A love in the entertainment industry started with a “Weibo hot search”.

I didn’t mean to exploit your popularity and take advantage of you!

Ran Lin was barely surviving in the entertainment industry. However, after a huge misunderstanding, he was thrust into the spotlight because of Lu Yiyao, one of the hottest actors. For the first time in his life, Ran Lin’s name appeared in the top searches. On the other hand, Lu Yiyao deeply regretted his hug at the airport.

One knew that he was in the wrong, while the other was utterly disgusted. Never in their wildest dreams would they have expected their fates to be irreversibly intertwined after a variety show…

The showbiz of this novel is pretty standard, with a variety show to start and then a series of movies that MC films, one with ML and others without. I’ll say it’s a bit more realistic than some other showbiz novels that I’ve read where MC and ML end up basically becoming attached at the hip filming everything together, as in this one they actually do their own things, during which they maintain a long distance relationship. The individual movie plots aren’t anything too unique though, as I didn’t really... more>> get overly engaged in any of them, and the pacing does drag especially near the end, as the length of this novel is quite long and each chapter is about 10k words.

The relationship between MC and ML especially at the start is really where this novel is most engaging, as both of them have quite likable and distinct personalities. The ML isn’t just your standard cold best actor type, and has a pretty amusing narcissistic side once he actually opens up. While MC is the one to fall and confess first, the ML actually is the one who ends up chasing, which I feel really helped add to the charm of their pairing. ML is also supposedly straight, but he doesn’t show interest in men or women alike, so it’s really just compulsory heterosexuality, as the only person he’s ever felt attracted to is the MC.

There’s a good cast of side characters which all get a sizable amount of screen time, and maybe somewhat unique for a danmei but a lot of them are actually heterosexual. While some of the character dynamics and personalities do end up falling into common tropes, it’s still pretty refreshing to have a ML with an actual personality, and he was definitely the reason that I kept reading to the end. The main couple is also just a very relaxing couple dynamic to read (if not a bit boring), able to communicate well and respect each other, not really arguing or ever having conflict of interests. I wouldn’t call this a really transformational or incredible novel since it really is quite smooth sailing, but it’s decent to pass the time with.

Note on the TL that I really didn't like how the translator chose to substitute the text emojis in the originals with actual emojis. A lot of the meanings got lost, as for example [doge] was substituted with a dog emoji, which does not accurately convey the actual intended use of the emoji. When it comes to these things, it really is best to just keep the original text, and there were many times I had to go back to raws to look what the actual text emoji was because the emoji used in the translation made no sense. I ended up just reading entirely from the raws after about chapter 20 or so because there was just too much context getting lost with this MTL.

The writing style in Chinese isn’t that complex, and I do tend to prefer more poetic works, and especially those that really delve into characters’ mental states rather than just stating facts, so that does also lend to my overall rating of this novel. Character emotions in this novel sometimes felt a bit dry and some really emotional moments (like MC breaking down over his unrequited love) ended up reading really matter of fact, rather than getting me to actually cry with the characters. There wasn’t the most depth to the main two characters, especially for a novel of this length, and I do just feel like there was a little bit missing in the writing for me to fully connect to it. Still, definitely not a bad read! <<less

I just want to say that I had several (almost) sleepless nights while reading this masterpiece!!

I just feel a bit conflicted about the ending. Don't get me wrong. It's really good! I just feel it's a pity that there were some parts that I wanted but, sadly, was not mentioned.

Spoiler

I wish the ending would have been more detailed, especially about the acceptance of the parents. The dinner with Lu Yiyao's parents were barely summarized in few sentence and I must admit it was not enough!! I wanted more!! And where's the part of Ran Lin's parents meeting Lu Yiyao! I wanted to read that part so badly because I was so curious about their reaction! And their so-called wedding that was barely mentioned by Ding Kai to his cousin in the Extra!! I wanted to read that part as well!! Ughhhhh...

Anyway, it's a really good novel over all and I love every part of it <3 <<less

I actually read the Manhua adaptation first a few years back and it was one of the few Manhuas I really followed for updates along with "Pixiu's Eatery, No Way Out" but didn't know the novel title.

Surprisingly felt long considering it's only 101 chapters and my only complaint is that there's no extras after QAQ

Ran Lin is baby and must be protected! Gentle, sincere, and kind, but also has a bottom line he won't cross. He's someone who would forgive someone who wronged him but wouldn't do so unless the... more>> other party explained and apologised.

Lu Yiyao meanwhile, though unapproachable at first, is good to those who can overcome his initial barrier. Actually kinda funny and endearing despite being so serious.

Side characters were also memorable and lovable. I adore how their friends and family, though playing a second role in the book, all have stories of their own and actually feels like people, not just background props there to prop up the main characters. GU JIE BEST BOY.

There's also a lot of thought and care given to the roles and plays the MC takes, and the Showbiz aspect isn't just the setting, but an integral part of the story.

In conclusion: READ THIS GEM <<less

I rarely write review, but this novel is just so amazing that I want to show it off.

First of all, the characters is very well written. I like almost every characters because of how human they are.

Spoiler

My favorite is definitely Zheng Beichen. His jealousy, ambition, longing and manipulation is very refreshing, like every human being who is sometimes influenced by their negative emotion and in the end destroyed them. I like how the author wrote him, like even though he's bad, but he still has conscience and sadness. His bad ending is well deserved, but I wish the author wrote his condition after the Weibo confession thing

[collapse]

The plot itself is refreshing. I really enjoy domineering CEO Gong, but sometimes it become quite repetitive that I wish for normal Gong instead. And this novel is exactly it. The ML does have powerful background, but he doesn't ab*se it, almost none except for when he first started his career.

This novel is not fall-in-love-at-first-sight cliche. The ML even hates MC at first lol but thank God they both are clear headed people. The romance is slow at the beginning, but then happens unexpectedly.

Overall, 9/10 would recommend. The translations is also good <<less

The sign of a good book is when you realize you're thinking about it when not reading it.

I'm convinced this author is working in the entertainment industry, and might even be a screenwriter. Not only because of the in-depth knowledge used to write the novel, but also because of the excellent story within the story - the drama the actors were starring in - I would watch that drama if it were available.

There were pockets of humor that had me lol, mostly from the side characters. I feel like I... more>> know Gu Jie and Xia Xinran. And wish they were my friends.

Part of this is a finding yourself and then coming out novel - while surrounded by the best people in the world. Chapter 98 sums up the entire vibe. It's mature, thoughtful, considerate, warmhearted. I absolutely loved it. <<less

It's good, really good.

I love the super realistic relationship development. They don't fall for each other at first sight. And MC is ridiculous and adorable. I LOVE the way the author set up the different types of news/gossip/editing/cutting and how real life isn't portrayed accurately by TV. And also the way power is portrayed is well done; ML starts off as super popular already but he's not as OP as MLs in other showbiz novels. It's great.

Spoiler

When MC was just a junior actor who didn't know what to do when the cameras were on him and appeared fake/scheming on TV, felt very real. Only he knew that he didn't have bad intentions inside, but his tacit agreement and inner guilt/conflict was very well done! Also his initial awkwardness on camera for the first episode of the travel show and inner conflict (should he go greet people etc.) and it being misinterpreted by netizens/antifans/etc. all super relateable.

[collapse]

The MC/ML relationship is also super well done.

Spoiler

My favorite was that phone call they had, where they gave each other acting advice. And that their first film on the set, ML (despite being more popular than the MC) realized he could learn a lot from the MC. It's not a unilateral, ML is the top of the entertainment industry and best actor/richest guy/most powerful guy either. And that's super realistic.

[collapse]

Also the villains were very well thought out. The novel felt grounded in reality the way few other celebrity or showbiz novels are. Villains have other goals and don't just jump out for no reason. They also rarely act as dumb or extreme as commonly portrayed in other novels. People know how to cut their losses and move on.

The plot overall is pretty slow. I would have liked a bit more excitement, but overall this was very immersive for me. The side characters and supporting cast were all very thoroughly portrayed as well. And I greatly enjoyed that the ML

Spoiler

chose a different path from the MC.

[collapse]

Spoiler

Also loved that the ML couldn't just "cover the sky with one hand" like MLs from typical showbiz novels. Even when he entered the entertainment industry as a boss, he still had to learn from his elders and it wasn't like those hilarious showdowns where 40-60 yr old businessmen are begging for 25 yr old ML's attention (like in other novels).

[collapse]

Spoiler

Even the persistent villain (forgot his name, the other top idol in the company) mostly just had some snide remarks and posted some SUS news. Nothing like how other novels have them sabotaging the set or trying to hire assassins...

[collapse]

Translation was great for the most part, leagues better than 99% of showbiz novels. Only a few times was I kicked out of the reading by awkward wording (eg: I super prefer antis over "black fans"). KinkyTranslations has great taste in novels/writers! <<less

Not a bad story but it’s just hard getting immersed in it. I don’t feel much attachment towards both MC or ML. I feel like a lot of events are just getting narrated, there’s no special connection or immersion. The part I enjoyed most was the camaraderie between the group during the reality show. I skipped ahead too and there’s still not much development.

Rating: 4.5. I round up to 5 in favor of the novel.

First of all, I thank the translator for his work.

Warning! The review was written with the help of a translator, take care of your eyes.

MC is not OP, unless he is very lucky, as the author himself has mentioned many times. Ran Ling loves to play and his work, and he is willing to work for a goal. He may have opportunities to achieve this goal. But the MC may not agree to them, or the opportunity itself will... more>> float away. Of course, Ran Lin is not a saint, he simply has the beliefs and principles of an adequate person.

Spoiler

What I like most is that Ran Ling always thought about how to make things better for Lu Yiyao. Not to say that he was smart when he refused Lu Yiyao the first time, but it was completely understandable. Many may confuse love with affection, let alone such complex topics as finding your own organization. Ran Lin's refusal saved him from a worse outcome where Lu Yiyao was actually wrong. And it f*cking feels so good. This is also the time for Lu Yiyao to understand himself. MS has thought about everything in this regard, which is good. It’s sad that he had to restrain himself during his “friendship” with ML. But, um, thanks for at least he's not as s*upid as he could be.

[collapse]

I love the way the entertainment industry is portrayed here. Poisonous? Yes. Hypocritical? Yes. Does she still have sincerity? Yes. And you can create this sincerity yourself.

The main characters besides MC and ML are not cardboard here. They have their own character and are interesting to watch. But ?? Of course, they could have been revealed better. But for such novels this is already good. And most of all I liked Wang Xi. She has changed the most in the entire novel.

The love story is slow and quite sweet. As for me, MS was “a little” impulsive when he established a relationship with ML. But overall, this is a healthy relationship where both partners are invested in each other's development.

Overall the novel is not bad. Even better than average for its niche. The only thing that upset me was that the acting scenes themselves were... not enough? The filming was either described in less detail or not really described at all. This is sad... <<less

Well-written entertainment + romance novel that I binge read until my eyes hurt.

It starts with a romance slant, with the chemistry between the two leads slowly but surely developing in fun scenarios that are very satisfying. MC is a high EQ straight forward type of character which I very much enjoy. ML is the overthinking handsome gong who is just the right amount of OP and weakness to be endearing.

It then dives more into acting and talent development in that area alongside the entertainment industry intrigue stuff which was very... more>> engaging—I like it when entertainment novels go into detail on the acting and story bits.

The side characters are funny and made me laugh out loud quite a few times. Admire the friendships built throughout the novel. The villains are a bit... predictable, with some attempt at making them more multidimensional but eh, could have pushed it even more. Even so, they still created a good amount of tension and irritation at the situations set up.

Definite favourite! Didn’t want it to end, wished there were more extrassss. <<less

Could be one of the best Entertainment-based danmei. I read this with no expectation at all, and ended up reading this for the whole day, sacrificing my rare holiday from work. This story is just that good.

The beginning of the story between the two main characters, Lu Yiyou and Ran Lin, didn't start in the best way possible. Actually in the first few chapters, I don't really like how the story started. But I decided to stuck with it. After it entered around chapter 16 onwards, I can feel the... more>> charm of the story. Ran Lin is not the usual naive main character. He knew what he wanted, he knew who he is, and he will stand by his principle, not going to look for unnecessary trouble. It's also the same for Lu Yiyou. He was never described as someone who is "cold" or "unapproachable" like other ML, but he is awkward with people, not good with direction, and very slow to warm up. Once he did, he is your friend for life.

I really love the approach of the characters that the writer take. It was never one above the other. They're going on the relationship equally. When Lu Yiyao decided: "I like him" then he go all out in this direction. His careful confession, his thoughts, and his approach to Ran Lin really show the gentleness of a man in love, not the perfect gentleman, but just a man. Ran Lin is also amazing in his approach to his feelings towards Lu Yiyao. He handled it beautifully. I really love both of them.

This story is also very serious. It's so serious it talked about many bad things in the entertainment industry. Stabbing each other in the back to get a role in drama, sleeping with the big boss, making and creating scandals to gather clout, everything included in this story. But I love it, as it gives a touch of realism not just the glory of the entertainment industry. I also love how realistic the "coming out" of the two main characters. Their story didn't just magically end up happy, but they did hard work to make sure their coming out ended up happy.

It's an amazing read, and I would like to recommend it to everyone who would be willing to spend their time reading it. <<less

The translator did a very good job, with just the right amount of footnotes. Thank you for translating and completing the story. It was a very enjoyable read.

I love the camaraderie between the MC and his circle of friends. It was nice to see how supportive they were of each other. No dog blood or too much face slapping.

Nothing short of a masterpiece from Teacher Yan Liang Yu.

Showbiz can be one of those genres that feel really over exaggerated or too dramatic. It’s a really good sub-genre for face-slappers and a lot of authors at least have one showbiz novel.

But Teacher Yan? I recommend if you see her name, just read the novel.

A refreshing, realistic read of not just how acting, getting resources, paparazzi and fan bases can affect those in the entertainment circle but also about homosexuality and growth. Nothing in this novel was introduced just... more>> purely for the sake of comedy, and everything was wrapped up beautifully.

PLOT

Like I mentioned above, the plot is very realistic and the pacing is perfect, all conflicts and drama are resolved in appropriate ways and the path to stardom was written in a very interesting and addicting manner. I really wouldn’t say this book is the least bit boring, each and every chapter had a little more about these characters. We don’t just go through Ran Lin’s development but the futures of all characters, the plot is beautifully wrapped up with an ending that’s sweet in the mouth.

As for homosexuality, it was very realistically portrayed, whether in the entertainment industry, the matters of coming out, influence and what-not, it’s very obvious the author has tried to detach herself and her views from her characters to give each and every one them their own principles and values that match their upbringing up appropriately.

CHARACTERS:

Now this is really what I want to go on and on about. If you know about teacher Yan’s books, you’d know her characters are always fleshed out and have so much development. Each one of them is more endearing than the last.

Main characters:

  • Ran Lin: I love Ran Lin, I love everything about him, he’s logical but emotional, he’s a feeler but he’s also rational. He’s one of our beloved INFJs who can conquer my heart each and every time. He’s not especially overpowered, he works really hard and he knows his limits, every development for him across the book was very tasteful and fulfilling.
  • Lu Yiyao: Yaoyao was one of those characters that really changed throughout the book. He’s probably had the most character development, this kind of guy is too similar to me so I won’t comment too much but it was so refreshing to see Yaoyao learn and grow with the help of Ran Lin and others.
Side characters:

Wang Xi: Wang Xi is a very mixed characters for me, I don’t want to get to into it and spoil anything but she’s very normal. Typically these kinds of woman are the ones that fall into harems first hahaha. She’s really grown throughout the book though, I’m was glad to see how her temperament and views changed. It was really enjoyable.

Han Ze: Ultimately, Han Ze is really one of the most realistic characters in this book. He wants fame, wants to be popular and he’s using what’s given to him to do so. Of course that doesn’t mean he can do whatever he wants, but I really appreciate how well we were able to explore his psychology and the effect he had on the people around him.

Zhang Beichen

Other than Ran Lin, he has to be my favorite character. He’s a pitiful man, a man one would sigh about but also look back and sneer at. Perhaps this is another form of deep empathy but Zhang Beichen probably exists, many Zhang Beichen’s exist. Those who love their friends, want to grow, be big, make money, who doesn’t have those dreams? Who doesn’t want to also experience good things? Many things don’t fall into our laps, but in a way, it seems like it does when we look at it from another perspective right? When we see opportunities and luck fall onto others laps. Sometimes we wonder, ‘Why can’t it be us?’

I won’t spoil too much, but this man really made me cry. I hope he has a good life and he learns of his mistakes, sometimes deep on the quagmire we can’t help but feel we’re the only ones fighting. It’s not our fault but what can we do but carry on?

ROMANCE:

Extremely realistic romance and development from beginning to end, it’s not particularly slow burn but it was pretty profound, I loved how the two later grew together and wanted to be the best versions of themselves for each other. Really beautiful romance.

I truly recommend this book, I honestly can’t recommend it enough, It’s slice-of-life but it’s filled with the flavor of life. It’s truly beautiful.

Thank you for kinky for the amazing translations~ <<less

Honestly, I dropped it around episode 70. My rating of 3 is solely because the novel is well-written, but that’s about it. I can’t even say it qualifies as an entertainment industry novel. While there are scenes of the MC filming, they are never explored in depth. In fact, nothing really is. There are bits of romance, daily life, and filming scattered throughout, but it all feels superficial—like the story just picks up pieces here and there without truly developing anything.

There’s not much of a plot, and overall, it’s pretty... more>> boring. The MC suddenly has a talent for acting, works hard, and then, when it’s time to film, effortlessly outshines everyone. The romance is bland. After the leads get together, they barely spend time together. It’s almost like an online relationship, except even online relationships have more interactions.

The novel lacks emotional depth, stakes, or meaningful character growth. It feels more like a sequence of events strung together rather than a cohesive, engaging story. If you’re looking for a compelling entertainment industry novel or a well-developed romance, this probably isn’t it. <<less

Beautiful! One of my favorite entertainment bl stories. It made me hooked every chapters that I can't stop reading until the end! I loved how dedicated MC is in acting and how he absorbed himself in whatever role he's given. ML, on the other hand is not your typical overbearing movie emperor (atleast, not yet!) BUT is always getting absorbed by MC's acting! I also love how they confessed with each other both leaving a bittersweet feeling. Will re-read it for sure. 5 stars for meee ❤️

Lost sleep to read this so I'm finding it hard to find the right words for a review. If I were to summarize my experience reading this...I would say I was satisfied. And I might never read it again.

The story was only 101 chapters but felt much longer than that, maybe the chapters were longer and more substantial. Unlike many other BLs, it felt somewhat complete and properly fleshed out. Several years pass in the process of the story and the main couple are able to progress together and grow.

Despite... more>> the MC and ML's best efforts, much of this was not quite a wholesome feel good story. This might have been one of the more realistic showbiz BLs, just for the reason that the ML is not some sort of powerful figure who can easily help the MC up and fight against the pressure. Instead, the ML is barely one year older and a couple years more experienced, and is actually on the transition from an idol actor to a serious actor. He's still young, and he's still on the up and coming and also needs to fight against the entertainment circle pressure, albeit with much less difficulty.

In this way, the MC, a very little known figure, inevitably has to face countless problems on his way to the top. I enjoyed the realistic misunderstanding and frustration between the MC and ML, as well as the slow process by which they unraveled this and the MC charmed the ML. I appreciated the amazing friends that stayed true the whole time, especially Xia and Huo. Many things would have been impossible without them being some of the sincerest best friends in existence. I wasn't the biggest fan of how many problems and smearing the MC had to experience, however realistic it was. Our main couple also realistically never publicly came out, instead keeping everything low key.

Definitely not one for idealistic BL romance lovers. And yet the love in the main couple is palpable and heartwarming, and despite them barely being able to meet, the dog food is everywhere. Love them. <<less

A very excellent read. This is me making a conjecture, but when the author said in one of their notes that they "updated daily until the end", I just know that this is the type of work born out of a crystal clear outline—the type where everything has already been written ahead of schedule because the important parts are already planned and listed down. Very textbook style, but even then, still has a lot of heart, which shows that the author is not only experienced but also have skill. I'll... more>> end this review with two lists of bullet points (non-spoiler & spoiler) about what makes this story excellent.

Non-spoiler:

• A very good enactment of the showbiz industry from the perspective of an artist. Scenarios are fictionalized reality instead of a fictional reality.

• Impressionable characterization from all characters. To be precise, even if not everyone is dimensional due to their lack of appearance or relevance to the story, no one spoke or moved like an NPC.

• Witty dialogue! A dialogue that delivers! This is probably what I liked the most about this story from a technical sense. I'm aware that the translator also have a hand in this, but I believe the point still stands, no? The funny banters are funny, the meaningful conversations are layered with intentions, and the foreshadowing statements creep up to you when the plot starts rolling. I'm saying the most obvious things, but if you've been here for a long time, you know that this is not common and must be emphasized upon notice.

Spoiler:

Spoiler

• A BL novel with gay people! Again, if you know you know! It's nice to see so many gay characters (Ran Lin, Zhang Beichen, Leo, Lu Yiyao, Ding Kai, etc.) who, despite conforming to common stereotypes about gay people, branch out from that and show a diverse array of personalities and reflections caused by their s*xual orientation.

• The relationship of Ran Lin and Lu Yiyao is yeah. Where do we start. I know people like us who are so engrossed with fictional realities for the most part of our day tend to yearn for unrealistic ideas about what it's like to love someone or be with somebody, but when I reflect on the relationship of these two people? I'm confident that I can say, "this is what I would like to have someday" and not be rebutted for being unrealistic because they ARE realistic despite being fictional characters. Call me biased, but at one point in the story they actually reminded me of one of my favorite aunts and her husband who have been going strong for 10 years, a couple known by the family as always moving in tandem. The fact that reading their story actually reminded me of REAL PEOPLE... yeah. They're probably the best contender yet for my fictional couple of the year.

• The "villains" are just a bunch of nasty people, which in the context of a modern day society is probably more wicked than people acting like a villain. They also emerged in ways that often caught me off guard, which is new to me! For example, I honestly never expected Ran Lin and Zhang Beichen's relationship to end on a really bitter note. Han Zhen's demeaning attitude towards Ran Lin were also revealed well because his variety show excerpts got a genuine laugh out of me. I don't know if this is just me being gullible, but that surprised me.

• Everyone is so gossipy! Probably the aspect that really made all the comical moments so funny to me. The greatest example of this would probably be Xia Xinran's Republican-themed party. I laughed so much when everyone tuned in to the WangXi–HanZhen conspiracy theory and also when Xia Xinran crawled the floor just to hear Lu Yiyao's confession. Just a bunch of people down bad for good tea, and I love it!

[collapse]

That's all! Another nominee added to my personal "Novel of the Year" award for 2024. Here's to hoping I find more novels of the same caliber! <<less

"The only place you're allowed to cry is in bed" AHHHH GOD LU PLS DON'T DO THIS TO MY HEART

Honestly, this is somehow making me reminisce about Fanservice Paradox. Not in terms of acting per say but more in the lines of navigating the entertainment industry, struggling to deal with online reception & having to stand tall amidst rumors. Showbiz is brutal... & although I'm a sucker for shallow stories where an artist hugs a golden thigh, I also have a soft spot for an MC who powers through with... more>> sheer talent & perseverance alone. It is through luck & his charm alone that MC is able to befriend the right crowd. He doesn't fall into the common pitfalls found in showbiz & actually showcases himself as an actor who prides himself only in his talent/abilities alone. It's a bit farfetched at times, but I live for this sort of "rarity" in the oftentimes shady entertainment industry. Not to say that there aren't genuine celebrities out there, but preserving them is difficult to achieve.

All in all, a really great read. Definitely a refreshing take among its subgenre, especially if you want something more realistic than a rich CEO backing up his lover from start to finish. <<less

One of the best showbiz novels that I have read! MC and ML are not OP, and even in the end -

they didn't publicize their relationship, as what MC said to ML's parents. This is actually very realistic

Realistic showbiz danmei novel, this is what it is. Not exaggerated face-slapping, and from -

good friends to becoming bad friends, this is really real. Even the consequences of the 'villains' are not exaggerated, as some can even be redeemed - maybe, just like ZBC who in the end exited the industry despite all his efforts just to reach the top. It has to be said that too much is bad, because ZBC became too ambitious that it burned him. Though his ending is not bad and is even realistic compared to the other showbiz danmei novels that I read which is too 'cool' (guilty since I actually also enjoy this 🤣).

Anyway, MC is an obscure actor who 'made' his presence known by a misunderstanding in the airport when ML, a rising actor, mistook him for a fan. What happened after that... is what this book is about. 🤣

This is definitely a must-read! <<less

The best entertainment novel I’ve read. The MC and ML are honest and open in their communication with no contrived misunderstandings. The side characters are also great, and the story is relatively realistic in its portrayal. I think the translator did a good job as well! I would def recommend reading.

The book is well written, even though it is at times a little bit boring. It's a typical entertainment story with some romantic elements, but not many. At times it's funny, but not often, and it gets at times repetitive. It's a well-written book, but not really out of the ordinary. But for a book about the entertainment industry, it's normal, and I think in its category it's actually a good book.

It's okay. The romance is nice too.

However, I sensed the author's feelings towards some characters. To plainly destroy them or salvage them. Wangxi's unprofessionalism as an agent got overlooked with a redemption arc. Zheng Beichen should have been salvageable too, even though he was somehow nasty, he was pitiable too. That last scandal wasn't necessary

[collapse]

The author made it seem like anyone or anything not in the couple's world or doesn't necessarily agree with them has to be lowered and disadvantaged. Like, they can't be multiple winners at the same time. For example, the scripts the MC was considered for, which he even liked, suddenly became of lower quality when compared with his own final scripts and all that.

The redundancy of the words 'his friend' and 'his lover' too is somehow... overlysensational?

Anyways, it was a good read. Progressive character and progressive career with mutual feelings of a couple. Realistic characters too. <<less

This novel is one on my list of "I am happy to stumble with this, accidentally." While it's no.1 on my list from the entertainment genre.

I love the plot, the main characters, their friends, esp the Drifters (personally, Gu Jie is the MVP for this novel - I love his character so much 🥰🥰)

Give this novel a chance, it'll definitely make you giddy, sometimes teary and laughing out loud.
