As the apocalypse arrives, Song Ke, who grew up in the abandoned area, unexpectedly awakens her special ability. Within her field of vision, all objects can be transformed into handy spiritual tools with just a thought. She becomes the sharpest blade, now possessing the most flexible scabbard. Wherever she goes, zombies of all kinds cower in fear.

After wandering alone for several days, Song Ke encounters a troublesome man. The man has a broken leg, and speaks weakly as if on the verge of death, yet there’s a smile at the corner of his mouth that is strangely beguiling.

“Little girl, I have nothing to offer you in return. How about offering myself to you?”

Suspiciously eyeing him for a couple of seconds, Song Ke slowly summons her spiritual tool.

“Speak up, how do you want to… die?”

One thing leads to another, and her adventurous path… takes a peculiar turn? She ends up gathering a series of strange teammates.

A year after the apocalypse, a bizarre rumor circulates among the major surviving bases:

It’s said that the top-ranked awakener team “V587” on the scoreboard are all burly and sturdy, capable of frightening children with their bear-like physiques and iron-like strength.

Their name alone exudes power: V587, how commanding and domineering!

V587 punches the Zombie King, kicks mutant beasts, robs the Death Prison of Sin City, and KOs the tyrannical rulers of District C with one move!

No matter how difficult the mission, it’s flawlessly cleared when it falls into their hands.

Their feats become the talk of the Alliance, earning admiration from countless ability users.

Until the grand opening of the inaugural global awakeners challenge, the enigmatic V587 members gather, making their first appearance.

The crowd’s faces turn dumbfounded, “Wait, who are these elderly, young, sick, and two wheelchair-bound cripples? V587? Nooo!”

Overpowered Stutterer x Cunning Smiling Tiger

【Reading Guide】

This is not a space-oriented story. It’s set in an alternative future with a significant technological gap (about 50 years ahead) and uses fictional terms with no direct prototypes.

Combines superpowers with cyberpunk elements, featuring a main storyline alongside team adventures.

Team recruitment is relatively slow at the beginning. The protagonist’s team consists of 7 members, each with their own flaws.

If I could give more than 5 stars, I would.

Absolutely brilliant, tightly plotted, and the translation is a joy to read. Doomsday story set in the technological future, with awakened powers, found family, and characters you can root for.

I loved how the author painstakingly left clues throughout the story and then neatly tied it all up by the end. There are no scenes that feel superfluous or unnecessary. Great control of the narrative, and fantastic to read.

I'm going to miss V587!

No idea why this has such a low rating, because it definitely deserves a much higher score! The world building is done really well, with the novel years into the future in a world that is split into districts A to F, Districts A-B being the wealthiest and District F being the poorest. As we continue to read, the author gradually provides insight into the different districts and the numerous cities making up each district, including what they are known for and how they operate.

Song Ke, our female MC, is... more>> a combat-oriented character. She is a rather simple girl, but she more than makes up for it with her strength and brilliant intuition for battle, her leadership skills, and her capacity for kindness and empathy. She definitely isn't the type of MC to become a damsel in distress whenever the ML enters the picture; in fact, she's often the one who gives him a hand when things get physical! Which, can I say, is such a breath of fresh air; finally, we get an actual strong female protag!

Spoilers for the ML:

Spoiler

The ML is Zhang Qingyan, the "researcher" whom Song Ke meets in the Hua City arc.

[collapse]

Song Ke begins her journey as she leaves District F, from which she hails, after the apocalypse strikes. Along the way, she assembles a seven-person team, each member with their own fleshed-out personalities and backstories, forming a close-knit group. I really like each member!

Spoilers up until chapter 110 for the team members, including our MC:

Spoiler
  1. Song Ke, our MC and leader of the team. She may not be the smartest amongst the seven, but she is certainly the heart of the team and the glue which binds them together. Hailing from District F177, she begins her journey in the days after the apocalypse. She is an S-rank offensive type ability user, which allows her to create weapons out of different objects.
  2. Zhang Qingyan, the second person Song Ke recruits, who first appears in Hua City. The brain to Song Ke's brawn, he is the chief strategist of the team; his skills lie in his intelligence and ability to read and manipulate people, hiding his thoughts behind a smile. He is also disabled, his crippled leg forcing him to be confined to a wheelchair for most of the story (at least up to chapter 110). An ordinary person, or so he claims.
  3. Xu Xing, the third person Song Ke recruits. A precocious ten year-old boy hailing from District F177, he is an B-rank ice-type ability user. He likes to act like a good child in front of Song Ke, but in reality he's more of a rambunctious kid with a slight ruthless streak.
  4. Lin Youyou and Su Cha, the fourth and fifth people Song Ke recruits. Lin Youyou is a popular idol in Ferrera City, where she first appears. Contrary to her idol image, she has a temperamental personality. She is an A-rank support type ability user.
  5. Su Cha, who hails from the rainforest district. He is Lin Youyou's loyal bodyguard, and an A-rank offensive type ability user.
  6. Fang Zhixu, the sixth person Song Ke recruits. Formerly a renowned doctor, he first appears in Tongwan City. He is an A-rank healer type ability user. He also likes to sleep a lot.
  7. Lu Xiaoyu, the seventh member of the team and disgraced member of the prestigious Lu family. He first appears in District F180, Sin City, and was previously the head warden of the city's Death Prison. He is an A-rank hacker type ability user.

The translation is also excellent, with incredible update speed and quality, so I really reccommend this novel! For now, it's definitely 5 stars from me! <<less

*EXCEPTIONAL 5 STARS*

Give me a crew like from One Piece, a post-apocalyptic x cyberpunk environment with Resident Evil x Blade Runner ambience, and top it off with well-loved cliches of CNovels and even Daoist sect elements... This is what DOOMSDAY SPIRITUAL ARTIFACT MASTER has to offer. Above it all, are characters who are written with heart and grit. Truly a Cnovel like no other.

(Granted, I don't really read post-apocalyptic web novels so take my words with a grain of salt and read for yourself!)

... more>> TRANSLATION

I can't begin to fathom how to translate sci-fi elements so smoothly the way our translator Aris (from MoonlightNovel) did. While there were tiny typos here and there (like wrong pronouns), the overall reading experience was like reading an originally English-written novel. Honestly, among Young Adult dystopians out there (Hunger Games, Divergent, you know the gist), this Chinese novel can hold its own. If I was an editor, the biggest comment I have about the storyline is fleshing out the ending plot elements. Otherwise, this novel would do amazing as a manhua or donghua.

FOUND FAMILY CREW

I'll address the elements from the blurb first. V587 - a crew name that was randomly chosen, are all you would want from a found family. If you like Luffy's crew from One Piece, then V587 will call to you. Each person has a prominent backstory that gets explored, their own motivations for joining the crew, and each one has unique abilities that add to V587's strength.

  1. Our badass captain, Song Ke:
    1. Mommy? sorry, mommy?... I know there are reviews that complain about our FL's s*upidity, but truly she's just a little slow and her slowness doesn't detract from the plot at all. Just like how Luffy and other shounen heros are known for being idiotic but heroic, exceptionally strong, and low-key, Song Ke is the same. She's tough and virtuous, going after her beliefs and not backing down against the oppressive status quo. And just like in One Piece, Song Ke and her crew are traveling through each island district to strike down tyrants and bring freedom to the people.
  2. Our green tea ML, Zhuang Qingyan:
    1. He's a genius but manipulative. While CNovel cliches do pop up with his characterization (being emotionless, ruthless, diagnosed as a psychopath but also being exceptionally intelligent), his character was still unique. He comes off as unassuming, being in a wheel chair for most of the story, but is actually the brains behind the operation. Low key giving Professor X in some scenes, lol.
  3. The kid mascot, Xu Xing:
    1. We have another manipulative crew member but this time he's a kid. I honestly loved his antics and how he can put up a cute act against potential enemies.
  4. Famous celebrity singer, Lin Youyou:
    1. She has a support role as a singer who buffs/debuffs, but I honestly enjoyed her and Su Cha's side romance + plot. Giving big sister vibes, honestly a mix of Robin + Nami lol.
  5. Rainforest assassin, Su Cha:
    1. He and Youyou are a pair, as he's her bodyguard. He's taciturn and expressionless, but fiercely loyal. The scenes of him working out during off-mission days gives me Zoro vibes.
  6. Reknown doctor and healer, Fang Zhixu:
    1. Of course we need a healer in the team! His backstory and side plot was very touching too - the "Rose" arc was the most heartfelt one for me. He's an older man so maybe a Jinbei-like character with Chopper's medical skills.
  7. Hacker and engineer, Lu Xiaoyu:
    1. In a post-apocalytic world with AI, of course we need a hacker. He also has a mysterious and interesting background, and I loved his banter with our ML. It's funny how the author made him look like Gojo too (silver hair, ice-blue eyes) bahaha.
Their team dynamics are A++ and I love how they start from the bottom and work their way up, from underdogs/seemingly "weaklings" to an OP team that operates smoothly and efficiently. I know I keep comparing them to other fictional characters, but trust. Their characterizations really stand on their own and I hope you get to read for yourself how well their personalities just pop out of the pages.

SUBTLE ROMANCE

I'm a BG romantic girlie at heart, so of course I picked this up because of the romantic potential. I'm telling you, it's subtly sweet and perfectly balanced with the action. Our main couple develops from reluctant team members to a dynamic S-rank duo that no one can stop. I would say the romance is, hmm, maybe 5% of the story? But a tender, lovely 5% that is ultimately satisfying at the end. There's something about saving the world with a side of romance that's just *chef's kiss*, and I think the author handled it wonderfully. I also love how the story comes back full circle with how the main leads' history panned out. Oh! Speaking of history, there is a reason why Song Ke is a little slow... of course, you'll have to read to find out. But everything makes sense in the end, trust.

Big brain, psychopathic ML x super strong and cute FL who is his balm and salvation.

IMPECCABLE WORLD-BUILDING

I'm honestly really impressed with the world and side characters that the author writes. While some readers may see it as juvenile, I think it fits as a shounen, young adult story. Sooo while this ain't no Frank Herbert (Dune author), I would say it's a close call to Brandon Sanderson (Mistborn) or Orson Scott Card (Ender's Game). Except younger. And with CNovel elements + tropes, ofc.

The author balances the sci-fi topics well, including but not limited to: social hierarchy and disparity, gene research/mutation, radiation and zombie manifestations, special powers from radiation, AI and data struggles, and more. The social disparities are Hunger Game-esque (different districts with different resources and access to those resources) while the special powers are definitely shounen style (think: One Punch Man powers and the like). I know I keep comparing the characters' adventure to One Piece, but it's basically fighting against the oppressive powers who hold all the resources. And honestly, you can't go wrong with that kind of storyline.

WRITING WITH HEART

Based on the excellent translations, I would say the writing was also a delight. I love how the author included elements and stories of each team member, as well as recurring characters that added to the overall atmosphere. While the ending was a little rushed (basically one of the major battles is fade-to-black), I didn't hate it. The story was long enough and readers already know the outcome - the journey there was more improtant. And best of all, the actual end was satisfying and conclusive. Instead of going on and on (like One Piece lol), the author knew when to wrap things up with a tidy bow.

Furthermore, the scene transitions made so much sense and honestly gave the whole story a movie-like feel. The way the author presented the mysteries and having the readers figure out everything was exhilarating and smooth. I think it takes not just a creative writer, but also a smart one, to execute such great plot twists and characterizations.

OVERALL

I picked this story up on a whim but it ended up being SO addicting. The beginning starts off a little slow (especially when you're waiting for the events in the blurb to happen), but trust me, it's worth the wait. Song Ke and her crew's adventures are truly unforgettable, and I'll be thinking of this sci-fi world for a while.

TL;DR You'll enjoy this if you're a fan of:

  • Shounen manga/anime with action-packed scenes and a touch of comedy
  • Overpowered main characters who start from the bottom and fight their way up
  • Rebelling against the status quo and picking up teammates along the way
  • Sci-fi elements that blend post-apocalyptic zombies with cunning AI
  • Subtle romance side plots
  • And a happily ever after!

Love it! I was hesitant to read this at first because of the summary, I thought it was a typical zombie apocalypse novel, but it was most definitely not. It was almost everything that I'm looking for.

You most definitely can distinguish the main character but at the same time still give attention to the side characters, definitely the novel where you can feel that the characters are alive and have their own personalities, it feels like the story was written according to the will of the characters and not because... more>> the author dictated to move the way he/she want's to.

I'm highly recommending this as a novel worth the read, MTL is readable so you won't have any issues understanding the flow of the story. <<less

The FL definitely isn't the brightest bulb in the chandelier, but unlike another reviewer's criticism of it, I don't think it's a bad thing.

having self-regeneration as her second ability

[collapse]
, like... what's the point of a team? She wouldn't need one, it'd just be a one woman show.

Instead, she's somewhat dull-witted for a lot of the book. A combat genius, but also a stuttering social trainwreck with almost no tact, no strategy, and an exceptionally ignorant understanding of the world she lives in (which makes sense; she grew up in the slums and the gap in knowledge/access is exploited by the Better districts). And that makes her better, because a perfect character is perfectly boring.

The crux of most of the problems in this novel is the dystopian central government oppressing the people, who are divided into individual, graded districts. ab*se of power, pretty common theme for dystopian/cyberpunk lit. Given all of that, it's a lot more fitting to have team battles and large-scale rebellions/counterattacks if you want a 'good end', vs. unparalleled solo genius with a hidden backstory BTFOs the world's injustices singlehanded.

Genre-wise, instead of what's expected for solely normal/superpowered 'zombie apocalypse', this feels like a cross between cyberpunk, zombie apocalypse, and gaming/e-sports. I note the latter because it's the most common genre here I can think of that has such a focus on teams and where everyone also plays a semi-unique role/makes up for others' flaws/non-specialties. <<less

From start to finish, I was utterly engrossed in this novel. It's been a while since I've encountered a CN novel this thrilling, and it quickly secured a spot among my all-time favorites. The translation adds another layer of depth, immersing you completely in its world.

The world-building is simply astounding. While some familiar tropes were present, they were handled with such finesse that they felt fresh and engaging. The action scenes are expertly crafted, keeping you on the edge of your seat throughout the novel. The constant presence of death,... more>> even among beloved characters, adds a poignant layer to the narrative. I also appreciate how each storyline and character we encounter is meticulously woven together, leaving no loose ends. The first arc, admittedly, felt somewhat amateurish due to the high school drama, but the story gains momentum and intensity as it progresses. Song Ke's evolution from a socially awkward loner to a formidable leader is particularly satisfying to witness. Though initially portrayed as somewhat 'dumb, ' her growth is evident as the novel unfolds. Initially, that was my qualm about the FL, however, I agree with the sentiment of another reviewer, while I typically prefer intelligent characters, this portrayal aligns better with this particular narrative.

The dynamic between the female lead's brute strength and the male lead's strategic brilliance brings a refreshing aspect to the story. The relationship and comedic interactions between the team members were entertaining. The book is also rich with concepts and lessons that we encounter in real life. And every character feels incredibly authentic. Despite their losses and scars, they persevere, finding moments of happiness and renewed purpose along the way.

I really enjoyed the story. At first, I was on the verge of dropping it because emotionally weak female leads are not my cup of tea but I persevered and I’m glad I did.
Spoiler

Female lead is not totally emotionally weak, there’s just something wrong with her “development” that’s why she struggles understanding emotions and people. And she’ll get better as the story progresses.

the translation is amazing! I can feel the goosebumps from reading the beginning of the apocalypse, the author described each composition down to the atmosphere perfectly. the characters are also realistic and have their own thinking even down to the side characters that we only see for a few chapters.

  • Song Ke

Spoiler

you'd think in the beginning that MC is the usual ditzy but weirdly strong MC, and indeed she is. but after you found out about her backstory and her true origin, I think you'd think it'd make sense of why she sometimes behaved like a newborn human with how naive she is *wink wink*. I do think the 'transformation' MC went through after 'dying' is kind of... off-putting though. this is personally because I don't like the amnesia trope so much. but at least it didn't last for a long while.

[collapse]

  • Zhuang Qingyan
Spoiler

quite an interesting character. his psychopathy is confirmed in the novel and he received treatment to withhold his violent tendencies as well. his romance with Song Ke IMO is so-so, the usual 'villain-like heartless guy finally meets his medicine person who can calm him down' kind of trope. but his backstory in turn is very rich and well-written so I can forgive the lack of fresh romance.

[collapse]

  • other V587 team members
Spoiler

i love how the author gave highlight to each member! so even if they didn't have much scenes in the latter part, they still 'exists' and you can discern the good relationship between teammates just by a few sentences in passing. their early acquaintances are not always off to a good start, but that's how friendship normally is, you can find a comrade even in someone who you didn't think would keep company of you. and it's beautiful.

[collapse]

the zombie origin and world-building are intriguing. I really think this should at least have like 500 chapters for the author to explain every nook of the novel clearly, but we'll have to do with just this much. you can literally write a fanfic based on the world-building LOL.

all in all a good read and reread-able as well (i don't really like the Hua City arc though, too much dogblooded when it's literally filled with high school students, but oh well) <<less

Dropped. Translations great, but yea I think if you've never read a strong female lead book before you might actually think this is really good. But this has a lot of plot holes and I don't even really know if she has a real personality. But of course I dropped it so maybe she develops one again later on so do as you will.

Essentially it's a juvenile action book. I would say all the chapters leading up until after she has to leave her city are well written and compelling.... more>> However, after that, it just reads like a very juvenile like I'm a badass bit*h book. You can definitely see where the writing tries to set her up to look badass or fight really well or etc so someone can compliment her or think she's amazing or be jealous of her. Like it's very obvious. And it happens a couple of times. It's fine the first times but if it like looks too obvious to me then I realize it's just a writing skill issue. Genuinely if you've ever read any book that has a real badass female lead, it will be better than this one. But it's hard to say I'm sure maybe the plot is more interesting later on maybe. But I think the writing is pretty sloppy and there's a lot of flaws in my opinion and the choices of plot focus can be kind of boring and unnecessary. I think sometimes a plot focuses on certain things just so she can look badass which is too obvious again and also not a real plot.

I could go nitty-gritty on what I think doesn't make sense about certain things she does within these 18 chapters alone after she loses her personality after leaving her city. But I'm not going to do that because it would take too much time.

I think the biggest thing is that she is written as a dumb character, the author explicitly writes that she is. So if you don't like dumb female leads, which I hate them I don't care how strong you are If you're not smart it really irks me, then I don't recommend. That's just another stereotype: s*upid female leads, which I disdain.. And I think that's why a lot of her actions don't make sense is probably because she's supposed to be s*upid. Don't hate me for saying that... like the male lead even says that she doesn't use her brain that much at some point. <<less

I don't typically enjoy this genre of CN novel, but I'm really enjoying this novel so far. The writing and setting in the opening chapters is immersive and high quality (great translation!) There is also quality world building and puts effort into crafting a "modern world" without the typically "we went to XYZ city and it was empty, found zombies, found bigger zombie, left." the author puts effort into giving the protagonists a reason for why they are going somewhere or doing something, and the plot progresses well with minimal... more>> plot holes.

As for the main character, her personality can come off as a bit dull in the opening chapters if what you are expecting is a "bad ass FL" who is merciless, strong, and charismatic. While the main character here is definitely strong, its much better than most books of the genre where the FL is just a sociopath, which is made okay because apparently everyone else is too! Characters have bit more depth (although some more than others) and have complex motives of their own. If you stopped reading before chapter 40 or so I can see how you would think that other female characters do the typical thing where they either blindly love or hate the FL, but after this point there are great female and male characters who are introduced which, again, have motives and thoughts of their own.

Overall, the main character here is strong, but not OP, and her character is somewhat dull initially, but the side characters more than make up for this. The setting is very interesting for the zombie CN novel genre, and the plot is well thought-out. I highly recommend this one, even if you generally don't enjoy this genre of novel very much. <<less

Very good read, a solid and unique plot. the start is a bit slow but it picks up after the outbreak happens. The world is set in the distant future where Asia was split into districts and separated by a caste system. Higher grade districts have more access to resources and information while lower grade districts could only get the leftovers. Humans were cruel long before the apocalypse started. Kinda gives me hunger games vibe. There are r*pe and torture in this novel, wasn't mentioned in detail but still very... more>> unsettling, so fair warning. There are humourous parts, and there are serious parts which makes it very balanced.

The zombie outbreak happened due to radiation rather than a virus like other novels. Long before the outbreak happened, the world already have power users but their existence were only known in higher level districts like in district B and A and maybe district C.

The MC Song Ke is very likable, her personality is what I would call cute and funny. Even as a reader, I couldn't help but want to pinch her cheeks and rub her head. She's may seem s*upid, but that's only due to lack of education since she grew up in district F. Although her grandpa sent her to school, she dropped out shortly after his death due to severe bullying. It's a shame that she lost her stutter, that was part of her charm.

The other members of V587 also have their own characteristics that complements each other. The members have their own tragic past but I feel that Fang Zhixu, the MC Song Ke, Lu Xiaoyu and the ML Zhuang Qingyan had the most tragic past. Few people like me may not like the ML very much, I get it, cunning, arrogant, indifferent leads are not very likable for me, but at least as far as I know he never manipulated the MC... or maybe because the MC was too s*upid to be manipulated 🤣

The zombies weren't really the biggest problem of this novel world, but the cruel elitists are, and the huge amount of S level super powers working for them. Too bad the end was rushed and did not fully show their endings in details. I really hate how self righteous, arrogant, and cruel they are. If only their endings were written in more detail. <<less

I wouldn't have ever thought I'll get to read a novel with a FMC that is a mix between One piece and Hunger Games on here. It has a nakama, it has districts and it has destroying corrupt governments. It has everything.

It was just so good. The world building, the relationships, the found family trope (honestly the best trope there is) , the adventures, etc. Makes it one of the top three novels I have read this year.

Song Ke, our MC reminds me so much of Luffy. Her goodness, her... more>> strength, her goofiness etc. She is capable of so much and she went from nothing to being the strongest. Some people in the comments of the novel were like she is so s*upid, like she has never seen the world. She may be a little silly but she has never put anyone in danger because of it. So what is the problem? Her character makes the novel more fun to read. Forever a Song Ke defender.

ML is very clever and the slow burn between them is actually done so well.

All the characters in this novel is fleshed out with their own stories and goals. This breathes life into the novel, making it more real. I love this part of the novel so much.

Never once did I feel bored when I read this novel. The pacing was simply brilliant.

There are a few things I'm curious about:
Spoiler

what happened to the snake kid from Sin City, didn't hear about him after. Was the master of the MC properly avenged?

I love a good romance story. But you know what I love the most? It's the story of revolutionary friendship. A story of bond created by life and death, meeting with friends who you can trust your life with. This is amazing. The characters, the plot, and the world background are all amazing.

Every character has their own unique character design and background. Even if they are just minor characters, you can set them apart from the others. We can see that the author really planned it thoroughly. Of course, the... more>> main characters, the V587, are exceptionally well-designed. I love their antics, their flaws, and their growth.

The plot was excellent as well. The author made used of foreshadowing quite well, at the same time, there's still a sense of mystery retained. It was also diverse. From social status, political struggles, injustices in our society, human nature, etc. It was tackled one by one. The plot wasn't just meant to be enjoyed but also to be realized. It's more than meets the eye.

The world background was kinda confusing at first, but it was very unique on it's own.
Spoiler

It's like a combination of interstellar (due to starships and other very advanced technology) and ancient times (due to martial arts, hand seals, cultivation, divine beasts like phoenix, etc). Such complicated and unique world background resulted to creating such wonderful characters with different personalities. Kudos to the author.

As for the romance, the love between the ML and FL was gradual.
Spoiler

It didn't even started with trust, let alone love at first sight. It was like a boiling water, it's gradual but passionate (at least the ML is a passionate and clingy green tea lol). I love how I, as the reader, is aware who's the ship, but at the same time, without realizing it, the friendship and trust formed into love. How it started, no one knows. There's no sudden realization that happened. It's like, it's very natural and smooth.

As for the other team members, well, there was a comment here with quite detailed review about each of them (very helpful). Anyway, I kinda agree to that commentor.

Lastly, if there's something I'm disappointed with,
Spoiler

that's the ending. I thought there's another arc about them bringing down Utopia but no, it was just skimmed over and the author just made a time skip. Kinda dissatisfied with that, honestly. And also, I'm very dissatisfied that there's not a lot of extra chapters!!!! No! Author, how could you (as in nin, I still respect you a lot~~) cut our sources of happiness with just one side story? Do you think it's enough?! It's not! Huhuhuhu I want more ╥﹏╥

[collapse]

Overall, it was definitely a 10/10! I hate how I dwaddle before when I saw this as I thought it's just another apocalyptic story with an OP FL. Lemme tell you, it's not your typical apocalyptic story⊙v⊙. <<less

Well-plotted and has a pretty good story arc. I found all the characters interesting and that the FL and ML break the usual stereotypes. The FL is the one who is physically strong, and the ML will outright say he's hanging onto her and needs her to protect him.

The FL is very capable, a genius at martial arts and has the sort of perseverance and survival instincts that means she pushes through even when things are going tough. She really doesn't give up and she keeps her promises. I also... more>> really liked some of the side characters, and they definitely make for unexpected teammates during an apocalypse.

Some people don't like female leads who are not very smart, but imo, that's a subjective personal taste and isn't a marker of whether the novel is good or bad. If you prefer smart and cunning FLs, I would say this novel definitely isn't for you. But if you like action-packed apocalyptical novels with superpowers, then this novel might be for you after all. <<less

During doomsday, humans hold great capacity for avarice, but also great capacity for altruism. This novel portrays both characteristics.

With a unique setting and a well-built world, featuring different "tiers" of cities, the past of the main character, Song Ke, is slowly uncovered as she defeats zombies and gathers teammates. Song Ke is undoubtedly a likeable character, and so are the others in V587. Each person in V587 is different, with their own quirks and flaws. No one is perfect, but they are all trying their best.

I rather like the portrayal... more>> of the male lead. For one, his banter with Lu Xingyi made him much more human, rather than just a stereotypical ice cube ML.

This story is not without humorous moments, as well. Despite the fact that the novel is set in doomsday, the members of V587 maintain an optimistic outlook, grasping onto hope and striving through adversity.

Song Ke is ridiculously overpowered, but that does not negate the moments of solidarity when her teammates come to her rescue even when they have a chance to escape from the dangerous situation.

Even the side characters are portrayed well, making me interested in reading more about them - Yin Xiao, Jennifer, Irene, Jiang Rui, Zhang Ci, Dylan, among others... these characters, despite limited screen time, are not papier-mâché figures, and serve to enrichen the world the author has crafted.

The pacing was also done well. Each arc did not take an overly long time, and all the plot points worked toward the final reveal, which clarified one of my main questions while reading. If there was one plot hole that was not really explained, it would be why Dr. Fang is not attacked by zombies, but that's a minor detail.

Overall, Doomsday Spiritual Artifact Master was amazing. I came for the concept of creating weapons, but stayed for the characters and plot, as well as the emotional moments and the displays of humanity's kindness. I would definitely recommend it to others and read it again. <<less

I'm now in my phase of reading CN Novels in the Zombie Apocalypse genre so I can say I've read a few of them. This is one of the few with great translations and great story to be honest. I'm enjoying it right now and actually excited to finish it. If you like this genre, give this one a try. The characters are fun to read and the worldbuilding is good.

Pretty interesting. Mediocre world building, so far.

Characters - it kinda breaks the superhero stereotype, where the hero's only personality trait is their power, since these characters have goals, motivations and characteristics. Strong female lead, and no american stereotypes, or typical "character arcs". Plot - its slow, but I think its the perfect pace for this story, since it gives time and peace in between the chaos.

This novel deserves far beyond a 5-star rating—it’s absolutely AMAZING! I can't get enough of this story and only wish it had more chapters T^T.

Spoiler

Let’s start with our dear Song Ke. She’s undoubtedly the heart of the team; without her, there wouldn't be V587. She's such a lovable protagonist, slightly ditzy for certain reasons, but the team believes that as long as she’s around, everything will be okay. Her immense strength provides a great contrast to her lighthearted, almost silly nature.

Then we have our brilliant male lead, Zhuang QingYuan. He’s the brains of the group, and his world was filled with darkness until he crossed paths with Song Ke on that fateful day. Everything comes full circle with them—love their chemistry!

Next is Xu Xing, the team’s cute yet aloof younger brother. He only shows his softer side to the protagonist, and it’s heartbreaking to see a kid like him navigating the harsh reality of an apocalypse.

Then there’s the iconic duo, Lin YouYou and Su Cha. I can't stop laughing at Su Cha's hilarious line during the Sin City prison arc. It was priceless—how could V587 do that to our stone-faced Su Cha? Lin YouYou, meanwhile, provides the best support with her buffs.

As for our healer Fang ZhiXu, his story is the most tragic. I could feel his anger and frustration even from off-screen, but I’m so glad he found peace and began moving forward with his life.

Last but certainly not least, there’s Lu XiaoYu, our six-armed mechanical guy and a brilliant hacker. His daily banter with the male lead is a highlight!

[collapse]

Every member of V587 is irreplaceable, and I absolutely love each of their flaws and quirks. The plot twists, the apocalypse adventure—it’s all incredible!

This is easily my #1 favorite.

Thank you so much for translating this gem! <<less

Interesting novel, has a unique plot, kick ass female lead, and shameless green tea male lead. The romance is slow but it isn't aggravating. The pacing is just right for the plot.

The story might seem simple at first but it becomes more complex as it progresses. MC, Song Ke, and her team's journey reveals the wider world of the novel and darker side of humans. They inadvertently and sometimes intentionally bring about big changes to better the world.

Spoiler

MC is an orphan who gains abilities at the start of the apocalypse. She lives in a world that is separated into districts and hers is the worst. The plot is about her attempt to survive and gain entry into a better district.

Along the way she unintentionally gathers a team, with ML, Zhuang Qingyan, being the first. As the intro states, the team has seven members. With some members having a mysterious past or unresolved goals.

BIG SPOILER...

...

MC is super powerful because she was actually created in a lab. Her grandfather had worked in the lab and stole her away because he didn't want her to suffer. The lab had an explosion so no one knew that MC was still alive.

ML's father was the owner of the lab. He was a genius geneticist and many people/organizations wanted his research. Later when he died, he left a locked container that was thought to contain his research notes. ML went into hiding because he was hunted as the key to the locked container.
