Good story. Complete and understandable. Maybe more of a 4-1/2, but still fun.

The humor is yin-yang, sly and not face-slapping. The situations and resolutions, more real. As are the ML and his family.

Slice of life, and not world-shattering, a good read. Start is a bit meh, but by the end I really appreciated it.

This novel was really good and doesn't deserve such bad ratings. It was kinda rough in the beginning, translation and plot wise, but it got better in the middle and great at the end.

Liao Tingyu, is a flawed man but the character development throughout the novel was great. He changed and showed growth. His husband, Huang Zilan, needed more character development and more screen time. He was mostly a background character in a sense.

But, overall, it was a good read. Wish they could have touched more on certain things but... more>> I liked it. <<less

It's Surprisingly well done and much better than I could even imagine.

It has well written moment of emotions. I especially like MC's emotional development about his Transmigration and Family things.

Sure it's not perfect, at least so far about MC's previous life background it wasn't written in details. ... more>>
Spoiler

the beginning it implied that he was alone in modern life, and then at some point it mentioned his parent and how he missed them. And another part he's grateful for this new family in a way (IMPLIED) as if he never receive parents love OR his previous parents died when he was young.

Either I read it wrong, or the author was confused, OR the last part I mentioned was right aka he had Good parents but died when he was young. ¯\_ (ツ) _/¯

[collapse]

Anyway it was different from other Transmigrated into Ancient Time. Where the SHOU ML is the (born) Rich one AND Have Great Confidence and Business Skill.

While our MC doesn't have any Golden Finger nor backer except Family Support for Scholar thing. His only skill is he's actually an Educated one, would try his best to earn money by his other skill Writing Novel, and help his family earn money with his Limited Knowledge. So his skill is because he's Educated one, would actually try his Best without being a 'Hardworking' person, and have some Luck.

He's somewhat realistic I'm enjoying it!

Now let's talk about the plot...

It's pure Slice of Life but not a boring one. No Faceslapping whatsoever but Refreshing. Buuuutt... There one Family Drama moments. A Heartaches one and rather Frustrating at the beginning. BUT, no matter how much it frustrating you, you should not skip any of it! You have to get everything clear! Because everything WILL get Clear aka Explained even when it was Piece by Piece.

The Family Complex was Realistic. They all are Flawed in Realistic and Understandable way.

So far only that one part of Family Drama that was Heavy in the feelings. The rest so far is Nice.

I pray the rest of the story is Satisfying till the end! 🙏🙏🙏 <<less

It was so good!

I wasn't expecting too much tbh. But I think it was satisfactory. He rose with his own talent and intelligence, and leave a big impact on the country. He was content on what he has, simple accepted what was given and doesn't want more. Truly a one of a kind transmigration story. Although there are some aspects they could have expound more (his past, other characters, the children, etc), but overall this was a good read.

(This made me log in my NU after so many years... more>> just to rate this story. Lols) <<less

The mother was horrible, and while the MC talked about being righteous and fair, the fact is he didnt really put this mother in her place... The way she behaved towards the first son and daughter in law was appalling, and frankly, the author's explanation for her behaviour wasn't enough. The relationship between the 3 (mother son and dil) was also glossed over and everyone became happy with each other, even though what the mother said and her actions were not only abusive but demeaning too. The father wasn't that... more>> great either.

So, although the story was ok, I dnfed the novel. We have the MC transmigrating as the scholar and not the farmer son aspect which was nice, but the truth is that the way the mother was portrayed, made me so angry. I kept waiting for a "real" wake up call or a slap the very least, but nothing happened and I couldn't get passed that. <<less

I really don’t know why this has such a low rating! It’s not a 5 but it should be at least a 4?

The beginning isn’t great translation-wise but the good thing is it gets better and better.

The story is very slice-of-life and similar to another one I’d read before with more focus on the officialdom but not really the politics of the court.

If you like SoL, ancient times poor to rich and career building, I highly recommend this story! I’m usually pretty picky with translation quality so although this didn’t... more>> start out well for me, the translation gets better and it’s definitely bearable. <<less

A pretty good read if you are interested in a poor-to-rich, powerless-to-powerful type story with a protagonist who takes the imperial exam and gets more power that way instead of farming (like in other stories).

Overall, I'm not sure I particularly enjoyed the writing. One plus was that the side-characters had a strong sense of realism (the conflicts in the family, the mother favoring the younger child, some of the side character romances, things didn't go smoothly all the time etc.) which meant more complex characters than paper cut-out villains.

The blandness... more>> of the story might have been due to the translation, which made a lot of the story a bit weird and difficult to understand. It was difficult to immerse in the actual storytelling when the english could have used some editing (and grammarly).

Overall, it was okay, a lot of telling, not showing, but that's to be expected in CN novels of this style. I skimmed a hella lot after the first half. <<less
