I was simply living life as a C-class Hunter, when I suddenly acquired the world’s only S-rank crafting skill.

[You’ve encountered an opportunity to evolve your skills.

[A Blessing For You (C) –> Everlasting, Immortal Blessing (S)] [Grant Attribute (C) –> Enchant (S)] – Your items will be imbibed with a special power.
– A crafting master’s instruction can reinforce the power of your blessings. Your item will be imbibed with a permanent special power.]

For a while, I dreamt of traveling down a golden, royal road.

However, this class transfer… Something about it was strange.

[Enchant ‘Radiant (A)’ failed.] [Failure Penalty Activated! ‘Shadow Dagger (C)’ has been destroyed.]

Why was it so hard to show off this hard-earned skill?

— “Yoon Gaho Hunter never acts as I expect her to.”
— “Yoon Gaho, why did you leave me behind?”
— “That’s right. It’s as you’ve suspected–I’m interested in you.”

Why are these guys starting to obsess over me?

And, furthermore…what? I’m the only key to some hitherto unseen class? There must be a mistake!

Yoon Gaho: an irreplaceable S-class crafting skill User.

The Hunters’ war of nerves over her.

And the revelation–the truth–behind this world’s tower.

Will Yoon Gaho be able to achieve the golden future she hoped for?

I don't really like the protagonist. Just, the way she proceeds with her new skills, as well as her naivete with the system is more akin to a new rookie than a seasoned hunter. Not only that but the author doesn't spend time, if any, on exposition. Even with genre experience, there is little understanding with our protagonists abilities. It gives the impression that the protagonist will just pull up a skill that her class has with no explanation where its from and its purpose. Additionally, the personal status screen... more>> she uses might as well not have anything. It gives barely any information or lore. Finally, her characterisation for the main lead is inconsistent and shaky. Everything else is good and with proper translation I could read through, but I really don't vibe with the protag. I just can't root for her. <<less

Actual rating would be 4.5 stars but this novel is underrated 😔. It's wayy more better than what I was expecting.

Okay, first off, contrary to the novels title, this novel isn't really your clichéd mukbang equivalent of blacksmithing galore, if I can compare my expectations vs reality, I'd say it's similar to SSS Class Revival Hunter.

The plot is still centered on our dear MC- but I like how the side characters all get their moment to shine, and they have backstories that don't make them feel one dimensional. You slowly... more>> get to learn more about their histories and personalities, even the MC (since the novel starts off when the MC has already experienced many things as a hunter), and I like that type of introduction rather than the typical info dumping from POV changes. My favorite is definetly Yoo Suho though, he's such a sad baby who can't communicate for the life of him.

Moving on, our MC is Yoon Gaho. My first impression of her is someone insecure about her C class hunter status, which is a result of her getting exploited when she was a beginner and being undermined by higher ranked hunters. But her character development is so good?? I liked how her "worth" isn't just from her S ranked production skills, but rather her reliability and good nature. She already had pretty good skills before that, and instead of abandoning it all, she incoprates it into her fighting style so she's a very specialized type of ranger. It doesn't mean she doesn't have flaws though- she's used to doing things alone and is very independent which you can see in the beginning. And she's very sensitive to others underestimating her.

Spoiler

But then in the end, she slowly stops caring so much about ranking and finally feels less lonely as she acknowledges her dear friends and mentors. When she always used to feel so alone, and I theorized it's because of her deepest trauma- when she was abandoned to fight alone inside of a gate by those despicable former party members of her.

[collapse]

And her growth- Another thing I adore about this novel is that she doesn't immediately become powerful, but rather slowly develops her abilities.

For the romance- wow it's the slowest burn in existence. It's the most subplot of subplots. The feels are mostly from the worlds- man, there's a lot of world building and character writing with the NPCs. The plot revolves around the MC and her party collecting materials from hidden quests in order to create a key to access the next tower floor.

Spoiler

But the hidden quests were in actuality, just the hidden sides of the world that the hunters, in their rush to complete the floors never helped fix. Their stories are so sad- I especially got pissed at the kings of both the Joseon era floor and the post war 3rd floor.

[collapse]

I'd say another theme of this novel, is what it means to be human. If the NPCs breathe and lives and feels real, our MC can't convince herself it's just "a game" (which is what all the hunters use as a defensive mechanism as they climb the tower) but stills acts on her empathy for them anyway.

Spoiler

Additionally, OH man, I'm pretty sure there was some romantic tension between her and her guild leader, but our MC never realized 😭. Man, I was rooting for him but the MC never got the hint because of how she views him as the epitome of eccentrics. In the end, the ML was someone else. I like the current ML too though, because he's such a green flag with how he trusts and doesn't pressure her into accepting him? Haha, in the end it WAS an open ending where the MC haven't gotten together with anyone yet although it's very possible in the unknown epilogue. I wish the author gave us side stories 😭. I'm still hoping Choi Kwon Yong steps up and confess his feelings though.

[collapse]

A nice novel for you to read if you want the feels with little romance in this genre with a FMC. <<less

I wish someone would get on this and translate or they release a book via j-novel. It's one of my favorite kinds of novels. American or international, non s*upid female lead. Who respects steps and crafts and wants to learn and be better. I know this reads as low bar but many of the books are either shojou for women that are focus on male leads even though it's a female lead or josei style which is such a mix bag. (Deeper I get in the more slight harem... more>> vibes I'm getting and im worried) But not unhappy with it.

Super enjoyable 4 stars for sure. But reminds me of that book with the guy who can level mounts. Forget the name I raised S class or something. This doesn't have the brain washing though. <<less
