Monsters suddenly appeared in this world. Those monster is called “Wanderer”. Just when it seems humanity is in danger of destruction, a mysterious entity called magical girls appears.

On the other hand, a man who has longed to be a hero since childhood still cannot give up on his dream even after becoming an adult. Even if the reason for that is not because he wants to save or help someone, but just because he wants to be a hero.

One day, he receives an invitation from a mysterious creature to become a hero. It’s clearly an abrupt and suspicious invitation. But to that suspicious invitation that might never come once more, the boy decides to accept it.

This web novel is a spin on Magical Girls and the darkness that occurs in their industry. This isn't Madoka Magica type of gore, but a more uncomplicated dark twist on the plot. The MC is an adult who wishes to become a hero, however, he is self-aware that his desire to be a hero is not solely on helping others but on him becoming something cool and admired. MC is selfish, self-centered, and kind in his own way. He has realistic views on heroes.

The MC then goes on to... more>> become a hero and meets the innocent children who are unfortunately not as aware as him. The plot doesn't seem to go deep but keeps a subtle hint of dark elements. A must-read if you are bored and like "underground" heroes. Also, the Yuri and Gender Bender elements that I was here for. It's not bad, but there are no explicit details of girls going out with girls, but girls caring for other girls. Don't expect much, just look at the MC like an adult in a female child's body. He doesn't really pay attention to the biological changes other than minor inconveniences. <<less

Just a heads up, this novel isn't your typical Madoka-type gory magical girl stuff.

Now, let's dive into the story. So, it's got the gender bender thing going on, and yeah, there's some yuri action. But no worries, the MC isn't a perv. She actually embraces her girly side pretty fast and rocks the whole girl life vibe.

Meet Roze, our main gal. She's a realistic and selfish hero. Total self-centered – she'll put herself first, even if the world's falling apart. But, she's got morals and is crazy overpowered. She's not... more>> your run-of-the-mill magical girl either – she's the only adult in the game. Because she's a dude turned magical girl with a long life's worth of experience, she's all mature and protective, especially when the younger magical girls face trouble from "Bad Adults."

Now, the plot unfolds with these nasty monsters called "Wanderers, " born out of human malice. Enter the "Magical Girl" and the not-so-responsible "fairies." It's not just about battling monsters, though. It delves into how society copes, the struggles of these innocent magical girls, and the harsh criticism they face. Humans turn out to be the real threat, pulling some seriously messed-up stuff.

Roze's gig in this mess is being a stray magical girl – stopping rampages from other stray magical girls, taking down tough Wanderers. Along the way, she faces society's backlash, power-hungry governments, and a bunch of conspiracies. Good thing her magic is almost god-tier – magic technique creation, past alteration, memory erasure, perception tweaking. But, she's no superhero for everyone. She's self-centered and carefree, helping only those she knows.

It's a breezy read, not drowning in drama. Kinda slice-of-life with a cute storyline once you strip away the chaos. Refreshing to see how Roze navigates through it all. Highly recommend giving this novel a go. <<less

... more>> I like the self-sacrificing ally of justice, but I like the self-centered dark hero (?) even more! Although I feel frustrated that MC can't use MC's full power because MC have power, I feel that she (he) is a strong character that compensates for that, and that she (he) is a well-balanced character that makes you feel close to she (him) because of her (his) strong character. Think! Magical girl stuff is top class fun!

What can I say, I think it's nice that the beginning of the story is easy to read because the conflict of changing gender is simple.

After all, a dark hero who acts for her (his) own justice is great! ! That's what I'm talking about.

It seems like something has stopped updating, but it's interesting, so I'm looking forward to it being updated again. <<less

A really nice magical girl story the characthers are nice mokyu is a suprisingly good characther a mascot characther that is a bit mature that has a good dynamic and balances the mc's characther, the world has that 'realistic fantasy' feel to it.

Very good. Not your usual magical girl story, nor your usual genderbender story, nor even your usual action hero story - not even a mix of all those (though there are definitely elements of all those genres in it). Instead it's what you might call a genre savvy genderbent magical girl story - not literally genre savvy, there's no fourth wall breaking or anything like that, but this story is definitely aware of the rules and is taking care to ignore them and do it's own thing.

The main character is... more>> realistic and believable as a fairly sane and reasonably mature person with a reasonable sense of perspective about themselves and their own flaws. Not perfect - nothing makes for a boring story more than a main character that knows themselves too well, and in this case there's definitely lots of elements of their character that make me feel like facepalming. Not because it's s*upid, rather because it's the funny kind of dumb but believable, which is one of the things I'm finding consistently enjoyable about reading this.

On technical matters, the translation is MTL based, and the early chapters are pretty ropey, but it improves reasonably quickly. In general it's decent and doesn't get in the way of the story, though as with anything MTL your mileage may vary.

The most frustrating thing for me is knowing that it's appears to be on hiatus after 98 chapters - it's worth reading even with that, but it'd be nice if it was finished at some point.

Ironically, that's basically the same state as Hagakure Sakura Does Not Lament, which is the story that got me interested in the magical girl genre. Hopefully they can both be continued to a proper conclusion some time. <<less
