Personally, I believe Noah (What is introduced as the female lead, but ultimately isn't the main character), to be an incredibly good way to make this story more engaging. In fact I would say the story is at it's highest when thing are told from her point of view.

[collapse]

This main character starts off as one of the strongest, no time is wasted on training or the like, this can be a downside for some, but that's exactly what I was looking for.

The only critique I would have is the cliche romance tropes, which I would argue are unneeded,
Spoiler

especially if Noah becomes interested in romance (66 chapters in, she clearly isn't in love).

I gotta be honest with ya I didn't expect this to be so good, it's definitely in the top 5 of novels I've read.

The humor is pretty good +1

The MC is muscular (personal preference) +1

... more>> The MC has a weakness that they continuously try to overcome +1

The other characters are well developed +2

World building is incredible +2

The MC isn't a depressed anti-hero, a power hungry evil guy, or a lustful and selfish bastard rather hes a good person so +3

The writing as far as I can tell doesn't have any flaws +1

Overall that's 11☆ out of 10☆ even without the personal preference it would still be a 10☆ in my book. <<less

Grade:

9/10 (not a 10 only because is ongoing, but reaaaaally close)

TLTR:

Probably one of the most interesting takes on this type of novel, fun moments and cool characters, the one demerit, is that MC has lots of luck and that he is dumb for no other reason than being dumb, but my god, some fun senanigans and story plots. Recommended for a small reading experience

I'm quite surprised by overwhelming 5 star ratings, this novel is mediocre at best. Tbh beginning was entertaining, it was refreshing to read about a Korean MC with such a strong personality. It is the only plus point in the story. But after 50-60 chapters, author started focusing on harem and catfights, it quickly became annoying.

First of all author probably didn't plan anything before writing this novel. There was zero worldbuilding in the first 150 chapters i.e, 40% of the novel.

Secondly there's a lack of tension in the writing. It... more>> goes like this, something terrible is about to happen and then the next chapter is about bickering among harem's candidates over who will hold MC's hand. Story is full of wrong moments like this.

Lastly, author couldn't even create a smart character. Everyone is just dumb in the story. Aside from harem infighting, this made me drop the novel.

To sum up, if you want to avoid typical KR MCs, then you can read it. But after 50-60 chapters, story will be full of typical misunderstanding cliches, harem cliches and average plot. <<less

The story is a good recommendation.

The world looks interesting so far. The game aspect and other plot lines draw my interest and I’m curious where they go.

The characters introduced so far range from good to great. They might not be super complicated, but no one has come across as flat and straw man like.

The translation is alright. My mind might be bruised and I might have lower standards, but nothing has screamed out to me. At most the pronouns are misdone sometimes and it’s a bit confusing for a second.... more>> That’s about all.

The only issue I have is with the Translator’s website. The site itself is fine, but it’s clearly been infected with malware/bad ads. You’re often randomly directed away from the page to an endless stream of scam/ad sites. Only way to deal with it was to go into read mode directly upon entering.

It did seem to stop after chapter 10, or perhaps it was fixed. Either way it was infuriating and nearly stopped me from reading. <<less

An otherwise note for note strong to stronger regression fantasy academy novel, propped up by a unique protagonist with a clear personality filled with both strengths and deficiencies.

Translation is pretty good, occasional minor mistakes but nothing that gets in the way of understanding.

Also I may just be being paranoid but the website is consistently flagged by my malware protection, possibly because of the the ad provider (not sure as I also use ublock origin) or it may be something else. Its blocked on my pc but since I'm not sure... more>> what the source is I feel I should warn other potential readers. <<less

Not bad so far. 3/5 is a relatively high score for me nowadays.

All is said in the summary and other reviews, so I'll keep it short.

The setting is a very typical Korean magic academy in a fantasy world based on a game world (hence game elements), except the protagonist isn't aware of it being a game world, which is a nice little spin on the cliche.

The plot is fine too, so far. However, it may be a bit boring because while the protagonist is pursuing his goals instead of being... more>> passive, this subplot of him doing so is rather sparsely present (it kind of makes sense, given how slow he is in the IQ department). It's mostly comedy and developing relationships with love interests that are in the spotlight.

Speaking of comedy, it's quite good. As the tags say, it's a misunderstandings comedy type, but it's pulled off decently well. It's nothing great, though.

The protagonist, well, isn't a Chad as some other review (s) say, because he's too dense to be that (dense specifically in the romantic sense, missing tag "dense protagonist"), though the setting kind of explains that. I'd instead call him an alpha male (because he isn't swept by the love interests, and first does what he wants, e.g. A chick tries to invite him out, but he says nope, I was going to run now - and then she ends up running with (after?) him). Speaking of it, the author does a great job of portraying him as a good, manly dude. That's why he's a true alpha male, and not some ripoff like some red pill "alphas" on Youtube lmao.

Other characters are okay so far. They have some flaws, but it's normal, and some of them at least can retrospect and improve or reform. I appreciate the way the love interests are gradually getting closer to the MC. As another reviewer said, we do have some cat fights by now, but they're nowhere as frequent as that reviewer made it sound.

Overall, a fairly promising novel with a honorable warrior type MC. I recommend with a clear conscience. It's just a question of whether it will stay good or get better/worse. <<less

!THIS ONE IS BREATH OF FRESH AIR!

🌲🌿☘️🍀🌱🍃🌳🌴

I was trying to find a boring story to read before going to sleep, but oh boy, I ended up laughing my heart out while reading the first 30 chapters of this novel!! 🤣🤣🤣 His actions are so unhinged and funny to me. The fact that he came from the grassland and doesn’t care about petty politics mean that his actions so refreshing!!! Finally I found a korean novel MC with a backbone!!!

I've been kinda fed up with the usual super-smart, scheming, or scummy MCs.... more>> This guy is just a total muscle head 🤣, and his way of thinking is pretty darn interesting.

He goes with his gut, doesn't overthink things, and he's super strong! I just enjoy reading about him; he doesn't have any sneaky motives, just does what he thinks is right.

Sure, the plot isn't anything super special, but the MC totally makes up for it. If you want a laid-back story with a seriously strong and straightforward MC, this one's right up your alley. <<less
