TL;DR: a lot of wasted potential.

This story had a fun premise, but ended up directionless. It's mostly about two very bullied people trying to make lemonade from lemons, which would have been ok if it didn't start with a bang and end with a whimper. The writing is lovely, but good writing alone cannot compensate for the other missing ingredients.

Most crucially, the worldbuilding is much too incomplete for it to be a good slice of life, and it feels like the author tried to Chinesefy Hogwarts, but failed. I can't... more>> really recommend a story where the setting is made out to be so interesting but actually doesn't serve as much more than window dressing. If only more chapters were like the last extras about the side character, which really shows the interesting parts of trying to hold on to your principles in a filthy world ruled by selfish humans. 3 stars. <<less

It’s very beautiful and light hearted.

The romance is steady and believable, and while Sheffield is definitely possessive and yan-adjacent, it’s remarked many times that he’s unwilling to do anything that’ll hurt Chi Lang, since he’s his rose...

Very good, light, and short story.

Loved it a lot!!! 😍 Though it was short it was quite good with just sweet text with no angst.

The author could have given more details I felt it was too short as there were lot of concept that could be added.

I recommend to read it as time pass or after reading any angst or depressing novel. 🥰

Neither the plot nor the translation does it for me. I finished without enjoying it.

The only good thing about this story was that Shou liked s*xual interc**rse and were not shy with his desires. I like this type of shou protag. It is refreshing after reading too many too-shy-to-speak-his-mind type of shous.

the source material was not bad actually, I just didn’t like the way the story was told, I guess.

This is first and foremost a romance novel. The focus of the story is the building love and relationship between MC and ML. Everything else is simply a tool to build upon their romance.

This is also not an intensive romance either. It is very mellow and light. MC and ML are more like awkward teenagers trying to figure out what they like best and how to best like each other both before and after they establish their relationship.

With that being said, I can see why most people are upset by... more>> the lack of plot development. But from what I can tell, this is the epilouge of the plot that has already happened. The happy ending after story if you will. The plot was always meant to solve itself without MC or ML's involvement because that was never their story to resolve. Just be a part of.

The author most definitely has a talent for world building but that world building was probably the biggest reason why people are upset. The world building and background information took away from the main focus and left a lot of people unsatisfied. Especially since the series events seemed to revolve around MC and ML but they were simply unfortunate extras that simply just got 'caught up.'

I rate this as a 3.5 star. Idk how to half star this if the site let's us but gave it 4 stars because it's honestly something good to read at least once. <<less

I agree with many sentiments of the other commenters. It started off strong and built up quick but then it just sorta... stalled and got lost, then it ended. I would absolutely re-read the start - mid again, but not to the ending. However, I don't really blame the author for any of this, or even the translator. Yes, there are certainly parts that could have been done better, but it was my fault for having certain expectations of the novel after reading the description and not looking at the... more>> tags. I expected drama, mystery, suspense... and as you may notice, not a single one of those is in the tags. The story is a nice, mellow, fantasy/slice of life/ school romance with a bit of extra spice added via demon king ml. Its kinda sad, sweet, fluffy, and missing a few points on the emotion department.

Tldr: Was nice. Go into reading it with no expectations and it's a fun little read. Ending is underwhelming, but sweet. <<less

Adorable story. This is first and foremost a simple slice of life love story between 2 lost people who found each other and fall in love. There's trivial amounts of plot, and focuses almost entirely on their relationship. There's like 0 enemies, MC manages to find and interact with his friend, and like 0 fighting or drama. But I'm a sucker for when people use/are obsessed with metaphors for their loved one, and I found the constant rose theme gorgeous. There's so much dog food as well, the couple just... more>> drowns everyone in sugar. Kinda love it. <<less

It started out very interesting and the development was pretty good

But at the mid part of the story, it started to feel lacking for me. Especially in the emotional side of the story.

There wasn’t much internal discussion whatsoever about the MC/ML’s emotions.

Like literally, the MC just suddenly said and realized that he had fallen for the ML. It’s just that for me, falling in love (especially in another world) is a big thing but the way the story went about it is just too literal. It made the story very... more>> 2D.

Another example was when

they had their first kiss. They just kissed and the MC/ML didn’t feel any sort a feeling. There was no description like maybe the MC feels a little embarrassed or whatnot. They just literally kissed and then the story went on without any explanation of their emotions.

Quite anticlimactic but still very nice to read. And even though it has ended, I still feel curious about everyone's future would be like.

Not in a cliffhanger, frustrating kind of a way though. Just that, the scenes were filled with this kind of domestic, familial and friendship warmth.

Like warm cocoa on a rainy day. A satisfying kind of coziness.

It's so relaxing reading the novel. It doesn't have drama, rather it's more of a slice of life and a little healing of ML.

MC's soul transmigrated as the room mate of the ML, demon king. MC, having no knowledge of magic really has a hard time coping up and was helped by ML most if the time. The ML saw the light of MC's soul and his positive outlook which attracted the ML.

Probably, if the story is lengthened and MC's struggles & improvements are added, as well as many antagonists... more>> and adventure to different races, this would be the best.

The start have been great, really. The plot is engaging, mysterious and my curiosity is all time high. But all have been futile. The climax to ending is underwhelming. I'm lost without direction and objective. No closure and I've been left hanging.

It was a good read. One of the very few novels where the transmigrator MC was not all too powerful and did not inherit the memory of the original for no rhyme or reason. He had to learn everything from scratch and I'm quite happy that the ML was there for him throughout his struggles. The ML was very devoted and thankfully just had the right amount of might. The ending wrapped up the story nicely and the translator did a superb job with the translation.

To be honest, I was initially not going to give this story an amazing review, but after paying more attention to the word choice in the translation, I have come to the conclusion that the original author meant this story to be more of a unexpected or charming comedy.

Unfortunately, I believe the translation is too literal or MTL so the author's comedy rhythm and tsukkomis, as well as the unique sentences miss the mark.

That said, the unfortunate current state is this, just a completely average story on all points if... more>> we take it at face value. There is too much focus on the romance and it feels like every plot element regressed and nothing was improved on or changed at all through the progression of the story.

MC transmigrates into a body, knows nothing about magic, tries initially to learn but finds out he sucks at it, then stumbles accidentally on a power, but then the power is pretty useless as he ends up not accomplishing anything with it other than beating a side character in a small bet that had no real stakes.... etc.

Essentially, nothing is accomplished in the story other than the romance.

But it was actually an intentional element decided by the author who wanted to write a plot that subverted the standard transmigrate-new-power-level-up-conquer-the-world stories. This was supposed to be a parody and romantic comedy instead.

The extras were pretty cute, and after I started paying more attention to the language (and back-translating the English into Chinese in my head), I started to discover more of the author's writing intentions.

I appreciate the translator's efforts and it is well-edited, but the overall charm of the original text is lost. <<less

It was very intriguing at the beginning and the premise got me excited but somehow it became boring and a chore to read pretty quickly. I like rereading the first few chapters every so often because I truly think the author had something going for them, but I think they became impatient and made the main couple get together quicker than what was supposed to happen. Very bland. Maybe just not my kind of story. I really liked the beginning but then the plot stalled and almost nothing happened. It's definitely more slice of life and very light romance (light in the sense of no angst and conflict).

A reviewer mentioned this story was most likely intended to be a parody or romantic comedy, but the translation didn't carry the tone well and it ended up like this. As I can't speak Chinese I can't attest to the veracity of this, but if true, it would... more>> definitely explain this weird feeling of nothingness the story gave me while reading. MC's ability, ML's potential enemies and his past... Like it all was supposed to be something, but that something never happened. If not true, then I just think the story failed in whatever it wanted to convey.

Like even the parts where conflict, drama or suspense could arise ended up in nothing. I felt like the obstacles weren't even obstacles and everything just sort of ended quickly or didn't go anywhere. The second half was even worse. Even in their relationship it feels like there was nothing - I didn't even feel any chemistry in them to begin with, they got together easily, progressed easily, no tension whatsoever. And that's supposed to be the focus of the novel, the romance. I found it boring and uninteresting.

All in all I just feel like my expectations (that were already quite low) weren't even satisfactorily met. I really like the setting though - If this were more focused on ML's identity and the story rather than just some light fluff and random "false" tension points I feel like it would have had a lot more potential.

As it stands, this is more like a quick read that you just sort of forget about after you finish. Personally I don't even find it that worth reading UNLESS you're really into or looking for some fluffy and light short read. <<less
