The romance wasn’t bad, it happened nicely and smoothly. Although it takes up a lot of space in the story, the novel is still mostly focused on the MC’s occupation and how it develops. I honestly can’t say I like the ML, especially in the s*x scenes, but he passes. The main plot was normal. I didn’t like it but it’s average for showbiz types of BL novels (though it’s modelling?). There was something that stuck out weirdly to me though. The author’s fixation of making China number 1 at everything and the really stereotypical image of Americans. I can understand trying to make China one of the places where the fashion industry is really developed, since Chinese culture would be easier for the author to write. But there’s absolutely no need to emphasise that a million of times. I’m Chinese (Not ABC), and I’m really proud of my country, but I don’t see the need to be fixated upon making our country absolutely number 1 at everything and mentioning that other countries have nothing on China in everything (in the fashion industry and GDP + people/fans). Also, the stereotype of Americans having no culture/manners makes me cringe. I’m sure there’s no need to put down Americans every chance you get. I forgot which chapter, but they mentioned “since America is such a young country with only 200 years of history” or something like that. Feels weird. Also there are racist comments from fans targeting Americans. There are less racism towards Europeans or other Asians and Africans, so I feel like the author has a grudge towards America? There’s not much sexism and there’s even a trans model, so I guess that’s one of the nice things. Conclusion: This is a novel that works as an average novel of the showbiz kind, isn’t particularly well but isn’t horrible (except for the Americaphobia? Is that a word?). I didn’t like it but it seems that how good this novel is depend on the reader’s preferences heavily. Read at your own risk.
Ming Yu and Xi Ze meets in a toilet. Not a very romantic place to meet but this part is my favourite and I think it's really important.
