Xu He had been his sister’s control group since he was a child. His elder sister was fair, juicy and good at giving birth. She was the heart of the Xu family, a flower in the village, and the talented people who wanted to marry her lined up from the village to the back of the mountain.

The little brother was only good at cooking, and he was busy from the stove to the field all day long, and no one paid attention to his disheveled face. People in the village talked after dinner, how the same parents had two very different children. With his sister as a comparison, it must be more difficult for He ge’er to marry.

However, there were many young men looking for Xu He, but these people who got close to him were all to find out about his sister. Xu He had been used to it for many years, but recently, even Zhang Fangyuan, who was not doing business in the village, wanted to get something from him.

After inquiring, he tried to hide, but he was stuck on the way home, but the man said: “He ge’er, your cooking is delicious, and it will be even better if you are my fulang.”

The title sounds a bit awkward and from my experience in MTLing it should mean like a complex or obsession, smth. (Title should be: "Rebirth: Married a Fulang That Likes to be In-Control") It's an MC-seme BTW. With half-faceslap and half-revenge after rebirth. MC was a waste that died as a tool man (transl: tricked to be used as a cover by some scum) and for his second life, he is bent on following his uncle's advices to straighten up as it was his previous regret. And this is where... more>> he met the poor ger. Keyword should be REBIRTH. He was not transmigrated from any other timeline but just went back at some point of the past.

The shou (ML) is a ger that is not really good looking which is a rarity. It's cute as it tells in detail the progress of romance. I like that it isn't a flash wedding nor a love at first sight and the story gave full details of their relationship development. MC is a pig butcher so he is buff, tall, strong and intimidating. In the past life he is a gangster that ended tragically but is now determined to settle down and find a wife. This novel details all the farming and working life in the countryside. They do not have a golden finger but is just making legit hard work selling their things and I appreciate that part. MC has the classic scum family but had was character development so that pretty fine. I like that the couple were not blind holy mary that just helps everyone but is sufficiently careful around others.

My favourite part is when they seriously talked their heart out. (Communication is sexy!) I appreciate that even though MC is such a naughty rouge most of the time he likes to talk things out and make sure that ML was able to understand him. He never treated ML as an accessory as per ancient ger culture but as a partner, as a husband should do.

So why did I call it "half-faceslap and half-revenge"? Because it was not the focus of the story. I like that they are such humble couple that just sincerely works hard to improve their lives
Spoiler

and there may be hidden high-ranking relative and they later had a golden thigh to lean on when it got to the city arc but that was just it and it was not emphasized. I like that they are still humbly in-touch with the countryside till the end. Both faceslap and revenge helds very little part and most of the time the scum people got karma on their own. Fanwai had the stories of the kids as grown-ups btw. It's nice to see.

[collapse]

All in all, I am personally satisfied with this story. It is a relaxing countryside-business read but it also has enough complexes that will keep you interested and not bored. I like character development within the village and the different kinds of people they met. It's not just simple "if you are not for us you are automatically enemy". So even the minor characters are quite 3d. <<less

MTL'ed and finished happily.

It's a slice of life kinda story. You see someone having a second chance after his miserable and ruined (most of it bcoz he was immature and unwise-which made him arrogant and be used by others- before) life and making it to the end with HE.

Unfortunately for me the ending isn't really satisfactory. Some characters doesn't get their stories continued since its only retelling both main characters ZFY and XH's story.

No revenge nor face slapping intentionally. The "villains" just got served bcoz of their own bad deeds.... more>> Karma just did it best in this story tbh.

If you want a fun non dramatic story, this one is quite good. <<less

Although it is definitely not as exciting as other farming/slice-of-life novels set in Ancient times, this novel is still quite good! In fact, I think it's a nice read for when you're getting a bit tired from the usual 'golden finger = quick success' and 'unrealistic cannon fodder = face-slapping.' This novel does indeed have both of these things, but it's done in a relatively mild manner. So things feel a lot more chill, and there's less of a reason for suspension of disbelief.

SUMMARY:

The MC (Gong, Zhang Fangyuan) had lived... more>> his first life as a waste that died old and alone inside of a home long-abandoned in the village. After dying, he woke up to find out that he had gone back several decades in time. Specifically, when he was young and hearty still, his reputation was a little ruined, but if he worked hard, the world was his oyster. Of course, as someone who had died alone previously, his first move is to get a wife/husband for himself. It's just that he ran into some bumps in the road.

Fortunately, there's the ML (Shou, Xu He), a promising Ger who was unappreciated in his family. The two of them begin their slow but steady development; having children, developing businesses, making connections, etc. They're not the most ambitious people, but wanting to make sure that their family remains prosperous, they continue to work hard until the very end -- all the while, making sure that they do not forget their roots.

THOUGHTS:

Because what I read was mostly in MTL (readable MTL, mind! It was at least 75-80% comprehensible), I won't be doing a full review. But, I can still share some of my thoughts. For example, I thought that the characters of this novel are really interesting. There are lots of layers to them. The person you think would remain cannon fodder till the very end manages to climb up out of the pit through hard work (rather than being buried there forever because of the MC and ML's aura lol). In this way, the novel can be seen as a lot higher in quality when compared to other novels of the same kind.

The romance development was also quite good. And the setting was very realistic (at least, based on what I've read from other CN novels, and researched along the way) and well-established. I guess, if there's anything to complain about, it is honestly a bit dull sometimes. There were several points were I was tempted to stop reading, but I continued because I figured it was close enough to finishing XD. And this is me, who loves these kinds of slow, poor-to-rich, slice-of-life novels. So, IDK how it might be for those who lack the same interest.

RATING: 3.75/5

If I were to rate this novel based on my usual criteria it would be... Characters - 9.5/10; Romance - 7.5/10; Setting - 8/10; Plot = 5/10. Hence, why I gave the following rating! It really is pretty good, and I think it deserves a read. I will definitely come back to it when the TL is completed one day, else, IDK what I might have missed with the MTL. <<less

Story is nice and fluffy, slow-life. MC gong is not your overbearing president usually found in BL and ML shou is not a helpless white lotus. There is no annoying overly dramatic and extreme family members. The only downside is the translation.

I liked it, it's a slow love. There is no golden finger or inventions from the distant future, everything is done with the MC's past experience. MC is a roguish rascal and ML is a quiet and aloof ger. What attracted me the most was the development of interpersonal relationships, everyone changes and small details become the breaking point to change. There are some slaps here and there, but in the end there is reconciliation for a better future.

Spoiler

Among all the conflict resolutions, the one that impressed me the most was that of ML's sister. She believed that she could have a good life with her husband but it was not like that, she suffered a lot and more considering that she went from being a spoiled girl to being an oppressed daughter-in-law. Her husband is a character who started out as "good" and went awry along the way. Everything she lived through made her change her temperament. The best thing is that she was able to change for the better in the midst of the difficulty. And she was rewarded with her son. That little boy was quite intelligent and I always love and respect his mother, especially he tried hard so that mother would be a "flower" again, he indulged his mother while suppressing his father and stepfather (the concubine). It was comforting to read that little part where he defends his mother and suppresses his father (grandmother and concubine) because everyone used his money and therefore had to obey him 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 It was so rewarding!

[collapse]

Perhaps my only confusion would be the extra chapters, but hey, that doesn't matter. I really liked the ending and that extra with all the little ones 🥺✨😭I would have liked to see more of the little buns, but hey, they could have their own novel (hopefully). I will read this again in the future~ <<less

I quite enjoyed it! More than I expected, it's a nice story that ties both human relationships and expanding business quite sincerely. Although there's definitely still elements of op buffs, at the end of the novel I felt satisfied that I can really call them business men. Not just one business, but finding opportunities to grow their wings and building a stable career and family life (clan) out of it.

For those who wants to read -- definitely give it a try! It's interesting because the MC (gong) had lived through... more>> life before, but he didn't come from a transmigrated future. What he knows is only abit more, he's still a local! Not just that, but this novel gives the full set of building business, getting rich, face slapping relatives and having kids (kids studying at school) building a big house etc. It's very nice for us rural family life enjoyers.

Also, it's quite realistic. The relationships between family members and disharmony between people are portrayed nicely. There's not alot of face slaps in this novel, and no permanent evil (but still enough to be satisfying don't worry!). Family members can be annoying and frustrating, wanting riches and opportunities from you when you're trying to be stable. Yet, relationships are complicated to navigate. It's not like you can just cut them off just because they pisses you off or is greedy/selfish. Either way, I found the way this novel navigate familial situations very surprising. I recommend it!

It's a karmic cycle where bad are returned with bad, but people do and can change and adapt into becoming different. Even if they don't -- through time, tension seems to ease and characters shift into a different mindset from how they are before, how their experiences have developed them as people.

The sister eventually became an honest person, not only that, but her son takes care of her afterwards. It's very nice and I'm actually very impressed the novel portrays complex family dynamic very simply and quite well! <<less

Story is good translation is bad. A lot of missing sentences, missing paragraphs, might as well go reading google translate. Strange I read 2 other novel already from this translation group n both is great translation but why when it come to this it's horrible! The wrong grammar is still fine but the missing paragraphs n sentences or missing ppl's name mentioned make it totally different meaning, that's unacceptable. Weird thing is whatever that's very hard to understand in google translate I can still refer to the translation n get... more>> the meaning so I have to read both sometime n that's how I know there's soooo many missing paragraphs or sentences or dialogue in the translation. Hope someone fix it, such a shame this is a great story.

Story itself is very relaxing. Not much face slapping. I don't like that they r still too nice with the uncle n the mother in law. With the mother in law I know it's hard to say, he got treated like a s*ave but the parents did save her. There's life gratitude there but it's just ugh. I feel really bad for Xu He there. But then I hate the fact that he's so stingy to MC. Even ice cream cost a cent extra he's reluctant for his husband. That's the money he earn u know why treat him like tht. The part where they highlight his stinginess rlly irritate me n make me dislike xu he. Towards other yeah fine but it's unacceptable he behave tht way towards MC bcause whatever he have it's thanks to him. Ofc they work together too but the financial should b control by both. So yeah those who said it's Mary sue it's not, they have flaw in their character they r not perfect but beside their good luck in business, they r very realistic ppl. I just felt the ending rush so 4 star :v <<less

To be honest, I didn't feel bored reading this. I love slice of life and the pacing of this story is just right. There may be things that I thought would become like this but didn't turn out like that maybe the author forgot or just change mind. Which doesn't really affect the story itself. At first, I was skeptical that they both didn't fell right away or love at first sight but I realize it was actually just perfect! They became friends first then later on found warmth with... more>> each other ❤️❤️ They took time but it wasn't even a long time! Just right!

From poor to rich but stayed humble. They met bad people but still able to defeat them. I really appreciate this story and I especially love the extras! ❤️❤️ I undoubtly recommend this for those people who wants to read slice of life fluff, poor to rich, business/merchant. ❤️ It's a 4.8/5 for me! ☺️☺️❤️ <<less

I like the story, the beginning when Xu He and Zhang Fangyuan started to fall in love was very sweet. Then they slowly grow and develop from village to city. Problems can be solved and this couple got a healthy relationship, there is no misunderstanding.

The children also have interesting stories, I personally prefer the character of Rui Li's (second child) compared to Rui Jin. Rui Li's love story with student Ji Zhexi is also very sweet, from a poor vilage kid to a top student passing the state exam.

Overall I... more>> like everything, sweet, funny and calming.

Supporting characters also have significant growth.
Like Xu Shao Chun who has annoying and narcissistic traits has turned into a wife who always gives in to the Fei Lian Family and a good mother to her son. Ms. Xu also had significant changes. She has gradually changed from a selfish mother to a more understanding mother.

If you're looking for a calm story, that doesn't rush you to find out the end... this is the story for you <<less

It's one of the best rebirth fulang novels I've ever seen! MC Zhang is not from the distant future, but just 40 years ahead and had a life full of traumas and mistakes.

Spoiler

His mother died beaten / drowned being slandered of having cheated on her husband. But I don't know if it's true, that's right in the first chapter and the father became a drunkard and died early, leaving a teenager Zhang with a big inheritance for a small village. Zhang is a strong man and a talented butcher. He hated the village because of what happened to his parents and the slurs. He went to the city and became something of a bandit in the eyes of the village. Anyway, it had a sad ending and he was reborn in his 20s at the height of his strong body.

[collapse]

As for our ML, Xu He has a miserable first life as well, but he is a hardworking, kind and tall ger which is outside the standards of the time. He has a good life with Zhang in their second life.

Spoiler

Their romance starts off slow, but after Zhang's uncle spills some truths about courting someone you love, our MC goes on the attack and goes to have a cute wedding with Xu He. We will also discover that Xu He is actually an adopted son of the Xu family, the father likes him, but the mother treats Xu He like a s*ave. The father is almost never at home because he works outside for the lords. Soon Xu He grew up with low self-esteem, but with a very pragmatic outlook, not caring about the opinions of others or his mother, turning a deaf ear to her complaints.

[collapse]

Hoping that Xu He and MC Zhang can open more profitable businesses in the future. A good romance of lifestyle, growth as a couple and growth as a person. There are some slaps in the face, but the focus is on making life as happy as possible without caring about the opinion of others. <<less

I would be honest, if not for the fact I trust the good review and rating, I would stop at the first 10ish chapter of this novel.

The beginning of this novel wasn't exactly my favorite, but I 'endure' while keep chanting "marry he ge'er (ML) " eagerly to keep my mind calm. Lol

Anyway things already start good since MC already know who to marry with. And the rest of the story keep getting better after marriage.

Smooth life in Slice of Life novel without any Exaggeration scenes. No unnecessary drama whatsoever.... more>> No plain scenes. Everything was well written with the interaction between other characters.

No Villains, just Flawed People so far. No face slapping, just people enduring some hardship from wrong choices.

But everything was wrapped nicely. And our MC and ML keep thriving because of their Hardworks and trust between each other.

It's Truly Really Really Good Novel okay!!! Worth the time! And Relaxing... ( ◜‿◝ ) ♡

Pray the rest of the story is as Good and Satisfying!!! 🙏🙏🙏 <<less

All good, lot character improvements too.

MC is a very good businessman, though most of the time many details are skipped here but doesn't make it too obvious. of all characters in the whole novel, I loved the fulang best.

The kids are also interesting, especially the last extra. I hoped to see an ending for Ruili too though... oh well...

This is one of the top bl I've read. Its really good, dont base on the low review and give it a try.

The relationship between the ML and MC is healthy, the MC (gong) is not like other gong that's over possessive like the other commenter said. If you're into farming/slice of life genre you'll like it.

I login just for the sake of writing review...

This is so good!

I mean, the plot is a bit of Mary Sue, you know, the kind of "easy coincidence" for the protagonist. He helps many people and those people return the favor ten folds. It's really show that "Helping Other People Is The Same As Helping Yourself".

The antagonist got what they deserved but not excessive like, there are no killing or plotting revenge viciously here. Just like the protagonist always said "let the matter take it's course", just let it be.... more>> So it's more like "I regret why did I target other people so much and can't content with what I have" for the villain. It's really point out the proverbs "You Reap What You Sow".

I also somewhat agree with how Xu family ended with Xu He has this attitude "let go of the past cause it doesn't matter anymore as what I have now is all I need". He doesn't forgive them but didn't cut off contact (i mean, disown them) like other protagonist does, he maintain superficial familial piety just enough for how much ancient people put so much important in it.

I just think that it makes more sense they do that instead applying a more modern way of thinking "they have abused me so I don't want to do anything with them again" --> it's not selfish but it doesn't match up with Ancient China that put more weight in familial piety instead of human rights, they don't even have human rights concept yet at that time!

The romance is simple Chef's Kiss 💋 💕 They are many couple formed and told in here (including their children's) and it's so ugh angh guuh (it feels so ummmh that I can't even properly convey what I mean to say)...

And the last is I just want to say...

Spoiler

The big bro Ruijin's spouse is predictable huh 😌 I mean it's so obvious from the first how the author wrote it when the childrens first meet Luo Luxing (if I remember the name right) in front of their new house. The waiting from their childhood sweat heart, Ruijin's exam, a little dispute at the end, untill they got married was so satisfying.

While Ruilin! I already have sense it when he follow his dad into the mountain then met a hunter boy who is silent, a little cool teen like his brother 😂 and their interaction is somehow tingling my reader's intuition. So I got confused of why after that intersection there was no mention of that boy again.

Thus, after the reveal in the last chapter I feel like WOW and you don't know how happy I am ☺️☺️☺️

But the author didn't write Ruilin's marriage 😭😭

It's good I finished it till the end... This is what I'm looking for the dynamics of the main couple is good both are good in business and supports each other. The ML didn't become a background. I like how they are really building themselves from scratch. The MC didn't just create his conglomerate by invention or cooking but his skills in butchering then gradually they expand their business in different industries. It's a pity that there's a little extras for the twins their love life is also interesting. This... more>> is like a real farming story not like others because it doesn't feel like those transmigration stories they really struggled and there's no real backer for MC it only comes in the end. But most of MC's journey to become a rich landlord was all done by the combined efforts of the protagonists. I like that their is really no unreasonable and unhinged relatives and they both handled it well. <<less

It's not completely unrealistic in how the MC and ML come into their own as business partners and spouses. The relationship is healthy, sweet, and respectful. This story is unique in how it treats its antagonists too: There's not much in the way of over-the-top face-slapping so much as very believable consequences for their actions. I feel like there were a few missed opportunities though. I don't quite understand why this is a rebirth story if there's not much at stake, aside from Zhang Fangyuan (ZFY) trying to avoid rotting... more>> in a jail cell. There's a moment in an early chapter when ZFY wishes he had been reborn when his parents were still alive, and honestly I would have loved to read that story. I'd also adore a chance of ZFY and the ML, Xu He (XH), meeting when XH was younger so that poor guy could have had at least one long-term friend.

ZFY also has these moments when he recalls things he heard through the grapevine. Part of me wishes that ZFY had personally witnessed their unhappy fates in his first life instead of him just thinking "Oh yeah, I heard my childhood friend died an untimely and violent death while I was in prison. Huh, bummer."

I think the author went to great pains to create a story that was very light and aimless rather than focus on any strong themes of trauma recovery or found family. That's the main reason why I can't rate this story any higher than a 3/5. I see all the chances the story could have taken to grow stronger. That being said, it's a bit of a letdown that the ZFY doesn't really get to process what he's canonically been through on the page. He doesn't struggle with fear of growing sick and feeble again, he doesn't seem to worry about money or hunger, and he rarely seems concerned about XH's fidelity. He seems so untouched by what he's been through that I don't even think it was necessary for this novel to be a rebirth story. Despite how much I complained in the earlier half of this paragraph, the author already set themself up to write a pretty compelling story about two sad and hurt young oddballs finding one another and founding their own family. More than anything I enjoyed the ML, Xu He's, subtle character arc to discovering his self-worth. He's never a timid doormat and he's always established as an equal partner to ZFY but he takes time to believe that while still holding his own against ZFY's strong personality.

I understand this story might be someone's side-project and they might write this to relax. What I wonder though is why the author would establish the existence of ge'ers and not also carve out a place for them in society despite stating a few times that the culture of Jijiu Village treats ge'er's at least slightly different from women. (Also, where are the other ge'er's? There's just one besides XH that I can recall off the top of my head in over seventy chapters. None of ZFY's family members are ge'er's none of the villagers we encounter are ge'er's either.) <<less

I just don't understand nor like, so I'm quit this s*upidness.

MC feel jealous over his soon to be fulang (ML) of Fie xiucai, because the later like He ge'er, that is acceptable.
But to go and in front of so many people and openly reveal this fact that even the ML He ge'er doesn't know, and even offer him that if he really likes He ge'er and is willing to go against his mother to marry him as his main wife, then he (the MC) is willing to give him a chance to compete with him over He ge'er!

But Fie xiucai didn't reveal this to anyone befeore, and only his mother know and she disaprove of this so he didn't mention this again.

Don't mention that this happen when the the MC and ML are engaged and are going to marry in less than a month!
