This is a comfortable slice-of-life with sports background and full of family & friendship flavor.

I only know figure skating from old anime series such as Ginban Kaleidoscope, so I don't know how accurate the author's description of this industry. Nevertheless, the story is easy-to-read and give us good feelings about the sport.

MC died on stage as a wannabe idol in his last life, then got to be reborn some time prior to a certain "life-changing event". In this god-given second chance in life, he wanted to prevent various regrettable events. One of them, the death of his uncle due to professional failure.

His uncle was a figure skate coach, but failed to find any reliable athlete for the country till his death (in the previous life). So MC was willing to be figure skater in this life for the sake of his uncle... or at least, that was the beginning.

The story later narrated all the challenges he had to face and how he won. It was more than mere "journey of an ex-idol to win gold medal in the Olympics", but instead described the growth of a qualified athlete.

I learn a lot here. For example, successful athletes had to have strong heart as well as diligence and disciplines (high IQ, high EQ, high skills). Good talent is an advantage, but it is not the end-all and be-all. There are also dubious scoring anywhere.

Some things seem idealized, i.e. lifelong friendships between rivals, super supportive national sport organization, etc. The MC is also too perfect to be true. Regardless, at the end of it, the story is well-written and enjoyable.

Another plus: There are very few "Chinese nationalism". The author indeed beautified Chinese official sport organization, but they also freely praised their rivals and did not undermine other countries' athletes. Quite unusual for a Chinese sports webnovel. <<less

I'm a big figure skating fan for a few years now and was a bit skeptical when I started reading it since I was afraid going to be a typical OP!MC (who wins every competition while all his competitors are just there to point out how great he is) story. But its actually not!

I can tell that the author is a big figure skating fan herself. The ice skating choreography are realistic (and quite in line with the fast progression of figure skating these few years), scoring is also not... more>> over the top and she even mentioned in her author notes specific real programmes and figure skaters that inspired her to write the routine (which I recommend you to check out since you can better imagine the programmes she described!)

I also appreciate that all her side characters are quite well rounded and skilled themselves and wasn't there just to serve as a foil to the main character. They're all worthy competitors with their own skills and specialities. The author also highlighted not just the Mens Figure Skating but also all branches (Womens, Pairs, Ice Dance) and the differences in the challenges they face.

Although the MC is also quite OP especially in the beginning, like a previous reviewer said all of it will have consequences later in the future.

Mostly I'm happy that they're able to show how much the athletes love this sport and how much blood, sweat and tears they shed to be able to make it. The realities of figure skating are also shown quite well from the rigged scoring system, the injuries and even how expensive it is to make FS your career (although reality is often not as nice as shown here especially regarding how well all the competitors get along).

I really love this sport and I'm happy that the author tried their best to give justice to showcasing FS. All I can say this has become one of my favourite sports novel! <<less

5 Stars hands down. I have been waiting for a couple of years for someone to translate this.

What this story does quite well is to express the values of athletes, extreme self-restraint needing to be balanced by self-esteem (needed to not be overwhelmed when in a competition) and also we see how Zhang Jue and the other athletes work their blood, sweat and tears for this sport. But I think what made Zhang Jue so special aside from his talent is that

a) his circumstances being reborn actually affected him ... more>>

his health that caused to his previous death and him thinking he is an adult made him forego safety items in figure skating that will have an effect later in his career

[collapse]

b) It shows that with how Ice Skating can be so beautiful (because of the efforts of the athletes being encapsulated in show-stopping performances) but also presents the problems with any competitive sports from biased referees, problems with venues, downright abusive coaches and some athletes having to fight for themselves against their nation's figure skating authority.

c) Zhang Jue is so goddamn mischievous but also endearing and it spreads everywhere. In particular, I love his friendship with competitors of different countries. He adds so much life to the competition and shows how you aren't just competitors but also colleagues who respect each others work and friends as well.

and lastly, I find myself liking the romance aspect as well despite the age difference of a few years because a) he is already an adult in his head but also because ML is a reliable older figure that is not in the world of figure skating where he can be a random high schooler wanting some notes. It isn't sudden but it also isn't insisting itself in the story.

Can't recommend this novel enough. <<less

I finished reading this MTL, which was very understandable. I enjoyed everything about this novel, but one of the best things about the novel is that the MC is not an OP who wins effortlessly all the time. The MC has natural talent, but this is not enough to win as there are other talented people in other countries, and he works extremely hard and gets injured, even as his competitors also work hard and get injured, and everyone gives it their all to do their best.

All in all, it's... more>> a very realistic novel that clearly respects figure skating as a sport and the figure skaters as athletes. This novel truly embodies and embraces the concept of sportsmanship and honorable competition between people who love their sport, and it's what makes the entire novel as good as it is. <<less

I'll claim the first review.

It was actually very good. Actually, except for e-sport novel, I never read any sports novel. I dunno why, it wasn't my type at all. Then I tried this one, and it was really good. The characters felt really alive, Zhang Jue isn't omnipotent, like he will win every competition. And I like the author very much.

The author seemed like a fan of figure skating, I only know Hanyu in this sports, but the author really researched a lot. She frequently made trivias, and often talked... more>> about the characters she wrote, she's really cute.

The story... its simple, it's mc's adventure towards claiming the Olympics gold medal. His road towards that goal have many upside down, even at the very end, bad news came, but he still accepted it comely winning the gold medal.

Then there's the extras. The extras contain different POV of characters, half of them were mc's uncle's CP. But I never expect the ending... really.... although mc's already mentioned it in the earlier chapter, I still never expect him to go to space.............

Anyway, this is a very good motivational novel, I actually felt like working hard towards exercising when I read this.

That's it, I really have anything to say. But I recommend it. I'm going to search for the author's past novels now, I really like her writing style. <<less

Skipped over to mtl cuz I can’t get enough of this novel. This feels like something written by someone who loves figure skating (and may be some kind of athlete as well?) The characters aren’t one-dimensional and I love the way Zhang Jue is building relationships and not lingering too much on his past regrets. His relationship with his family is lovely and the way he’s evolving as an athlete and a person is great to see. There are so many realities seen through the secondary characters without bogging down... more>> the story and it makes it more complete, I love it <<less

Okay so at the time of writing this review there's only 11 chapters translated so I may change it later, bit so far its really good. This novel made a non-sports fan who knows nothing about figure skating, extremely interested in the sport. I decided to look at the author's other works and it turns out that they also wrote another sports novel that I really liked called My Soulmate is a Libero. It's a volleyball novel and I'd say the only flaw in that novel was that the romance... more>> seemed a bit forced and lackluster, but it was a solid volleyball novel, 4/5 stars. Hopefully this novel doesn't face that same problem, but even if it does, I trust the sports part will still be interesting enough. <<less
