Ning Chuchu—a well-known green tea in the entertainment industry, best in lying and seducing others, but with poor popularity among the public.

One day, everyone suddenly discovered that the green tea had changed…

In a romance variety show:

A scumbag male guest affectionately said, “Chuchu, you look so beautiful when you cook. But be careful not to tire yourself out.”

Ning Chuchu replied, “Are you a garbage bag? How good at pretending. Instead of worrying about me getting tired, why don’t you come over and help?”

Scumbag male lead, “…?”

Ning Chuchu closed off her heart and crushed all the male contestants, not meeting a worthy opponent.

In the end, the production team asked her to choose one male contestant to hold hands with, and she…

Took away the stray dog the production team had adopted. A male dog.

—What was originally a romance show turned into Ning Chuchu’s comedy solo.

During an interview:

Reporter: “Was your collaboration with Director Song pleasant?”

Ning Chuchu: “It’s okay. It would’ve been better if he stopped knocking on actress’ doors all the time.”

— Director Song, a well-known figure in the entertainment industry, was blacklisted due to the unspoken rules he imposed on others.

Forced to do a live-stream sales promotion by her agency, Ning Chuchu smiled and said:

“Look at this face mask… It’s completely useless.”

“My skin is so good… Of course, it has nothing to do with face masks.”

“If you have money, go for cosmetic procedures. Buying this is just a waste.”

– Agency: …facepalm.jpg

In the end, the well-known green tea became a “scumbag detector,” a “holder of the hammer of Thor,” and a “level ten roasting master.” Countless fans loved her madly, peers praised her endlessly, and even her scumbag father left all his assets to her in his will.

Ning Chuchu humble-braggingly complained:

I didn’t want it to be like this, it’s all because of the Truth System forcing me!

In the entertainment industry, scumbags trembled in fear, afraid of being exposed by the fearless and straightforward Ning Chuchu. Many people wanted to blacklist her, smear her name, but she always managed to turn the tables and rise higher.

Later on, someone finally dug up some dirt on her:
As a rising star, Ning Chuchu actually had a fiancé!

When the news came out, the whole internet boiled.

Ning Chuchu refuted the rumors: It’s a business arrangement. There are no feelings involved, and the engagement will be dissolved soon.

Netizens: …Damn, you’re so ruthless that you even exposed yourself?!

However, her fiancé, a young and powerful figure from a wealthy family, publicly stated: Wedding preparations are underway.

Ning Chuchu: …You didn’t have this attitude before 🙂

The fiancé smiled faintly.

#The truth might be delayed, but it will never be absent#

Ning Chuchu: After being a “green tea” for so many years, it turns out that speaking the truth is gratifying!

Bizarre and fun.

I could argue about Chuchu's character for hours, since her character is the center of this story. To claim her character only in one word is to miss many nuances that are evident in the story. To say that she's OP is to put things too simply. Because many of her traits are blended together and the meeting with system and with progress of the story it allowed her to grow and change. Don't judge her if you read too little or haven't analyzed what happened in the... more>> story itself and what crafted her as what she was and what she is now.

Second to arguing about her character I can argue about "cliche", the settings themselves are not. And it's not about having system, face slapping and other things, the premise that she "has to tell the truth" is the biggest trump card of this story and things evolve around it. I have read many books that had a system, but I can't remember one that has such bizarre setting from the get-go. So even if you have pretty basic episodes in the story itself, like one-dimensional envious characters, face-slapping episodes, scandals etc. The main base of the story is the truth-telling.

So what the story is about is evident from the summary, actually summary exposed a lot of things lol But anyway, Ning Chuchu felt that her luck was depleting for the past two months, she was exposed by her step-sister here and there to be a green tea, the Internet was boiling and as a result on a fateful day of a press conference involving her filming Truth System bound her and said - everything will turn for the better, but you have to tell the truth. Ning Chuchu didn't take it seriously, she's been in the entertainment for two years and knows too much how unnecessary words can hurt your career, but when she opened her mouth she complained about director Song and the fellow actress being noisy when having fun. Shocked, she couldn't believe that she could not control herself, but what was different is the development after this first scandal expose, her career not only went up, but she herself changed. But it's not only jest telling the truth outright and not being able to control herself, there are many sides to this "telling the truth", which are fun to see where else she could use it and Ning Chuchu wittily looks for loopholes she can explore. So it's not just a blatant walking around and being uncontrollable, she changes to truth only when she wants to blatantly lie. So the Song director scandal, the story about masks and other things are present in the story, but some have more to the story then simple 'mask scandal', for example. The story overall is light-hearted, with ups and downs and is also pretty humorous. At least I enjoyed it immensely. And don't pay attention that villains are one-dimensional, they're not true villains anyway, they're just jealous clowns.

As for Ning Chuchu herself. I returh to arguing about her. I honestly dislike when people complain about characters for being self-motivated, having a selfish side etc. I mean, when you read the whole backstory, don't you know WHY she became like that? And no person is completely witout a fault, some to a bigger extent, but in her case it would have been fruitless to be kind and silly, don't you understand? Sigh. Really, I feel sorry for author who wrote and laid out the entire backstory for you to understand where Ning Chuchu comes from and what allows her to change. I'll try to say it without bigger spoilers. Her father cheated in marriage when Ning Chuchu was 8 yo, her mother loved her dearly, but in the fight for custody she lost. But in a short while her father married the woman he cheated with - Yun Shu. As ambitious step-mother she wasn't a soft persimmon of course, so for a while the young Ning Chuchu suffered under her guidance of blowing on the pillow. Ning Chuchu did not have the same means. But only then she got the idea of acting like a green tea herself and treat poison with poison and this is how her situation at home imporved. Can you imagine, she was around 10 years old when she acted like that, now she's an adult and green tea style since long integrated into her system. We call it green tea and hypocricy, but isn't life filled with it? Not every occasion and every person allows you to be honset and straightforward. Her acting style indeed reminds you more of a female partner than female lead. Through her life experience and her mentioning what she went through those two years in the entertainment we know that even if she felt aggrieved she had to suck it up, so it's not always like she agrees with what she is, but circumstances made her like this. Otherwise she could be easily blocked by others. She was so into fighting with ther step-mother for years that she lost herself in this fight and even agreed to be engaged, since it would help her in the general sense. It's not because of love, but because Xie Jinqiu is the best candidate among others. When she was a child she had no means to fight, no independency, but now things are different. With the arrival of the Truth System she could completely let herself go. Would it be possible for her to be as powerful without the system? I highly doubt it. The system is the one that allows her to be omnipotent, she uses her wit to get things done, but without the system she wouldn't even know where the problem lies. Letting herself go allowed her to reconstruct her mentality, while previously she could use courtecy and image of an elegant, kind (the list of good characteristics is long), but now she didn't want to get involved with things that simply upsetted her. It also changed her mentality on the situation of her family and her engagement. She was too preoccupied with getting things back that belonged to her, she was too occupied with using Xie Jinqiu as her external help, but now it's her journey to changes to be self-reliant and letting go of things that bothered her so much before.

Funnily, her straightforward character now really reminds you of basic heroine of the story. I've read so many stories that revolve around female supporting roles and many heroines are shown not in a pleasant way actually, but there is one group of honest, straightforward heroines (although their character is simpler).

What I liked about her that she is not perfect. She came from place where she found such a way to fight for herself and not be left behind, now she grew up and had a chance to change. Many female characters in the novels are actually unlikable, my least favorite should be salted fish, which is just lying down and accept things that she did not work for but come her way and MLs in those stories are nothing more but meal tickets. Ning Chuchu is ambitious, it's true, but what is wrong with her ambition? I think nothing. She set her goalds and she wants to reach them. Tbh in such setting where she strives for the top I think it also feels like a setting, because to be able to walk sideways you got to have capital and she doesn't want to owe anyone and wants to do it herself. If it's unlikable to you, then I can do nothing about it.

As for the ROMANCE. Well, since the story concentrates on Chuchu herself it's understandable that the romance might be bleak, which it is. So if you're waiting for a fiery love, sorry you've got the wrong door. As for why Xie Jinqiu changed his opinion on Chuchu and why he was moved. Well, here I admit that it was a miss from author's side. But from general assumption he knew that Chuchu wasn't comletely honest when she showed her feelings towards him, he could detect this fakeness, so their relationship wouldn't be successful if it continued like that, but then Chuchu changed and she showed her cards, since she openly asked for things and by this explored his bottom line. But because of her changes and her wish to be self-reliant their statuses in the relationship also changed, she's not the submissive part anymore. Ironically, it was her own words to him to justify her career plan, but later she indeed became what she wished for. I can only assume that to a man in power many people try to flatter him, but Chuchu was more honest about what she wanted and later detached from the line of needing him. She also stopped concealing her charm and flamboyance that is very attractive. From Chuchu's side she also started to change her opinion about him (also because she stopped seeing him as just means to help her). Although at first she felt like it was nothing more but an interest after her changes, but later he indeed showed nothing but kindness. Their development of relationship wasn't as prominent, but from one side it was also good, by the time they were ready it wasn't for getting into a business marriage, but a relationship in a true sense.

Overall it was an enjoyable read. I found the settings interesting, it was fun to follow how things developed, Chuchu had her own perks as a character. At least I was entertained :D <<less

It’s a face-slapping focused story with an OP protagonist. The Main Character of this story is Ning Chuchu. Basically she had some setbacks in her life. Initially she took on the persona of a green tea b*tch but once the Truth System came into her life, she had to tell the truth.

In this story, things go too smoothly for the MC. As she is the Heroine of the story, everything will go her way. Only when her stepsister found an evil bracelet to change her fate that the MC has... more>> setbacks. So when she has the Truth System, she only has to tell the truth and everything goes well for her even when she throws down truthbombs. In fact, the more she tells the truth, the better things end up for her. So while I like the storyline and plot, it does get a bit tedious if you don’t like an MC who always wins easily and faceslaps people easily.

This story does reveal MC’s reason for being a green tea b*tch in the first place and now telling the truth has helped her regain her true self. Dominant, fierce, righteous. So it is nice in that way.

As mentioned, this novel focuses on faceslapping and everyone bad gets really horrible ends. I find the ending of a character called Wang Mo to be too terrible honestly.

As for romance, there is very minimal.

Spoiler

In fact, she does have a fiance but he is just a tool for her revenge. Eventually this fiance falls for her and will court her. I would’ve liked if the story was longer towards the end and focused on their romance but the author did it in one chapter in the extras. It doesn’t really feel like the MC falls for her fiance tbh.

[collapse]

I also didn’t like the fact that some characters were introduced but not really expanded on. Some storylines were also left forgotten and used only when needed.

Like the characters in the Love shack livestream that she was in. They introduced so many characters and brought in a guy called Liang Rui but once she faceslapped 1/2 person in it, the cast of this Love Shack is just left in the background and occasionally mentioned.

Sui Feng, her stepbrother also had something going on that wasn’t elaborated on.

Spoiler

In the end, did he like the MC? What was that part where he was apologizing about how he said she was a hypocrite. MC said its okay and left but there wasn’t any followup on their relationship. MC said that he was the closest to her in her youth and only separated for two years but they seem more like strangers???

[collapse]

Even Pei Xingyan’s magical Buddhist face reading abilities wasn’t expanded on. Didn’t understand what his role was for in the story. I guess to bring in Pei Wang as a character.

The live broadcast or dramas that she is involved in is always barely mentioned. Like the Brother Sister Show. But theres lots of fan convo/barrage in between that ruined the flow tbh.

Anyway, it is an easy read and full of faceslapping. A lot of subplots that weren’t tied up well imo. <<less

Unrated since I didn't finish it or get through too much but isn't this novel just... generic?

I don't necessarily think generic or sometimes even cliche novels are bad but there's something exceptionally bland about this one that feels like it's a patchwork of every average entertainment novel.

Cool immediate face slaps, extremely mercurial netizens, antagonists who have precisely One character trait, side characters who look with heart eyes towards the MC, extremely rapid turnover time of like everything.

I mean even Ning Chuchu's backstory is dime a dozen - cheating rich father... more>> who married his green tea mistress and a fake white lotus stepsister.

She tears apart the entertainment world with her truths but they all seem to work out for her. Truthfully, we all have truths which no one wants to hear but by plot contrivance and loopholes she avoids those and everything works for her.

Even the system is just aggrieved system who doesn't understand the host type.

Male lead, cold unfeeling fiance who gains interest because of her overnight change in personality. And I have a bone to pick with the generic love reality show. Literally Ning Chuchu appears for a scene where all the other guests are, drops a truth bomb and smirks and then leaves. What kind of live stream is that where a guest appears for minutes?

Anyways I'm nitpicking. I don't get the high ratings. I don't demand much out of web novels but there's normally a pulse point for readers. I can't really see this novel having that. <<less

A nice story, the ending could have been better but don't think about it too much.

It is true that MC's relationship with ML did not fully develop, but that is because this story is not about their love, it is about the path to the success of the protagonist; ML's love for her was seen (growing little by little) in almost the whole novel, and was only properly reciprocated at the end, but with MC's mostly indifferent personality it didn't feel very romantic XD.

I LOVE MC's relationship with the system,... more>> it was the best of this novel! <<less

Love the plot and main characters.

there were a few plot holes but the novel is still enjoyable!

Only down side is that I wish the author went more into details about MC and ML love life and the systems life with both MC and ML as a kid.

This was such an enjoyable read because it was fun enough that it let me suspend any rationality while reading and I was able to ignore loopholes lol. I wouldn't say it's anything new or the best, but I also don't think the author was aiming for that. It's a generic trope with usual characters, and the writing kept up with what it was.

The only times I found it meh was the dating variety show with a premise that made no sense at all. It's one of those plot devices... more>> they could have done without.

I enjoy that the FL is not a purely good character- she's nuanced and that made her feel realistic in a way. Overall, a fun quick read. <<less

It’s a well crafted story and the MC is extremely likeable: a senior green tea actress who tends to repay the slightest grievance as she had to survive the intrigue in the family. It’s not a very new plot, but the interactions with the characters around and how the system is a kind of “weird help” makes the text kinda fresh so I did enjoy it in one sitting half MTL half falling back on my Chinese rudiments

Pretty good story! I love silly little novels like this, and it definitely bordered on absurd at moments.

I laughed quite a bit and had fun with it. Ning Chuchu is an interesting protagonist to read about since it's been a while for me where the main og FL has been the center of the story.

Seeing her journey of being a green tea to someone who's forced to tell the truth is a fun one. Lots of face slapping, mindless people, etc.

As for the romance, it was okay. I actually liked... more>> that they

left room for it to grow at the end, where her purely financial based engagement was ended and the ML asked to pursue her.

[collapse]

For Chuchu herself, some might be thrown off by her self-serving tendencies but honestly, loved that she knew what she wanted and wasn't afraid of getting gains for her benefit.

Overall, I'd recommend giving it a try if you want a silly little mindless story. <<less

Good story overall even if there were plot holes everywhere. Personalities are well written. Honestly, I didn't really like the MC very much. She is admittedly selfish and self serving, especially so towards the ML. I really don't see what the ML liked about her. As soon as her situation stabilized, all she really wanted was to dump him even after all he's done for her. Not once did I feel that she actually liked him, no sincerity at all. At the end, she gave him a chance to pursue... more>> her. I can't recall a single incident in the novel where she did anything for him, other than to give him a donut. Don't expect any real romance from this novel. Worth a read if you go in with the right expectations.

Edit: Should be 4 stars if you go in without the romance tag. <<less

The only thing I can add that hy-d-ra missed in their review is a detail about the romance.

Spoiler

From what I remember, the ML did not need to fall in love with her to establish their relationship. They were already an engaged couple, regardless of the interests involved or whether they had genuine feelings for each other. All she had to do was not push him away by doing extreme things out of her desire for revenge. I believe it is mentioned pretty early that her performance on the love show would have alienated him due to her sister's machinations. Her being forced to go on a love variety show while engaged was already problematic in many ways for their relationship, though I do somewhat recall appreciating that she informed him about it in advance. She didn't do anything to give him a green hat, so he accepted their future marriage. From there they learned more about each other and he built legitimate feelings for his engagement partner.

[collapse]

This story was hilarious and made me laugh a lot despite any plot holes there may have been. The female protagonist's character development was some of the best I have read in any story. She must confront that she has become as dislikable as her enemy and the truth system helps her on her struggle rediscover her true self. Well worth a read! <<less

The story isn't bad, but nothing spectacular. The plot gets predictable with some interesting events here and there. As Ecirteab said, it's generic.

I got my hopes up since I like green tea characters + showbiz and thought this would be a fun twist. Instead it lacks depth and has a few interesting plots with the rest falling flat. The execution could be poor since I read the MTL but I wouldn't fully attribute it to that.

The MC isn't exactly a "Mary Sue" but all in the same breath I'd say... more>> she is. She fits the genre: loved by all (except antagonists), solves all the problems/doesn't face any real repercussions, extremely pretty, tragic backstory, and more. The only characteristics I can think that wouldn't put her in the standard concept of "Mary Sue" is her past green tea self that isn't present anymore and outwardly self-serving actions. If the author delved into that a bit more and gave more nuance through actual repercussions for MC, I would have considered her not a Mary Sue at all. Alas, that's not how it ended up. MC isn't badly written but also isn't anything to write home about.

Don't get me started on the side characters. They were all pretty one dimensional with so much potential. Instead we were left with shells of who they could have been. They were abandoned or forgotten until the plot needs them for another thing to happen. Very disappointing to say the least.

on top of that I would like to know the wider lore about the gods/system since there is potential there, but the extremely slow progress of the plot has made me dnf this for now. From what I've seen in other reviews that isn't given much attention so I'm not missing much anyways.

Overall, if you don't mind these kinds of things and just want to turn your brain off, by all means read. Otherwise, I would say you're not missing much if you choose not to. <<less

Female protoganist is realistic not like those overly goody two shoes, virg*n marry, op mary sue kind.

I really hate those kinds of female protoganist so I like Chuchu being human.

It is normal for people to be selfish and it is normal for people to lie.

... more>> In reality "good person " is just a concept and not real, there is noo distinctive between good and bad, white and black, people are mostly gray.

And most importantly in reality lying is mostly something that hurts you (the person who lies) rather than other people. Cause one lie needs 10 more and grows and grows till it is unstoppable. The article really emphasised that.

I loved her personal growth journey.

I liked how ML didn't notice her much then started to liking her, (in my opinion) before he kinda sensed that she actually didn't like him so when she became bluntly honest, he started to notice her.

But what I liked the most where female protoganist said " Oh, look at him, I tried to coax him, treated him with kindness, showed I care but he didn't move and now I started ignore him he started to show affection " female protoganist has a normal observation skill and not dense when it comes to romance (or other emotional connections) like those usual fMCs in other CNs. I really can't stand that.

The romance is a tiny subplot so if you're looking for romance story, it isn't your cup of tea.

What I didn't like was how things revolved around Chuchu but she was/is heroine.

But I could have like the story more if there was more side characters more subplots and maybe romance of side characters.

It just, things revolve too much around Chuchu and alot of things are about Chuchu.

Side characters are two dimensional.

I actually thought the dog would end up being that jade bracelet god or something because it was acting weird.

I also thought her step brother had feelings for Chuchu.

Some of these things haven't been explained because the stort was short but also it is good cause I really hate this pseudo-in*est subplots, just because you don't have blood relationship these things becomes okay in these types of books, so creepy for me.

I wanted to know more about jade bracelet and the monk dude but sadly it was short. <<less

I loved this novel! It's now one of my most favourites.

It was not a very long artical to make to feel bored nor is it too short to make you feel like you haven't had enough (although I'd love to have more)

A lot of face slap that are not annoying and the OP MC, but the point to be noted is that all her OPness isn't unreasonable at all so it not even a little bit unbelievable or annoying

The thing that impressed the most in this novel was neither the plot, nor the romance and neither the any side characters

The thing I loved the most is the interaction between the MC and her system. I've read many novels with systems but this one left a mark in my heart like none other did. Probably because the system is not potraid as a high tech AI but as a kind of subordinate of the God who ensures the stability of the world.

In the whole novel the one and only time I shed a tear was when MC used her complete transformation reward to ask for the system to stay by her side forever. I was touched.

[collapse]

Anyway I definitely recommend this novel if you a nice and strong FL, a very ideal ML (though not much intimacy but the romance is still there), many great side characters with character development (though not much explored in depth), and the best story (acc to me) between a system and the host. <<less

a 4 feels too much maybe a 3.5/.7 is better suited IMO. Sadly couldn't find any extras : (was looking forward to knowing exactly how things are winded up by the author...

The novel's playfulness with an OG green tea MC being forced to speak nothing but the truth was very entertaining and fresh! XD I feel it was also executed really nice, exploring all the loopholes and find other uses for it too made the story so much more amusing.

Though I do believe that a better character background... more>> for MC's past as a 'green tea' would have made her character more 3D and pull the readers more. Other than that the romance bit is just so-so or less IMO, the emotional pull is very lacking throughout the story tbh. It's another standard cold CEO who gets curious about his changed fiancé thus pays her more attention which just grows and grows... tbh i'd rather she got with the ex-monk lol... even though they had zero romantic interactions, but I felt their pairing would have been a lot better...

Either way, this novel is worth a read and definitely entertaining and easy to mtl. There is no fluffy romance or even much of it-in fact the romantic subplot tag should be here- it mostly revolves around her few jobs, in the reality shows n like 2 movies shes in.

It's a light-hearted pass time novel with a simple plot, don't expect anything deep.

Honestly it was an enjoyable, short and light read. I liked that the MC is not one-dimensional, as in she has acted like a green tea before to get what she wants. She's ambitious and fun. I also like she doesn't fall for the ML so fast. He had to work hard to get a chance with her. He deserves it because he pretty much ignored her before and only got interested in her after the system arrived. The MC is a gray character and I really like that... more>> about her.

My favourite character is the system though. He a cutie. <<less
