Mizukami Ryōichi, a stressed out working adult, witnessed a magical girl fighting a deformed monster on his 30th birthday.

He was then possessed by a pumpkin ghost who claimed to be a scout, and after being forced to undergo a s*x change, his age was lowered and he became an innocent little girl.

Ryōichi, who had agreed to become a magical girl in tears for the sake of his livelihood, actually had an extraordinary talent that led to his awakening to his enhanced form in his first transformation.

I wanted to give it a fair shake, so I read up to chapter 39, but didn't bother to go find raws. I won't be continuing to read this, as it had an uncanny ability to make me feel uncomfortable. Some of this will have spoilers, but I think it's necessary to understand the basics of what the problems are.

Fairy shows up to recruit a 30 yr old man whose just kind of milling through life, cog in the wheel kind of guy. He ain't interested. In fact, he flat... more>> out denies the invitation with gusto. Fairy, doesn't take no for an answer and uses drugs on him to regress him and change him into a girl. Then basically blackmails him because, "no ones going to believe your him when you look like that". Then talks about the only way she'd be able to make a living is by selling herself if she didn't become a magical girl.

We then find out shortly there afterwards, after a pretty significant mcguffin fight. That the transformation/fairy suppresses her fear, anxiety, among other things. Which brings up all sorts of issues, since, well. Let's flip this on the head real fast. This is being done to ACTUAL 10 - 14 yr old children. Then there is the strange budding love story between her and another magical girl. Mind you, this is a 30 yr old. This isn't some isekai rebirth novel, starting over from scratch or anything of the sort. This is a legit child, courting a 30 yr old who looks like a child and the MC is being all blushy and swooning about it. I also don't enjoy how the relationship started in the first place.

She's incredibly pushy and tricks the MC multiple times in spending time with her. Then after he finally resolves to tell her the big secret. It doesn't seem to bother her. I know this is a bit of a cliche, but come on. If you weren't weirded out by the MC, you'd be questioning the fairy. All of this has been done against the MC's will. Ultimately, the story is incredibly sub part. The plot doesn't make a lick of logical sense and the MC is ever more of a strange case. <<less

The story has had a good balance between realism and magical girl so far. The MC is a hard working adult who gets thrown headfirst into a traditional magical girl story. Little girls with magic powers who are fighting against monsters in separate spaces, with fairy helpers performing "plot armor" like making no one question the oddities.

Except he wasn't a willing participant. His fairy changed his body without his consent and made it so he had no option other than to become a magical girl to get his life back.... more>> Later he uncovers other changes that have been forced onto him showing him even more that the system isn't his friend or on his side. But even so, the magical girl system is helping people and many of the magical girls themselves are sincerely trying to befriend him. Things aren't black or white and the realism of points/money/fame can't be separated from the innocent people working to help others.

I'm looking forward to seeing where the plot goes. <<less

It had a great start.

But it all just went downhill after his
Spoiler

defeat

[collapse]

His 30 year previous life seems like a joke. He's so pathetic.

It was much much better when he operates with just himself.

It was so wasted potential.

Sorry. But still 3* for that wonderful start. I liked thinking of ways how to get out of that situation as well the anguish.

Forewarning, because of the topic, it may make the reader uncomfortable.

Magical Tyrant Sylph is the typical dark magical girl story with the gender bend and age regression tags. In general, you will expect a similar setting as Madoka Magica though slightly tuned down. The story goes with MC being forced into becoming a magical girl because of their strength, wanting to return to her previous form by working as one but because they're anti-social MC will meet certain troubling Diest which hints at other main characters as MC support. From... more>> there it may really get psychological. Some chapters have questionable readability which makes it hard to take in. And The problem with the story is that most of the chapter is seemingly an exposition dump.

There are many supporting characters and most of them as usual are all magical girls. That being said it is also fall into the GL category because of that reason.

Also, be wary that it is MTL-ed. So there will be some wrong pronouns (not talking about the MC btw) and convoluted translations.

I think it's a worthwhile read but if you're asking for my rating I'll give it 3.5 because of the ridiculous exposition dump. <<less
