One of the most frequent complaints you might across in the initial chapters' comment section are related to the pace of this novel. The pacing of the Moon's Labyrinth is slow, there is no doubt about that, but the slow pacing for me is arguably one of the best features of this novel. The author dedicates an incredible amount of time, effort, and detail into fleshing out Sungyoon and his interactions with the supporting cast. Sungyoon feels like a real human being - a deeply flawed and broken individual, with... more>> virtues and vices. Who at times has his principles challenged, and struggles to maintain them in the ever increasing odds. Most importantly he's a character who we can connect to, feel for, and look up to. His love for and dedication to his daughter is honestly quite beautiful. And so it is for these reasons and more that I have given this novel a perfect score, and highly recommend it. <<less

There is so much I want to say but I'll keep it short. Its one of the best KR novels I've ever read. The world building concept isn't too strong as of what I've read yet but the plots are reasonable. The pace can said to be both fast and slow. The best part about this novel is that author clearly portrayed the phychology of the characters and their personality development through the story, especially the MC. Unlike other fantasty novels, mu*der is a actual serious case authorities take seriously.... more>> This is a really plus point. Most people are not mindless slaughterers who take mu*der lightly. There is no national discrimation either. It has both serious action pace and slow pace melded perfectly. MC is a mature guy nearing forties in age so you won't see arrogant, silly or ignorant MC. The only bad part about it is that some mothers in this novel are too much of a bit*h that I don't know if there really exist that kind of mother. Overall, it was awesome. <<less

Ch 98 Dad mode is best mode :D. MC progresses steadily. He doesn't take s*upid risks, but still brushes closely with death.

Ch 265

Start this story at a 5 star then take a star off every 100 chapters. What elevated this story was the family dynamic. That storyline eventually gets some closure, but afterwards there isn't a storyline to take over. It's like half the story ends (in an inconclusive manor that needed a lot more follow up.) What remains is half a story about dungeon exploration with a dash of... more>> harem. It's inoffensive but unspectacular by Ch 265.

Well it's time to do my second review :).

So basically ML is a novel about a man being betrayed by its friend and wife, before being riddled with debt. But trough some struck of luck aka the plot, the MC becomes a 'Connector' and can go to the moon to do some dungeon diving and get tons of money.

Pros:

  • Good premise with some twist regarding dungeons
  • Good translation (Thanks Wuxiaworld)
  • Good pacing
  • While not as good as 'The Second Coming of Glutonny', the character growth is quite well done
Cons:

  • Harem, girls fall in love them for BS reasons (one fall in love with the MC because he doesn't give a sh*t about anyone else aside from his daughter)
  • Plot armor, I find the MC too 'good' in combat since he is depictated as freaking genius (quality of his magic power, gems activation time, battle sense...).
  • I don't know why but I can't come to find Shinhae, the MC daugter, as cute or even likeable. Problably because the MC is always pampering her and putting her in some god like position ?

3.5/5. The setup of the premise will leave you rolling your eyes after which the plot progresses to a standard Korean dungeon crawler series, with hints of female affection (s) and father-daughter bonding. The format is as follows: MC grinds in dungeon, MC encounters danger and overcomes it, MC returns and bonds with his waifu candidates and his daughter; rinse and repeat ad nauseam.

The parts I enjoy the most are the times spent with his family (daughter) and to a lesser extent, the sub-dramas surrounding him and the women in... more>> his life. The dungeon crawling aspect is bare-bones, unimaginative and tedious. I often find myself skipping over swathes of text in these sections simply because of how boring it can be. The setup of these parts is in your typical party combat tank-dps-healer setup that you see recycled so often in Korean webnovels of this sort. One person serves as a meatshield, another person whacks at the mob and you've got supporting classes in the back casting buffs and spells. There are a few points of distinction that make the combat unique to this novel (namely, the usage of gems and devices), however this distinction is not a significant or meaningful one - same content, different package.

Overall, the novel is slightly above the standard average amongst ones you can find on this site. It's worth a read, but it is unlikely to captivate. <<less

Very awesome novel, action was intense and fast paced, the characters are not cardboard cut outs but have actual goals and personalities. Power system makes sense and the entire paces of the story was believable and the lore very interesting. The harem makes sense and the girls actually fall for the MC very slowly.

I don't know why the reviewers say otherwise but the MC is believable in having trauma for beautiful women and distrust in people after what happened to him. It took more than half of the story before... more>> he even got together with the 1st one. The MC was a good natured person only to be betrayed by his best friend and wife and for those asking why he did not want to get revenge. He did, but he couldn't, the wife threatened to use custody right for his dauther remember? And she would have won because he had 7 million usd in debt. I honestly could not understand some of the reviews it looked like we read different books.

I loved the interactions on this novel in general. The interactions between the main characters were great. However the problem I have is the supporting cast. There were like 8 other connectors in the novels aside from the mc's party. The reason why every says the final battles were anticlimactic was because evry though alot of people died evry battle they were mobs. The author literally said hundreds died in the multiple battles of Armstrong but no one cared since the characters with names were all alive. Of the 6 supporting connectors. 2 betrayed humanity and fought the MC (one was literally used as a healing potion), 2 tried to kill the MC in due to various reasons (1 was killed off screen). 2 were killed in the 2nd city by the betrayers of humanity. And the last 2 are the best connectors in history so the entire battle group the reader sees evry battle is MC party plus 2 strongest. Like their party doesn't even get mentioned evryone is a mob. The support staff like the mayor and the director go by titles. It's like the author has an issue with names. So even if hundreadss died the reader couldn't care any less.

But overall the story was very satisfying, also loved the epilogue shame we didn't see the romance with the Mc's wives. I wanted to see how he split his attention to them although the story with his children grown up was icing on the cake. The entire journey was awesome. The story started with him being on the ground crying to the moon, buried in debt, betrayed by his wife and best friend. And it ends with him and his family surrounded in love.

Ps The ending forgot about Tim Ross, the dude was a meat shield that was his only purpose lol poor Tim even Aruwen got a better epilogue than you did. <<less

I would probably rate this as a 3.75, so I'll up to a 4. Promet's review is 100% correct across the board, as this is a good example of a legitimately "okay" read. It's not edgy, it's not super soft, the writing is okay, the action is okay, the story is okay. It's okay.

Something I give it a bit of extra credit for is the protagonist, who is a caring father and throughout the entire story consistently acts like it. He's mature but he's 100% NOT a cold sociopath like... more>> so many KR and CN protagonists are. He's fatherly; he's super doting on his little girl, a professional when it comes to business, speaks clearly, does not spazz out at female attention and properly knows how to talk to women without it becoming about romance/sex, reasonably explains why and how he sidesteps the female attention for a good chunk of a story (single father coming off of a horrible divorce and now working off a debt). It almost feels exceptional to have a protagonist be a level-headed adult man who knows how to prioritize and carry out responsibilities. <<less

Hmm. Overall, this is an okay novel. Not good, not bad, just okay.

The setting is solid, and the parts that were revealed bit by bit were okay. I like that author watched out for scientific reality, and put effort to avoid the most obvious blunders (like sounds in space some action movies and games have). With that said, a lot of the setting was far from interesting, and some was confusing (especially the gem colors, but good news is that you should more or less get it in some 150-200... more>> chapters, and it won't be a big problem if you don't).

The plot is generally okay too. The premise was okay, the prologue was a bit too long, which I saw discouraged some readers who left reviews, but it's okay once you pull through it. I wouldn't say that there are any glaring plot holes or unrealistic developments. I only disliked that the author revealed some things too fast and too openly, especially
Spoiler

the part when it turned out that the Fabion were the bad guys pretending to be good guys.

[collapse]

It would be more interesting if the author left clues and let us figure it out on our own.

The characters were okay. They were pretty coherent, and there was major or minor character growth for at least some of them. If I disliked anything, it was that the author began the novel with a very in-depth intro giving us a good outlook of the protagonist, putting a lot of effort into characterization and interactions, yet later there were not enough such moments, and I found myself missing them when present with a lot of somewhat boring grind (boring when it took too long).

Hmm, the final boss
Spoiler

was underwhelming, though.

[collapse]

Romance wasn't anything special, but it wasn't horrible. Yes, it's harem, but it's romance most of the time, and
Spoiler

only the epilogue was a harem ending (the protagonist didn't really respond to other heroines' advances, only thinking that he should face this problem soon, and then we got the epilogue).

[collapse]

Also, contrary to what some people said, none of the love interests fell for the protagonist because he was immune to their good looks. Yes, three of them developed interest in him because of this, yet this was merely a turning point, and they were far from falling for him at that time. Remember that
Spoiler

this dude had great looks once he awakened.

[collapse]

They also didn't fall for him because of his daughter, though they did use her as a way to get closer to him. This was literally the only way they could reach him. If you want specifics, read the spoiler below.
Spoiler
    1. I missed the exact point Jimin fell for MC. I think it was because he stuck to his promise to find out the fate of her father on the moon. That and the way his daughter was very similar to her, and MC very similar to her father. In a way, maybe she had daddy issues.
    1. Jiyoon, well, I think she fell for MC because of his maturity? I can't quite remember. Anyway, his attitude toward her was only a turning point, and she agonized really long about what to do with her feelings coz of circumstances.
    1. The scientist girl (Chelsea?) got protected by MC in a pretty tight situation, and that too more than once later. That, and she interacted with him a lot to check his personality and see if he isn't going to betray Jimin. Plus, she basically fell for gap moe when MC went into idiot dad mode.
    1. Emily didn't fall for MC because of his attitude, but rather because he saved her and her brother's lives. At the very least, it was the main reason.
    1. Grace... Hmm, I don't remember well, but I think she fell for him because he helped and saved her, because he came to her aid, and because he protected her grandma.
[collapse]

With all that said, the romance indeed wasn't that good. The interactions and various events that should've led to big developments were few and poorly fleshed out. Well, this story clearly wasn't really intended to be a harem/romance at its core, and it shows.

Let me also address some points in other reviews that unjustly criticize this novel:

    • the forced plot and plot armor weren't that bad, at least part of them had justification
    • the pity trip was only big in the first part of the novel, and it wasn't that bad, it didn't feel cringe (especially since it got mellower later)
    • again, the daughter isn't a tool to draw in women; she is the only way into mc's heart, and the love interests use it once they develop feelings for MC, and it isn't that author used her as some sort of honey trap lol
    • the way others think of MC as being part of useless group after he awakened is explained later in the novel, and if you read until the end, you'll see what it was truly about and how others like him were affected
    • there are good characters besides MC and his surroundings, and the bad characters are sometimes explained later and you find out why they had a beef to pick with MC or why they weren't simple bad guys
    • I don't think mc's ex-wife and best friend's betrayal was something MC should've seen through, I don't remember well, but I don't think there were any special signs, though MC did admit at some point that he had seen some foreshadows
    • I wouldn't say there was a great problem with narration and descriptions, maybe there was to someone used to fastfood webnovels
    • the MC wasn't dense I think, more like overly suspicious and he did notice the others' feelings later
    • there is at least one good villain, but you have to read until the end, he was crazy but it was exactly why he was interesting
Overall, it was a good (in comparison, not objectively when compared to truly good stories) story for a Korean rpg/dungeon style novel. Those are pretty common, and there's plenty of crap among them. This one was readable, though I had to skim some parts and force myself to read on in the second half a few times to finish it. <<less

Right from the beginning, I was put off this novel.

The story begins with the main character, a successful business owner, being betrayed by his wife and best friend. They ruin his business and his life, leaving him with massive debt and a daughter he can't support. This sounds decent, in theory, but both the best friend and wife were written as the most stereotypical evil characters possible. They're not people - they're cut outs there to say a few cruel words about how pathetic the main character is and how... more>> they only care about money. Even his wife - the woman he married - is just some throwaway gold digger who wants to discard their kid so she can marry a younger man without "extra baggage."... Again, these things aren't necessarily bad, but the entire exchange is just.. poorly done. None of it manages to feel like a really emotional betrayal... probably because there are no emotions from anyone involved - other than the poor, sad main character, who is just devastated to discover his wife was secretly a stone cold b*tch.

It doesn't get better.

New characters are introduced. Usually women, described with about a dozen uses of the word "beautiful", and surrounded by admiring men who are immediately jealous of the main character for being able to exchange a few words with their would-be girl. This isn't one woman - it's every woman. And there are many.

But, okay, we don't all read novels like this for character driven, well-written plots, do we? Some of us are here for magic, for swordplay, for dungeon delving, for training, combat, and conquest. Fine.

That's no good, either.

Growth in this novel comes through loot drops. Better weapons, armor and abilities drop, good. You've "grown". Training? What training. Personal growth? What? No, you just need the next mob killed to drop a nice sword or something. It's all completely random and at the whim of the author. So at best we can see the character struggling to fight with whatever tools and random weapons he's found. Sometimes, this is actually decent. But it's never really great, either. At least not in the first hundred-odd chapters...

There's some underlying mechanics regarding using magical energy to power the loot drops and the main character's growth in this regard, but it's all completely unexplained and handwaived.

Overall, it doesn't feel like the main character is growing in any meaningful way at all.

...

This all sounds pretty bad, but I'm giving this three stars. It's actually not terrible. It's just not particularly good, either. It's something to read if you've run out of more appealing options. <<less

A slightly above average Korean novel that had a 5 star potential but dropped in quality. Would actually rate it 3.8/5 if possible. Anyway, the novel is about the story of a divorced man in his late thirties who struggles to make a living for his daughter and himself after being betrayed by his ex-wife and former best friend. He ended up being a Connector and had to work on the moon and hence the title Moon's Labyrinth. Story was heartwarming and interesting at the start but it gradually becomes... more>> very flat and in my opinion, there is not much character development after a while. In my opinion, one of the biggest villains,

, is probably the most interesting character in the novel. Romance in the novel is also kinda awkward and I was not a big fan of it. Ending is decent so I guess that's one thing to write home about. Would I recommend this novel? Yes, if you are starting to run out of Korean novels to read. <<less

I'm sorry if any part of this doesn't make sense. I am tired as I'm writing this.

I like it a lot, originally I was going to give it 4 stars, but the epilogue was great, so I couldn't not give it 5 stars. I didn't like the climax of the story much, but it was passable.

Villains:

Spoiler

There are actually quite a few antagonists in this story. There's the MC's ex-wife and his former friend. I felt like they were the best overall villains. There way the traitor and his sidekick and followers. He's the real main antagonist, but his motivation reveal was very disappointing. There is the BBEG and its followers who are literally plot devices. It literally has no feelings or personality, and the final fight was really low stakes. Even when the MC got hurt, it didn't ever seen like there was a threat to his life.

[collapse]

The MC has decent character development. The drama part of the story is more compelling than the action, though that's just my opinion. I did think the weapon/power system to be interesting, though a little convoluted at times. The author seemed to notice this as well.

Spoiler

Part of the way through the story, the author introduced universal slot devices. I think that the gem system is good enough, but I don't like how devices were handled. The fact that you had to defeat monsters to get gems, but then you also had to get lucky and wait for the monsters to drop a device that actually allowed you to use your gems was annoying. Fairly early in the story, the MC just stopped getting devices as drops, and started getting them by either defeating minor villains or them being given our sold to him.

It would have been better if devices were man made or something. That way there wouldn't need to be so much plot armor for drops.

This novel had great potential. It had a great start and middle. The story was fresh and unique and the action was overall pretty good. Sadly the pace slowed down and the story went downwards. It's like the author lost energy or something. I just hope it doesn't go down the "A Monster That Levels Up" route and fall face first into the pavement after soaring high into the sky.

Eh... started of strong and had an interesting premise and MC had somewhat of a unique ability. Deal breaker for me was the plot holes and the main characters inconsistency. You would expect the MC to at least have a little awareness about people that have bad intentions after going through something like that in the past but he doesn’t. Like the MC would make it seem like he became much wiser after the past incident but he hasn’t much. Just became less trustful towards woman.

Average at best, slow paced and MC personality is like a wooden log which made any interaction with him painful to read.

The entire power system is also badly explained and new things are added like an afterthought and half of it is not explained (yet?) leaving many questions.

The story do move slow but it’s okay so far. I like how he works hard for his daughter and isn’t thinking about replacing his ex wife after her betrayal or thinking about getting revenge on her ungrateful ass. The only annoying thing like most is all the women who flock to him like flies. I’ll be happy if he stay single and just be friends with those women but I doubt that’s gonna happen. He gets stronger the more he goes the labyrinth and pay off his debt. It’s... more>> a nice story because the MC is kinda dense <<less

Genuinely one of the most enjoyable novels to read that I've found in a long time. The MC gets dealt a very sorry hand at the beginning of the novel, but this isn't a quest for revenge; rather he is struggling to make do (and provide a good situation for his daughter) in a relatably tragic way. Then boom, luck strikes. Things turn around, and while its a little annoying to have every (friendly) beautiful female he comes across fall for him; at least it is for understandable reasons (cute... more>> daughter who he obviously cares for more than anything, serious attitude towards life/work) as well as those to do with his stroke of luck and resultant success. The story riffs off the familiar Dungeon Delving Adventurer in a pretty novel way, and the author's writing is good enough that you generally overlook how massively unbalanced the character's lucky chances/finds are.

TL;DR - Interesting take on the "adventurer goes into dungeons for gear and loot" idea, gilded with feel-good cute kid/happy family vibes and a dash of potential harem. <<less

An ok dungeon novel.

The MC is not your average MC that will get stronger through a strong armor plot etc... No, here, the MC gets out of bad situations because he "thinks" more before acting and with also a bit of luck. So this is quite a breath of fresh air here.
Still, his "visible" enemies are unfortunately like the classical wuxia "young masters": arogant, overbearing and full of killing intent, waiting to be face-slapped by the MC and you can see it coming chapters before. Luckily, there are few of them, mainly two in the first 130 chapters.

The world construction is quite interesting with a bit of mystery about what happenens with the dungeons, but the plot is really not that great as you can guess what's going to happen way before it does, mainly because of two things: (1) there are few chapters (354 chapters in total) and (2) there are more slice of life chapters than action. It is a bit of an issue because you know that each time there is some action, the plot is moving further, but it is also a pain, because the action is far from being epic and feels almost boring, such as some slice of life chapters.

I won't say that it's a must read for me, but that it is still a bit pleasant to read compared to most of the novel of the same kind. :)

Its like reading those game world novel the combat is good and all but I want to read what happens outside the dungeon

The beginning is a little weird, okay it's like the wife is on a extreme single minded path to destruction and a normal person would notice these extreme signs unfortunately MC was basically on the path to success never meeting an obstacle until it piled up to the worst day.

The story goes on fine with MC growing as an adult, cliche harem tropes which are cute, and some... more>> repetition which I don't think you notice unless u binge read

Overall I really like this story just have certain thought and feelings that prevent me from rating 5 right now

great novel. Has a pretty good grasp on character relationships and even though a lot of it seems a bit repetitive, they make it so that we have a clear grasp on the growth of the MC's strength. The beginning is very generic in the premise but unlike other novels, this one keeps the MC in the shits for quite a bit, this part shows us the strong motivation from the MC to keep moving forward even when he's at his lowest and this motivation keeps pushing him to do... more>> what he needs to survive and thrive, this differs from others where basically after the MC hits their lowest they immidiately get some bullsh*t thing that they use to become op.

The MC being a 1st gen and have instantaneous gem activation speed compared to 2nd gen and 3rd gen connectors and him having a really high ceiling of gem activation is explained to the audience albeit very far into story.

the harem part is very underdeveloped and doesn't really matter to the overall plot that if you remove it and keep only the first girl as the lover, just about nothing changes in the story

and dont worry, the MC will get his revenge in due time <<less
