My Dad is My Mom’s Mortal Enemy

The Shao and Cheng families have been sworn enemies for generations, though few outsiders know the exact details of their feud.

What is known to all is the Shao family’s three cardinal rules:

The Shao family must not cooperate with the Chengs, must not intermarry with the Chengs, and must never appear with the Chengs at any public event.

One day, an adorable little girl looking like a doll, wearing a puffy pink dress, pink hair clip, and pink backpack, walked into the lobby on the first floor of the Shao Group building.

The receptionist thought she was some child who had wandered away from home. But the little girl solemnly said, “I want to see your Shao Group CEO, Shao Chengze.”

Seeing the girl’s pink outfit, the receptionist knew she must be from a wealthy and noble family to dare to address their CEO by his full name. She couldn’t be the daughter of some high-ranking Shao Group executive?

Smiling warmly, she asked, “Little one, could you tell me your parents’ names?”

The girl tilted her head. “My mommy is Cheng Jinlan.”

Cheng…Jinlan?!

Second Miss Cheng Jinlan of the Cheng family?! She never thought she’d see the day a Cheng would set foot in the Shao Group building. What a miracle!

“As for my dad, I’ve come today to get some of Shao Chengze’s hair for a DNA test. Once I have his hair, I’ll know if he’s my dad or not.”

The girl’s crisp words rippled outwards from the front desk through the bustling first floor lobby. Everyone who heard froze in shock, jaws dropping.

Everyone except Shao Chengze, who had just stepped out of the elevator surrounded by a group.

He looked at the girl in pink through narrowed, fox-like eyes.

Cheng Liqi recognized Shao Chengze and covered her mouth in an “ah-oh”.

She decided that even if Shao Chengze wasn’t her dad, she’d have to help Cheng Jinlan get this man. She liked his eyes.

They were just like hers.

So pretty.

Giving a 5 because the story itself deserves a 5. It was enjoyable enough, although sometimes the FL is too tsundere that it borders on annoying, but the ML more than makes up for that. As for the errors in the names, completely agree with one earlier comment that it detracts from the story. It also doesn't only happen to ML's name--in fact, one of the final chapters had me reading the FL's brother kissing the ML until I realized it was the error again. Lmao. However, I'm not taking... more>> a star out of the rating just because I've read other stories in MTL and have rated them a 5 regardless. <<less

I have no idea why it's rated so low. So far the novel is wonderful and the translation is good as well.
I love Cheng Liqi so much she's so cute!
Finding her dad makes up the first twenty or so chapters and the remaining is helping her parents get back together (I hope)

One of the reasons why I enjoy it is because of Cheng Linglan (Liqi's mom) has a cool personality, she's not a push over and it's not like some novels where the romance or "getting back together" is rushed.
One of the things I dislike is the supposed animosity between the Shao and Chengs, in the beginning they act like it's extremely serious and a crime to interact with each other but later on, this is forgotten I want to say?
either way I'm enjoying it and I definitely recommend if you like family novels or romance!

I will say, this is a good story so far. 4/5 stars for the story, my average rating for anything that's good but doesn't hit it out of the ballpark.

However. I have no idea if it's an issue with the original or the translator, but the ML's name always gets mixed up. (I will be calling the mother's love interest the ML here)

It can be a real nightmare to decipher when, at any given time, you have no idea if "Shao Chengze" is referring to The real ML, his... more>> secretary, or another side ML. And when it's messed up, it's basically messed up for the whole scene. It's incredibly consistent. Like you'll go into a new chapter thinking you're reading about ML when it actually means the 2nd ML, and you only realize when things start getting so confusing it reaches a breaking point.

Spoiler

Like this one scene, her mom's fake husband brings the girl somewhere. And she runs up calling him Shao Dad! And I was thinking I'd missed a whole entire chapter when she finally met her dad. So I reread it, like, 3 times before realizing Shao Dad actually meant Shi Dad. =_=

[collapse]

It really, really detracts from the reading experience. And it only happens to ML's name for some reason.

But my advice, if you must read this story, if you see the name "Shao Chengze" or some similar variation, don't automatically assume the book is talking about ML. Anyway, I can't keep up with these mental gymnastics for now, but maybe I'll come back to this story sometime. <<less

FL: Too stubborn and tsundere for my taste but at least she's a good mama.

ML: 10/10 total swoon worthy!

Little Bun: 100/10 cuteness overload!!! She's definitely the MC in this novel!

... more>> The synopsis above happened pretty early on (Chapter 15) so there's plenty of fluffy dad-daughter moments throughout the novel. The Little Bun here is just too precious 😩

But if you're here for the romance tag, IMO, that department was kind of lacking for me as it was only in the last 10 or so chapters when the FL FINALLY fully accepted the ML.

But hey, I'm here for the childcare tag so this novel gets full stars from me!

PS:

Please translator-nim, fix Chapters 52-55 as most part of those chapters are missing 🙏

Spoiler

But the MTL can be read from the sto. Cx website

The only saving grace is the super cute, sweet & smart Liqi.

Translation is like reading MTL and plenty mixed ups on names (not only ML & FL).

Such a disappointment cause I read their other work (You Make Money, I’ll Spend It: Stepmother’s Ultimate Pleasure in the Aristocratic Family) and the translation was 👍🏻.

3-4 chapters missing in akknovel towards the end 😭

Don't be discouraged with the low rating.. It's really a mature love story that encompasses immaturity, inconfidence, lack of trust, in the 1st phase, but indefinite loyalty to each other throughout the time they were apart.

2nd phase is dominated by the cute little princess that brings the 2 back together lifting up all the misunderstandings and grievances..

The story is nicely interwoven between past and present ushering a wonderful future filled with love and blessings..

A must read.

Thanks to the Author and special thanks to the Translator..
