How To Live As A Writer In A Fantasy World

Description

Reincarnated in a fantasy world. All of the novels worth reading here appear to be SAT English problems. So I began writing my own fantasy novels as a hobby to augment my previous job.

However, the novel I wrote had an odd ripple effect. That’s fantastic as well.

Honestly I enjoyed when MC releases his book and how absurd the world reaction more than the slice of life story.

It's like Tarrot Club in Lord of the Mysteries. The difference is that the Tarrot Club discussion focuses more on the main story and showed the other characters reactions to MC absurdity

The concept of the story is interesting having a fantasy writer reincarnate into a fantasy world and their story affecting the world. The writing and translation are also good so that I didn't question what I was reading much. Finally, the love interests were unique so that they didn't blend with each other, and each had a different relationship with the MC that affected how he treated them.

But besides that I can't say there's a reason to read this story. First off the MC is bland. He doesn't have any... more>> goals besides writing and even that is just a hobby. He relies on his family to protect his identity from those who are after him but even so he doesn't seem to really care if anyone finds out and even leaves clues so that some love interests will realize it themselves. The MC doesn't initiate any situations or relationships and anything that happens to him is just because someone else started it.

Spoiler

He begins to date Marie, the duke's daughter after she confesses to him but even that feels empty. The novel shows her feelings towards him grow even though he just thinks of her as a good friend and only wanted to reveal his identity as the writer to her. Yet since she confessed to him, he decides to date her and reveal his secret anyways.

[collapse]

Time again he is shown how his story has affected the world with demons and kingdoms all wanting to know who he is because his story is so popular, original, and influential. But his attitude towards his writing never changes. It's a good thing that he doesn't change how he writes but the MC just doesn't take the situation surrounding how people treat his novel seriously. He hides behind the fact that it's a hobby while people are literally bribing his publishers just to get a glimpse. His family doesn't help in how they baby him as the youngest so that all he has to focus on is writing whatever he wants. Also I hate it when a guy reincarnates into a younger body and acts like a young boy even though they're actually almost thirty years old. Grow up and stop blushing all the time.

Overall it's a not a terrible read for when you're bored but if you're looking for something that's creative or interesting then look elsewhere. <<less

The beginning of the novel is good, but at the end of the day this is just another "oh-so-great-MC"

I don't understand why korean MCs always got praised (to the point almost worshipped) by their peers, I mean they just slightly has advantages over something...

Spoiler

Imagine a world that has going around for thousands of years, only to find that its civilizations not developed enough in terms of literary. But then our MC with his little advantages writes novel that made a huge impacts for that brainless civilizations. Just because his novel is easy to read, he somehow made a fortune, got praised, and people literally flocked to him like a hoes.

[collapse]

I don't mind harem genre, but please for the love of God...
Spoiler

Make those girls has personalities for Pete's sake. Marie loves our MC because he's nice to her, Cecily fell in love with our MC because she's found out that he is their race's savior, Adelia likes our MC because he's super nice to her (again). What's next? Whenever the girls fell in love with MC, they always downgraded becomes a 1D-linier characters that lost their personalities.

[collapse]

On my end, I can guess the overall plot of this KR Webnovel for hundreds of chapters ahead.

1. MC publish new volume
2. MC got praised by the world
3. Due to his popularity, MC has a high chance to get laid
4. MC deepening his bond with one of the heroines
5. MC get laid with the said heroine, the heroine will enter MC's harem group
6. MC write a new volume
7. Back to number 1.

one final thing...700+ chapters needed to complete the story, hell this is not even an adventure novel, it's just an mature, happy-go-lucky novel where our MC (Isaac) has almost zero struggle. It's not like he's destined to fight an evil entity/organization... so why would the author stretching it? Clearly indicating that author milking this series. <<less

Instead of a story about swords and magic, it's a story about how the pen is mightier than sword with a sprinkle of action in between. There are people complaining about how the novel that MC wrote got world-famous suddenly without any reason but this book actually gives clues on how it got famous later on.... more>>
Spoiler

It does says how the novels are actually very hard to understand and only nobles read them. But the novel MC wrote is actually read and it was also said how commoners actually can understand it and if not can understand it later on because the words he used are easy to understand.

Also it actually educate people on how the races are and makes them understand that they are not bad as everyone thinks they are in an easy and fun (?) way. This makes the demons see the MC as a benefactor for their race because they want to connect to humans and other races.

[collapse]

It does have some weird instances like in almost every arc the girls who likes the MC whispers some endearing remarks when they are near the MC, the MC will say something like "Did you say something", "Huh?" Or "What?", the girls will be like "Oh nothing... ". I have no problem if a girl does it. But for some reason every girl does it. It makes them seem like they have the personality. The author does great job describing the girls before they fall in love with the MC but right after they are in love they start whispering or get red whenever MC looks at them MC.

Though the best thing about the MC is probably how he isn't dense. He suspects that the girls have some kind of feelings towards him whenever the girls act like how I said before but sometimes won't question them until they themselves tell him. <<less

Great start & Cool concept.

Then it just fall flat. Sometime confusing. I sometime check if I'm on correct novel.

From the start it was shown that the author obviously want to expose his secret, So there's so many unnatural situation.

... more>> So many contradiction. MC introduced as smart, cool- headed, well spoken & mature/older.

But to accidentally expose his secret, suddenly MC become easily shy, clumsy & not very bright. (Why would you use same type of notebook & many others)

Same with heroin/supporting characters, each introduced so detailed with varying traits. Just to become white noise & forgettable. <<less

A wonderful story so far that takes an interesting twist on the reincarnation story trope. So far there isn't some big bad that is threatening the world and the MC doesn't have some super power like perfect recall or a system. It's about a guy who simply wants to write a interesting story and changes the world because of it. I can't recommend this story enough if you are tired of the world ending story's and just want something with good substance and drama to keep you interested.

When if comes... more>> to the romance it seems to he really well done and is progressing nicely. I look forward to seeing how everything develops.

Finally when it comes to the translation it seems to be really well done. There may be a few mistakes in the early chapters but it's never enough to distract from the read.

Over all 5 stars and I look forward to seeing where the story takes me. <<less

The novel may seem a bit slow moving to some, but I find that the slow pace brings the reader deeper into the story. The translation is great, which is exactly what you want for a story of this caliber. Although I recognize others saying the plot is “tropey” I believe the execution is what matters and that is where this novel excels.

With many other novels wrapping up (Kidnapped Dragons etc.) I was looking for a read to feel immersive and engaging. This does exactly that! In particular, I greatly enjoy the tribulation our MC goes through without it ever feeling too overpowered or overdone. This novel does a great job of creating and maintaining the relations our MC goes through and I would highly recommend it as a new mainstay in anyone's reading rotation.

The novel has quite a unique plot where the MC is a famous author remain hidden and react to everyone reaction about his books.

But that is all, the remain part is just familiar harem stuff and the pace is so slow with lot of uninteresting events.

Seeing the good review, I will try to read some more, hope it will get better

I stopped reading at chapter 51 because I had a premonition of it slowly turning bad the further I read. Based on the reviews I think I was right.

As far as I know, the world-building and the harem are the 2 essential things in this novel but the author is not the best at portraying the character's personality and development.

The main character should fully know that in the new world filled with several different races and magic and sword masters roaming the place, things will develop differently compared to Earth.... more>> His introduction of concepts and ideas in Exo's biography is too attached to his old world. Instead of a steam engine train, why not make it a magically-engineered train with implemented wind magic so that it doesn't have to have tracks on the road and risks the possibility of dividing natural ecosystems? Or just make a flying airship, a magical horse that can never exhaust itself or a self-driving carriage.

What I value the most in fantasy settings is the mysterious and infinite potential magic could offer. And I think the protagonist, unintentionally or not, still sticks to the already developed ideas on Earth instead of creatively combining the inventions of modern technology and magic to create something entirely new. The protagonist is writing a novel, a world in which he can create anything in it but is bound by his past life's common sense.

The harem is not that interesting to me. I heard the further in you read the more p*rny and smutty it is but I stopped myself from reading anymore to save my emotional baggage. But even in the 50 chapters that I read, the femleads aren't too different from each other. Sometimes I even mixed up the 3 girls together and it's until later chapters that I was able to discern the different female leads.

In conclusion, this novel is only good at first but turns into smut the more you go in. The world building is very interesting but unfortunately, the author didn't develop it in an interesting and compelling way. Also, the protagonist is literally a guy in his 40s who should be having a mid-life crisis by now but instead is acting like puberty just hits and he didn't bring his emergency teddy bear. <<less

I can't believe I force myself to read chapter 201.

I like how the story first started off for the first 30 chapters or so.

Then, everything went downhill like the MC doesn't have any more brain power.

Sure, he is splitting his mental and physical strength between writing his novel and being a student in a school that takes no-sh*t from half-ass students in a country that has nobles and kings. I do understand the stresses that an environment like that can cause for modern society, people who are used to freedom... more>> and no obligation to serve someone who is higher in social status than them.

However. the fact of the matter was that the MC is f*cking damn 40 years old inside. When he dies, he is old enough to understand human society. His mental strength as an Author and a Writer in the modern-day society of Earth isn't supposed to be a joke. But what happens when he goes to school and meets other people? It's like his brain is dead and gone; worse, he feeds his mentality thinking strength into a dog's mouth.

He can sense that the woman around him thinks of him differently, but what does he do? Form a f*cking damn harem? His parents are in a one-to-one relationship; where the f*ck does he get the idea that having multiple wives is a good idea? Does he care for them? As what? A friend? Or because of their looks? Does he even f*cking damn love them as an individual?

I read until chapter 201, and all that I found was the author and the MC seems to view women as nothing more than stepping stone.

Especially Cecil, the demon princess who was next on the throne. Really... this person could have been a great character, but in the end, she's like a copy-and-paste girl who has a large burst, high magical power, and high social status, and that was it. Where the f*ck is her Individuality as a person who has lived for 100+ years? She has very good memories... but where the f*ck was her mentality and comprehension skills? Does she like the MC? After reading Chapter 201 three times over, I found that Cecil's IQ seems to decrease the longer she interacts with the MC. It doesn't feel genuine but rather far too much like plot force.

Marie is another story. Sure, her feelings feel more genuine to the MC, but the opposite isn't true. Sure, the MC's character is the type that won't initial anything when it comes to relationships in romance-wise, but f*cking damn seriously, he's far too much of a pushover when it comes to pretty ladies. It feels like his feeling was very half-assed and like he was just going with the flow of things. Like, what the f*ck? Dude, you're f*cking damn more than 30+ years old mentally! Where the f*ck is your character development?!!! You're a human who lives during the Modern Age of Technology and information advancement; how the f*ck did you turn into a f*cking damn naive little boy who turned his brain and thinking off when meeting with pretty ladies?

Sure, that society is based on Noble and such social classes, but if you are going to use the society itself as a f*cking damn excuse, then f*cking damn play by its rules. Don't f*cking damn half-ass it. You made the society of that time period seem f*cking damn s*upid. Like their society didn't exist for any more than 100 years when, in fact, it had for more than 500 years!

Does the Emperor and their intelligent gathering of spies seem that f*cking damn s*upid? Was the Scholar and Wise Men of that Age f*cking eat their brain cell for the past 500 years? Was magic just there to eat their brain cell? f*ck, the MC made the intelligence of that world seem like it doesn't think outside of the boxes at all.

There are literally Gods in that world. Why the f*ck does it seems like the gods wanted that world to go to shit?

Anyway, the longer I read this novel, the more problems I seem to foresee and think of.

The Plot Devices for the MC are seriously starting to make me want to throw my PC away.

All in all, here's my rating:

Character Development: 2 Stars

World Building: 3 Stars

How much I enjoy reading this: 3 Stars.

Would I recommend this: No.

Would I reread this again: No <<less

Honestly the premise of this novel was quite intriguing however it soon falls apart into a complete unrealistic mess. A novel can have an impact yes but change the world get rid of 100 of years of discrimination and hate with just a few words yeah sure. The love interest aswell the author had such an interesting character in cecily who had depth emotion drive and then we get the FMC who is bland as a card board box with her only redeeming features being a duke who likes the... more>> MC and is pretty honestly such a bad character why the author chose to focus on her is beyond me. Very surprised how well I liked it considering there is very little swords and magic in a swords and magic fantasy. Binged read all available chapters in 2 days. Amazing how its so different from a lot of fantasy genre and even for a slice of life that I find can get boring into the 10s of chapters with nothing important going on, this one keeps my attention drawn in.

Unfortunately 2 stars is the lowest I can go for this

have no idea how this novel has 4 stars when the author can’t even be bothered to do the bare minimum of writing to at least make this an interesting read.

The writing quality is bland and lazy at worst, nothing gets a proper introduction to at least make it interesting for the people to actually invest in the characters or the world.

You only need to read the first chapters to realise that we barely any idea who the main character... more>> or his reincarnation are, not his parents or the world his been reincarnated to and the story just instantly jumps talking about how the novels in the world are bad and then another jump to the MC making an amazing novel everyone loves.

Author just can’t be bothered to actually put in effort to try an make the main plot of his story an actual journeys to follow along and get invested in which is as a reminder “An author in another world”

Spare this as time as effort the author put into writing this.

While the concept of the novel has many elements of self-insertion, overall I think it's very well written despite that.

The main character while bland is active enough. The main focus is on the characters around him, the side characters are the bread and butter of the novel. It's like watching a reaction video, you already know about the video (the average bland MC that appears in every isekai) but you watch it for the reaction of the person watching (the side characters interacting with the MC).

The reasons for why the... more>> side characters are interested in the MC is also well-defined. He's decently attractive, has a defining physical trait (his red hair), has an interesting reputation (son of the red lion), and he's also unique personality-wise (mostly because reincarnated).

Overall I recommend it. Though you'll have to go through 35 chapters of edited MTL first. Onward soldier. <<less

TBH its not very bad, it has some good chapters and usually those are the chapter that focus on the STORY and not the ROMANCE

Seriously, the romance parts kinda tick me off, I don't know what feeling I have when reading those part, but one thing for sure is that the romance is mid at best.

If the author make the story more focused into the novel that the MC write, it deserve a better rating.

Also, it's just kinda annoy me when all the character that hung around the MC are... more>> all female, I know it's harem but I think it would be interesting if there is some male friend <<less

If you want to know how to mess up a good story with good premise, this is the example. Really. While the beginning is not good enough to be called masterpiece, I have good laugh and truly enjoy it. I also didn't expect it to be really good either, my expectation is near zero. It's low. And precisely because I read it without functional brain, I could genuinely enjoy it. But god damn mother in christ. I know the explanation is deus ex machina at best, aka just made some... more>> sh*t and let it happen. But that's not the reason why I eventually lost interest in this novel. It's the motherfokin MC man. Like, can you not FOR ONE SECOND, immediatly thinking le*d WHENEVER a FEMALE comes into existence?? I can tolerate it then but oh my god.

Spoiler

This guy IMMEDIATLY thinking on how to f*ck this pink girl, the very second he see her like, HOLD YOUR f*ckING HORSES MAN.

[collapse]

That's not the only reason. Trust me when I said the MC is not relatable and frustating to read. Like in one scene we see how intellegent he is, which stems from different mindset, yada yada. How he determined to 'protect' himself and his family and all that bravery an MC typically have. For him to be petrified when facing a crisis. Instantly turn into coward who cannot think, or mindless ape which succumb to his lust. Like, dawg, do you have a bipolar or something? It's so inconsistent which led to frustating feeling of 'what the f*ck are you doing, dumbass?'.

All in all, I truly wish for this to not degenerate further. The premise is good, and honestly, the only thing that keeps me going is that very premise. I won't talk about illogical occurence and cause in this novel because, like a said, I have a good laugh because of it. But lord, please, stop giving the MC new f*cktoy. And have some personality dawg. Yer not a fokin mental patient, aren't cha? <<less

The novel seems like it would be an engaging thing on the premise that the writing is something that people interested in tropes and writing would like, and that it might subvert them.

That simply isn't the case.

The author's relationship with their work and the world continues in a pleasing manner for a while, but the consequences of the work on his life and the hints at high stakes are completely undercut seemingly every time it happens.

At first you think its just fortunate plot to make it more consequential, but eventually... more>> it feel routine and unfulfilling without stakes.

I thought that the love between the two main interests was fairly well established, but I feel that with this genre there is a level of unfulfilling openness in the relationship that betrays our rooted attachments to those heroines and there's a level of degeneracy to trying to appeal to that without really giving the ML anything of consequence to his relationships.

I think its sort of at a point where it needs a re-write because the bones and structure of the work feel very appealing, but there is an element of boring routine success with the protagonist. His problems are always his emotional investment in his work, and his ability to work, and it feels like the affects it could have on his family and life are dangled like a carrot, but never actually established in the work, and eventually it feels like the illusion of consequence goes away. <<less

Well it starts out good. You have to suspend quite a bit disbelief to get in the mindset that MCs books became as influential as the Avengers and then some, the consequences for it are interesting...

I enjoy the waves every new volume makes everytime it drops, but the story itself is kinda boring, I guess is fair to say there's a lot of fanservice with this being a harem and all, it's just the story sometimes feels like it's barely moving at all... I think Koreans call it eating sweet... more>> potatoes. Even then it might be a good read but the relationship building stagnates after a while and it all feels more of the same over and over... Author tries to fix this by introducing new characters, since it's a work in progress it might work but idk.

A big problem is the MC his personality is all over the place, he's kinda dense too... Not in the sense of relationships or rather getting a gf, but everything else, those in the know treat him as a genius cause of his books but I keep constantly thinking he's an idiot. He's also supposed to be a history buff but only ever talks about WW2... That'll be as if I wrote a character to be a math genius so I constantly have him go over the multiplication table... If you want a real history buff try the girl from Villainess Turns into a Brocon.

I see ppl praising the s*x scenes, I usually make a point to skip explicit stuff in the non-smut works I read, but I went ahead and read these and... I guess it's fine, could be worse, it's kinda drawn out, I think we've dedicated like 5 whole chapters to very explicit smut and a lot more text to innuendos and talk about it, which is far too much for a novel that went 100+ chapters without it. <<less
