The leaves have fallen and I know spring will return again soon. Then, it will no longer be my season.

The array of the setting sun filters through the window bravely,
Rosy clouds coalesce to form an extraordinary orbit —
They say, after a person dies, their spirit would pass by,
And have a final glimpse of the world they’ve left behind…

On the 5th of March 2002, he wore a white shirt with tattered sleeves and a pair of old, ash grey trousers as he came running into my home. It was evening and rays from the setting sun filtered through the window at an oblique angle, casting dark shadows on his left cheek. He stood ferociously before my family’s dining table. My father and I were in the middle of eating when he suddenly bellowed, “Let’s get married!”

That day, he received a stern beating from my father. He didn’t retaliate and was beaten black and blue, his face all swollen.

That year, I was 21, and without any hesitation, I married him.

Because when he looked at me, nothing else mattered. It was as though he was drowning, and only I could save him.

This novel is bad, in my opinion.

First of all, the story started with a weird reason: "Because when he looked at me, nothing else mattered. It was as though he was drowning, and only I could save him." Which the reason was not found out only in the late chapters where the reason was that ML got dumped by the second FL. The ML is a highly ambitious and competitive person who married the FL just because FL's father was CEO at where he worked at too if I remember correctly. The ML was accepted by FL's father as a suitor because he has seen that ML is a hard-working person. FL's father dies shortly after brain cancer and the ML marries FL. Then starts the drama plot: ML: "I don't love you, but I will take care of you and do my job as a husba--" same meaning but different words from me (in the late chapters where he bedded her -.- they don't have children because ML's ego of how FL is a dummy and he is so perfect), etc.,

FL: who fell in love with him was sad of course but meh she got in this herself.

(Reason of why FL fell in love with him: because FL saw ML at the company when she was father's assistant, where ML elegantly (described by the author as ML being handsome/sexy/dashing/cool, ETC moment (not the same as here but basically described as prince charming in a way)) discussed in English with the foreigner and ended the project well, it got FL infatuated with him.)

Then in two years that have passed the ML was described by the author as unfaithful (unfaithful<< not framed by someone and making it as a drama plot, nope, truly committing adultery) and a hard worker CEO who earned a lot of money at the same time, which for me it's unacceptable. I really would have dropped the novel from that point but wanted to see the FL's ending.

FL: a female lead with 0 self-confidence in herself, it is said she dropped from school<< if I'm wrong

ML: just ew ego and selfish brat, everything wanting to his way not caring about other people feelings at first but changeeed later on in the story.

Moving story shortly:

The story goes on with the ML treating FL's needs and giving her a lot of money because the ML will never forget that FL was his PayPal card at first which gave him the chance to have a high standing and make a lot of money but he treats her indifferently or cold because he is disgusted that FL isn't an intelligent person by not having done school/college etc or "not on the same standing as him". The ML lives on with his adulterous life but then something shocking happens! the FL started to feel unwell for some time and realizes later on that she has brain cancer just like her father. FL tells only her only friend Xuan Bai and keeps it hidden for some time. Then FL loses consciousness at a party and then wakes up in her own bed. The ML finds out and then regrets and tries to repent by trying to mend his mistakes */* and then at the end he loves her because she loved him undyingly, then FL dies, the end, hope you didn't like it.

It does tell of how ML's "activities" made him feel empty later on but I don't care. I would've preferred for FL to divorce but nono tragedy and drama time with FL's brain cancer. I guess the point is at the end when it should have been said at the beginning of this review.

I don't call FL's ending a happy ending (even though she says it as such if I remember correctly) with her disease being used as a plot to change ML's character by evoking sympathy, pity, and then "lOVe" just because I feel uncomfortable that FL kinda accepted or got used with ML's adultery in the first place, this sinful deed has become forgotten because of the upcoming tragedy plot and then this subject coming up again>

Yes, it does tell of how ML regrets his adulterous activity and then asks FL if she believes him, the FL shooks her head meaning no *but loving you with 0% trust.

Chapter 3.1
My () ramblings ;.;
ML's sentence: I once believed that love required some form of balance. A balance of capabilities, a balance of intelligence. Because love that could not command mutual appreciation would never be able to last (yes but not mutual appreciation over something bad). Take me and Luo Qing as an example (Second FL who dumped this..) . We are all arrogance people who believe that we have the universe in our grasp. We like playing each other, and even give credit to cunning tricks we pull on each other. We make fun of the world, and are addicted to the lonely feeling of standing at the highest peak. But Si Ying, did you know? Every time I see you, I regret. I regret my s*upid persistence. I truly regret, do you believe me?

FL's sentence: I shook my head, still in his arms.

Excuses and excuses, We LiKy PlayIng EaCh OthER... even kiss in your own house and FL being a spectator unwillingly eye roll*.

The author tried to subconsciously make people accept adultery as a tiny bitsy mistake and can be forgiven so easily, this is only my opinion of what I understood in this novel. For me, it's unacceptable forever, a marriage is forever within two persons, a man, and a woman, even in a marriage of convenience.

Yup, I'm outta here. Again another FL who reaped what she sows.

P.S. There are bed scenes, only at the end is detailed, -.-.

1 star for translation, 1 star for Xuan Bai.

I don't recommend it. <<less

My sympathies with the Female Lead. Poor girl suffered a lot, she gave her heart wholly to him at the time when he got beaten for asking her hand in marriage. Her emotional range was equal to an ocean, she never thought of leaving him, partly, due to self doubt and the thought that she was unworthy, in the whole story she had praised women other than her, including the woman his husband was cheating upon her with.

'She loved a wrong man, she invested her feelings in a wrong person'

To be honest I would like to reply to two comments -

... more>> One who said that Male Lead never betrayed her -

He absolutely betrayed her, yes! He cheated on her from the very beginning, it was all a facade that he put on his face in order to acquire her wealth. He is a pathetic man with an emotional range of a tea spoon, he's disgusting.

Saw some character development -

To hell with his character development, he killed her, her sorrow took her life, she didn't cure her disease until it got worst because in midst of all this she was broken! Every sentence of her monologue was painful.

I hope he rots with that Lady he was playing around with, they both are dirtier than a sewer drainage! I wished to read his point of view but okay.

I'm actually relieved that she didn't stayed much longer with him, as far as I've correctly remembered, her marriage lasted less than 5 years right, anyway, death freed her from the pitiful life she was living, I don't want to talk anything about that bastard man's pitiful love which only blossomed when he got to know that she's dying. If you need death approaching you in order to feel someone else's love, that love is no better than a charity. Not once was I able to see and hear Male Lead's true feelings, all the bullsh*t he told her in the end of having his heart empty and all, that's not bigger than a joke. He's a bastard and will remain so.
Also, scum lead's friend said that the bit*h he was who*ring around with is the type of woman who will make a man proud if she is with him this shady bit*h man got some screw loose in his head or what?

P.S : Even though I pity the (masochistic) FL and sympathise with her as well, but I won't deny that she's the definition of s*upidity. She was very weak, I mean ya' know that you're being used but ya' still willing to tail around that man. The situation she was in, she herself was responsible for it.

Last but not least, wtf is wrong with you author? Anything in the name of lOvE? What's this sh*t love...I mean how did even the FL fell and later stayed in love with him? Tarnishing the name of love! Xia Bei is the only sensible character I found so far.

2 stars just for the angst. Don't read it if you get easily depressed. <<less

The story is written really well. It brings out the emotions of FL really well.

ML is s scum and a big one at that. I don't like his friends too except one whose surname was Du.

I saw people giving 1 star for this novel because ML and FL not being independent and so on. But this novel is kept in the tragedy section for a reason.

FL knew that ML was playing around with other women and also with ML's first love. She does nothing cuz she knows that ML doesn't... more>> like her and only married her because of her father's company. Her dad died one year in their marriage and ML became the owner of the company. He constantly told her that he doesn't love her, doesn't want her to bear his child knowing full well that she wants to become a mother. Like I said ML is a scum man.

In her pov she said that she was grateful that he took her father's company cuz she knew that her company was a source of income for thousands of people working there and she didn't want to destroy it.

At this you will hate ML even more. He kissed his first love in the presence of his wife at their own home. I wanted to kill this man at this point.

When he later knew that she was gonna die, he started treating her better. But he still is a scum.

He justified his action of playing with other women to his wife by saying something like I yearned for adrenaline rush which you couldn't provide me, when I am with those women (his first love and other women), I feel relaxed.

ML has a big hole in his brain thinking its ok doing this.

Overall I would rate this 4 out of 5 in angst. Didn't cry much at the start but a bucket during the end. <<less

Such an awful ML, I don't understand these so called selfless FLs who likes being walked over and over by their lovers but still manage to love them the same, is this even realistic? Do people have no self-respect at all? How shameless and thick skinned does she have to be to keep saying that she loves him when he is like that. Giving me heebie-jeebies.

The MC reflects on the inscription on knife at the end also, not half here a lifetime has passed but nothing changes. Her husband will experience spring again only she won't be there. When we veer off in separate ways we still have the chance to trace back to our loved ones, forget our grievance and cherrish spring again. But when we depart while holding hands, there's no spring to experience anymore with the same person. The other one can only forget as time goes by.

I don't understand why the FL is so infatuated with the ML and was willing to be treated so harshly throughout her marriage ?? I didn't even know why she is so in love with him that it was worth getting disrespected continuously by him.

While I hate the ML to the bones for treating the FL the way he did, I honestly despise the FL attitude more. He was openly cheating and continuously trampled on her and she does nothing. What did she expect ? I bet if the ML... more>> never knew she was sick, they would stay like that until she dies.

If this was about the FL getting revenge on the ML it would be a thousand times better but it's not so yeah. <<less

how to summarize this...

the story of a girl who willingly married a cheating and neglectful husband in the name of love, and then withstands endless mental suffering from her husband. The scum husband plays at being a loving husband once he knows that the wife he has always looked down on is actually dying.

It was sad but beautiful. The translator did a wonderful job translating it and I think thats what got me bawling. I saw the tags and knew what I was getting myself into but didnt know it would make me bawl my eyes out like a baby. The ML was just eh, saw some development towards the end which is good I guess. I wish we could have gotten some of his P.O.V.

But overall, its a good story and I would def come back for a read. (When I need... more>> a good cry😂) <<less

Read at your own risk. FL has a savior complex and ML is a douche bag. I'm rating this 1 for the translation, 1 for the realism (men and women truly act this way in real life) and another 1 for Xia Bei.

I really do hate tragedy. This is so painful to read. I greatly admire the FMC she's one strong woman. If this is in real life, I wish for her to live another life where she'll be genuinely love.

Though most other reader give this low rating, I personally think it is a good writing both in how it written and the plot. Plus I read this all ready with the tragedy tag and want to feel sad.

I personally don't think the female lead is s*upid. Instead I love her stubbornness. Her dedication. Her persistence.

Actually I kind of a bit hoping for her to run away and die silently. Hahaha.

As for the male lead, at first I do hate him but at the same time I like the fact that he is honest. Hate his ego too. Later somehow I accept the fact that, that is just his personality. Plus, he is not as scum as other male leads of this type of story.

Though this story only have 3 chapters, as the story progress I can see character development of the male lead. We can also slowly see the hidden part of the female lead.

As for the ending I really did cried my eyes out, but I must say this story is beautiful. Thumbs up for the author and translator that manage to still bring out the vibe of the story even in the translation version. <<less

The story was beautifully written by the author and was translated to its best form by the translator. The translator did a very well job in translating this novel. 👏🏼 The plot is a heart wrenching I started to shed some tears during Chapter 1 part 2 (just want to show you how heart wrenching it can be to me). But somehow towards the end, you will know that never once did the ML betrayed the MC. But I still hate his previous self so freaking much 😤.

knife that was given

and its significance to the story.

There was a lot of character development, albeit belated, so there was this conundrum between sincerity and pity that the MC didn't trust herself to believe. Her resignation to her illness was definitely has the poignance of someone who doesn't want to die with regrets. ML is questionable until near the end, but to be fair he really did try.

Overall a very sad but beautiful read. My sinuses hurt so much from crying. <<less

So, maybe you will like this or not... But what I can share is my afterthought of this story.

I will not even talk much about the ML, the obvious not faithful man to her wife kind. Betrayed MC big time so very shamelessly. He's not fixing his nature at all and shamelessly honest to having affair till last act. He just be nicer and caring to MC after knew the illness. IMO. That's it. Skip. Skip. Lol.

The MC is very kind. She's just simply nice. She like (maybe love) the ML wholeheartedly. She's a caring person to her only friend. She done these things selflessly. I was crying for these.

If I read tragedy, I will act as the reader from the good person pov, aka MC in this story--Just to help me going through the moments, when I want to make all the the third affair and all those not good friends of ML in the story disappeared--Because I know at the end the good person will have the nicest way out. At least psychologically.

This story was beautifully scream tragedy. So, read at your own risk. <<less

It really boils down whether or not you can accept the configuration of the character's personality. The ML is honestly egoistic, money-hungry, and arrogant while the MC is weak-willed, submissive, and simple-minded.

I personally enjoyed it a lot. It really is a beautiful story and I liked the pacing very much. I've read this a few times and I can say for sure that every scene had meaning and they were all heartbreaking in their own way. It is similar to 1n, 1d, 1y, 1l which had also incurred a lot... more>> of sadness from me haha.

There is character growth on the side of the ML. With the MC, don't expect her to change and be a strong-willed person. What is wonderful about her is that her love is steady and seemimgly unconditional. Of course, she has very low self-esteem but her strong point comes from loving people. If the guy is good at business matters, the girl is the opposite; she's the kind whose strength lies in the simple things in life like taking care of the household and being there for your lover/family/friends—with that she won't quit (even if it became toxic sadly). She has always put herself in a place of inferiority and those she loves in a high shelf that she honestly can't see her good parts (and married the horrible ML who also reinforced that type of thinking). But I loved how selfless she was especially in the end.

More details about the characters. More spoiler-y.

The ML who couldn't rationally appreciate the MC at first was still moved by her. Because in fact, she compliments him well. The parts he lacked, she had them— the simplicity, the laughter, the emotional support. In fact, I would say that the ML should have admired the MC the same way MC admired him; he was just too stuck-up on his own ideals of his world. In the end, the MC gave him refuge from a too business-minded life as she supported him quietly. There was the question if the ML loved the MC, and that is up to you to decide, but I believe the ML is not someone who would say I love you out of pity, he is too candid and brash. He even admitted at first he was not sure if it was pity or love, which means he had thought of the matter before he was sure enough to tell her. Plus his initial idea of love was too limiting or archaic, it's not as if he couldn't appreciate the MC just because she isn't good at earning money like him or lives in the same socialite world as him. He was just too arrogant, and she was too humble so there goes a healthy rel. But in the end, they mutually loved each other and that, for me, is what made it tragic and beautiful.

Ah just a tiny bit of warning: there are outdated ideas of a man and a woman and blah blah their type is blah blah. As if. Hahaha condescending but that's their worldview.

And yup, the guy was cheating (not to paint the guy as if he didn't do anything wrong) but he was not cheating out of a betrayal of their love, since there was none of that from the start. It would be so much worse, in my opinion, if they had been in love and he realized it and still chose to betray his own heart and her trust. Him cheating is a way to show the ML's worldview and highlight the MC's tragedy in the marriage. I treated it as a plot device so I'm sorry I didn't really care a lot about that since I focused on the tragedy. Decided to review it coz of the ratings.

Average story with faithless ML and no self-respect MC. The only good thing about this novel is MC's loyal friend and her husband.

MC is the only daughter of her rich father, ML married her for money but treated her like tr*sh after her father passed away. MC's friend always tried to protect MC but obviously that brain dead MC didn't take her seriously because she is "madly in love" with her cheater husband. MC gets terminally ill so ML regrets and takes care of her out of guilt although author tries to glorify it as "love". At the end MC dies in the arms of ML as she wishes. End of the story, but I feel like soon that ML will definitely find some new chick as his next adventure

A well written story, terrific translation but sh*tty ml. Pretty sure I'm not allowed to curse here but the ML is terrible.

Cried somewhere in ch1/2 which went on until the end of the story.

Honestly, I can't tell whether to pity the MC or tell her that she deserves everything (well not the illness). But I guess if you know that somewhere down the line you will get sick you will give up on living for yourself?

Thinking it though, throughout the whole story she's living like a doll, everything in her... more>> life revolves around that dude ml.

Honestly I cant see the ML turning out for the better after MC dies. Everything he did just seems to be because he felt he's sorry and that its something he owes her. As the only thing she wanted was his love. Would love to have some extras with his perspective.

At a certain point I shipped her with her best friend, she's my favourite character.

In anycase, the attitude of the ML just emphasises on the tragedy that is the MC. Its worth the read. <<less

3 star. There is already so much written about story. But one thing is must say ML is scum although in last moments of her dyeing wife he tried but it can't foreshadow his previous misdeeds. Even if you don't love your wife this is basic manner to keep your fidelity. Flirting and kissing with another women in front of your wife and name this "search of adrenaline rush". And translator thank you. You has done a good job.

I’m horrified reading this, I h8 the “devoted, selfless, doormat Chinese woman silently waiting for cheating husband to regret his infidelity and realize she’s the better than any woman he could ever be with” trope

I’m currently physically nauseous from anger so I’m going to make some dog blood revisions.

Instead of MC and ML enjoying their time together MC should’ve:

- immediately filed for divorce once she got the dx

- partnered w/ his business rival to try and take as much of his assets as she can and make it hers for the divorce proceedings, then give the $$ to her friends and donate the rest to multiple charities abroad so he can’t reach them

- w/ the leftover money she will use to make the end of her life comfortable, she will go to bars and spend $$ on drinks & hook up w/ as many handsome men as she can find

- hire people to kidnap him and take him to a remote location and tie him to a chair, make him watch MC do the deed w/ a man or multiple men

- gather as much evidence of his infidelity as she can and release it to tabloids to kill his reputation

- plant s*x workers at business dinners and pay them to take pics of him, give the censored version to the media and take testimonies of the s*x workers

- hire someone to set fire to his villa and destroy his cars

- illegally wipe out w/e money he has in his accounts and disperse them to dozens of offshore accounts w/ different passwords to make it hard for him to collect all of the money

- spend her last days in the hospital w/ her friends and a middle finger to ML

i don’t know what else to add but there ya go, a satisfying, dog blood version of the novel
