read this to it's current chapter and I can tell you that it's not that good

basically MC is a dungeon lord and gets a dungeon core with the power to get people from earth to become "gamers" in his dungeon. but these gamers are actually just the weakest and lowest lifeforms in MC's world.

MC has to expand by conquering other dungeon cores and doing several other specific things to increase the amount of "gamers" that can come into his world and upgrade them or give these "Gamers" more things to... more>> do.

so basically he creates his own economy and sabotages the items that he gives the "gamers". basically he pretends to be a game master and creates the MMO for the "gamers"

it sounds really fun and original but at the end of the day, the MC does nothing besides scam the gamers and try to get stronger. the novel isn't paced well either so 500+ chapters, there still are not much upgrades to the dungeons besides the player count increasing and several basic features of an mmo present, so it gets very stale and boring the more you read.

in over 500 chapters, nothing much has happened and the MC is still exploring his dungeon... the MC hardly matters at all because he just sits on his bu*t and scheme on how to make the "gamers" play becoming his workforce.

while the novel keeps on hinting that the underworld is full of strife and war, the MC is left alone to slowly explore his dungeon and clean it up and play "dungeon master" with his "gamers".

soon, the majority of gamers start clearing the areas and become proficient at killing the enemies for him (by going through su*cide runs because they become aware that mobs do not respawn), but then and then MC gives them respawn penalties and does his best to keep some of the monsters alive so that they will lay eggs (respawn) which again, makes no sense because monsters take a while to grow back but new players are just going to keep coming in...

arcs like this keep on repeating itself and it gets really bland after maybe, 200-300 chapters depending on how tolerant you are.

basically gamers "conquer an area" -> "MC sabotages the players" by -> introducing new "game mechanics" or giving them penalties -> gamers somehow enjoy these new "mechanics or penalties" -> MC gets mana -> upgrades by opening new "area" -> repeat

i can't write a review on the arcs too because so little has happened and theres really nothing to talk about even at the current raws

the novel is supposed to be funny but it stops being funny since everything the MC does or introduced is loved by the gamers no matter how ridiculous or how terrible the new mechanic introduced is

Honestly an extremely disappointing novel. Very much so. To the point that I'm tempted to give it a 1/5 instead of 2/5, but given that I enjoyed it to some extent at the start, I feel like it's not the worst novel possible.

It starts out somewhat interesting, kinda fresh in a way. It had a fair amount of good comedy and I enjoyed reading it a fair bit for at least 100 chapters. But then it just got progressively worse. At 200 chapters, it was kinda dull and hard to... more>> read, but it just got worse and worse. To the point where it was a pain to read and the only reason I kept on going was to finish what I started. But not only is it repetitive, it also just gets way more unimaginative as we go on. It's truly one of the worst stories I've seen after the initial decent chapters. The characters all suck, the immersion is minimal at most, the comedy is non-existent, nothing progresses as everything just stays the same, seriously, nothing changes, NOTHING.

Seriously, it's as if the author lost all and any motivation to write a good novel, I can't feel anything for any of the characters. The gamers are just minor characters I don't care about, so is the rest of the cast, even the main character feels like nothing but a hopeless, boring schmuck. None of the characters matter, nothing anyone in the story does matter either. Geez, such a catastrophe. It just doesn't work out with soulless charcaters that doesn't care about anything, the mc's whole character is about how he doesn't show any emotions, doesn't care about anything and is completely soulless, but the author didn't do it in a good way, he did it in the "this guy has no real place in this novel because he has no motivation or emotions" kind of way. I might actually never have seen a novel with more boring and dead characters, where no character matters, not even the MC.

Oh, and the ending is just the cherry on top on how bad it got. It just ends with no developments. Yup, pretty much axed, but there's not even any attempt at tying loose ends, at most we get a rapid "okay, these are a few secrets, let's tell all of them at the same time in 2 chapters, let's also ignore every other important development and the entire story". At least other authors tend to try axing their works in a graceful, but not this one. I was so close to giving this a 1/5, which it actually deserves. <<less

Read it upto its current chapter through MTL and it's damn funny, author is really smart and his writing doesn't have those glaring deficiencies that plagues the chinese novels generally have.

This was the first novel of this genre that i'd found myself reading and, as much as I don't like admitting at this point; I did enjoy it at first.

If one could graph my attention and interest with the more chapters I read; you would find that I did in fact, turn half-way mentally ret*rded and stopped paying attention to the plot and appreciated the real-time interactions, which seems to be the primer of the story.

The world seemed large and detailed at first if I recall, yet I do remember... more>> the disappointment as I realized there was nothing really explored and no drastic or even slightly interesting changes happened that weren't out of my expectations.

The characters were bland and couldn't receive any attention nor affection from me; the reader, which showcased the mediocrity of the author's abilities and from what I thought after reading this, perhaps the reason for his writing, which after all this spiel seemed to be purely commercial, not that there's anything wrong with it--but once you get caught with your pants down by the reader in this circumstance, it doesn't bode well in my opinion.

There was a reveal at the end, which could sum up my feelings about my novel quite well, methinks. Turns out Sherlock wasn't his only name, which should have warranted surprise and thought into the matter, yet I recall my feelings being similar to a tired old man with dementia who had just walked miles and realized 'shite this home.'

Mediocre, at best. Couldn't give three stars with a good conscience. I don't really wanna tr*sh the author too hard considering my initial enjoyment and the difficulty of writing and that it wasn't a total waste of time... yet... perhaps another way of bringing the bread home could be in his considerations. <<less

This is a hilarious light novel! It's basically about a man playing make-believe so that his subordinates are having fun. Thats the plot. It's very similar in humor to "Lazy Dungeon Master" and "To be a Power in the Shadows!"

The most important thing for this novel is comedy. Its all about how the protagonist is going to swindle some people, make as much money as possible, all while keeping his minions happy by creating a "rpg world" in this fantasy world.
The protags minions have inmortality, which none of the other members of this world has, which makes for some great comedy for how the other characters react to these gamers.

Spoiler

I’m the commander of the Eternal Kingdom Dungeon! I’m GreenBeanPreciousLady. Tell me what missions you have for us. We’ll accept all missions. Can you tell us the rewards beforehand?” the Houndhead Man said.

Before Fishballs had the chance to reply, a sharp Short Sword penetrated GreenBeanPreciousLady. The grotesque blood splattered on Fishballs’ face.

GreenBeanPreciousLady’s chest was a mess.

“Shucks... ”

GreenBeanPreciousLady screamed and looked angrily at the Houndhead Man behind them.

“Sorry, GreenBeanPreciousLady, the Strange Encounter Mission is mine!” the Houndhead Man comrade said.

“D*mn, I just lent you 30 yuan to recharge your phone account yesterday... ”

GreenBeanPreciousLady didn’t complete her sentence because she couldn’t speak.

She fell down to the ground with a thud.

Fishballs looked stunned at the incredible scene. His eyes almost popped.

The Houndhead Man that had just killed his comrade walked forward and smiled earnestly. His face was stained with the blood of his comrade. He said to Fishballs, “I’m DreamlessInsomniac, the most senior commander of Eternal Kingdom! Even Sherlie has to pay me respect. What Strange Encounter Mission do you have?”

Fishballs was stunned for a few seconds. Then he waved his hand and said, “Arrest him!”

Good novel turns bad.

It's a dungeon novel with a new mechanic and fresh change from the usual dungeon novel out there. Here, the dungeon is connected with reality. A devil summoned humans from the real world and the summoned humans treat this dungeon as the first virtual reality game in the world!

You can imagine the hype and excitement, right? I am also very excited reading until that point. There's also many other dungeons, and surface world. Just thinking about the battles, wars, and fights to conqueer the world with unlimited... more>> and undying gamers make your blood pumping.

Unfortunately, it's not that kind of world with that setting. The devil is not evil and the world is very peaceful with peace-loving lichs and monsters, there's no evil creatures, no invader human, no conspiracy!! and no conquer dungeon at all!!!

My dream is shattered, I was very disappointed and feel betrayed... This is a scam!! <<less

Update as of Chapter 501: It's gone downhill recently. This is primarily because the focus has switched from Sherlock, who is an interesting character with plans and strategies, to the gamers, who are disinterested normal people playing a video game. The times it does focus on Sherlock or other characters of the Underworld it really just repeats the same old things again and again. It's just not very interesting anymore, which is sad. As of c501 I have dropped the novel. I still recommend reading it, up until this point;... more>> the journey was fun.

--- --- ---

This is a really fun novel. It's not very serious or complex; don't expect a ton of amazing plot twists.

What this is is a parody, and if you approach it realizing that, it's really a lot of fun. Basically, this is making fun of all the novels in which the characters go to a video game world and then try to immerse themselves in character with roleplay and what not, by instead depicting a more realistic approach: a horde of immortal, property-obsessed gamers trying to do everything in their power to get ahead in the game, treating the "NPCs" as meaningless side characters and talking about out of game stuff and coming up with cheesy strategies to overcome the tasks the "game developer" gave to them.

Except it's not from the gamer's POV. It's from the NPC's; specifically that of Sherlock, the Devil who runs the dungeon, who is the only person aware of the gamer's true nature and trying to abuse them as a free work force.

As such, you end up with endless hijinks, such as characters getting secret intel then dying, but respawning with said knowledge leading the natives of the world to wonder how the secret got leaked, or character su*cide bombing "bosses" with knowledge of their ability to respawn. It's hilarious and well written.

I give this a strong recommendation. <<less

Before I start, let me clarify that I'm an extremely negative reviewer. Most all of my reviews are 2, 3, and 4 star reviews at most. I've made popular authors on RRL with hundreds of chapters quit writing with a 3 star review. I consistently hit sore spots for authors so much that I try not to review things anymore because I cause too many authors to quit. PS I almost never give 2 stars or lower even if the novel deserves it.

So believe me when I say I don't... more>> give this series 5 stars lightly. But honestly, I have nothing to criticize. The series starts from chapter 1 being enjoyable. The translation is excellent, and my only gripe is something that's easily fixable since it's hosted on webnovel (the protagonist is named sherlock which is such an iconic name that it bothers me. So I just did a CTRL + SHIFT + J and replaced the name with Sheldon)

Next let me clarify that THIS IS A SLOW STORY. Slow does not mean boring, it just means low action. The characters in it achieve feats through hard work and clever ideas. The plot evolves meaningfully and the characters are enjoyable. If you are looking for the next dumpster fire isekai novel with cheat abilities, this isn't it. If you are looking for a novel that emphasizes crafting, comedy and slow meaningful progress, this is your novel.

As far as the comedy goes, its a gold mine. To me at least. We need to remember that not everyone has the same comedy tastes. I enjoy sad*st comedy more. So I hate comedy series like "Gintama". My taste in comedy is reflected in the tv series, "Frasier" or the korean fiction, "Running Away From The Hero" or the chinese wuxia "I Shall Seal The Heavens". Those are my types of comedy. So if those tickle your funny bone, you will probably really enjoy the comedy here. <<less

The word building is amazing! It feels very real and immersive. The comedy is fantastic too! Lots of misdirects. This is kind of similar to The Legendary Mechanic though the MC isn't transmigrated, but he is still an NPC. I love reading about the NPCs' reactions to the insane gamers.

I've read about the other readers complaining that the story is more focused on the gamers rather that Dungeon Lord Sherlock, which is kind of true. I'll say it's kind of 40% Sherlock and 60% gamers. Not a lot of people... more>> may like this, but it's fine for me. Also frankly the story of Sherlock isn't as interesting as the gamers' interactions.

I'm gonna stop at this chapter for some time, the novel is kind of getting boring for me. But I'll surely be back, though. <<less

The novel translation just finished a few days ago, the story is quite unique. Making it a hybrid of an Isekai and an MMORPG.

The players summoned by a dungeon lord with the help of a dungeon core to become free labor for that dungeon.

There is some funny scenes in the novel, however, most of them are overused in the timeline of the novel.

This novel suffered from a lack of time to develop, I feel its rushed but with great potential. If the author expanded the world building and story this... more>> will be a better book to read.

After finishing this, many questions are left without an answer and my gut feeling tells me this is just a prequel novel to another sequel.

I give this 6/10

Unique but lack of execution, rushed but interesting.

Read if you have time. <<less

The premise is very interesting, but the story is rather repetitive. It isn't clear what the MC's goal is other than to make his dungeon "better" or gain more wealth. It's more of a comedic story where the antics of the gamers continue to surprise the otherworld residents over and over, so it gets old fast.

A rather enjoyable guilty pleasure, I wasn't expecting to enjoy it so much.

But the concept of someone else getting the cheat and exploiting the fact we consider it VR is a fun concept.

Sadly starting Chapter 71 Webnovels is going to be Paywall blocked but assuming you read just that your daily will be enough to read one chapter a day.

... more>> Thankfully there are other Free Sites you can read from such as Wuxiaworld

That being said the formula never really changes and it becomes more and more dull as time goes on.

That being said I did finish all of the story in the end, during some of my downtime, and I'd say that it's a solid time-waster if you have nothing better to do.

This novel is not good, but I also can't bring myself to describe it as bad either. The novel is extremely light-hearted and an easy read, the chapters soar past. If you are looking for a story with a plot, character development, intrigue, and action..... go somewhere else. If you want to read a story that will have you smiling slightly, giving small chuckles and shaking your head then give this novel a shot.

Plot Description: 2/5

The MC of this novel is a "devil lord" dungeon master who wants to create... more>> the best dungeon ever. They are, however, broke and without much material support. So instead they recruit a bunch of "goblins" from the "otherworld". The goblins are actually players of a virtual reality game who think they are in a game, with all the advantages and disadvantages that go with this. The goblins can come back to life and will work basically for free, but have a tendency to be really weird. Once you get past this, the novel involves the MC directing the player goblins to help build up the dungeon while reading about their opinions on the internet.

The plot is very pointless and weird, not well developed, but does the job of allowing all the weirdness and crazyiness.

Action: 3/5

A lot of the novel has "action" in the form of the player goblins fighting one creature or another and getting killed. This isn't dragged out or described in over specific detail but is very short and fun.

Humour: 4/5

This is where the novel really shines. I can't help but laugh at all the dumb stuff that is involved, with the players acting how I would imagine actual players would. There isn't a lot of forced comedic interactions but rather just generally funny parts written in. <<less

I really don't have high hopes for this novel when I gave it a try but this is really a surprise for me.

Refreshing, Light hearted and humorous read about a Dungeon Lord slaving employing Beta Gamers from Earth to improve his newly acquired Dungeon.

WHAT TO EXPECT:

    • The hilarious perspective of 'NPCs' towards the goblin gamers queer antics.
    • Dungeon Lord improving the gaming dungeon quality
    • Gamers' reactions in the forums
    • Plenty movie, game and anime reference
    • about the legendary mechanic
      Spoiler

If you're familiar with Han Xiao and his interaction with the players, it's something similar to that.

      [collapse]
NEGATIVE/S ABOUT NOVEL (FOR ME) :

    • Naming. Author used a lot of preference. Sometimes funny but some are annoying since almost all the character names' are reference to some movie, series or games.

Decent, but while reading I just can't suspend my disbelief over players gleefully grinding constantly (mining, etc.) for crappy and useless rewards. No character level-ups, skills, stats? With how realistic it supposedly is, it's basically just a backbreaking job where you don't even get paid (lol here's some coins that you can use to buy food and... nothing else.) It's as if this was made by someone who doesn't actually know anything about gaming. The "players" are beyond s*upid.

All that said, it's an entertaining read, as long as you can... more>> ignore how s*upid everyone and everything is. <<less

warning: the series ends on a pretty rushed ending. It doesn't really affect my enjoyment of the novel, as plot was never the strong point of the story, but it might be an issue for some.

This story is an amazing, lighthearted comedy with characters that are completely whack. It kind of reminds me of a Discworld novel to some extent. Characters are interesting and cute, everyone is bonkers mad, and the main character Sherlock is absolutely overpowered but also dirt ass poor. Most of the story resolves around how he... more>> amasses power (through amassing wealth, and it is heavily implied that individual power is nowhere near as important as wealth).

The plot development is not the strong point of the novel. It is extremely weak, but I would argue that it isn't important at all. Rather, I focused on how the plot was developed in an entirely comedic manner, with deus exes everywhere, a lot of resolutions are just explained by "magic". The novel is terribly self aware, and the "changelogs" where sherlock explains the changes to the underworld game often self-reference this horrible plot resolution. The writing style of the changelogs and the reactions to it are hilarious and easily my favourite part of the novel.

Overall, if you're looking for a breath of fresh air from the weak-to-strong plot-armor protagonist who saves the world, and a healthy interest in comedy beside, you would love this novel. (4/5 because of the overall lack of plot, but if it were rated solely as a comedy instead of a fantasy it easily gets 5/5) <<less

A decent novel but the lack of meaningful progression and fillers made me lose interest in it. The novel tells the story of Sherlock, a thrifty superior Devil who finds ways to exploit and rein in the summoned gamers and his staffs to keep the costs low. If you like something funny and relaxing to fill your time, this novel might be of interest.
