This is the tale of an earthling, who transmigrated as a dying third-rate god but somehow rose through the ranks, gaining followers and eventually causing the Fourth Great Apocalypse.

“Have you ever heard of the God of Games?”

“The God of Games..?” Eleena shook her head in puzzlement. “I have never heard of Him…”

“What if the God of Games could give you the power to defeat your enemies?” Xi Wei coaxed patiently.

Eleena remained silent for a while, before resolutely lifting her head and fixing her gaze on Xi Wei. “Then I am willing to become a believer of the God of Games!”

“Belief isn’t something to only be spoken by mouth. Close your eyes and envision His name in your mind, and feel His power with your heart,” he said solemnly.

“O Master of Games, grant us new life!”

An interesting take on a fantasy world filled with unique elements. A mix and parody of various systems at that. Who cares about some novel called Sword of Dawnbreaker whose MC and his system are not any better than a side character's in I Am The God Of Games?

The MC is a god, who acts like an old good friend to his believers. Normal folk's vision of the world is shattered as they become gamers and get addicted to playing their new VR lives. From another perspective, you can consider... more>> them as NPCs who become players and their world becomes a playground for them.

The only thing that I don't like is that they become immortal after turning into gamers (so they don't cherish their lives anymore). They cannot die permamently, so any suspense is lost as nothing bad can happen to them. <<less

Well first of all its not similar to the legendary mechanic. Other reviews are bullshit. The MC is literally the god and no mortal can defeat him. This is a novel which is more about side characters then the MC himself. It is very fun to read with op MC and his flourishing religion. If you like op comedy and kingdom building you will definitely enjoy this.

this is pretty good.

the focus is on MC who is a god. he works hard to make his believers stronger by making them into players.

as usual, they can't die. so far none of the players has ever died, even the player who dies every chapter or so and probably there never will be a player that dies.

the human wave tactic that is boring and makes novels of this genre is present but it is not focused upon. while the players fearlessly jump into death, it isn't as extreme as the... more>> other novels and there are players who still feel emotions like fear when fighting against a "boss" that is much stronger.

the MC constantly being reminded that he is weak and the focus of the novel being on him, not on the players make this a better read because you know that the events in the world, while important, are not the "goal".

unfortunately, I don't see the stuff in the god's plane to be written much sadly...

there is no, and will probably never be any romance sadly as the MC doesn't seem to escape the fate of being a ball of light and it seems like the MC is "fine" with being a ball.

several characters also have a "different system". there is one lord who is tasked with creating the newbie village so he has a lord system, while another has the "goddess of war" system.

this is a nice book if you are into the "dungeon gamers" kind of novels but know what won't be in the novel before you read so you don't get disappointed. <<less

The concept is good and the idea is fresh. However I dislike the constant 4th wall breaking, comedy and real world references, it ruins the immersion of the story. There are a lot of pov changes between the players. But the problem is that aside from one or two of them they are mostly uninteresting and do not have a well built up background. Another problem is that they become "gamers" way too fast. They are supposed to be indigenous people of the world, how come they become MMORPG... more>> veterans coming up with these weird thought processes in a short time? I don't feel drawn into the story either. And it doesn't help that the main character doesn't really have an interesting personality. I think overall this novel is more similar to Transcendental Mechanic. However that novel is more coherent, has a much better plot, and is written much better compared to this one.

If you want to read another novel that has the "god in foreign world creates a game for his believers" trope then I recommend "Game of the World Tree" which is also on Webnovel. Although the translation of Webnovel for that novel is rather bad, the writing as well as the overall plot and the characters of that novel are much better in my opinion. And it is also a bit more refreshing to read a novel where the elves are the main protagonists. <<less

The idea is cool, taking the "game system" to a new level, but the execution is lacking. It just feels very childish, without depth. The "protagonists" being kids doesn't help either.

I wish the author would have focused on single-fates (the princess, Marni, the forsaken baron, the saintess-in-training) instead of bunching them all up and turning them into a looting-and-leveling-mob without redeeming features. There is some amazing potential wasted.

I give it a 3 for the idea and the "Marni is dying" meme, but it is not a good read.

I read the first 40 chapters a few months ago, and just today I realized that this novel is highly rated.

I just wanted to say that it feels like a souless and unfunny version of The Experimental Log of the Crazy Lich, a book which I think heavily inspired it

It's a comedy book which simply isn't funny. Maybe if the humor is your style, you might like it.

I felt like I should review this since I kind of came into this novel reading the other reviews, but they didn't really say much about the actual novel. first, this novel is pretty much a kingdom building novel.

It is extremely similar to The Legendary Mechanic where the MC exploits "players" for their XP and resources. And similar to The Legendary Mechanic, the MC is basically (well in this case it is) a god among men. He uses humans (players) as resources and treats them more or less like a... more>> dairy cow (s*ave) that he can just keep milking and milking without much care as to what happens to them since they can't permanently die anyways.

Thus, you may have noticed, but there will literally be almost 0 person-to-person interaction/romance in the novel. Now, you might be thinking, what about the other gods? Well... MC exploits them too. He basically treats them like a business partner until he can grow powerful enough to survive by himself.

I'm not too sure what will happen in the future but I'm about 90% sure that this novel's MC is going to remain similar to a robot without emotions while his kingdom grows more and more powerful. In other words, this novel is going to remain relatively monotone.

I'm not saying that these types of novels are bad (note the 3-star rating), but they just get boring after a few hundred chapters since the author doesn't really input many new things into the novel.

TLDR: Decent plot/translation. The author doesn't add new things into the plot fast enough to keep the novel interesting. Also, MC is an emotionless robot that treats other people like resources and doesn't try to create a deeper relationship (friendship). <<less

Who doesn't love games?

It's a decent read, especially if you can't find a appetizing novel for the time being. It's really good if your the sort who doesn't care if the novel makes sense or not. So take a rest here, on your search for a good novel, you'll for sure enjoy it.

I want to rate it high but other than the idea and somewhat good comedy and the author's dedication, all the others are poor quality. I'm really baffled why this novel have high ratings when the execution is so poor.

Natives becoming players too quickly. Use slangs and language modern people use. Natives are too quick-witted. Natives are so simple minded. Natives become too reliant on not being dead and they are quickly become pissed when conversing with normal peoples. Power goes through their head.

And somehow no one notice this?

Talk about... more>> mediocre or 'normal peoples' who have normal brains and thinking. So s*upid.

I want to rate this 1 to lower the rates so that people won't be fooled with the high rating but I have a mistake and it goes to 2.0, I can't change it. <<less

Like it, just want to give 5 stars but I don't know how to do so. : ( Anyway the novel I'll though this novel will be down fall then later it give me a good slap in the face. The MC give a reason why he's in that situation 'being a shut-in otaku' how do you expect him to be more like other gods to show off? Or something like that. Well you will know later if you read carefully and understand something.

OP MC, fun to watch him build up his religion. His followers are all crazy in an entertaining way. The story is pretty shallow but I don't mind.

Sadly this novels seems to have been dropped by the author.

I've read this novel but dropped it last year because it wasn't updated for a long time.

The plot? I love it.

The characters? To me they are funny.

The MC? Haha. He really came from our generation of otakus and so far he doing a great job at being a God.

The Other Gods? Only a few are introduced so far and some of them are not that nice.... more>>
Spoiler

I was thinking why other powerful Gods can't connect with their followers like how MC does but I am convinced that the perfect reason is that none of them can travel to the mortal plane (like our transmigrated MC does) without shedding some skin and it cost a lot of power to send some blessing to pious belivers because of some laws that govern the world and keep them apart.

[collapse]

Anyway, the world building is not yet organized as a whole at my current chapter
Spoiler

I mean, some laws are bent by MC and I wonder what those other Gods would do once they realize that MC can keep his believers from dying which is under Hades laws

[collapse]

but I am waiting for it to continue
Spoiler

I am actually waiting for the ar of the Gods to happen so that we can have information about how Gods fight and how can it affect everyone's followers

[collapse]

because this is one of the novels that made me curious, laugh and gave my imagination a world to think of. <<less

A novel concept but poor execution. There are times in which the author breaks the fourth wall which is unusual, not to mention all the POV changes. The prose is littered with the narrator's opinion which is quite irritating and breaks the flow. The novel does have some genuine funny moments, but alas that alone can't make up for its shortcomings

Well, I've never quite seen a Chinese novel similar to this, so cheers for the author for not copy and pasting a template plot. It's a pretty good slice of life/action novel. I call it a slice of life because theres virtually zero tension towards the main character, and everything goes right for him. Furthermore, the comedy is pretty good, I laughed quite a bit.

However, the reason I rated it 4 stars is because of the story/plot aspect of this novel. There are more plot holes then there are chapters.... more>> There are also so many things left unexplained.
Spoiler

i.e author said only divine attacks can damage other gods divinity. Right. What it doesn't explain is how the main character managed to beat a god with more followers, and doesn't expend as much divinity towards their followers, and therefor should theoretically be stronger then the main character.

[collapse]
There are so many things similar to that it's insane.

Another problem is the repetitiveness. It's a constant damsel-in-distress plot. It doesn't change either. The times when the main characters aren't fighting seem very hollow at times and nearly making the story a constant fight with a little bit of nothing between each fight.

Overall, the novel is fairly decent. A standard turn your brain off to enjoy it-type of novel. Aside from the immense about of loose ends and plot holes, its a okay read. <<less

This was really enjoyable at the start, but after C60 (which is after trial reads on WebNovel if the novel gets picked to be translated), translation quality became worse. Eventually story quality also became worse due to the repetiveness of certain phrases, events, and actions of characters. I really loved the premise of this story but it gets pretty dull to read later due to the amount of reusing for filler trying to be funny that it got annoying.

Very good, I really liked the overall story pace, and I loved the MC issuing tasks and quests and stuff to his 'followers'. The MC's personality wasn't overly serious, but wasn't too loose either. Makes for a suprisingly light, dungeon/kingdom building kind of story. Awesome worldbuilding, the story isn't cliche, the author tells you information only when it is relevant, which means no info piles that make you want to skip the whole chapter, nice plot. Drawbacks:

1. No comedy, some scenes fall flat. There isn't a whole lot of action, and the fighting scenes aren't written in detail.

2.
Spoiler

Most importantly, since the MC's power insures that none of his believers die in battle, all of the tension is gone. There are no obvious enemies either, no opposing gods, no problems the MC cannot solve, so no emotions are evoked while reading.

[collapse]

3.
Spoiler

A lot of the 'players', the MC's believers, show worrying behavior now they learn they are now immortal in battle, and they treat life as a 'game' and do not take it seriously. This is wrong and can sends mixed messages to me, it is a natural reaction to have after obtaining immortality, the changes just happens way too quickly for me. The characters just become pyscho monster killers suddenly. I hope the problems of this behavior will also be adressed. I also hope this part of the MC's power will be limited in the future.

[collapse]

4.
Spoiler

I cannot understand why Hades would allow the MC to raise his dead believers since it was previously stated that he forbids revival of even HIS believers because it will cause people to not be scared of death, and his power will shrink. He is obviously a stronger god than the MC, since it was said that the MC is "a being that is weaker than a lesser god".

Will Hades and the MC fight in the future? I cannot understand how the MC can 'store' souls and keep them away from Hades either. Then it must be possible for gods of sleep, war, etc, to also do this. Their spheres of influence also cross death and souls and they are stronger than the MC. Why can't they do this.

[collapse]

5.
Spoiler

Plothole: If it is possible for gods to create systems and give large benefits to their believers, why don't they do so? There will naturally be competition between the gods since they all wish to be believed in. It is like at the market- different brands battle each other for popularity which brings prices down. Why hasn't this happened?

Why has only the MC thought of increasing benefits for believers to increase their number?? This is common sense. It is like bargaining. Everyone knows that if the other person doesn't agree to the deal, you can add in more benefits to make them agree.

Are the gods all idiots? Where does the MC get his power from? If he uses it to strengthen his followers, to make a little boy constantly stronger than a huge monster must be very draining. Add that to the system, the houses and torches and other stuff he makes, and etc. How is faith converted to power for there to be such a irregular occurence? I do not think the math adds up, especially compared to other gods who have much more believers but somehow has less power and energy available to do this kind of thing. I mean, compare the MC's believer's powers and buff to that of a cleric from the opposite church? It is unnatural like a child defeating an adult with bare strength.

[collapse]

I'm thinking of paying for the complete novel, it's been fun so far, I hope the book won't disappoint in later chapters.

This is a decent read for a Chinese novel which doesn’t follow the usual crappy story template that was forced onto them. This story can be seem as a time killer rather than an genuinely interesting story. This is due to the lengthy and drawn out ‘fillers’ that has a resemblance to slice of life.

The reason I gave it a 4 is because I like the story and it is clearly different from the usual overly saturated Chinese story template. If you like slice of life genre with some mystery... more>> and focus on world building. Then, this is for you.

Note: like most CN, MC is pretty smart and calculative, but not a genius.

Pros

-Fresh idea (as of the time of writing)

Spoiler

MC being a god that create laws similar to RPG that effects his believers in a world where a multitude of stronger gods exist. He fights for believers that converts to his faith, which gives him divinity that can bend laws and make his existence more pronounced.

[collapse]

-Clear cut growth.

Spoiler

The story has clear growth via an RPG system our MC makes. The only problem is the growth here caters to mostly his believers and not the MC directly. Which can be viewed as a + or a -.

[collapse]

-Numerous characters

-Heavy world building

-The story isn’t predictable. Gives a sense of mystery.

-Making things that should be problematic into an advantage.

This is 1 of my favourite aspects of this series. The ability to make problems to gains goes well with the whole God esk nature of the story.

-MC is mature and calculative, but still make mistakes sometimes.

Cons

-Story screen time mostly follows MC’s believers while MC himself watches from his divine realm.

Note: Our MC barely ‘directly’ interacts with the world, despite being capable of doing so.

-Story drags out a lot which no significant contribution to the whole plot. (Filters)

This is the main downside of this story. Unlike most Chinese novels, this story doesn’t make use of your strong emotions, like hatred, annoyance and lust, to push the plot forward, which gets boring quite quickly. Though, this can be negated by simply stop reading for a week or so when you get sick of it.

-Barely any depth on characters.

This is due to having way too many characters, which many having equivalent importance. Hence, shallow character development. This includes, the MC.

-Rarely any comedy

The comedy in this story sucks. Within the 350+ chapters I’ve read, there are only 2-3 times it was funny. Those those 2 or 3 jokes were really impactful, but the comedy is basically non-existent.

-Build up/ suspense, isn’t executed well.

Once you read the story you’ll understand. What I can say is, it is mostly due to the slice of life feel of this story. <<less

Honestly, it isn't a full 4 stars

The concept and everything is nice, the pov-shifting is also acceptable, but I just dislike the characters and the general style of the novel. The MC for example, is a bit dumb and a goody two-shoes, and feels a bit like a caricature rather than a real person written into the story. The author uses comedic relief quite a bit, but not in a good way imo.

--> Definitely worth a read, but definitely not one of my favourites

I really want to like this novel, it offers a refreshing twist on the whole managing a game/players genre by making the natives of the game world the players. Too bad the novel is lacking in so many other aspects.

I feel like the author read Game of the World Tree and wanted to create a replica of that novel because so many elements seem straight ripped from that novel.

The problem is that the world building is not anywhere near as good, and the characters are all undeveloped. The enemies are... more>> also idiotic. The players fight a group of elven warriros who are in hiding, the players have a skill that allows them to see the hidden elves, so they attack the elves. The elves are apparently so confident in their stealth ability that they allow a third of their number to be taken down before they even think of retaliating. This is like 50 elves we're talking about. They just sat there and watched 15 of their friends be killed for all they know. So s*upid. And they're supposed to be skilled veteran warriors too.

If you want to read a game management novel done right, either read This Game is too Realistic or Legendary Mechanic, both are better than this. <<less

This is my first review because, this is a novel that I really hope continues. I'll start of with the main points. Be aware at the point of the story we are only the part where the MC is starting to get strong relative to his contemporaries (gods)

1. MC - imagine a normal guy turning into a god and getting game admin powers, that's literally him. I find him very relatable like when I play total war or 4x games. This is a still a power fantasy so the... more>> MC has an edge compared to his rivals but it's not at the point that he can just one shot them.

2. Characters - they are really memorable and always serve a purpose in the story. They each have unique personalities that complement each other (my favorite being the lion god whose done -_- with the mc's antics).

3. Setting - I don't really have a lot of opinion on these matter since the world is only starting to move at the point of story. Literally at the current last chapter is where the higher gods are starting to die or getting involved and other countries are starting to notice him but personally it's pretty okay and not overblown.

4. Atmosphere - currently it has a slice of life vibe but I feel it was planning to get serious in the future since next divine war is looming on the background. Or not this just my personal opinion.

5. Power System - Simple and generic, I don't mean it in a bad way since most novels I read here got over convuluted power system that it just becomes a drag to read and by the end you are eligible to a degree in quantum physics.

Yeah it's fine, MC gives his followers a game system using his divine power. They may seem op but they're not it's just that the other gods are pretty selfish and doesn't really care about their followers compared to the MC although the MC does have an op ability the main reason why he's followers are strong is because of the attitude of the other gods.

Later in the story he got in a fight with the another god. This god just gave a buff to his follower to try and overpower the mc's followers and the one of the reason MC won is because the other gods followers doesn't know how use their powers efficiently.

6. Pacing - this is my first review so I don't really know how to grade pacing but from the amount of novels I read, this is one of the few that I actually read every chapter meticulously. Admittedly in some novels I skim arcs that I find tedious or boring. 😂 7. Pov (or how characters react to the world I dunno) - I find it satisfactory where the residents are starting to view mc's church as crazy and his followers are aware that they may be turning insane 🤣. I lot of gripe here seems to be that the natives adapted easily forgot the fact that the MC actually spoonfeed his initial followers game info and the new followers view the church as anomaly. Overall I found their reaction to very acceptable and entertaining.

In conclusion the novel is very good.

Plssss author if you are reading this. Please continue this novel, this novel restored my faith in humanity and revived my cat. Contact me or whatever <<less
