Accidentally time-travel, I was transmigrated in a farming village but I didn’t know anything about farming. In order to survive and settle down, I had to study hard. Finally, my effort paid off, I was admitted as scholar and marry a beautiful husband (Winner in life). Think about it, I was a single dog in my past life always being fed with dog food. It's Surprisingly well done and much better than I could even imagine.

It has well written moment of emotions. I especially like MC's emotional development about his Transmigration and Family things.

Sure it's not perfect, at least so far about MC's previous life background it wasn't written in details. ... more>>
Spoiler

the beginning it implied that he was alone in modern life, and then at some point it mentioned his parent and how he missed them. And another part he's grateful for this new family in a way (IMPLIED) as if he never receive parents love OR his previous parents died when he was young.

Either I read it wrong, or the author was confused, OR the last part I mentioned was right aka he had Good parents but died when he was young. ¯\_ (ツ) _/¯

[collapse]

Anyway it was different from other Transmigrated into Ancient Time. Where the SHOU ML is the (born) Rich one AND Have Great Confidence and Business Skill.

While our MC doesn't have any Golden Finger nor backer except Family Support for Scholar thing. His only skill is he's actually an Educated one, would try his best to earn money by his other skill Writing Novel, and help his family earn money with his Limited Knowledge. So his skill is because he's Educated one, would actually try his Best without being a 'Hardworking' person, and have some Luck.

He's somewhat realistic I'm enjoying it!

Now let's talk about the plot...

It's pure Slice of Life but not a boring one. No Faceslapping whatsoever but Refreshing. Buuuutt... There one Family Drama moments. A Heartaches one and rather Frustrating at the beginning. BUT, no matter how much it frustrating you, you should not skip any of it! You have to get everything clear! Because everything WILL get Clear aka Explained even when it was Piece by Piece.

The Family Complex was Realistic. They all are Flawed in Realistic and Understandable way.

So far only that one part of Family Drama that was Heavy in the feelings. The rest so far is Nice.

I pray the rest of the story is Satisfying till the end! 🙏🙏🙏 <<less

2.5 stars DNF

The mother was horrible, and while the MC talked about being righteous and fair, the fact is he didnt really put this mother in her place... The way she behaved towards the first son and daughter in law was appalling, and frankly, the author's explanation for her behaviour wasn't enough. The relationship between the 3 (mother, son and dil) was also glossed over and everyone became happy with each other, even though what the mother said and her actions were not only abusive but demeaning too. The father... more>> wasn't that great either.

So, although the story was ok, I dnfed the novel. We have the MC transmigrating as the scholar and not the farmer son aspect which was nice, but the truth is that the way the mother was portrayed, made me so angry. The author gave examples of how things went wrong in similar families so I was expecting a dressing down to the mother so she could understand the consequences of her actions but nope...I kept waiting for a "real" wake up call or a slap the very least, but nothing happened and I couldn't get passed that. <<less

To be fair - the translation is decent.

However-

I'm so annoyed with this novel? It's not the worst one I've read but I just can't stop being annoyed at how the author treats the secondary characters! The MC doesn't want to be too involved in the og! Mc's family? I can understand that to an extent. It's scary to think about what would happen if the original family knows that their son was replaced. But, him placing the blame on the older brother so that things are solved relatively easily? I... more>> can't take it. The family has always had a bias towards the younger brother, i.e, the MC - he gets to study, eat better, loved more etc. Older brother is just a tool man. Works in the fields every day. Looks twice as old as he should, obeys everything.

Spoiler

Even his wife doesn't make trouble tbh. But when the wife is pregnant and wants a medical checkup - she's literally skin and bones and works all the time, the mother blows a fuse? Money could be used on her precious second son? Excuse me? The parents hit the eldest when he finally erupts at this because he just wants his wife& child to live. His head is bleeding & the parents are pissed the second son is back from his job in town because eldest called him to come earlier, knowing his parents only listened to mc? Like miss ma'am, your eldest is also your son & has a head injury? They object to MC taking eldest to the town to see a doctor to save money? What was the final straw for me was the author trying to justify the life-long ab*se by stating that the parents hate the eldest & the eldest owes them because when he was a literally child he offended a noble and the family lost money and job in town, making them poor farmers now. Like, if you hated him so much, then sell him off, kill him, don't have him marry to make another person suffer for what you believe are his sins. &Amp; How does our genius MC resolve it? Oh, the parents are harsh but actually love eldest too. No apologies, just mother half-heartedly letting the eldest eat good food. The novel is very clear that all parties agree that eldest is being punished because of his own sins. MC even tried to push the blame of things getting to this point on the eldest saying that he should have tried to make things better for himself instead of pulling back even more to appease his parents hatred? This made me want to hit MC, especially since eldest didn't even remember why this was happening. I kept it aside thinking I might come back later but I think I'm never going to.

[collapse]

Is this the worst novel ever? Nope. But I hate it. If you're someone who gets annoyed by the things I've described, then steer clear. <<less

It was so good!

I wasn't expecting too much tbh. But I think it was satisfactory. He rose with his own talent and intelligence, and leave a big impact on the country. He was content on what he has, simple accepted what was given and doesn't want more. Truly a one of a kind transmigration story. Although there are some aspects they could have expound more (his past, other characters, the children, etc), but overall this was a good read.

(This made me log in my NU after so many years... more>> just to rate this story. Lols) <<less

I really dislike this novel.

The MC's mother is absolutely awful - a terrible person and mother. The MC is just as cowardly as the oldest brother for not telling her how your actions affect the eldest brother, who is the way he is because of them.

I feel sorry for the oldest brother and his family. I can't stand reading this.

Wow, never thought I'd drop a farming slice of life novel after a long time. I usually finish reading no matter how bland the story is, but christ almighty, the story pissed me off. Agree with the review before me, we pretty much had the same reason for disliking this.

The sole reason I dropped this was the whole Mc's family dynamic, specifically the mother. She's almost like the dollar store version of that nasty mother from "Fierce Husband". I was waiting for MC to give a good but stern talking... more>> to about how his elder brother was treated, but nope. Like, the woman could've killed her own son, and the MC, as a man from modern times, didn't find this disturbing? Yes it's not his 'real' family, but just, bruh. That whole affair just pissed me off so bad I had to drop reading before my blood pressure rises. <<less

Good story. Complete and understandable. Maybe more of a 4-1/2, but still fun.

The humor is yin-yang, sly and not face-slapping. The situations and resolutions, more real. As are the ML and his family.

Slice of life, and not world-shattering, a good read. Start is a bit meh, but by the end I really appreciated it.

I really don’t know why this has such a low rating! It’s not a 5 but it should be at least a 4?

The beginning isn’t great translation-wise but the good thing is it gets better and better.

The story is very slice-of-life and similar to another one I’d read before with more focus on the officialdom but not really the politics of the court.

If you like SoL, ancient times poor to rich and career building, I highly recommend this story! I’m usually pretty picky with translation quality so although this didn’t... more>> start out well for me, the translation gets better and it’s definitely bearable. <<less

Ok there's nothing much interaction between MC and ML in start and I don't know how they fall in love with each other like they wont meet and all of sudden after latren festival they holding hands and that's it nothing is detailed like how his exams went on and like I thought it would be same as “ the ugly manly husband” or Lu dairy or Li one novel where the education at least is bit explained and exams are explained I guess author don't know about much he... more>> simply wrote down and he got official line which is good because I have read some where the doctor even become farmers so I hate such type if you have previous life knowledge you should use it in another life bah!

But here our MC previous life is bit complicated he said he was a lonely person then how that person was pampered then he missed his family I don't know what author though or might forget about everything so I don't know

ML is like just pampered young master not like other ger who are not favored at home or do work at home so there marriage till end I don't understand there interactions

Although the novel is most likely about how he tried to change the world with his power bit of slice of life

Mostly I hate the mother who only favor youngest not the eldest and always thought about money nothing else. Even MC feel that's too much he used to live lavish life then other part said he don't I don't know its bit complicated. But seems fine for me I mean I just read about 50 chaps with interest then I just read while passing my time that's it <<less

This novel was really good and doesn't deserve such bad ratings. It was kinda rough in the beginning, translation and plot wise, but it got better in the middle and great at the end.

Liao Tingyu, is a flawed man but the character development throughout the novel was great. He changed and showed growth. His husband, Huang Zilan, needed more character development and more screen time. He was mostly a background character in a sense.

But, overall, it was a good read. Wish they could have touched more on certain things but... more>> I liked it. <<less

A pretty good read if you are interested in a poor-to-rich, powerless-to-powerful type story with a protagonist who takes the imperial exam and gets more power that way instead of farming (like in other stories).

Overall, I'm not sure I particularly enjoyed the writing. One plus was that the side-characters had a strong sense of realism (the conflicts in the family, the mother favoring the younger child, some of the side character romances, things didn't go smoothly all the time etc.) which meant more complex characters than paper cut-out villains.

The blandness... more>> of the story might have been due to the translation, which made a lot of the story a bit weird and difficult to understand. It was difficult to immerse in the actual storytelling when the english could have used some editing (and grammarly).

Overall, it was okay, a lot of telling, not showing, but that's to be expected in CN novels of this style. I skimmed a hella lot after the first half. <<less
