In the dog-blooded BL novel “Substitute”, the main character is so pitiful that he doesn’t realize until the last moment that he is just a tool used by his husband to protect the white moonlight in his heart.

In order to protect his beloved, the protagonist gong, who has made many enemies, chose a person to express his love and proposed to him.

In this book, the protagonist suffered a series of events such as a car accident, kidnapping, disfigurement, hospitalization and so on until he finally died at the hands of the White Lotus White Moonlight, and his fate can be described as very miserable.

What’s even more tragic is that Su Yuli transmigrated into the body of this bitter protagonist. And when he transmigrated in, he had already finished the wedding with the scum gong and the scum gong’s opponents already knew of his existence.

Su Yuli was very calm, he knew that he was already bound to the scum gong, at this time leaving would only make his death come faster.

He used his wits to cross-reference the book until his scumbag husband killed all his enemies.

Then Su Yuli packed up his bags and ran away!

Su Yuli: “The scumbag and his white moonlight are crooked. This small master also has his own happy life to live, bye-bye.”

But not a month later, the man holding the unsigned divorce papers, red-eyed cornered him: “Do you know how hard I tried to find you? You Can Run! Huh?”

It was kinda less than average in some senses but overall pretty decent

Pros:

Non-scum gong

No abuse/extreme dog blood drama

somewhat interesting plot twist

Cons:

Messy plot

Useless transmigration

Useless antagonist

Random protag buffs

IQ and EQ drops randomly sprinkled throughout the story whenever it's convenient

Spoiler

In all honesty, I kinda hated the plot twist. Am I the only one? It felt pointless for there to be TWO transmigrators. It didn't feel interesting to me, it felt like the author tried to be different and didn't want to bother with a redemption arc so they just made the ML nice to begin with. Original ML and MC would be more interesting to see since the MC would never fall for him and he'd be left behind. On top of the fact the MC would have to actually use his brain a bit more instead of ML dashing away all the problems behind the scenes and abruptly letting conflicts end.

[collapse]

I feel like the novel had potential but the author never committed to anything and kinda left everything half-baked.
Spoiler

For example, At the beginning there were almost signs that the ML was reborn alongside the MC. That would have been interesting double reincarnation which only the ML remembers their past life perhaps? The foreshadowing didn't really match the plot twist. Were led to assume that they transmigrated so they could fall in love, but the universe can have them meet in a easier way. What was the point of them transmigrating only to leave the world and have such a useless segway into a relationship? None. Felt like a last minute ending

I almost want to mark this as DNF, because I really checked out for the latter half. But it's so short that I just wanted to finish it. I kind of felt like the author got tired of their own story. The MC started off engaging and colorful, I was excited to spend time in his shoes. The ML was harmless but bleh. Then all that depth just seemed to fade away and it became boring.

A very fresh take on the transmigration plot line! It's a pretty quick read, and the plot is quite straightforward once the main plot twists are out of the way. Nothing transformational happens, and the characters are quite predictable, but it's still enjoyable. The main couple have a good relationship with each other (despite the fact that they're hiding things from each other) and the overall relationship development is quite smooth.

I really don't have too much to say about this novel haha! It's fully translated which is a huge plus,... more>> and I read it all in a single sitting. Some nice brainless entertainment, if you need a break from dog blood! One thing that does bother me about the plot though is
Spoiler

how MC believed ML truly loved him and wasn't treating him as a substitute at first, but then quickly changed his mind and got angry at ML once he saw the slightest hint that ML was into his white moonlight again. Can't really trust that the relationship was really built on a solid foundation if MC is so quick to change his opinion on ML.

I just find the MC's distrust in ML to only be there to cause drama at the end, as both MC and ML had trusted each other without reservation before the last few chapters, and now suddenly MC catches ML in a bad position and he's lost all that previous unconditional trust. The character consistency just isn't there!

Had there been moments in the novel where MC wasn't sure about ML's intentions throughout the novel, it would have been more believable that he would take ML's words at face value, but honestly my interpretation of his character up until that point was that he would at least doubt ML was being serious about the whole substitute business when he caught ML talking to his white moonlight behind the scenes.

The insecurity in the relationship just didn't have any build up, so I didn't feel like it was as impactful of a blow to their otherwise perfect relationship. And since this was really the climax of the story, I just can't rate too high unfortunately.

It's a bit dull... I don't know how to put it but it went from smart, capable and interesting manly MC, to an embarrassingly quick one sided love, to an interesting but short lived 2ch originalish plot.

I had very high hopes so it maybe why I found it a bit lacking but over all it's a nice short story if you don't have anything else to read

I dare say this is underrated. While I can't say it brought anything particularly new, I found the characters refreshing to read. My biggest qualm is that don't really know what happens to the side couple/characters by the end of the story. However, overall it was very entertaining and never seemed too fast despite being a short novel.

This wasn't a bad novel, I enjoyed it. I mostly liked the side characters though XD

Spoiler

my favorites were Mu Lang, Ding Yuan, and Yang Shuo. At the beginning I didn't like Mu Lang that much, but after seeing him a few times I just started to like him. I was really scared that the author was going to get rid of him, but they didn't! Which I'm glad for!

The plot is really average, but I liked the characters very much. The main couple is cute and fluffy. It would've been even better if the plot didn't move so fast, and author added a little more explanations for everything.

Sweet cute story about the protagonist transmigrating to a BE-novel, ... more>>

either unaware that the other is a transmigrator too...

MC and ML fall in love pretty early on, and it's a fluff journey with good communication and trust on each other... Except story writing got a bit messy towards the end and some forced plot... otherwise a sweet story!

Spoiler

There's uncertainty about the original owners of the bodies MC and ML transmigrated into - a follow-up extra rounding up their story would have been nice, whether the original Wei Jin forgave Lin or they separated... Mu Lang's ending (redemption?) was on point - he realized what he lost, in his quest for revenge, would be lost forever...

I was a little bored since the main twists were already revealed in the beginning itself, but I still kept reading on.

And Im glad to say, it was not bad idea.

A very sweet and fluffy story - with a cute MC (kinda felt like high schooler got married- but u'll get used to it), caring ML and the side characters (MC's friends) too were heartwarming.

The last part of guessing ML's real identity was fun!

So many s*upid negative reviews. They say it is plotless and illogical, yet they admit they could not stop reading... what nonsense is this?! The ones with the low IQ are the ones who love criticising without explaining. Having opinions does not make one intelligent tsk tsk... The plot is indeed simple but not illogical. The characters are also coherent and well-rounded and I love the interactions of MC with his lover, his friends and his elders. The protags are well portrayed and relatable, even the villains are given due... more>> time and POV, to the point that I did feel pity for them, esp MuLang and LuoXing. The pace, interactions, dialogues, romance... everything flows very well, without inconsistencies or incoherence. The only thing that bothered me was the little bit of angst towards the end, which I felt could have been avoided if MC did not overeact. But again, it is within expectations that he would react that way, being the impulsive 20yr old that he is. And also I wished there were more extras about them in their real world. Overall, a good light read, short and sweet.... nothing pretentious, like some negative readers here. <<less

An interesting take on the transmigrated into a book theme, in this case both the MC and ML transmigrated and ended up together. I was queasy for the first half of the book because I didn't know how they're going to address the transmigrating thing... thought there'd be a lot more misunderstanding in the novel, but nah. The problem is left aside, you get to enjoy sweet love full of trust. The antagonists pops up now and then to get their face slapped, also the side ship (yang x ding)... more>> are cute -- mu x ding are ex's and I kinda ship them ? but it won't sail anymore lol.. <<less

Not so many s*upid tug-o-war moments. Very refreshing, a good kind of predictable. Not gonna lie the end part made me burst some tears but all is well and necessary to end the story.

ML is all about efficiency, and I like his talent is not just described on surface a.k.a plot armor, he actually IS matured and rational.

On another note MC is the sunshine of the couple as he attract and gain friends/ally here and there.

A very sweet story that heals a heart.

plot & writing: just slightly above average but very interesting, nonetheless. It’s also very refreshing. I was quite intrigued with this twist! Despite it being quite different, it wasn’t written badly at all. Usually, writing something different is a gamble but this one was pretty good. Although I do have a problem with the reveal happening more near the end and the lack of extras showing mc’s life in the real world.

about the twist

it’s a case of two transmigrators. The MC and ML both belong to the same original world.

[collapse]

romance: I love it. It’s sweet and very healthy. MC and ML trust each other so much. Their relationship was so refreshing. I was surprised to see that they even team up to humiliate people trying to get in between them.

characters: they’re all lovable. I love the second cp so much. Although I was annoyed at mu lang, I wish we saw more of his character development and him reconciling somehow with ML before anything else! I loved him after he came to his senses and how he didn’t interfere with his ex.

this was surprisingly a good read. The bad reviews scared me a bit but after reading, they seem quite senseless. I can agree with those calling this average but having to lower your IQ to read this? You have to be a little s*upid to think that way. Although the story is missing some closure and slight worldbuilding (the original world), it’s not really senseless and the plotholes aren’t bad enough that you wouldn’t understand what’s happening. The plot is as simple as

Spoiler

two transmigrators falling in love and returning to their original world

they wrapped up the plot and left. That’s it. Where is it difficult to understand? Anyway, I enjoyed this! <<less

It’s not bad, but for me maybe max 3.5 or 4 stars. The story plot itself can be more interesting but towards the end the story got abit strange. Lol I don’t have a articulate words for it. The drama is light, the romance is gradual. Ah maybe the sense of closure is not there, that’s why am a bit unsatisfactory. What happened to the people in the book or why transmigrated, it’s a open discussion. Anyway if bored and nothing to read give it a go. Thank you

A lot of things don't make sense, and make even less sense as you read throughout the book. Plot is lacking, logic is lacking, and IQ needs to be dropped while reading this. The summary doesn't really come true until very late in the book, so don't expect it to be a very pivotal point. Now saying that, I couldn't put this book down and needed to finish it—so that counts for something right? Therefore, three stars. It's really an OK read, nothing spectacular or worthwhile about it.

PS. Translator did... more>> a good job! <<less

Pretty average, a short read that is pretty satisfying. I'm glad that both of them are transmigrators and are able to reunite in their own world. But would love to see more of Xiao Yuan's new love, and Mu Lang's as well, as extras probably. Would be better if there's an alternate story to wrap up the original gong and original shou in the book, but I guess stories are just stories and the shou is meant to pass and the gong is meant to regret.

Very cute, not too much drama. Not a deep story but fluffy like cotton candy.

The ending felt a bit rushed and there were some plot points/characters that were forgotten about. Some extra chapters would have cleared all this up beautifully but I got the feeling the author was just done with this story.

the synopsis of him running away really only applies to like 2 chapters at the end lol. It was cute how the meet in the real world and didn't have to wait until the died in the book world to do so but I can't help but feel bad for the friends and family in the book world

Novel with light themes that don't have a lot of suspense and brains for emotion. MC and ML's relationship development is very cliché, and fast, I quite enjoyed it while reading. Kinda wanna read MC beat the villain, it is deeply regretted bcs MC so good at self-defense. And I need an extra chapter. It's good for my stress relief.
