At eighteen years old, Lin Qingyu was married as part of a Chong Xi into the Nan’an Hou Mansion, becoming the ill Lu Wancheng’s male wife.

On the eve of their wedding, Young Master Hou lay lazily on the bed and said, “Beauty, to be honest, I really don’t want to engage in domestic struggles. I just want to drift along, eat and wait to die. I want to be a Salted Fish.”

A year later, Young Master Hou became gravely ill. He took Lin Qingyu’s hand and sighed, “Wife, I’m going to die, but I think I can continue to transmigrate. In order for you to properly recognize me in the future, let us set a secret code.”

After the death of Young Master Hou, Lin Qingyu was prepared to stay a widow all his life.
Lin Qingyu would rather die than remarry.

Unexpectedly, after only 1/2 a year, …xoxo… actually came to propose marriage & said “If odd, change; if even, remain the same?”
LQ: “…I will marry you.”

After two years …

Lin Qingyu knew that although his husband was a bag of lazybones, no one was his equal

This novel definitely took me by surprise with how much I ended up enjoying it! For sure a favorite. I honestly wish there was more, I just loved the main couple so much.

Took me a while to get invested in this story, maybe about 20 chapters, but once I was in, I just could not put this story down! The plot really starts picking up once more mysteries are unveiled, and the characters feel a bit more fleshed out. I really enjoyed how everything built up so naturally and the... more>> characters had the time to slowly get to know one another. Despite the title giving away the main premise of the novel, the plot was still quite interesting and held a few surprises. I was definitely surprised when ML was revealed to be

Spoiler

just a high schooler, not even 18 yet, when he transmigrated. The way he was so calm about his oncoming death and so upbeat really made me think he was going to be much older, or that this was just one transmigration out of many for him, rather than being his first.

[collapse]

MC is scheming and ML is happy to just watch his brilliant husband in action (and also scheme right alongside him). The relationship dynamic is very fresh and the two of them made me really just so invested in their love story. The title basically lays out the plot that ML is going to be dying a few times in order for MC to marry him three times, but I still found myself crying the first time he died. The second time I was a bit hardened and just waiting for the third body since it was clear who he was going to be reincarnated into though.

Would recommend reading at least the first 20 or so chapters before giving up on this novel if you're not too invested at the start like I was! The storyline really does pick up the pace and the court politics were very fun to read. Both MC and ML are very interesting characters and I did enjoy their interactions with the side characters as well. The plot is very engaging what with the three different marriages as well, and I only really felt ready for the second arc to end when it started becoming clear that it was time for ML to die soon haha

Can I also say that MC after he falls in love is absolutely the cutest lover?? Like this boy had such a transformation once he realized his feelings. Literally brings me so much joy when a tsundere opens up and can sweet talk back to their lover.

The extras are also comedic gold. I really love the original MC character lol. Wish he got his own happy ending too, but honestly his happy ending is being the third wheel let's be real haha <<less

Damn good.

The two of them are so sweet together and I love it when they do ‘bad things’ together.

It’s so funny, I laughed out loud many times from their antics and smiled like a crazy person in public for many chapters (especially the extras).

... more>> Despite the funny bits, there’s lots of fluff and dog food. And some great plot and tension/drama woven in too. You kind of know what’s gonna happen (married thrice> it’s in the title) but it didn’t make it any less enjoyable. Actually teared at some parts.

Very well-written, super enjoyable. Can’t wait to read it again. Love these two together so much. <<less

This deserved all the 5 stars rating; My rating 4.8/5 ⭐️

I LOVE ML SO MUCHHH!! Omggg someone said he is the mixed of Hua Cheng (TGCF) and Yan Xiaohan (Golden stage), I think so, but not really. He lived, loved and chilled his life away. He doted on MC so much. Though I think the plot has some holes, it’s find. Just MC and ML characteristics are enough to carry the whole novel. Though, at first I think MC is a little ruthless, but later I can his kindness and... more>> thought processes. I cried a few times hahahaa but overall, this climbed into my top10 Danmei. <<less

this was... fantastic, and usually I don't read through extras of novels (even those I really liked) but I just had to read all available chapters this novel had to offer because the characters were irresistible.

i cried during both deaths, I really did, because man the author just has a way of portraying the grief and loss of those left behind that it gave me flashbacks lol

this is NOT a story about a helpless, hapless, forced-into-marriage-and-then-fell-in-love doctor, this is a story about how the foundation of trust is the mortifying... more>> ordeal of being known.

Spoiler

in that regard, the mc/gong has the upper hand — he transmigrated into the novel and knew not only its ending, but the ending of his favorite character as well, the ml/shou. but that advantage lasts as long only as his first life, which isn't at all; he wants nothing but the best for this favorite of his, and so he tells him all about their world.

[collapse]

i love how this novel does not disregard the "original" protagonist/s of the world.

shen huaishi, just as he became the empire's son, my baby, my little meowmeow. I will love that boy to the end.

10/10 recommended, 10/10 will read again. <<less

I love Lin Qingyu. How he is true to himself, how he is mean, how he us a beauty that needs to be coaxed (and is always successfully coaxed by ML).

I love how ML is very capable even though he would rather laze around. He is very respectful of Lin Qingyu's boundaries, and he isnt a creep. He loves Lin Qingyu for who LQY is, bad things and all.

This is, overall, a very peaceful and sweet story with no annoying third party. The romance is slow and mutual. Both arent... more>> ashamed of their love for each other. I like everything about this. <<less

First time I read a novel where the narrator is not the transmigrator, refreshing and novel.

Apart from this I also liked the delicious angst (close to whump sometimes), the banter, the way the historical setting is portrayed, and the multiple transmigration cycle gimmick.

What I liked the most is that the novel reads like a HanniGram fanfiction, it should have a "mu*der husbands" tag lmao.

What I liked the least is the romance and murd- ahem, mystery plot languishing in the 3rd life.

I've created this account solely to rate this wonderful and lovely piece of gem.

It's been awhile since I've last finished a novel due to absurd amount of recycled tropes.

BUT then I discovered this gem, putting on a cliche plot and making it unique, before I knew it I was reading the last chapter. It has wonderful characters they are all simply likeable and have their own personalities.

Throughout the journey of reading bl novels I've been on a quest to find semes/ML with unique personalities and not just another 'cool, edgy... more>> dreamboat with a personality of a cardboard box'. This story has an ML who actually has a personality? Has weaknesses? Isn't perfect but is loveable?? A jokester?? SIMPLY NO WAY!? But here it is and I love him to death.

The MC is very vengeful and a beauty, every chapter there's always a mention on how beautiful and otherworldly he is and I APPRECIATE IT, I'm a sucker for flowery words to describe appearances. Qingyu is a lofty and cool beauty who has a black heart and wouldn't hesitate to poison anyone who dares block his way and the ML simply loves him the way he is.

Their relationship could be described as:

"Couples who plots mu*der stays together"

Have fun and enjoy this ride of a novel. You'll experience crying in joy, anger, and sadness. I've never enjoyed a novel this much before. (Recommend peerless, dinghai fusheng records and Thousand Autumns) <<less

Author: Lu Wancheng will die.

Me: Sure, it says on the synopsis anyway.

... more>> *Le Wencahng dies*

Me: Wuwuwuwuw 。:゚ (;´∩`;) ゚:。! How dare you author?!!?!?!

Author: General Gu will die too.

Me: Pfffft! Bring it on!

*General Gu dies*

Me: ‧º· (˚ ˃̣̣̥⌓˂̣̣̥) ‧º·˚‧º· (˚ ˃̣̣̥⌓˂̣̣̥) ‧º·˚‧º· (˚ ˃̣̣̥⌓˂̣̣̥) ‧º·˚!! Nooooo!

That said, prepare your tissues!

Also, I feel bad for Xiao Jie, I don't think that he deserve all the pain, he's so innocent, he's not an idiot as what the MC thinks, IMHO. Unpopular opinon, but I kinda like Xi Rong, I just don't like that he caused General Gu's death because of his betrayal. But his dream for Xiao Jie and for his own is understandable, he wants what's best for the both of them. Both him and Xiao Jie was living peacefully when they were pushed as a pawn to replace the existing crown prince. I don't know man, but my heart hurts for this siblings.

Anyway, as for the MC and ML, they are both smart and not your usual goody goody protagonists. If you get in their way, be ready for your fall or demise. I like how they transition from friends to lovers, it's a slow burn type but it's worth it.

I love the extra chapters too, it's full of fluff! <<less

Don't fear the Power Struggle tag. The story wasn't Dog Blood nor too intense. But it was So Much Fantastic and Wonderful than you can imagine!!!

Our Villainous MC with our Lazy ML definitely stole our Heart! The Unconditional Love ML has toward MC. Support his Villain thought and actions, and won't let him suffer when he's away. Even on his dying breath... ಥ‿ಥ

Our ML is Lazy, Funny, but Powerful Badass !!! He adapt easily to his new situations and definitely badass enough to adapt and striving!

The Love both MC and... more>> ML feel toward each other grow naturally and I LOVE IT!

How they face all new situations and how they plan and manipulate things to suit their needs. I LOVE IT!

Anyway the main story was ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!!

But don't forget the Extras... It was ENTERTAINING FUN AF!!! Don't Miss it!!!

I'm ABSOLUTELY FALLING IN LOVE WITH THIS NOVEL AND KEEP FALLING AND LOVING IT FOREVER ETERNALLY IN ANY UNIVERSE AND BEYOND!! <<less

now that was romance.

this novel was a genuinely excellent read from start to finish. sure, I wanted the villains to have died worse and more torturous deaths but the sugar in each chapter were enough to make up for practically everything.

characters

Spoiler
  • mc: ruthless and capable of some kindness to an extent but fundamentally not a good person. and like the ml, I like him this way. alas, I was just a bit dismayed in the extras when he would go off to places with another man and even make more plans without even including the ml... I know that’s just how he is because of the era he’s from and his standing but I wished he were a bit more sensitive to his husband of years. but besides that, his characterization was excellent. he was mature and the changes in him, the way he opened up was so natural and so well done. he’s a bit of a tsundere but he’s not actually unwilling to change and he doesn’t remain s*upidly ridiculous like that. tsunderes are an intolerable trope to me because they always make characters childish but in mc’s case, it was more of just his natural character as someone who wasn’t interested in anyone before and the man he got stuck with claiming to be straight while he also thought of himself straight. but he didn’t shy away from his developing feelings and he didn’t unnecessarily push away our ML at any point. he wasn’t some blushing teen being like “B-BAKA!” basically so be wasn’t frustrating to keep up with and I love that. I feel like character tropes only work if some sort of development takes place beyond it and it was done incredibly here.
  • ML is a very kind and free spirited soul. I seriously respect him for not being a vinegar jar. tbf, I like my vinegar jar characters but it’s also refreshing to see a good example of a partner every once in a while haha especially one with an outstanding partner who can catch everyone’s eye no matter where he goes. I only wish he went a little hard on those who would objectify the mc! there’s a difference between admiring good looks and disrespecting someone with their gaze and thoughts, after all. MC seemed to constantly get the latter so he was offended by those too. otherwise he is an excellent partner and very likable as a person. I love his personality as a salted fish who would still do what he has to do and do it well even if it costed his life. excellent moral upstanding and character.

plot

Spoiler

basically political intrigue and imperial drama. it was refreshing to have different villains per arc despite the MC and ML being in the same world, it meshed well with the development of their characters, their relationship, and the story. the author did such a good job with balancing everything. there’s truly nothing bad I can say about the writing. no plotholes, we’ve even been given more than enough extras. the main text ended at a good time too. just very good writing.

they all get retribution. do they die as bad as they deserve? i’d say no, honestly but with how long they have been alive, it’s better they’re dead than not. props to the author for not being afraid to kill off one villain after another, save for the ones in the first arc which is understandable as those ones are just petty family politics.

romance

Spoiler

these two are the silliest and warmest pair I've ever read about. they’re in such a mature and healthy relationship. oh, I can tell how they’ve stayed long together. I know i’m incapable of that at the moment so I find it really noble and admirable of them. they respect each other so much and never fail to express their feelings for each other no matter what stage they’re relationship is in.

ahh, I was devastated every time our ML would die. we all know as readers that our ML would find his way back but our MC would be left behind waiting, uncertain if he’d even come back. I truly love how the author wrote their developing feelings for each other. each arc/transmigration marks a point in the development of their relationship yet our MC and ML hold onto each other from the very beginning, unwilling to part. they have a tacit understanding. my thoughts are so disorganized. I can only describe what they’re like together. if I had to recount the actual romance part of this novel, I would have to write about the entire novel because that’s practically what this is all about besides the overarching plot lol! you’ll have to see for yourself and trust me on this, you won’t be disappointed.

Wow! Loved the story and the translation. Nothing is perfect, yet I loved this story to death because it ticked all the right boxes for me. If you like historical politics and slow yet intensely deep romance, then stop right here and just start reading!

It's rare for me to love both the MC and ML as much as I do here. They are both gems (though different kinds of gems). The MC is ruthless and insidious, but he will do anything for the people he cares about. He doesn't put... more>> airs with the ml, he doesn't reject him unreasonably. When he falls, he falls hard. He knows what the ML means to him and my heart broke everytime he was left behind. The ML - a perfect match for our MC - is so precious. He is a modern era high school student transmigrated to the past. To be honest, I love the author's depiction of an asian teenager lmao. He's always tired, always lacking sleep and wants nothing more than to be a salted fish 🤣🤣🤣. Despite that, he does what he needs to do and does it best. He suffers to keep the MC safe, he stays strong for the MC when the MC is breaking down, he accepts the MC's dark side without batting an eye and he is so amazingly cool despite his goofy personality.

I love their relationship. It's not a stretch to call it one of the best I've ever read. They respect each other and love each other more than one can imagine. Neither of them are unreasonably jealous. I love the confidence they have in their feelings for one another. Both of them think something along the lines of "You are so amazing, of course others will like you. But it's a pity that as long as I am here, you will never look at them." I swoon everytime I read their interactions.

All in all, this story is a gem to me. I also like how the author didn't disappoint with the ending and even added several cherries on top with a bountiful of extras. To anyone looking for historical stories, do give it a try. <<less

Perspective is mostly third person POV between the leads but for the sake of confusion I’ll consider Doctor Lin the primary POV/MC.

... more>> Pairing Type: beautiful, doctor MC X Transmigrator ML; slightly tsundere MC; shou MC; genius MC; himbo/jokester ML; salted fish ML

Tropes: transmigrated into a book; ancient court politics; emperor; gay marriage

Triggers: death; terminal illness; torture (not of the leads) ; attempted r*pe (brief and unsuccessful on MC) ; su*cide

Heat level: 2/5 (behind closed doors) ; leads are fans of making out and they are both enthusiastic lovers. However, all love scenes are fade to black

Re-watch: 3/5 - might reread one day

The tears I shed for this novel? My god. It just has everything you could possibly want and I experienced the full suite of emotions.

The plot is intricate and well done. The main source of drama is court politics, the leads playing 5-D chess with the antagonists. For the most part, antagonists are well-rounded and complicated. No one is truly good or bad, only shades of gray.

For me it’s the leads relationship that settles this as a phenomenal read. They are the very definition of DEVOTED. The relationship is also quite organic, you can seen MC slowly grow to care for ML and eventually they become inseparable.

Super rare, but I love the ML. He’s actually got a personality and has hobbies. He’s fun-loving and lazy. He doesn’t take himself too seriously and is a perfect balance to MCs more cold but cute persona.

Also, this is the first time of read a novel where the MC is the book character and the ML transmigrates into his story. It becomes pretty apparent pretty early on but all of his early interactions suddenly make sense when you put it together.

MC leans a little tsundere, but once he and ML get together, he is quite honest and cute with him. He’s the type that doesn’t open up to anyone but the ML, which makes their interactions feel more special.

Their love for each other is so apparent. They are so respectful of one another and truly know each other better than anyone else. The emotions feel so real and so authentic.

Just wow, do yourself a favor and read this immediately. <<less

I was skeptical at first. It took me getting to nearly chapter 15-20 before I could finally really get into this. I too was not too happy with how much the MC hated the ML because ultimately it wasn’t his decision to force the marriage, however at the same time I do understand why the MC would still hate him.

It wasn’t until he slowly began to thaw towards the ML and I could see the little hints of budding emotions that I finally was able to sink into this novel.

It... more>> was truly a wonderful decision not to drop this. It was so touching and there were times I cried my eyes out over the relationship between the MC and ml. There was also times where I did think the MC was a little too ruthless, but I do love MCs that have flawed thinking and are far from the innocent little white lotus’ most novels try to portray.

And to be fair, I only thought him ruthless when it came to the distance queen of the northern king, and how he was willing to pull them down to further push his plan, but since the character didn’t end up in a situation because of him I shrugged it off.

The extras are also feeding my need for modern LQ and it’s so cute seeing how interested he is in modern society.

I really loved this novel more than I expected to. 4.5/5 high end. <<less

ML is just an ordinary student not even 18 when he first transmigrated. Yet he is proficient in conspiring scheming managing and manipulating people when he wants to. And even when he became the general he performed so well.

At first I even thought that this was some big shot somewhere that transmigrated in to the sickly young master, but nope just a wee baby. It confuses me.

How can someone living in modern day comfort sit well with being suddenly thrown into a bloody battle field? How can someone who is just an ordinary student who knew nothing but studying and fooling aroud be fine with wretched family politics and even witness people killing and being killed yet act so familiar with such tragedy?

The summary is accurate, although it is much more impactful in the story itself. The author carries through on the premise really well. The tension of the plot comes across just as much whether you know the ML will die soon or not. The climax for third death was unexpectedly done the best (imo) despite me expecting the dead ML to no longer hold any shock value. I WOULD have liked to see more development for the side characters and the world of Dayu overall after the main plotline was... more>> over. The ending was very open and gave the plot a slice of life feel, for better or for worse.

The story does have modern extras and there was an interesting aspect I noticed. It becomes particularly obvious that Dayu is the real world for the main characters. They all have no connection to modern times, not even the ML who was raised there. None of them consider sharing any of their knowledge with the modern world outside the book. Their concerns are all about what they can bring back for Dayu. ML barely wants to deal with even his closest family and even the modern conveniences of daily life cannot seduce the salted fish into nostalgia. It is the first time I have felt that the modern setting felt more unreal to the characters than the ancient setting, and I have to commend the author for that. <<less

Ah, I am too lazy to write a review for this haha.

Anyway. Let me just ramble a bit.

1. The romance is slow. Well, not really. They have too many sweets banters to call it slow. Even though they do not fall quickly, they fall hard. It's beautiful, sweet, and occasionally tragic (ML dies twice duh).

... more>> 2. They scheme, flirt, scheme and flirt. It's quite fun. They do bad things together (um... who cares, self-preservation is always on my top list anyways).

3. MC's character is unique. He seems humane to me... um, maybe not. He is petty, stubborn, and smart. He holds grudges. Damn, one of my favourite characteristics.

(You see, I don’t like forgiving people... tsk, but I'm too lazy to hold grudges.)

4. ML... finds MC's prettiness to be attractive. How... just too sweet. MC is too lucky without a doubt.

5. Side characters... there are many. But, this novel doesn't give any side character to appear often. It feels... a little blurry? How do I put it... ah, no one makes any mark on MC. MC isn't an emotional person so...

6. Even the villains aren't that dedicated. Isn't it normal though? Who has the time for that? Villains have their own life. <<less
